Great experience! Kevin is a wonderful guide and ensured that my food allergies were taken into account for the tasting portion of the tour. Direct pick up and drop off from hotels is also a plus. The dune was incredible to see, even if the weather was overcast and windy the view was beautiful.
The Dunes are incredible, with amazing views! Our wonderful and entertaining guide Kevin filled us with knowledge and laughter and definitely added to what made our day. Our special oyster meal was fun and interesting and we capped off the day with gelato in Arcachon. Highly recommend and if possible get Kevin!
Kevin was a fantastic guide We had a wonderful day exploring The Dunes and Arcachon finishing with a lunch of oysters and seafood by the river Thank you Kevin
Great experience kevin picked us up from the hotel. We first drove to the dunes a spectacular place for climbing and admiring the wonderful views from the top. Lunch with oysters and shrimps at a little restaurant was also great. Finally an hour in Arcachon. Overall a highly recommended experience Kevin was a great and fun driver/ guide.
Kevin was a fantastic guide. The dunes were so interesting. He led us up the path to get a great view of the expanse. Next was the oyster, shrimp etc tasting. It was more than we could eat and a lot of fun. Finishing the day we had some time at the beach so we could have a refreshing swim. All in all Kevin made sure we all had a great day thanks Kevin!
Kevin made this experience a 10 out of 10. He was on time and informative and made the day super special. The oyster tasting was amazing and the Dunes were beautiful and he was so accommodating and even bought us a birthday treat!!
We spent a delightful day climbing the Dune du Pilat, eating oysters and shrimp and exploring the town. Kevin was a safe driver and made the day extra fun with his humorous personality .
This was a wonderful tour. The dunes of Pilat are a must see when in Bordeaux. Arcachon beach was also beautiful and the oyster/shrimp/wine lunch was a lot of fun. Our guide Kevin made it so much fun and a memorable experience.
One needs to be in shape to climb the dunes. We are hikers and had no problems but our group was overweight and out of shape and could not do it. Exceptional guide, views, food
Kevin, our guide was fantastic. The whole day ran smoothly but we were never rushed. On the return journey my wife started to feel unwell and Kevin dealt with the situation very professionally, he changed the drop off order so we were 1st to be dropped off he even ensured that we were brought right to the hotel door. Kevin also sent an email the next day to inquire as to how my wife was feeling Thank you Kevin for all your hard work, Chris y Norma
Interesting. Great fun climbing Dune, but hard work in heat that day which was 30 degrees. Get there early as very popular. Oyster tasting yummy. Our guide, Kevin informative and great fun.
This is pretty much an all day affair. Broken up nicely by the dune hike, then very nice lunch spot, and ending with a walk on the beach or quick dip in Arcachon bay. We had beautiful weather. And kevin was delightful!! He was very entertaining and seemingly very French. Above all, he was considerate and kind to all in the group. I highly recommend going here to see these dunes!!!
The guide is exceptional and a lot of fun. We had a very full day and got to experience a lot. The oyster tasting was amazing and I could’ve had many more. I very much recommend this experience.
our tour guide, Kevin, was terrific! He was knowledgeable and took things at a reasonable pace. Our lunch was fantastic! Thank you, Kevin, for a very enjoyable experience!
Trip is NOT for older people 65+ and certainly not for people not used to strenuous exercise. That being said it is a great trip and the dunes are wonderful. The oysters and shrimp are great and the beach is very nice, not easy to find a changing place but doable. I am 74 and do 5 miles a day on the elliptical and it is not easy. No shade bring water. Guide is very accommodating.
I can’t say enough good things about the Dunes/Oysters Tasting/Arcachon tour. First of all, our guide Kevin picked us up at our hotel, which was such a gift. Not many guides offer that luxury. Kevin was an amazing guide; he was really funny, engaging with everyone, and very knowledgeable. He’s a true local and has many insights and interesting stories about the region. The Dunes were incredible, and the lunch was a once-in-lifetime experience. He chose a restaurant that is off the beaten path, and we indulged ourselves with pâté and escargot to start, great wine, and finally delicious oysters and shrimp. We sat on a beautiful terrace overlooking the water. It was amazing. Arcachon was last, and the beautiful promenade by the ocean was the perfect way to enjoy the sunny weather and stunning scenery. Thank you Kevin for a perfect day. I highly recommend this tour.
