It was a great immersive experience. Got to see lots of butterflies, turtles and other insects. Fun family time.

This is my first time visiting the butterfly gardens, and I would definitely return again! We booked the tickets at the front desk. The booking was smooth and easy, however the prices are a little expensive for what the place has to offer. Before you enter the rain forest where the butterfly's are, you can see an Insectarium exhibit featuring: Leaf-cutter ants, stick bugs, glowing scorpions, giant katydids, nymphs, Malaysian millipedes, and tarantulas. The rain forest was my favorite part of the place because they didn't just have butterfly's, they also had tropical birds, flamingos, dart frogs, and turtles. Overall my experience was great, and I would recommend going here.
We came with our young cousin (we're seniors) who lives in Victoria, and her toddler. It was a good thing to do with family after having a nice lunch at the pub at Brentwood Bay Resort. The butterflies are lovely, but it's nearly impossible to photograph them because, well, they don't hold still! And the most beautiful ones, the big blue ones, when still on a twig, close their wings so you cannot see the blue. Oh well. I kind of expected there to be more butterflies, like maybe flocks of them, and there were not, but perhaps this was the time of year. There are also glass cabinets with unusual insects, many of which look like leaves or twigs, that we very much enjoyed. The gift shop had nothing I would want but if you were looking for children's souvenirs or toys they have a pretty fair selection.
Lovely set up and lots to see.. educational as well as birds and turtles. Easy drive from victoria also!
Neat little area inside to see lots of butterflies and other wildlife. Very humid inside so be prepared with minimal layers and maybe some water. You can take breaks outside and then re-enter. There are many butterflies thou be careful of where you walk as there are butterflies and frogs on the paths. We spent over 2 hours here as we were trying to get good photos of different butterflies and get them to land on us. But you could totally spend less time here if you just did a quick walk around. It wasnt too busy, and you could generally find a place to stand by yourself. They have plenty of seats too.
Travis was so amazing with the kids and helping them find all the animals! The whole place is a great time for kids
We spent over an hour at the Butterfly Garden. Just the exhibits with leaf cutter ants and other crawly insects outside of the tropical sanctuary were incredible. There were fewer butterflies on our visit due to hatching and time of year, but the tropical garden was still fascinating. We saw moths hatching, frogs, turtles, the flamingo and iguana, plus a wild variety of plants. The kids really loved the adventure.
It was wonderful! I enjoyed the free moving butterflies especially and the fact that there were rescue animals. Each display had an explanation. The staff was very good wonderful atmosphere. It was not expensive and easy to find
Lovely place, a lot smaller than expected so didn't take long to walk through it. Been to a few of these before and this was just as nice.
This was such a fun and gorgeous activity. There is so much beauty to observe and take in. Absolutely loved it!
Fascinating exhibits, beautiful butterfly garden. Very educational for all ages. One needs to spend at least two hours!!
It’s fairly small, but for kids it’s probably quite good. There were repeat families there. If you’re an adult you could probably skip it.
Absolutely stunning. So many butterflies and they make you feel calm just by standing still and allowing them to flutter around you. Really glad we stopped by
Though the Butterfly Garden is a ways out of Victoria city, it’s well worth a visit. The jungle area is enchanting with butterflies flitting around and many animals and plants to see. Magical.
This is a truly beautiful experience. You start by seeing some really interesting bugs including a huge glass enclosed ant farm. You then proceed to a rainforest (it's hot and humid so dress accordingly!). There are HUNDREDS of butterflies flying around, many coming quite close. They have strategically placed food in lots of viewing areas so you can really see them up close. There are other animals like turtles, koi fish and even a flamingo! This is our 2nd visit here and it is a peaceful beautiful place. I think the admission for adults is slightly pricey considering you will likely only spend about an hour here, so I knocked off one star but otherwise great place to visit.
The butterflies are most active on sunny days. Wear bright coloured clothing. Wear something cool, very hot and humid inside
The feel of the gardens was tranquil and I loved the butterflies all around us. I was impressed with the diverse quantity of different animals. Although, a little concerned with the small confines of such animals.
