We enjoyed our visit. The admission fee is on point for what it is. The place is small, but chock full of beautiful plants. There's a bunch of koi swimming around the pond, fat and happy. I love birds and they have a handful of parrots. All but one were snoozing when we first arrived. Kramer, a moluccan cockatoo, was wide awake and putting on a show, talking up a storm and dancing around his enclosure. We easily spent 20 minutes just watching and enjoying him. Afterwards we walked down the hill to Main Street and had lunch. It was a nice, mellow way to spend our last afternoon in Vancouver. Would visit often if I was local.

A bit of a trip outside the city centre by taxi to Queen Elizabeth Park and Bloedel Conservatory. We paid our $9.50 entrance fee per adult and had a little walk about. Its a pretty small dome with a set route around it, but it certainly has its charm and that comes from the characterful birds around the area, some just squawking, but every so often you'll hear a cheeky voice say something, this kept me amused for ages. We did two loops of the dome and probably spent around an hour there, the plants and birds are lovely to look at but for some on a shorter break in the city it might be a little far to travel for such a relatively short amount of time.
Great place is you love birds and flowers. Easy to get through but well worth it. Any age and easy to get around
It is well managed and well cared for habitat for these beautiful creatures. We were in awe to read how old some of these birds were. The garden itself is beautifully thought for and planted, with quiet a variety of exotic plants.
Lovely environment with many beautiful and well cared for exotic plants together with a variety of exotic birds. Walking around the conservatory was pleasant with quite a bit to see. It is well laid out and if you are interested in plants and flowers is worth a visit as the price is very cheap. After visiting you can stroll around the surrounding gardens in the park that are beautiful and peaceful.
It was amazing. Some of plants I’ve seen in my life, very clean & nice environment. Birds were so beautiful
The Bloedel Conservatory is located in one of Vancouver’s most beautiful settings, at the top of Queen Elizabeth Park. The gardens surrounding the conservatory are absolutely stunning, beautifully maintained, and filled with an incredible variety of flowers, plants, and colors. The conservatory itself is peaceful, lush, and visually impressive - a wonderful place to connect with nature. Unfortunately, my experience was overshadowed by the conditions in which some of the birds, particularly the cockatoos and macaws, are kept. As a farmer and an animal trainer & lover, I found it genuinely upsetting and shocking. These birds are among the most intelligent and social animals in the world, yet they appeared to have very little enrichment or stimulation. I noticed a lack of toys, mirrors, activities, and natural elements that would encourage them to engage in their normal behaviors. Some of the perches are made of metal, which is obviously not ideal for their feet over extended periods. Another aspect that I found particularly difficult to witness was that several of the larger birds appeared unable to fly. Whether this is due to wing clipping or other reasons, seeing magnificent birds such as macaws and cockatoos unable to take flight is heartbreaking. Flight is such a fundamental part of what these animals are, and watching them stuck and walk onto their one branch is just awful. For visitors, these birds may be a beautiful attraction, but they are also highly intelligent, sentient creatures whose physical and psychological needs deserve the highest level of care and consideration. And what makes it all even more disappointing is that there seems to be so much opportunity to do better. The conservatory is large, spacious, and high enough to create a far more enriching environment for these birds. With thoughtful improvements, additional climbing structures, natural perches, toys, and interactive enrichment, this space could be transformed into something truly exceptional for their welfare. I do though understand the desire to give visitors the opportunity to see exotic birds, but their well-being should always come first. If adequate physical and mental stimulation cannot be provided, I would honestly rather see the conservatory focus solely on its spectacular plant collection - or maybe have butterflies in there instead - than seeing what I saw. I still recommend visiting for the beauty of the gardens and the conservatory itself, which are genuinely outstanding. However, I sincerely hope management takes a fresh look at the needs of the birds in their care. A place as beautiful and respected as the Bloedel Conservatory has the potential to become a leader not only in horticulture, but also in animal welfare.
Was an amazing time! Just beautiful birds! And plants! I took my family there and would go again. Lovely time
Very nice to see but short visit.
Admission was affordable, plenty of parking ( paid) located inside Queen Elizabeth Park. The park consists of colourful birds and flowers. The place is a small conservatory so manage your expectations accordingly. We did 5 rounds and the kids enjoyed the experience. We got a paper for a scavenger hunt at the entrance and kept exploring the place. Humid inside so dress in layers.
The tickets from Viator didn’t work. We had to purchase new tickets when we got to Bloedel reserve. They claim that they don’t use outside vendors.
While visiting the park we came in here to visit. Staff is very nice. Conservatory is relatively small and a quick walk through but the trees and plants and flowers are beautiful. Birds are beautiful. Little mice running around are so cute. It’s a little pricey for what it’s worth but still a good time.
