Went to the museum without organising it in advance. Wonderful little museum. Great audio tour and friendly personnel. Learned a lot!

Itinerary
In the building of the royal broker Louis XV, discover three centuries of history and prestige of the ‘grands vins de Bordeaux’. The vaulted cellars built in 1720 depict the work of the coopers and the traditional wine aging practices of traders in the nineteenth century. The cellars also illustrate the Bordeaux wine trade with a number of collections that take you beyond the two seas. The spirit of Chartrons and the Bordeaux wine trade are captured with the sophisticated architectural style of the 18th century. Various artifacts and archival documents trace the exceptional careers of the great merchant families as well as the ancestral knowledge of workers in the cellars. The wine tasting: At the end of your visit, you can partake in a wine tasting of two wines in the boutique of the museum. Here, you will learn how to differentiate between the grape varieties Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, as well as learn the difference between a Merchant and Chateau wine.

Highly recommend! It was better than we anticipated. Excellent value for money. Lots of information and displays within the Museum. We spent quite a bit of time in the Museum reading and learning about Bordeaux and the wine industry. It was fantastic! Even although I don't drink alcohol. I was still included and provided with grape juice/non alcoholic tastings which were excellent. I was so impressed. Absolutely loved it. The staff are all lovely, knowledgeable and amazing!
Please stay away from this Place. If you are interested in wine culture please visit la "cite du vin "and do not spend Money on this Place. It Is embarassing. Very small with no clue no soul very superficial. I was surprised considering the importance of bordeaux. They have two options: close It or free entrance with a charge only for the wine tasting.
Out of the way but a really interesting and different museum. Tells the fascinating story of the whole area, which was the focal point for wines and other goods coming into Bordeaux. A couple of informative films, one in French and English, the other just French. Great personalised demo and teach-in at the end with a couple of glasses of local wine.
Delightful museum highlighting the Bordeaux region. Starting with the Celtic tribes, there is a through, but understandable, timeline covering people, places, techniques, and other aspects of the region’s development. Don’t miss this 1-1.5 hour self directed, audio supported tour.
The process was straight forward once onsite. We did a self-paced look through the museum, listened to a short presentation for the Bordeaux region, and participated in a wine tasting.
It was very informative regarding the history of wine. It is a self guided tour. My husband downloaded the audio and we followed the numbering.
A really interesting history which explains the importance of Bordeaux, the way the wine developed (storage, aging, bottling etc). The tasting was very informative and I feel I learnt something about the wine as well as enjoying it!
Very interesting exploration of wines in the city - learned a lot from this tour. Staff were very helpful and engaging and took delight in our enjoyment. Nice tasting afterwards. Merci!
This was included in the Bordeaux CityPass & I just turned up - no prior booking was required. The museum is effectively a couple of old cellars which are very well presented and takes you on a tour of wine production in Bordeaux through the ages. The wine tasting at the end involved a very good presentation on the wine region of Bordeaux and the tasting of two different wines. The shop includes many options of local wines along with other wine-based products. Definitely recommend! Very friendly wine expert giving the talk and leading the wine tasting.
I visited the Musée du Vin et du Négoce de Bordeaux and did the self-guided tour. The experience begins with downloading an audio/guide via a QR code, which walks you through each part of the museum at your own pace. It’s easy to follow and allows you to move through the space comfortably. The highlight for me was the cave itself — the underground cellar is very impressive, with a strong sense of history. The artifacts and explanations about Bordeaux’s wine trade and négociant system were interesting and gave good context to the region’s wine culture. The wine tasting at the end was okay. It’s important to note that it’s not a flight of wines — instead, you receive one glass of wine representing a region they’ve chosen to highlight. If you’re expecting multiple tastings, this may feel a bit limited. Overall, it’s a worthwhile stop if you’re interested in the history of Bordeaux wine and want to see a traditional cellar setting.