It was so lush and tropical inside. I learned about Butterflies big and small. Also saw turtles, Koi fish, birds, and Mango the Flamingo 🦩 Lots of places to just sit and watch for us older folks.
The Butterfly Gardens are a great place to visit, with plenty to keep visitors interested, and they make a very convenient stop en route to Butchart Gardens. If you spend about an hour here, you can then catch a bus just outside to continue on to Butchart Gardens. Even if you aren’t particularly interested in butterflies, there is still plenty to see and enjoy. Overall, it’s definitely worth a visit and suitable for visitors of all ages.
My husband and I were thinking that this attraction would be more focussed for children but were very pleasantly surprised at how much we enjoyed our visit. The insect display when you first enter is very interesting and informative. We were amazed at the length of the stick bugs! The gardens are lush and contain many different types of butterflies as well as a very friendly iguana, a 50 year old flamingo - Mango, 4 Macaws, 2 African Grays, other assorted birds and turtles. It was great to hear that all of them have come from rescue situations and was so positive to see that the birds were able to fly free within the building. Very warm and tropical feeling on a cold wet day.
We are avid photographers and were expecting amazing butterflies, and was not disappointed in that regard. Our expectations were vastly exceeded with the insect display before going into the gardens, as well as the birds and lizards on display in the gardens. It was literally like a mini zoo there, and I put my zoom lens to great use. Highly recommended experience if this is along the lines of things you enjoy - we ended up spending a good few hours here and it was worth the price of admission.
Great time seeing butterflies, turtles, birds & insects! Wear light weight clothes…..it’s hot & humid inside….of course as the butterflies & others need it.
Lovely experience. I love how they present the different stages of the butterfly. Love the jungle/rainforest feel with birds, frogs, turtles! great for a solo day activity.
Great experience to see all the animals in the same atea… exotic birds from big to Little turtles Koi fish. The surroundings were very natural and I love it. We had a great time. Got some great pictures.
Several animal species in addition to the butterflies and the butterflies were well displayed, roaming free and part of an educational window as well. Lots of good photo opportunities.
This place was recommended by some locals whom we met in Vancouver Canada, and it does not disappoint. We caught the number 75 bus from the hotel and it’s great.
The building is nice and their setup seems good, but the place was PACKED with people of all ages making it hard to see anything or enjoy the visit because you had to try hard not to bump into people. Additionally, there were turtles walking around the path with people and no staff were there to make sure the turtles were safe (not stepped on accidentally or being harassed). Would have enjoyed it much more if there were about half the people there. Maybe they could find a better way to limit the number of people in the garden at one time.
I was surprised to see more than just butterflies. A flamingo, turtles, and other surprises. It is a small venue, but worth it. The kids wanted to go around again and they never want to do that. Affordable price too.
Victoria Butterfly Gardens has more than just the butterfly’s. The insects 🐜 at the start require a look …very interesting. There is an orange flamingo 🦩and many fish 🐠 turtles 🐢 and mice 🐁 The butterfly’s are stunning 🦋
It was great. It’s not a big facility but really fun. So many butterflies, birds, koi and plants. I’d go again!
Went this last weekend with my partner and some friends. We were in town for just a day from Washington state. The butterfly garden was beautiful, and we loved looking at all the insects as well. Beautifully maintained! Heads up, they keep the garden itself warm for the butterflies so don't go inside with a jacket on! You'll be sweating!
Such a chill and beautiful spot! The Victoria Butterfly Gardens totally surprised me — it’s warm, tropical, and full of butterflies flying all around you. There are also cool little animals like turtles, frogs, birds, and even a flamingo just vibing. We made friends with one of the birds, Super relaxing to walk through, and there’s tons to see. Great for a date, family day, or just escaping the weather for a bit. It’s like a mini rainforest in there. Loved it!
Beautiful and amazing experience. Recommended for everyone!!! The Butterfly Gardens are a must see stop, only a few minutes away from Butchart Gardens
This place was included on our Butchart Gardens Tour. I wasn't sure what to expect but it was really neat. There is a large tropical habitat where butterflies are flying freely. There are also some tropical birds: mc caws, parrot, flamingo. Beautiful tropical plants. It was a pleasant way to spend an hour and also learn things about butterflies and moths. There is also an exhibit of tropical insects: types of "stick insects" and leaf cutter ants that were interesting to look at. Nice gift shop.