Perfect way to see Arcachon and the sea! Wonderful balance of dunes, delicious local oysters, shrimp and wine, and seaside town of Arcachon! Book it!!
It was a great day out! The dune was beautiful and lunch was great. Be aware that the dune walk is strenuous! I'm in reasonably good shape, but I struggled a bit, as did others in our group. Kevin was a friendly helpful guide, but he was much more comfortable with the Spanish speakers than the English speakers. And he switched between extremes of "no hurry, take your time" and "hurry up, we have to rush."
Such an amazing day with some climbing up to and along the dunes and so worth it! Drove to oyster farm area for fresh oysters and a littje free time at neighboring seaside town
Our day visiting Dune of Pilat and a lunch of oysters with our guide, Kevin, was fantastic. An easy drive, beautiful scenery, and great to have variety. I would highly recommend if your in the Bordeaux area.
Kevin was an excellent tour guide. He was patient and informative. We had a great day and especially enjoyed the lunch with local wine and oysters. Our son had a great time playing on the sand dunes.
From start to finish, Kevin created a memorable experience. The highlight of the day was the fresh oyster, shrimp, and wine lunch. The dunes were magnificent, with a climb that might be strenuous for older folks (like us) , but Kevin is there to help you take it slow and easy if necessary. The final stop was the lovely upscale seaside resort of Arcachon. The beaches were beautiful and Kevin helped us find a seaside cafe with delicious coffee and ice cream! After admiring the signature white and red houses, we headed back to our hotel in Bordeaux. Highly recommend visitors to Bordeaux take this day trip to the coast.
the visit to Pilat was a good experience itself with the very good weather. the oyster tasting to follow was even better. scenery of the little oyster farm village is good and the oyster (or other seafood) was fresh and tasted wonderful. the tour operator also did an excellent job on the whole 1/2 day outting
A gem just 30 minutes from the city centre our guide Kevin was very communicative picked us up at Airbnb we arrived at the dunes de Pyla which is a true natural wonder and so peaceful. We were given the perfect amount on information then ate the most amazing oysters (and shrimps ) from the local producers
This tour was wonderful and so well balanced. Gallad, our tour guide was so friendly and down to earth as well as knowledgeable as well as fun. The dunes are an incredible once in a lifetime sight. There is bathrooms and cafes located at the bottom of the dunes as well. We had a drive through Arcachon which was full of history. Then finished off with a relaxing, filling lunch of incredibly tasty and fresh oysters/prawns/pate/bread/pickles and of course, wine! Learned about the oyster industry and had a good look around the old shacks and oyster village. Lovely group of 8 people and a comfortable van ride, all in all a very full and rewarding day that we will never forget! Merci beaucoup Gallad.
Kevin picked us up, then 2 other couples, before heading for the Dunes. He knows his subject, and he gets you up those dunes and back down -- not too quickly, thankfully. Be sure to bring a hat and water - you will be standing out in the sun for 2-3 hours. And wear shoes that you can dump the sand out of easily; they fill up fast. As a reward for hiking the dunes, he took us to a small oyster cafe where you sit outside and they serve the freshest oysters you could want. He also provides wine, bread, sea snails, pate, butter, and shrimp (if you don't like oysters). But the oysters are great. I had no problem eating MY 12. And Kevin even brought several varieties of Tabasco sauce (since it is not provided by the cafe). Loved this place. The oysters were everything we hoped for since they're farm-raised in this area. We made it back to Bordeaux after a short stop in Archachon (beach resort area with shopping) but 2+ hours later than we expected. We just made it to our 4 o'clock food & wine tasting tour. Overall, really enjoyed the day. Kevin did a great job of keeping 2 French-speaking Canadians and 1 English speaking passengers fully informed.
