Gorgeous old pub set on a hill in a tiny village (on a bus route from Corfe Castle to Swanage) with the most incredible views across the valley towards Corfe Castle and the beautiful Purbeck Hills. We stayed for one night in the Chapman’s Pool room, which was really lovely and comfortable. The room and bathroom could do with a bit of TLC but it was clean and served our needs for the night. The staff member who greeted us was really friendly and welcoming. We had dinner there, which was of very good quality. The staff on duty were very polite and friendly, but the service was a bit hit and miss. We were given desert menus but no one came back to take our order so we called it a night. The breakfast was again of very good quality; local ingredients and very well cooked, and was served in the dining room with outstanding views towards Corfe Castle. We’d love to stay again sometime in the future.

We went here for dinner recently. Food is always good with fantastic views. This time though, I was disappointed with my meal. I ordered cheese soufflé with walnut salad. Although the soufflé was delicious, the salad was more of a garnish, being the size of a coaster so I was left rather hungry while the rest of my party tucked into huge plates of steak, chips and a large amount of salad. This was not what I expected from the menu and should come with a decent amount of accompanying salad
We booked a table outside in August for our Sunday evening meal, as we were in the area for a long weekend break. The fish had already sold out by 6pm. I had the falafel on flat bread; both were only vaguely warm and tasted shop bought. The bread was too chewy for my tastes. My partners scampi and chips were OK, he said, but the peas were cold and like bullets. For London prices, I'd expect more. The service was friendly. The beer was tasty. The ladies loos were a mess though. Don't think they are coping well with demand as it's popular.
This is a great pub. The location is stunning- one of the best beer garden views in the UK. The food was excellent, particularly the cheese and date croquettes and the seafood. It was busy so took a while to order but it was worth it. Friendly staff and great old building and good local ciders.
Went for lunch on May Bank Holiday Monday. Great atmosphere. The service was very good. The views from the garden were stunning with Corfe Castle in the distance. Most of the food that we ordered was quite good. The gammon steak unfortunately was not. Very dry (like leather) great triple cooked chips and crispy eggs were a good choice but not worth the prices. Such a great pub in a fantastic setting but let down by fairly mediocre food. I was going to give 2 stars but the service and the location was excellent.
