Exactly as advertised. Gord quicky put us at ease and prepared us for the sailing experience. I got all the hands on experience I was looking for. The wind cooperated to move us along at a good clip. Thank you,

Highly recommend this experience. It was lots of fun, we learned the basics, and it felt like the perfect intro to sailing. Our skipper Gord was fantastic - calm, knowledgeable, and made the whole experience easy and enjoyable.
Great experience to learn some basic hands on sailing. Gord was an experienced sailor with great interactive conversations with everyone on board. He was attentive to each of the different passengers regarding their desire to be involved in the sailing experience. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone who wants to enjoy some sailing time on the water Thank you Gord! It was a great day! Nancy Z
Bundle up for a very different adventure! This was a nice way to spend an afternoon. Watch out! There are three harbors in town so make sure to scour the information for the correct harbor.
Hubby was able to steer the boat for a good portion of the trip as it was just us. I learned how heavy the sails are to raise. Once the motor shuts off, we could hear the whales blow, off in the distance. Loved it
Four fun, educational and exciting hours at sea brought out the best in our group. The wind the water great company. Gordon was a great teacher and guide. The time went so quickly we want to come back.
We sailed on the Percy Snow because it's a heavier boat and the winds were high. Despite the crashing waves, even 3 inexperienced sailors never feared. Dallas, our enthusiastic skipper, exuded competence and accommodated our every need. I was on the island without a car so he picked me up at Woodland Farms and dropped me off afterwards at the Sooke Museum. He let us all assist and even steer, though he did most of the hard work. Dallas is an educator without being didactic. Thankfully, he diplomatically recognized when it was time to sail the calmer waters of the harbour and basin. Fabulous adventure with substantive conversations and at an affordable price.
Dallas was an excellent captain. Safety was the primary concern and the comfort and wellbeing for the sailors was a high priority. We maneuvered through the harbor to the Pacific Ocean on the West Coast of Vancouver Island. The winds started out calm but picked up as we went further out. Fog hung over the water in the distance but burned off with the rise in temperature. Dallas was engaging in conversation spanning a diverse range of topics. His demeanor was calm but engaging. We had a great 4 hours on the water enjoying not only the sailing adventure but the beautiful coastline. So an overall A+ for the day!
We had an exceptional experience sailing with Starlight Sailing Adventures! Gord, our instructor and captain, was amazing — incredibly helpful and made the whole adventure even more special and memorable. The sea was beautiful, and we learned so much while having a great time. We can't wait to come back and sail more with him! A definite must try in Sooke!
Very friendly, patient, and happy sailor. This was a wonderful experience to end off spring break for the whole family!
Pulled into the parking lot and a car pulled up beside ours. It was Gord, the Captain of the boat that were going on. Started out great and got better! We are a party of 3 , Lorelei (my daughter), Wendy and myself (CaptnHerm). We motored out with me at the wheel and Gord raising the mainsail and unfurling the jib! Very slow sail, we had lunch, Gord made tea and we reminisced of the boats we sailed and places we’ve been. It was a great afternoon and a great time!
Most memorable parts was getting to steer the sailboat and enjoy the water. Not much wind and not seeing much wildlife was a bummer. No whales. Rain was miserable. Very small boat. Doesn’t look like picture.
Super great experience sailing the high seas on a less than stellar weather day made for high waves and pure excitement!
We had a great sail with Dallas, he was very knowledgeable and patient with all of our questions. We were able to glimpse some orcas and dolphins during the trip as well. An afternoon well spent!
Super fun sailing. Our captain made it interesting and fun. Got to see dolphins and we had some strong winds, I got sail big boat again.