This tour is great if you want to see a lot in a day. Kevin, our guide took us to the Dune du Pilat in the morning and we had about an hour there. I think that this is enough. We had a superb lunch of oysters, prawns, whelks, pork pate washed down with white wine in La Cabane de Tapioou (in La Teste de Buch). This was a really good lunch and I was stuffed. The final stop of the day trip was Arcachon. We had one hour here. This is enough time to walk along the beach and have an ice cream but not enough time to explore the town. It would be nice to have another hour to explore the town but I appreciate that some other travellers don't want to spend that much time on a day trip and would prefer to get back to Bordeaux early. I would definitely recommend this trip. Our guide, Kevin was very efficient in getting us to our destinations in good time.
Very interesting trip. The dunes are magnificent. Highly recommended if done in the morning when it is quiet. Kevin was very informed, attentive and an excellent host at lunchtime. It was an enjoyable experience.
Tour includes 3 stops. The first two were my favorites. The dune had amazing views It does involve some steps or else climbing a steep hill. The stop at La Teste de Buch included delicious oysters, shrimp, pate, bread and wine. Kevin was quite knowledgeable and attended to all guests as needed.
So, first, consider you attitude towards oysters. If you already know you like oysters, then go ahead and take this tour because you probably will enjoy it. If you don’t know you opinion of oysters then keep other tour options in mind and consider their relative merits. I don’t remember ever (I’m 60.) having eaten a raw oyster before, so I had no opinion about oysters other than I had heard that region is famous for great oysters. On this tour, I ordered six oysters, I ate those six oysters, I was not disgusted by them, and I decided that there many other things that I would prefer to eat (such as sushi/sashimi) and I would likely never eat another raw oyster again. Second, be aware that it is difficult to walk on sand and this dune is 100 meters (330 feet) high. And being next to the North Atlantic makes it very windy and frequently wet, which makes climbing up and across and down this dune HARD, not impossible, but difficult. So if you have balance or walking issues then don’t start up the dune, especially on a wet windy day. Third, our tour driver was not the best driver and nearly side-swiped a few cars on the highway going from and to Bordeaux. That made me somewhat uncomfortable especially considering that we were in the van moving for about three hours. Our guide-driver would probably do satisfactorily as an express courier/package delivery driver, but not as a chauffeur.
the ride to the dune iwaa not long( good to start early & ends early) & the tour guide was professional and made the tour easy & enjoyable!
This tour was such a great experience! Kevin was a wonderful guide, both knowledgeable and friendly. There was plenty of variety as we climbed the dunes, were rewarded with a great view, ate a scrumptious lunch of oysters, pâté and prawns, and later had a choice to have a swim , go shopping or grab a snack in Arcachon.
Fun and interesting! Kevin went above and beyond to ensure a memorable experience! We were not prepared for the amount of “uphill” trudging thru sand to get to the dune so be sure to wear appropriate footwear if you do this. Would not recommend for anyone who has difficulty walking or climbing stairs. Kevin took us to a second spot to see the dune and it was spectacular. The oyster, shrimp & wine tasting exceeded expectations in the best way. There were 8 adults (including ourselves) in our group. Small size allowed enough time to enjoy all aspects and the flexibility to do so. Would not recommend taking this tour with a large group.
Fantastic day with a lot of history and stories shared about the places visited. Kevin was a great guide
Fantastic trip. Pick up on time. Kevin was friendly and professional really helpful and informative. A most unusual day and so good to have an early start to avoid the crowds at the Dune The oysters and prawns en route to Arcachon were fantastic as was the oyster hut. Arcachon worth seeing too. Soft sand and stunning old houses.
Kevin was a friendly guide who structured an enjoyable outing. He speaks French, English, and Spanish, which was helpful. I say 'structured' because he ensured we left early enough to avoid traffic to the dune and arrived at a time when the dune was not crowded, the parking was easy, and the temperature was not uncomfortable. It was much more crowded and warmer when we left. Understanding that walking on sand can be difficult, he emphasized that we were not in a hurry and there was 'no stress'. After we left the dune, he took us to a nice oyster shack known only to locals where we had oysters, shrimp, and wine. It was a relaxing break. I recommend Kevin as your guide for a tour of the dune of Pilat.
