The Charlton Inn

Called in hoping for food, but sadly the kitchens were shut down for some reason. The gentleman behind the bar was a nice chap, most apologetic. Suggested other possibilities for me. It looked a nice clean place, plenty of tables and the menu online looked good value, better pricing than many in the area, so it's disappointing to miss out on trying it out. Maybe next time we're in Dorset!

Used to be a lovely pub with previous landlord. Had our car club meet this evening and had pre-ordered food. Would not let anyone who hadn’t ordered food have any. There were 17 of us and the people who had food said it was cold, overcooked, tasteless and several were sent back. Chef then left before the rest of the food arrived. Lots of refunds! Felt sorry for the young girl and the lady behind the bar who were left to sort out the mess. There was a director from the company there who left things to the girls to sort out.

Booked a room with a king-size bed and ended up with a single. The room itself is old and dated with fixtures and fittings worn or not working. Once the tap was turned on you couldn't turn it off. The room itself looked and felt dirty. As for the food in the restaurant, service was good. I had the fish and chips. Fish was greasy and the chips were overcooked on the outside and undercooked inside. The restaurant couldn't provide a VAT reciept for my meal. I followed this up with an email to also get a VAT reciept for my room. I recieved no response. It is reasonable value and possibly ok to get your head down for the night if you don't mind the above issues. For me, I'd sooner pay a little bit more.

We had a wonderful stay! The room was beautiful, comfortable, and very clean. It had everything we needed for a pleasant and comfortable stay. The place is lovely, and the hosts were very kind and welcoming. Highly recommended!