Staff were very helpful and knowledgeable, which was much appreciated. The museum offered a different perspective than the larger wine museum, La Cité du Vin further down the river. The 2 museums compliment each other very well, so perhaps both are worth visiting.
The Musee du Vin et du Negoce is small but definitely worth visiting - it offers a fascinating look into the history of Bordeaux wine and trade, with many historical objects and informative displays that bring the region's wine culture to life.
Toured this very small low-tech museum with my son. Provided an English guidebook to outline the wine industry. Old photos, maps, books, tools, and artifacts support the storyline. There were a few videos (cork and barrel industries). After the short self-guided tour, there was a brief wine tasting of two non-distinct wines. I remain very puzzled at the high rating for this museum, very dated in so many ways.
Was fantastic so informative and such good value for money. I really enjoyed every moment listening to the audio as I went around followed by wine tasting which I thought was absolutely amazing. They included in the price. Mathilde knew her wines and was fabulous
A very enjoyable visit to this small but informative and well presented museum, finished off by an equally informative and pleasant wine tasting.
Do not mistake with Cin de Vin We made this mistake. We were unable get a refund or date change. Cannot judge the venue. Disappointed with Viator.
An interesting traditional contrast to the very modern Cite du Vin. My wife was mesmerized by the film on barrel making and we both enjoyed the included wine tasting.
Excellent museum about wine and the wine trade. This is a small museum located in an old wine cave. The museum provides a booklet in English that is very helpful in understanding the exhibits and many of the longer signs were also in English. The exhibits cover such topics as the history and growth of the wine trade in Bordeaux (folks from many different countries were involved over the centuries), making corks, the different classifications of Bordeaux wines, and the machinery used in producing wines. It was very interesting! The tour ends with a tasting of two wines, neither of which were particularly impressive. (One of the wines was a claret that had not been aged – as they used to make it before the aging process was developed – and it had little taste or color.)
this was quite a ice find. very relaxed, good value, plenty of history of the Bordeaux region wine history with audio via phone or typed guide available also. the museum is not huge but takes about 30 mins to browse. the wine tasting was very good with lots to absorb o the various wines of the region. a nice gift shop with lots of reasonably priced good wines to bring home. highly recommended.
Super friendly staff, very knowledgeable, lost of interesting history to see, well decorated. The museum was small but a decent amount packed in. The tasting was cozy and fun and the guide was knowledgeable. Tickets were not too much so i would recommend a visit.
They did a great job explaining the history of the wine region beginnings in Bordeaux. The museum ticket included a wine tasting and overview of the different regions. That produce wine in Bordeaux. It was interesting to find out that there are restrictions to what kind of grapes go into the Bordeaux wines.
10/10 What an amazing experience and such good value for money. The staff were so helpful and happy to answer all the questions. English was amazing. For €10 you get wine tasting with a lesson about the vinyards and include chocolate rasins, cake, and two glasses of wine. You also get a guided tour around the museum. Learnt so much and definitely a must if only visiting for a short period of time.
The museum itself was quite small, but you can get a booklet of info and/or an audio guide. They spoke English and the wine tasting part was nice. A nice female employee gave a small presentation about the different regions of Bordeaux and what wine is produced where, then we were able to sample two wines. The student price was 5 euros, which was fine with me.
The wine cave was authentic and interesting, but I wouldn't waste my time looking at very old wine bottles and other things that are so full of dust you cannot appreciate them. There was a wine tasting at the end, but it was the worse presentation and wine that I tasted in France. Save your money and skip this one! I didn't have a reservation and walked right through.
It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. Although the wine cellar is quite small, it provides a thorough overview of the history of the wine. At the end, there was an informative presentation of the wine map of Bordeaux. I tasted two types of wine. I enjoyed it a lot.