This trip was amazing and we are so glad we went. Our tour guide, Kevin, was very informative and also had a great sense of humor. He spoke fluent French for the French couple and very good English for the American tourists. The climb up to the top of the Dune is a bit strenuous but Kevin was very helpful in navigating us safely and accommodating to special needs. The views from the top are spectacular. It is a must do experience assuming you can climb up and down the Dune. Kevin took us to a local oyster place outside of Arcachon which was also amazing and fun. The local oysters, shrimp, and wine were delicious and our group had plenty of food and drink for a fantastic lunch. Arachon itself is very commercialized but the walk on the beach boardwalk after lunch was worth the experience. I highly recommend this trip and book with Kevin if you can!
This place is a “don’t miss” if you are in the Bordeaux area! Stunning vistas from the dunes over the Atlantic and the experience going to the local oyster eatery and farm were both wonderful travel memories. The beach side town of Arcachon was lovely. The beach and shopping are superb. Kevin was a fantastic guide and I do not think the experience would have been the same without him. He was knowledgeable about the history of the area, geology the dune formation, and the oyster farming process. Kevin’s driving was exemplary and he was very patient…especially when we were climbing the dunes. The dune walk and ascent was a little tough. Definitely not something for folks who are not fit. .
Best tour! We absolutely loved it. Our guide was a sociable and funny chap. We could not fault the tour. You get to see a beautiful dune (and climb it), eat some wonderful seafood where the locals go, and see a coastal time. Hands down would do this again given the opportunity.
Kevin was amazing . He went out of his way to make sure everyone was looked after. The tour itself was fantastic we battled the traffic and all the way we got to know about each area on the way. The Dune de Pilat was spectacular, we all climbed to the top and got shown all the best places to get our photo moment and learnt all about the dunes and the local farming Something we will never forget. We then went on to enjoy local oysters, prawns and sea snails and a few bottles of wine. What a great experience. We then arrived in the sea village of Arcachon and enjoyed a bit of time to ourself taking in the ocean views enjoying relaxing by the water. This trip and guide was a 10 out of 10 .
It was a fun experience. We learned a lot about the dunes. The oysters, the shrimp, the wine and the pate were delicious.
Dune was beautiful, blue ocean amazing place ! Fresh oysters, friendly guide.Worth to go . Early morning trip is better, less crowded.
Excelllent guide. Timely and informative. The Dunes were fantastic. Oyster tasting was exceptional. Could have used Air Conditioning in the van on the way back.
Kevin was a wonderful guide, focused on showing us all the Cape had to offer. He went the extra mile to find a place that was open for our oyster tasting!
We had a great time. Cap-Ferret and beach views were beautiful. Our guide, Kévin lead us through the light house and small little fisherman village at relaxing pace. We ended the tour with lunch at a cute little oyster restaurant with a beautiful view of the water and colorful houses.
Kevin was very attentive from the start. Well explained everything and the doubts were resolved too. The delicious oysters, I had never eaten them this way and it was excellent. We also met the city of Arcachon. I had to get back to Bordeaux for a meeting and Kevin made sure I got there on time. I highly recommend.
Kevin is a friendly and convivial companion. With him the hours flew by. The tour starts from the hotel and goes directly to the magnificent Dunes where you spend about 2 hours walking. On the way back Kevin took us to the village of Aranchon where we had lunch with excellent oysters and prawns. A walk along the seafront in Aranchon is a must. Absolutely recommended. Thank you, Kevin. Aldo
It's worth the effort to climb. The magnificent tasting. Kevin the friendly guide and good support. Recommended
Everything was very well organized. Super nice and funny guides. Everyone was involved. The dune was great. Lunch was perfect. I highly recommend this excursion. A crazy experience;)
