Disappointing stay for a "four-star" resort We rented an apartment at Resort Thalasso Concarneau, advertised as a four-star hotel. The location is genuinely excellent and the pool is great — but the apartment itself was a real letdown. To start, the room we'd booked months in advance was suddenly unavailable on arrival. Not a great first impression. The staff were friendly and did offer us a free breakfast, which was a nice gesture. Once in the (replacement) apartment, the issues piled up: Toilet doesn't flush properly Shower hose too short Room key cards kept stopping working, requiring repeated trips back to the front desk Moldy sink drain in the kitchen No lids on any of the pots, and one pot was fully scratched and worn out Fridge bottle shelf hanging half loose, as was the fridge door itself Wallpaper peeling in the room Bedroom door sticks Hallway carpet covered in stains No air conditioning On top of that, the laundry machine instructions were unclear, and both I and another guest trying to do laundry lost money on a wasted cycle because of it. Reception said they're not liable since the machines are run by an external company, but no phone number is provided for that company either, only email. For a hotel marketing itself as four-star, this is a lot of maintenance and cleanliness issues piling up. Great location, friendly staff, nice pool — but the apartment itself felt shabby and poorly maintained. Can't really call this a four-star experience.

The room was nice and the reception staff were nice. Didn’t really care for the restaurant or the way we were treated as non-French speakers. The spa was just ok. I thought the water was too chilly, no options for warmer, no Sauna and just not relaxing.
Resort states 4*. Closer to 3* in the apartment buildings we'd booked. Entrance door broken and permanently open , carpets worn and bleach stained, room door didn't close fully without force. Apartment was basic, clean and functional. Noise transmits through rooms on all sides though, so not quiet. Outside pool was heated and used by some residents. Main hotel has a spa and restaurant with bar but only really serves hotel guests.
We stayed 4 summers in a row because we like the location and restaurant service (including food). The hotel is 4 stars but the residence (annex to the hotel) not more than 3 stars. The place is clean, albeit the in the annex the room service is appalling. Opening hours of the SPA have improved but are still erratic. Strange male swimming suits rules (essentially you have to wear a plastic underwear very tight to your body and as a result feel like a geek) and no deckchairs at the outside pool, which reduces the score quite heavily.
Our Residence apartment was clean and tidy on arrival. Concrete floors and walls mean very little noise from neighbours. The kitchen was equipped with dishwasher, basic cutlery and crockery, but we went to the supermarket to buy a new corkscrew and cheap kettle. We had lovely weather, so needed to sleep with the window open. Even so, it was very warm inside. There was a little noise from nearby streets, but not too much (hotel residents might get more noise from a nearby bar). All (I think) apartments have a balcony with table and chairs. North facing apartments in the block we were in get less sun (not until late afternoon), but have the better view.. As other reviewers have said, the Thalasso complex is across the road from the beach, but there is a big gap in the beach-side buildings adjacent to Thalasso so you do still get a decent view from the North and West facing apartments. We ate in the hotel restaurant twice, choosing their "Menu Instant" which we enjoyed and thought reasonably priced as was the wine. The staff were very pleasant and helpful. The pool is nice. Well kept and clean with safety fencing to get into the pool area. The majority of the rest of the outdoor area is fairly course grass, I didn't see anyone making use of it. There is plenty of parking. There are good paths nearby including a walk .up a wooded valley and a walking/cycle track into town. If returning to Concarneau, I would definitely consider the Thalasso Residence again. A word of warning, check your bill carefully on departure to make sure the right daily rate has been applied.
