Absolutely appalling experience – save your money! We spent nearly £400 for one night at East Sussex National Hotel, including a murder mystery evening and three-course dinner, and the experience was horrendous from start to finish. On arrival, reception sent us upstairs without checking us in. When we asked a member of staff why, we were spoken to in an incredibly condescending manner and laughed at for arriving early, despite simply wanting to check into our room. Reception staff were equally rude, with no apology whatsoever. The room was filthy and dated, with a dirty bathroom, grimy furniture and windows that wouldn't even open. We'd paid extra for wine and chocolates, only to receive a cheap bottle of Prosecco and a small box of Milk Tray. The murder mystery dinner was just as disappointing. There weren't enough bread rolls for everyone, staff ignored us when we asked for help, and our supposed cheeseboard consisted of two tiny pieces of dried-out cheese. Absolutely disgusting. Bar prices were outrageous, and the staff were consistently rude and unwelcoming. We also tried to order room service and were told by the woman on the phone that we had to provide our card details and pay a £50 holding fee before placing our order. When we tried to order again later that evening, the overnight staff member told us this fee arrangement wasn't a thing and that we could simply pay on checkout, as we'd originally expected. Why were we given completely different information by staff at the same hotel? The overnight member of staff was, incidentally, the only genuinely pleasant person we encountered. Throughout our stay, we felt looked down on and completely unwelcome, despite spending nearly £400. I was so uncomfortable with how we were treated that I didn't feel able to challenge everything or ask for a refund at the time. This was supposed to be a special night away with my boyfriend. Instead, we got poor food, a dirty room and some of the worst customer service I've experienced. The hotel feels outdated and neglected, and the prices absolutely do not reflect the standard provided. Save your money and go somewhere else. I would never stay here again.

Great stay and play hotel for golfers including health spa. Set menu food was tasty, but they charged extra for another bread roll and a £20 supplement for a piece of sirloin steak on the menu, this was, by far, too much and we were not told about this when ordering food some weeks before. Overall, a good stay, but please don't take the mickey out of your guests with food choices, we know how much steak costs Mr. Owner.
This place is absolutely huge… like ridiculously so! Came for a lads spa break and we were in the rooms 230+ Was essentially a 4/5min walk to the spa, bar restaurant… But seconds to the golf area… perfect if we’d been there for golf haha. The rooms are absolutely fine right now but probably 2/3years away from being “tired” and in need of a refresh! The bar, spa and main hotel are stunning, the grounds are amazing and the golf course looks amazing! We might come back for a round some time We had a x2 nights bed breakfast and dinner and x2 spa treatments for £220 each… which was quite frankly amazing! The bar is London prices but don’t expect anything less these days! The food was good and the service was amazing! Cannot fault it for a weekend spa break would definitely come back!
Had a spa day with afternoon tea with my partner. The facilities were great, everything was clean and the staff was polite. We enjoyed jacuzzi and a steam room the most. Afternoon tea was nice but we didn't receive sandwiches. When we asked a waitress for what reason we are not having them, she said that for 2 people afternoon tea in their place is served without the sandwichws which was really weird and we were upset about it. The full Afternoon tea without sandwiches just because there are only 2 of us?? Seems ridiculous as it was paid for the whole afternoon tea. It's a small thing but it matters as it made the whole experience a bit disappointing... The scones were very tasty and soft though. The other sweets were delicious as well. The view was wonderful and overall it was a nice day for a birthday celebration but situation with the sandwiches made it a bit bitter. Never in my life I was served afternoon tea without sandwiches. The whole point of the traditional afternoon tea is to have 3-tiered tray so having only 2 seems like a strange cost-cutting.
We went for afternoon tea and was very disappointed by our experience. The waiter didn’t seem very interested in us and didn’t listen to us. It wasn’t very busy and just one member of staff was dealing with service for afternoon tea even though lots of staff about. The waiter came over and asked if there were any allergies or dislikes. Which we had a couple. He didn’t ask about drinks so one of our party went to the bar to get them. The food came out. With different stands for our party with allergies and dislikes which was good. The sandwich’s were a bit dry on the edges( not sure how long they had been out for) the scones and cakes were ok. Tea came in variety of tea pots and coffee pots with one pot of milk for a party of 8 and one tea strainer, another of each would have made it easier. Also as they are a largish hotel would have thought they would always have some decaffeinated tea or offered an alternative. We had gone for the tea with a glass of Prosecco but one of the party had to go up a manager and ask for it. While we had her attention we asked what cream one of the party had got as he didn’t like cheese but he was didn’t have a dairy allergy. He was given a dairy free yoghurt which was runny, which doesn’t work with a scone. The manager did change this. His cakes were different to ours too and were terrible. I know it’s not the easiest to make a variety of vegan but these days they are improving and if you can’t make them there are products out there. He only ate one of his bits of cake completely. And tried the others but were not good. We shared those that we had on the table with him. Not once did the waiter come and check if everything was ok or we needed anything else. And when we finished we just left and again no one said anything, a good bye or hope you enjoyed your visit would have gone a long way. The best part was that we got together as a family