We never went as family was unable to line up to get together and difficult for the babies to get there. I asked for a refund and I believe I just got one. When the twins are older we will be there. Can't rate experience when we didn't go. Would have gone with family. I gave the experience a 5 as I have been there many moons ago.
This is a lovely place to visit! It’s beautiful and fascinating. There’s quite a few exotic birds that are entertaining to observe and koi fish as well. We spent about an hour walking around and pausing to admire. I thought the price was reasonable and felt it was a good, low key way to spend some time
It was much smaller than what I was expecting. I still enjoyed seeing the plants and the birds. A nice break from the cold weather and very relaxing.
Covered and heated conservatory on the hill overlooking downtown Vancouver. Good way to warm up in the tropics for half an hour. Lovely vegetation and exotic birds. Recommended for a quick visit.
Store opened promptly. It was very warm inside to suit the plant life and mimic the natural habit of the birds. The staff were nice and watched our stroller. It was a short beautiful walk, considering our toddler. Many beautiful, well kept birds. Maintained path and gardening.
We went on a rainy day. It was wonderful to enter this tiny blooming world within a dome. Lovely to look at the many plants, and there are a number of colorful cockattoos. The entire dome can be seen in half an hour. If its good weather if course you can go on to explore Queen Elizabeth park. Opens only at 10:00 AM which is late, in our opinion. We waited for it to open. There are restrooms on site.
We visited this tropical garden in a the bubble. The entry fee was expensive for the amount of time we were in there for approx 15-20 minutes. The tropical birds were clearly stressed at being in there , and did not look happy, pulling out their own feathers … (see photos) there were a good range of tropical plants on display. The outside gardens were well laid out and there were some good displays in the old quarry areas.
A beautiful, fun tour through an indoor display of beautiful and exotic plants, birds and fish. Can be easily done in 60-90 minutes. Cost around $13 Canadian for seniors like us. We thoroughly enjoyed it. As a bonus, afterward you get to leisurely stroll through the very large and beautiful park in which the Conservatory is located...and get some terrific views from the hilltop location. Highly recommended!
A tropical oasis featuring tons of flora & fauna & parrots ~ A delightful walk through the tropics with a multitude of flowers, palms, parrots and bridges over koi ponds. During any day, or a colder, wet day, an escape to a far away place. I walked around a couple times as each walk displayed something new.
This was so tranquil. The manicures lawns & the flowerbeds are beautiful. The paths around the Conservatory to see the Parrots was cool. I highly recommend this .
The conservatory has excellent plant life to admire, along with some exotic birds. The park is attractive to amble around in afterwards. It is a quick visit though, if you don't plan on tourign the park
Great way to spend some time and see some exotic animals and plants. Decent admission price. Can spend up to an hour or more looking around
It’s a pretty collection of tropical plants and parrots, but the way it was written up seemed like there would be a whole lot more different kinds of small, colorful songbirds birds just flying around.
Very fun, just a little small. Lots to see though! The parrots are definitely the focal point! However avoid weekends if possible as the place was packed.
Both children and adults will enjoy visiting the conservatory. The children get a sheet for items to locate during the visit. This kept them very engaged and in fact we went around the circuit twice looking of things we missed. There is so much to observe as you go through. The variety of birds is simply amazing. Then when you are done, take a nice walk through the park. Certainly a hidden gem in the city.
During winter, the trails up to the Conservatory are frozen over with snow… more challenging to reach… but once there, it is BEAUTIFUL!! The birds and foliage are breathtaking!! Highly enjoyed and will return on my next trip to Vancouver!
Visiting Vancouver on a chill and rainy Saturday, we opted to visit the indoor Bloedel Floral Conservatory and aviary located at the top of Queen Elizabeth Park. Located at Vancouver high point at 500 ft elevation, the stunning structure itself is a triodetic dome 140 feet (43 m) in diameter, 70 feet (21 m) high, and is made up of 1,490 plexiglass bubbles of different sizes and 2,324 pieces of extruded aluminum tubing. It contains 8 air circulating units and 24 mist sprayers to control temperature and humidity for the three climate zones inside the dome. [17] The controlled environment supports More than 100 exotic birds, koi fish, and 500 exotic plants and flowers including Green-winged, Hahn’s Dwarf and Blue and Gold Macaws; African, Amazon, and Eclectus parrots and a Sulphur Crested Cockatoo. The larger birds are clipped and perched, but the numerous smaller birds are free flight and equally entertaining. Fun visit.
We really enjoyed our visit to the observatory The birds were fantastic. The plants were beautiful. We had a wonderful experience there. The conservatory was one of our best excursions while we were in Vancouver and certainly the cheapest Very well priced.
Compact and chock full of tropical plants with a smattering of annuals like impatiens. Affordable for the size. Depending on how long you stay parking can be more expensive.
The conservatory is beautiful and i loved seeing the parrots. I'm not a big plant fan so we walked round in about 20 minutes.
