We had a really lovely evening cooking and dining with Sarala in her beautiful French apartment. We shared the evening with 2 other couples which made the whole experience feel much like a dinner party with everyone helping with the cooking😊 It was great fun and I would recommend it to anyone wishing to have a truly unique food based evening. The food was delicious 😋

Itinerary
-Market Tour & Cooking Class Meet me in the morning at Bordeaux’s oldest and largest market and enjoy a coffee and a croissant together before shopping for our ingredients. -Cooking Class Only Meet me in my charming neighborhood on the steps of Bordeaux’s oldest church. We’ll stop at my local bakery for a fresh baguette before heading to my kitchen. The Experience: We’ll get to know each other over an apéro (a drink and small bites) as I introduce our seasonal menu. I’ll guide you through each recipe, and you can participate as much or as little as you like. We’ll usually prepare dessert first, followed by a starter and main course. Depending on the season, dishes may include Mushroom Bourguignon, Beet Tartare, Tomato Tarte Tatin, Crème Brûlée, or Mousse au Chocolat. Everything is a vegan take on French classics. After cooking, we’ll share a candlelit dinner filled with conversation and laughter. I’m also happy to share my favorite tips for discovering Bordeaux. Please note: Due to regulations, alcohol isn’t included, but you’re welcome to bring your own wine or purchase a bottle at a local wine shop along the way to enjoy with the class.

The culinary experience with Sarala in Bordeaux was exquisite and memorable. From meeting at the bustling Marché des Capucins and sharing a coffee, to picking up fresh ingredients for the meal we cooked and stopping at a local caviste to select a bottle of wine—it was a perfectly planned time. And the food was delicious!
We had a lovely dinner in our hosts apartment. It was nice to see a little more of the city, hear about her experiences living in Bordeaux and cook a delicious meal together.
We had a great time with Samara learning about local French cuisine. The beurre blanc turned out wonderfully. The shopping stops before we arrived at her apartment added to the evening and dinner accompaniments. This was a personal experience and not a big stainless chef’s kitchen. If that’s what you’re looking for, she’s the one to go to. Bon appetite!
Fun low-key night of cooking. Sarala has great recipes and suggestions for veggie/ vegan replacements in french recipes. The meal we made tasted great! Highly recommend.
I'd do it again! The host was gracious, knowledgeable, and incredibly accommodating. The setting was absolutely wonderful, and the instruction was thoughtful, thorough, and genuinely helpful throughout the experience. We prepared both the dinner and dessert ourselves, then sat down to enjoy a beautifully presented and carefully plated meal together. I highly recommend this experience to anyone visiting France. It offers a rare opportunity to experience French culture in a warm, personal, and intimate way that feels both authentic and memorable.
This was a wonderful experience! She took us to her local shops and then had a delicious vegan meal planned. We all had a night full of French cooking, laughter and sharing. It felt like a dinner party in her lovely French home.
Absolutely fantastic experience. First, since it was a cooking class, the food was absolutely delicious. Sarlat was very capable of engaging with people with widely different expertise in cooking. And her life experiences made for very interesting conversation. We absolutely enjoyed the experience and would strongly recommend. Vegan French sounds a bit strange but it was delicious without compromise (speaking as a meat eater).
During our stay in Bordeaux my wife and I had a unique and wonderful culinary experience with Sarala. The special day started with Sarala at the Capucins Market, which opened in 1749. We shared coffee and croissants and wandered around the spectacular market buying things needed for lunch. After the market Sarala guided us through gorgeous medieval streets, stopping at a few special food & wine shops en route to her home. Once at her home she made us completely welcome and we all joined in creating a special vegan lunch. Sarala was a wonderful hostess. We will never forget the experience for which we are ever so grateful.
Sarala applies her cookbook writing expertise to translate French sensibilities and dishes into plant-based recipes. Doing this in a home-based setting left me feeling that I could replicate it with friend at home. The explanations were clear and simple, the recipes doable. The atmosphere was that of making dinner with a friend. I was happy to find out Sarala also offers non-vegan and vegetarian classes and is considering adding wine pairings. I am looking forward to taking another class here the next time I am in Bordeaux!
This cooking class was so lovely! My friend and I were in Bordeaux for the weekend and the class with Sarala felt like we were visiting our friend. Her vegan dishes are truly creative. No artificial food or fake cheese kind of things which I am not a fan of so it was wonderful to see how she had interesting alternatives based on whole foods, such as her tahini cheese. Thanks so much for this wonderful evening!
A super evening. Very chilled but educational. Certainly changed my mind about vegan cooking. Highly recommend.
Vegetarian french cooking?! Sacré bleu! Cannot wait to order Sarala’s beautiful cookbook and try every recipe! Including hands-on preparation techniques. A truly memorable and life enriching experience given by a passionate expat in a gloriously authentic setting.
Sarala was a fabulous host/chef. My wife and I had the evening with just us and Sarala and it felt like having dinner with a friend. She took classic Bordelaise dishes and made them vegan. Beet tartare instead of beef tartare was brilliant. She used coconut cream instead of cream for the soup which was delicious. We will definitely book this again next time we are in Bordeaux.
I thoroughly enjoyed my evening with Sarala. I am not vegan, but thought I would learn some recipes for my daughter. Sarala has a gorgeous, comfortable apartment, is very knowledgeable and creative in vegan cooking, and is a warm, genuine person. I highly recommend this class. I had a lovely time.
We were 3 Irish friends in Bordeaux for 2 nights and looking to do something foodie and interesting. This cooking experience with Sarala was a lovely, interesting and inspiring evening with her take on French classic dishes using only plant based ingredients. Sarala was a supreme hostess, balancing cooking lessons and thoughts on life in Bordeaux, all while making us feel so welcome in her home. My favourite part of the cooking lesson was making the creme brulé 🔥 and just the fun conversation over the evening. This was a very unique and unforgettable evening. Thank you again Sarala 🙏
Sarala is a fantastic host. She explained the ingredients that we would be using, the process for making the dishes, and helped us make a delicious meal and dessert. Along the way, she told us about various options for making similar dishes at home. In short, both the food and the experience were excellent!
I had such a lovely time at this cozy cooking workshop! The setting was charming and full of French character, creating a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Sarala our hostess was friendly, well-informed, and made the whole experience enjoyable and accessible. It was such a treat to learn how to prepare classic French plant based recipes...a refreshing and inspiring twist. I’d highly recommend this experience!
I spent a wonderful evening at this intimate cooking class. The venue is beautifully decorated and authentically French. The host was delightful, knowledgeable and the class was easy to follow. Making traditional French dishes with no animal products was a unique experience. I would definitely recommend this for all ages
Wonderfully comfortable experience where my family learned about French dining, cuisine, and of course preparing delicious French food. My 10 year old son and I recreated the dishes after our class as they were so delicious. Sarala was very flexible with our dietary restrictions and we used amazing substitutes.
