Guided Fishing Adventure In Whistler

We had an incredible morning with Matt, he’s super personable and engaging, and knows the sport better than most. We fished two spots during our time on the river as he wanted to show us what Whistler had to offer for fly fishing. 1000% recommend this experience if you’re in Whistler, it was a morning we’ll remember for the rest of our lives.

This was the most amazing experience! Fly fishing with two ADHD boys makes any parent a little nervous, but Matt was incredible. He was such a good teacher and knew exactly how to keep the boys engaged. He could sense when their attention was starting to wander and draw them right back in with his own passion and enthusiasm. The only downside is that post trip, the boys are now asking for their own fly fishing gear. 😂 If Matt ever pursues other ventures, he should definitely consider teaching. He has a real gift with kids, and we couldn’t have asked for a better experience.

Our tour guide went above and beyond to ensure we had a great time. He was very informative and a wonderful teacher for my boys.

Fish were small, they were bitting, caught a few. It was a fun and enjoyable time. Great for beginners. If you want real flyfishing action you need to ask before you sign up.

What an amazing experience!!! We went out early in the morning and our guide had everything prepared for us. My dad doesn’t have the best vision and our guide adapted to him and made it a wonderful experience. Super beginner friendly but our guide was very knowledgeable and knew what he was doing and the best places to go. BOOK IT!!

My husband, 17 year-old son and I had a wonderful evening fly fishing experience with our guide. Our previous experience with fly fishing was limited, and we learned enough during our trip that we all caught beautiful rainbows. Our guide drove us to a beautiful stretch of river, and we hiked a short way in to a magical spot. It was like hanging out with your favorite country cousin, having a great time in nature. Five stars plus!

The fishing trip was really good. Our guide Cole was very knowledgeable about fishing and took us to some beautiful locations. We really enjoyed this activity.

Excellent time on the lake. The scenery at the site was amazing. The guides were knowledgeable and taught 6 rookies how to fly fish!

Cole was great! My 14 year old son and I went and it was wonderful. We both caught fish and learned techniques. Super convenient. We were picked up at our hotel, they had all the gear, all we had to do was show up. I’ve never fished before. There was some amount of trekking to get to the fishing area fyi. Not a big deal but be aware it wasn’t just showing up at a lake and fishing. Highly recommend. Beautiful scenery too.

My buddy and I went out with Cole. We were on the river in <15 min and it was beautiful. We had an active fish and each caught quite a few rainbows. They were small but fun and it was not a stocked river. Cole had great tips and the day was beautiful. The waders were great and sized well and the tackle was great. Cole kept us roaring through different flies for more opportunities. Highly recommend.

Guide was very helpful and the lake and scenery was great. Not many fish were caught that day but we still had a good experience.

I booked the 3 hour fishing trip for my husband and son. They has a fantastic afternoon catching trout in a scenic stream very close to downtown Whistler. Their guide was very knowledgeable and helpful. Highly recommend. We will book again next time we visit BC. Thanks again!!

From the time of our booking up through our adventure, Matthew from Year Round Fishing was very communicative while providing all of the details and forms required for our experience. Although my son and I had no experience with fly fishing our guide Dawson was great and provided easy to follow pointers on what to do. The location and setting was perfect, my son ended up catching several trout although a couple did get away as he was close to hauling them in. I had a few bites but no luck with hooking any. Despite myself not catching anything, the experience and location was awesome and our guide Dawson made the experience a whole lot better.

Our experience started with a quick drive to the parking lot, where our guide Dawson quickly got us outfitted into the essential gear to wade into the water for fly fishing. Then we had an incredible short hike through the forest to the lake where he took us to the perfect, and one of the most unreal and scenic spots I have ever fished. The fish were biting and it was a lot of fun for the whole family! Dawson was great at making sure my wife and daughter knew the ins and outs of working a fly rod as this was their first time, and he even had some great pointers for me as it had been a while since I had done any fly fishing. 10/10 experience!!!

This was such an awesome little adventure! I booked it for my 16yo son who loves fishing but hasn't done fly fishing. I've never fished a day in my life. Cole, our guide, was AMAZING!! He was so helpful in teaching, sharing tips, and my son and I had a great time. I caught and held my first fish ever! (Catch and release off course). The excursion was long enough in time that you definitely get value for the price. My only recommendation is to wear extra layers of socks and warm pants (if you care about your toes). The water gets very chilly after a while.

So cool trying fly fishing for the first time. Matt was awesome at teaching techniques and very patient when lines got tangled etc. All of us caught at least one fish. Great intro to a new way to fish!!

This was my son’s first time on a fly rod and it was a perfect spot to just get out quick and have a fun time! Dawson was an awesome guide. Close to town so no time was wasted!

Loved this unique experience! The owner of the business Matt is fantastic and picked us up from the hotel and dropped us back after. Cole took well care of us for the duration of the fishing trip and it was such a fun experience! We really loved the lake they took us to because we were fly fishing in glacial waters while viewing the snow capped mountains surrounding us. Quite a magical experience. We caught about 7 fish and fish were biting when we went in early May.

Matt picked me, my 13 yo son and 16 yo son up right at the Hilton and drove us to a local river to fish.. He had a very efficient system to get us suited up in our waders and we fished several different spots in the river. We are are fairly beginners when it comes to fishing but Matt was very patient and kind teaching us some skills and we caught a few fish! We had a great time despite it being near zero degrees and would strongly recommend this fishing trip!

Matt is incredibly passionate and knowledgeable about fishing! He was patient with us as novice fly fishermen and helped us to land some beautiful bull trout and rainbow trout. We would highly recommend booking a guided tour with him! We will fondly remember our “walk and wade” experience.

Matt, our tour guide, made this experience wonderful. His passion for fishing, the outdoors and Whistler in general is contagious. He was very professional and had his gear set up in such a way that we spent very little of our 3 hours preparing and most of it fishing. Matt is very knowledgeable and he put us on the fish quickly. All of us (3) we're lucky enough to land a rainbow trout and had many bites throughout our time. I was highly recommend this experience for those who are into fishing or simply want to try it out.

EXCELLENT experience from start to finish. Matthew was an amazing guide, and it is very clear he knows the Whistler area. Matthew took us to a great little hidden fishing spot we would have never found on our own. The river was a scene out of a movie, we couldn't get over how beautiful everything was. He has a great sense of humor, is an expert guide on how/where to fish, and has a great attitude that made the morning one we won't forget. Would reccomend him to everyone.

Matt was amazing! Beautiful scenery, learned how to fly fish and caught rainbow!!! It was an awesome experience and we will come back next year for Salmon fishing with Matt! A must, must do and worth EVERY dollar!!

My brother and I were visiting Whistler for the week and as the snow was melting we found Matt, the owner and guide for this fly fishing adventure. We booked a short 3 hour trip. I had zero experience in fly fishing. He was a wealth of knowledge and extremely thorough and patient in teaching. He walked me through every single step from start to finish. With his guidance and expertise we were led to the best spots for fishing and we both landed trout! I caught a bull trout and my brother a rainbow trout! It was exhilarating for us as brother and sister to experience together and Matt's excitement for our success was contagious!! He genuinely loves his job. He has a deep respect for nature and proper handling of the fish as well as his guests. He made certain to maintain a fun, professional environment, while abiding by the rules of fishing and safety. This particular excursion was my favorite of the entire trip and I would do it 100 more times if I could! Highly recommend Matt and Whistler-Year-Round Fishing!