It was fine but this tour should have as a target public: kids! It's kinda small but pretty much well organized and cleaned! The animals and plants are well treated for sure. If you have kids, just go and they will love it!
I went there with my family and my daughter she loved the most. She was so happy to see different kinda a parrots/birds there. Very beautiful flowers and green all around. It was great 😊
Everything. Especially that the construction was originally done by Thea's husband & brothers, ie. Van Construction.
They have different flowers, plants and parrots to see. Outside you may take a walk and see more trees and plants.
This is a great place to visit when visiting Queen Elizabeth Park in Vancouver. It's not very big, nor is it very expensive, but it was fun to wander around and see the birds. Most of the places like this don't have birds so that made this special. If you are visiting Vancouver, start at Bloedel and the wander the grounds of Queen Elizabeth Park (which is free) for a lovely experience.
Very well maintained, smaller than I anticipated. Only takes about 15 to walk around, you could stretch it out longer. It was quiet when we went through (6pm on a Thursday).
Great educational experience. Relaxing tropical tour with colourful plants and birds. Includes benches for sitting and convenient washrooms. Restaurant nearby is excellant.
We were told that BC Tourism Challenge would not be allowed in on the weekend as it was too busy. So that is what I will tell my clients. Don't go on the weekend. Staff are rude and the place is too crowded.
Very nice experience. Unfortunately the weather wasn’t nice but the conservatory was great. Xxxxxxxxxxxxx
Most memorable moment was dancing parrot 🦜 and two mouses 🐁 that were playing on the ground. Also beautiful flowers, big leafs .. is amazing how big leafs 🌱 are compared to people.
We stopped in the conservatory because it was winter and there was nothing blooming in the park. The conservatory is small, you basically do a loop around the building. There are definitely impressive plants and a variety of tropical birds. It's probably a little more expensive than I think it should be but I suppose you're putting it to a decent cause and an educational experience. The plants and flowers inside were very vibrant - the majority of them look fake but they are just healthy and thriving!
This place never stops amaze me. I have membership here but each visit I always find something new besides the flowers there are new beautiful birds that keep me coming back. It is a well maintained place. Rain or shine to visit. Highly recommended!
Whilst I really enjoyed this indoor tropical garden, I was a little disappointed by the aviary aspect. It was not quite as per advertising - "free flying tropical birds". The tropical birds were in various locations on the one-way route through the lush gardens, and they did not fly - wings clipped? They were beautiful and colourful and lovely to admire, just not how I had imaged the scene. I only spotted a few other birds. I'm not sure where the "over 100 exotic birds" were hiding. The tropical plants in the garden were beautifully landscaped. It was still a worthwhile experience.
Well I got dressed up in my wedding clothes and wanted to take photographs it was only my husband and myself and photographer NO WEDDING PARTY they were very rude and unprofessional then in rude manner told us we could rent it for 1000 dollars which for 3 people who had reserved tickets is complete rip off staff there need to learn thing or too about customer service.
Very very small, but lively conservatory. They have ~10 different big birds that all have their wings cut so they cannot fly, they just hang around and climb in their branches. All kinds of flowers, plants and trees, I had never seen bananas growing before, so that was a thing. They seemed to have a mouse problem, but for me it just added value to see those little guys running around, probably not so much fun for the management.
I’ve been in other conservatories in smaller cities that were far larger. The plantings were beautiful and the parrots and koi were pretty enough, but we walked slowly through, examining many of the specimens and were done in about 15 minutes. I’d thought there would be more free-flying, smaller birds but it was only the parrots sitting stationery on their posts. Nice view of the city, nice gardens out front, but the conservatory itself was a little underwhelming.
The Bloedel conservatory is unique as in all the birds inside, are rescue birds, and one bird has its own trust fund ans its owner takes it for a spa once a month! It is quite a walk from the King Edward station.(expo line) It's flat, but still DON"T walk into Queen ELizabeth park directly on W 29st traffice light junction. The directions to the Bloedel Conservatory are for drivers. It will be an up hill walk from the road (the conservatory is on top of the hill) but follow the directions to the garderns which are very colourful and don't miss the sculpture Love in the rain with all the locks. The walk down from the is easier. The conservatory does sell a few drinks etc but most faciities are outside the centre. If you take the bus there, take bus #50 False Creek SOuth from Waterfront station bayb 3 in front of the station. It changes to #15 CAMBIE when it gets to Olympic Village, but if the driver lets you stay ( we had no issue as we had day passes) get off at Cambie and 33rd Avenue as this is MUCH closer to the path to the conservatory. There are few, if any maps and lots of facilities in the park such as mini golf, tennis and golf courses. On a hot day, take a hat!
The conservatory had lots of interesting features, there are many parrots and cockatoos, they also have ponds with koi carp and a vast array of plants and tree, well worth a visit.
