We booked two nights at the Old Rectory whilst visiting Hastings. It’s perfectly placed at the top of Old Hastings giving easy access to the whole area. The property has been decorated to a high standard and the rooms were comfortable and spacious. Lionel and his team were unfailingly polite, friendly and helpful. Would definitely recommend if you’re visiting the area.

Sunday 5/4/26. Roast dinner with an Indian influence. What a great idea! The food was amazing, albeit a little slow to arrive. In our opinion though that meant that it was all freshly cooked and not pre-made and heated in a microwave. The staff were great and kept us informed about delays in service. The dining room was clean and well presented. The venue is first and foremost a beautiful Guest House and we were advised when we booked about this, so seeing other staff attending to this side of the business was not a shock or a problem. It didn't detract from the ambiance of the dining room. Well done to all those involved and we look forward to returning when you have another of these themed dining experiences.
Easter day "indian" pop up..billed as "3 souls in a bowl" in enticing posters.. Fiasco . Tatty furniture.(allegedly designer effect according to unrecognisable recent Times puff) loud tinned music on arrival. Someone dumped old garden chairs outside window as we looked out! Half pint drink (v limited range) served in pint glass. un-ironed old stained bedsheet as tablecloth. Ugh. Food 1 _1/2 hours late. Single veg option not wholly edible. Roast lamb v. good if overcooked but hardly a shred of indian influence. Totally randomised slow service. Someone else wandered thro restaurant with washing pile..then 2 different people tried to bill me with allegedly discretionary 12 1/2 % service pre-added. Last straw. Whole eposide so chaotic and awful almost funny. Whole roomful of discontents straining their easter day bonhomie. Some not even conducted to table !! Something must have gone very wrong on the day..but so many elements avoidable.
We went here for mother's day for the afternoon tea, it was absolutely gorgeous. Staff were attentive, personal and professional but not overbearing, food was delicious and everything was set beautifully. Impeccably clean.
Absolutely wonderful stay. After a 5.5hr solo car journey I arrived exhausted.. I was immediately offered a cup of tea and taken through to the lounge... Sitting in front of the roaring log fire a teapot and slice of cake soon had me perking up.... My case was magically whisked up to my room whilst I enjoyed my tea. My room was beautiful, on the second floor overlooking the garden... Beautifully done with lots of thoughtful touches... Beautiful toiletries in the bathroom, a robe hanging to wrap myself in, the usual hairdryer but also lovely cosy hot water bottles if you fancied snuggling up... The bed was so comfortable... I don't sleep well generally but did in that bed!! Waking up I realised it was far later than I expected it to be. Breakfast amazing again... Home smoked fish, home made sausages, beautifully presented and tasted wonderful. I didn't need anything else to eat until I reached home later that evening. I had travelled for a music event, the staff the night before when I was asking how to walk to the venue even offered to walk me there... It was only a few minutes away. The following morning I was asked how my evening out had been... So thoughtful and well remembered. I loved it... And highly highly recommend this hotel to anyone
