Consider the time of year for this tour. This would be beautiful in the Spring or even a few weeks earlier. A few stops were closed or not ideal for viewing. We focused on the wine part of the description and while we did have two tastings, we felt rushed. Roman is lovely and gave us good information about the area.

Itinerary
Explore the romantic ruins of Sirotčí hrádek, a medieval castle dating back to the 13th century, perched atop a steep hill with views over the surrounding vineyards and countryside. Once a royal hunting lodge and later a fortress, the castle is steeped in legends and offers a glimpse into the region’s turbulent history. Take time to wander among the remains of fortress walls, towers, and courtyards while enjoying breathtaking vistas. Nearby, Stolová hora (Table Mountain) rises with its distinctive flat top, offering panoramic views and a striking silhouette that dominates the Pálava landscape. This area introduces the Pálava Hills, a protected region renowned for its limestone cliffs, vineyards, and diverse ecosystems, and recognized as a UNESCO biosphere reserve celebrated for its natural beauty and rich history.
One of the highlights of our tour will be a visit to Lednice, a picturesque town at the heart of the UNESCO-listed Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape. Together, we will take a leisurely walk around the stunning Lednice Castle, built predominantly in the elegant Neo-Gothic style, featuring distinctive Tudor Revival details. The castle’s origins date back to the 13th century, originally constructed as a Renaissance hunting lodge before its 19th-century Neo-Gothic transformation. We will explore the beautifully landscaped gardens and greenhouses, enjoying views of exotic plants and tranquil ponds. From a distance, you will see the iconic Lednice Minaret, a striking Oriental-style tower rising above the park, as well as several Moorish-style water pavilions and reservoirs that add unique charm to the landscape. There will be opportunities to use restrooms and visit nearby cafes or refreshment spots. This peaceful stroll offers a perfect blend of history, nature, and architectural beauty.
Discover the charming historic town of Mikulov, renowned for its Baroque and distinctive Renaissance architecture, rich Jewish heritage, and the magnificent Mikulov Castle. The town is notable for its location near the former Iron Curtain border. Stroll through the picturesque main square, past the chateau, and along quaint streets steeped in history. See the monumental Dietrichstein Tomb and the ruins of Kozí hrádek, a small medieval fortress that once served as a strategic lookout. Enjoy sweeping views of the sacred Holy Hill, known for its historic Way of the Cross. If open, climb the lookout tower of St. Wenceslas Church for a stunning panorama of the town and surrounding vineyards. Visit the local tourist information center with restrooms, refreshments, and the option to purchase excellent wines from local grape varieties. Free time is also available for photos, coffee, or simply soaking in the atmosphere.
A visit to a popular winery is a must on our tour, and Vinařství U Kapličky perfectly fits this role. The family-run winery in Zaječí, renowned for its premium wines made from estate-grown grapes. The estate offers a picturesque setting with vineyards, a chapel, and a wine cellar, providing a perfect spot to enjoy local wines and the serene countryside. Nearby, on the hilltop Kalvárie (262 m), stands the Dalibor Lookout Tower. Completed in 2012, this 11-meter-high stone tower offers panoramic views of the Pálava Hills, Nové Mlýny reservoirs, Lednice-Valtice Area, and beyond to Austria and Slovakia. The tower is named after Dalibor Babáček, the winery's founder. Adjacent to the tower is the Chapel of St. Urban, built in 2007, housing a wooden statue of the patron saint of winemakers. The site is accessible year-round and offers benches for relaxation. Visitors can enjoy wine tastings, local refreshments, and restrooms at the winery.
Nestled in the heart of the Nadzahrady vineyards near Velké Pavlovice, the Slunečná Lookout Tower rises 18.6 meters high, crowned with an observation deck 15 meters above ground. Built in 2009 as part of a Czech-Slovak cross-border initiative, this unique tower is designed to mimic the shape of a grapevine bush, symbolizing the region’s deep-rooted winemaking heritage. Climb 75 steps to the top for breathtaking panoramic views of the Pálava Hills, the Lednice-Valtice Cultural Landscape, nearby wine villages, and on clear days, even Vienna and the distant Alps. Visitors can enjoy paved paths leading to the tower, perfect for cycling, and relax in nearby wine cellar-inspired buildings offering refreshments, souvenirs, and a tourist stamping point.
Our long journey through the enchanting South Moravian region will continue in Vrbice, where the traditional wine cellars were built in the 16th century. These historic underground cellars, carved into the local loess soil, offer a unique glimpse into centuries-old winemaking traditions. You will have the chance to explore atmospheric corridors lined with oak barrels and taste authentic Moravian wines directly from the source. The village is also home to the Church of St. Giles (sv. Jiljí), built between 1913 and 1920 in a distinctive Neo-Romanesque style. The church’s impressive 36-meter-high tower dominates the village skyline, adding cultural and architectural depth to the visit. The warm hospitality of local winemakers creates an inviting atmosphere to savor the flavors and stories of the region. Refreshments may be available on site.

My wife and I were looking for a tour of Moravia's wine country and the city of Mikulov. Our guide Roman , offered flexibility in the hotel pickup location and arrived promptly to start our day. He assessed our interests and adapted our journey covering a full day. We enjoyed his knowledge, presentations, and quality of English. Several impromptu discussions about history, culture, and life in Moravia, and Czechia in general, were informative and enjoyable. We visited beautiful landscapes, a variety of wine operations, and marveled at the Ledvice historic site. He provided what we were interested in during our first visit to the Czech Republic.