Fabulous tropical birds, exotic insects, show-stopping Koi, large turtles and iguana, and an amazing variety of butterflies both in chrysalis and flying - across their full lifespan. Beautifully laid out, and easy to walk through, with knowledgeable staff.
A well done little place that is a nice way to spend an afternoon. It’s cool that there are other creatures, but just butterflies.
It was very informative and fun. It was a nice experience and the staff was kind. They had a place to hang your jackets because it was warm and humid inside.
Great value for the cost, especially since my family was able to save twenty percent on admission since we are Malahat Skywalk members. The gardens seem to be well kept, workers everywhere tending to the plants and the animals, willing to have a chat. If possible, leave your jackets in the car, the gardens are hot! I would rather keep them in the car than hang them at the front, just a suggestion. You get to see all the life cycles of the butterfly, from eggs to caterpillars to cocoon to butterflies, it’s quite amazing to witness. I feel that, especially with young kids, I would try and do the Butterfly Gardens on a separate day than the Butchart Gardens. I think it would like a long day to do both and full enjoyment would not happen. The Butterfly Gardens are a must see when in Victoria!
This was a fun experience. Was with the price. My only suggestion would be to sell the cups of nectar like other ones done e can have them land in us for a move closer and up personal experience. Maybe only offer to adults if worried about children.
It was less than $20 for a ticket so not sure what to expect but when we entered it was magical. Butterflies landed on me so that was great but there were macaws, turtles, flamingoes and koi. You are able to stay in as long as you want. Would recommend for families.
We enjoyed the butterfly garden on our way into Butchart gardens. The fish and turtles were a pleasant surprise.
Beautiful and clean, good air and peaceful animals. Lovely koi fish and stream. All animals are healthy and thriving.
A truly magical place we really enjoyed, I would say almost on par with the amazing well known butterfly gardens located around the world: - very helping older and super gorgeous receptionist (and my hello once again to her and her amazing lashes) detailing us where to go and see - hard at work ants located near the reception area together with a few reptiles - gorgeous butterflies in the main butterfly house, many large ones simply landing on you if you smell naturally sweet and have lively colours on you - well thought arrangement with waterfalls and very happy tiny turtles, as well as pink flamingo, besides gorgeous plants and koi carp in the water - several types of parrots, some friendlier than others, especially the green one (reminding me of the Ring neck parakeets I used to feed in Hyde Park in London, UK) who started paying attention and mimicking me in a matter of seconds: how clever is he!!! - more tiny birds flying all directions and singing their happiness to their heart's content - the entry fee is around 20 dollars, however groups of over 10 get discounts - I would suspect at the weekend or summer time to be very busy
A great place to visit for anyone who enjoys tropical plants and animals. Butterflies everywhere you look, parrots and lizards roaming around the place, and a bunch of smaller enclosures with various, turtles and even a caiman! Fairly inexpensive, and a nice gift shop with a variety of unique souvenirs.
This was my first time in a garden like this where the butterflies are flying around you in an unrestricted environment. The conservatory does feel warm and humid reflecting the tropical climate. There are macaws, a flamingo, turtles, and insect displays so it’s not only butterflies. Highly recommend especially as a side stop to or from Butchart Gardens!
Our family loved it. We did not stay long as it was quite warm. I don't know if it would worth the full price, we had the Malahat Skywalk Pass which gave us 20% off. Definitely a neat experience.
Fun space for little ones of all ages! Our kids (1.5 and 5.5) loved exploring it as much as did and roamed for well over an hour in the space. Do come in t-shirts because the space is very hot and humid.
It was garbage, you didn’t give times for getting in and we were on a cruise ship that was going in at later times. When our group tried to communicate and cancel within your timeframe we were met with chaos and misinformation and wound up completely missing the event. But you kept the money. Crap App.
We enjoyed every minute that we spent in Butterfly Gardens. Such a nice place with positive vibes and beautiful nature creations.
Amazing and peaceful. I felt relaxed and made me feel as though I was in the rainforest. 100% recommend.