Booked a 4 hour Sailing Adventure over 3 weeks ago. Was informed at the time that Carl would be our skipper and we would be sailing on Starlight. Was billed and paid in full promptly. Informed yesterday that, due to some health issues with a staff member, there were no boats available in Sooke?!? Instead, what was offered was for us to go to Sidney, on the other side of the island, and sail out of there despite not a single word on their site about Sidney. Well, we aren't staying in Victoria, we are staying in Sooke and a trip to Sidney is an hour-and-a-half each way. I mean, who wants to do all that windshield time, not to mention the fuel expense and general pain when we were anticipating a leisurely breakfast and stroll to the dock for our sail...in Sooke? So I dug in a bit and saw on their updated calendar that the vessel we were assigned to, Starlight, was now booked for a 5 day trip and we were kicked to the curb. Had Gord offered anything sailing out of Sooke, I would have happily accepted. Instead, he proposed a burdensome, more expensive and certainly not equal alternative that would have utterly shattered the expected tranquility of a leisurely sail out of Sooke. No thank you! The whole experience left me feeling like I was dealing with an airline; bumping us for a more lucrative opportunity, the disingenuous and delusional offer of an inferior, more difficult and non-viable alternative and the hollow apologies that Gord wished "none of this would have happened". Well, had he honored our arrangement none of this would have happened. Had he provided a viable alternative, none of this would have happened. He did neither. Bottom line is his shuffling around charters and money grab caught him with his pants down and, if it happened to me it could happen to you also. Caveat emptor... BTW - I discussed this with Gord so he is not unaware
Gord was a great captain. If you are interested in sailing, this is an excellent way to spend the day.
Wonderful experience, that we'll never forget! Gord is a great instructor, with so much knowledge, and beautiful stories to share. He made us feel welcome and safe at sea. We loved every minute, and the fact we got to experience the sea in a little wilder conditions, and also in its tranquility.
Outstanding!! Gord was kind, knowledgeable, friendly, and an easy laugh. For those who wanted to, the sailing was very hands on under Gord's thoughtful guidance. We sailed the Strait of Juan de Fuca approaching international waters. Perfect conditions and a fantastic 32' keelboat in excellent shape. Exhilarating!
Fabulous trip. Intrepid novices to sea sailing in anything bigger than a dingy but had a wonderful time. Gord, the instructor was fantastic. Highly recommend this for anybody wanting a taste of sailing.
We are from the UK, visiting Vancouver Island, and booked a 4 hour sailing trip with Gord. We had a brilliant time. Gord is a very patient and knowledgable instructor as well as being great company with a good sense of humour. Even though we were novices Gord encouraged us to get involved with the sailing, letting us take the helm and put up/take down sails etc. Got to see some lovely scenery along with thoroughly enjoying the sailing. Would highly recommend the trip.
I had a wonderful time, Gord went above-and-beyond to ensure I had a pleasurable experience and Dallas was and excellent instructor.
Our Captain (Dallas) made sure we had the best experience possible and encouraged us to let him know where we would like to go and what we would like to to do. He was very knowledgeable about the area and kept our interest throughout the afternoon. The purpose of our trip was to spread my brother's ashes and he was very respectful accommodating.
What a wonderful experience! Truly memorable learning about the boat and the techniques to sail. Mitchell was very personable and knowledge not only about sailing but also some historical facts of the area. We felt comfortable and encouraged every step of the journey. We were not sure the type of sail boat we would be on as the photo images on the site differ than from what we actually sailed on. This is the only reason we weren’t able to give a full star review. Thank you for a wonderful memory.
This was such a great thing to do on Vancouver Island, when there are so many tours to choose from. We had a 4 hour sail with Dallas. We helped a bit. He did a lot. We learned what we wanted to know and enjoyed the day tremendously. This was easy to book and communicate with Gord. Dallas was very chill and interesting and we learned a lot about the island. He also made a point of taking us to see the seals sunning themselves. It was a great way to spend an authentic afternoon on Vancouver Island.
Our entire family had an exceptional time! It was the ideal gift for my husband‘s birthday! Gord was incredible at coaching us any giving instructions on how to sail. Neither of us had ever sailed before and we had an exceptional time! I highly recommend this tour for anyone remotely interested in sailing. Gord was also wonderful with our two children who thoroughly enjoyed themselves on the 4 hour trip. We all learned a ton and had a blast doing it.
We had a great trip and our Skipper Mitchell was super kind and patient with teaching us how to sail.