This was my favorite tour that we took during our week split between Prague and Brno. The Lednice castle and grounds were beautiful and the wine cellar was most unique. There were several additional stops, a church, wine tasting, etc were also interesting. One of the best aspects of the tour was the ability to customize to exactly what we wanted to see and the pace.
I absolutely loved my tour with Carcatta! I was a little uneasy about booking a wine tour on my own, but from the beginning, everything was professional, well organized, and easy. Communication was excellent, with clear details about pickup, drop-off, and what to expect. Rosta was wonderful. He was a great driver, incredibly knowledgeable, and genuinely pleasant to spend the day with. I felt completely comfortable traveling with him, and the day was the perfect combination of sightseeing, exploring beautiful places, and discovering some wonderful wine-tasting gems. What started as something I was a little nervous to do solo ended up being one of the highlights of my trip. I had such a fantastic day and cannot say enough wonderful things about Rosta and Carcatta. I would absolutely recommend them, especially to anyone considering a private or solo tour!
My wife and I had an amazing time on the Wine Culture and UNESCO Gems tour. Very easy to book directly with the operatior and Rosta was great communicating. The tour is totally customizable but we followed the typical route. We were picked at our Brno hotel promptly at 9. The car was comfortable and Rosta was a safe driver. We toured beautiful palaces, had two wine tastings - one in a traditional wine cellar - and learned a lot about South Moravian history and we drove through the countryside. This was a highlight of our central European vacation.
Roman was really knowledgeable and friendly :) he showed us around Mikulov and we really had a great time there! 😊😊
This was one of the best travel experiences that my wife and I have had! Roman was extraordinarily helpful; he was very flexible with arranging the time of our departure. He provided a wonderful curated tour of the history, culture, and sites of Moravia. In eight hours, we heard about history, visited village squares, had two chateau visits, and a wine tasting. Roman is congenial and gregarious. You can’t go wrong with this tour!
When I returned to China and transferred these photos from my camera, I found myself reminiscing about the wonderful time I spent with Rost’a in South Moravia. Rost’a is an incredibly friendly and easy-going guide. The itinerary he arranged was not only filled with beautiful landscapes but also highlighted the unique local culture and heritage of the region. Although it was an extremely hot day, Rost’a never showed any impatience. Instead, he remained enthusiastic throughout the journey, sharing everything he knew about the history, culture, and interesting stories of the places we visited. This trip was much more than just sightseeing — it was a meaningful experience that allowed me to truly connect with the beauty and spirit of South Moravia. I will always treasure these memories and continue to look back on this unforgettable journey.
Rosťa provided a wonderful tour of the South Moravian wine country with narration about the area and it's history. The van was comfortable, with AC being very nice to have on a hot, summer day. We got to taste wine from a couple of different wineries and enjoy a nice, traditional Czech lunch in a quaint restaurant. The highlight of the trip for us was getting to go into a private wine cellar. Rosťa was very knowledgeable about the area's history and had prepared audio files to share with us while traveling. All-in-all an absolutely fantastic trip that I highly recommend to anyone visiting the area.
Highly recommend a tour with Rosta! He tailored a great wine/walking/culture day for us and it was perfect. Highly informative and a definite highlight of our time in the Czech Republic. He gave us great recommendations as well. I recommend this tour and will be contacting Rosta again when close to Brno!
Excellent excursion with an easygoing and knowledgeable guide; he accomodated our wishes and anticipated our needs, and made the visit to Moravia countryside a great day to remember.
Very accomodating, easygoing and informative. Highly recommended. We could appreciate the visits without being stressed and have a real discussion with the guide.
Rosta knows everything about the region, we toured Valtice and Mikulov, and enjoyed a tasting at Sonberk winery, pickup and dropoff was efficient at our hotel in Brno. Great day!
It was a remarkable journey with Roman. He knows everything about the area. Put your hiking boots on. The scenery is beautiful.
Roman has put together a wonderful day exploring the countryside with a perfect combination of driving and trekking. His unrushed yet timely approach to the tour enabled me to take my time in areas I wanted to explore more and to also learn new things about the area. I look forward to returning for wine tastings and staying in the lovely chateaus we visited.
We had a fantastic trip with Roman! I travelled with my husband and 7 year old son. Instead of Lednice we went to a very old castle that had an interesting history and beautiful views. Unfortunately, there was a frost about a week before we went, so the gardens at Lednice were done for the season, so the cattle was a great alternative for our family. It was a bit of a hike up the hill, which we enjoyed. We also explored Mikulov, which is a cute little town, and the castle there is gorgeous. There are some cute shops and cafes, and the views there are also beautiful. Getting out of the city and exploring the countryside was a great experience. We would absolutely go back to this region and we would do another tour with Roman. He was very knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating, helped us to tailor the trip to our interests and family needs. Highly recommend!
Roman is truly one of the best tour guides we’ve ever had! His passion and pride for his country shine through in everything he shares. He took us through wine country and stunning UNESCO sites, giving us plenty of his time and knowledge. We had such a memorable and wonderful experience. Thank you, Roman!
Roman is fantastic; he presented the highlights of South Moravia with a special focus on wine from 8:30 AM to 3:15 PM. He provided us with regional wine at two locations upon request, and this was at a reasonable price. He answered all questions, was interested, polite, and attentive. We can only recommend the tour.