The Bordeaux Wine and Trade Museum is set in an old cellar, which unfortunately had a strong musty and mouldy smell that made it difficult for me to fully enjoy the visit. That said, the wine tasting was absolutely divine. The staff provided excellent knowledge about the wines, which added great value to the experience and made it worthwhile despite the setting. If you’re in Bordeaux, I would also highly recommend visiting the Cité du Vin museum for a more polished and immersive wine experience.
We moved to Bordeaux 4 months ago and live 200 meters from this museum. We’ve walked by it dozens of times and thought the entrance was so unappealing that it wouldn’t be worth going in. We were wrong! This museum is a simple, straightforward and realistic representation of the history of Bordeaux and how intertwined wine is with the history of the city. We spent about an hour walking through the museum part of the experience, and about an hour for the wine tasting. I lived in San Francisco for 5 years and spent half my weekends in Napa Valley and Sonoma. I’ve seen my fair share of wineries and done too many wine tastings. This place is really different. Every step of the museum is well documented and contains an extraordinary amount of detail and artifacts that bring the history to life. The wine tasting wasn’t hurried at all. The young man that conducted our tasting (Edward) did an outstanding job of explaining the various differences of the wine producing regions around Bordeaux, and took as many questions as we offered. We are learning French, but he was perfectly capable of doing the tasting in English. We would definitely recommend this museum!
Very nice experience, good wine tasting experience with a fantastic person, a very good experience for us
Enjoyed our visit to the wine museum. Very helpful young man explained the necessary information to us before we explored the museum and cave. At the end we had a wine tasting talk and lesson from the lovely lady called Luna, she did an amazing presentation in English. A very nice visit using our city pass
Took a great tour out the wine country of Bordeaux and learned a lot about the region along the way! Definitely worth the price of admission.
The exhibit was intimate and the wine tasting experirence . The museum director was so nice during the tasting .
We went here after the main wine museum. It is much smaller and has a different focus. The best part for me was the wine tasting at the end of our visit. The host was informative and had good knowledge. We used the City Card which made the overall costs good.
Seems appropriate for a museum with this great story to be sited in a very dusty and authentic cellar though this is far from good museum practice. Has a great sense of place but the objects on display need some professional attention and display. The museum and interesting talk afterwards were well worth a visit.
I booked my 10€ ticket a couple of days in advance after having visited the Cité du Vin. This museum is situated in a charming street with a few typical bars and restaurants. The staff were super friendly in both English and French and answered all my difficult questions. You need about an hour for the tour and half an hour for the wine tasting. A real pilgrimage for wine lovers. Highly recommended !
The museum is located in the Charton area of Bordeaux with good public transportation by tram. The building was earlier used by wine merchants and the history of the area is actually quite interesting. Admission is EUR 10, holders of the Bordeaux City Pass EUR 5, and included is a tasting of two wines. It is a traditional museum with several historical exhibits and the tour is self guided. Texts are in French, but English texts are available at the desk. We visited around lunch time on a day with few visitors and the staff seemed rather uninspired. After our tour we wanted to do the tasting, but apparently no one were able to perform this, so we decided to leave without it which was a disappointment.
Good information, and loved being in the "cave"...we enjoyed the wine tasting and the history in the little museum.
Even though this museum is quite small I found the audio guide much better than the one in Le Cite Du Vin. The Wine tasting session was also much better than Le Cite Du Vin as it was explained quite well by the resident expert. Entry is covered by Bordeaux City Pass
We enjoyed this little museum immensely! Worth the trip. It's a self-guided tour through the cellar with interesting artifacts and information about the history and craftmanship of winemaking in Bordeaux. The staff also gave a very interesting tasting lesson. Highly recommend taking the hour or so to visit this museum.
Near hotel and gets good reviews so visited. €10 for self tour and taste of 2 wine €15 for 3 wines. We’ll set up and a great introduction to Bordeaux wine. Tasting very informative and 2 nice wines. Small shop selling large wi r range and accessories
Excellent Historical Review of the Bordeaux Wine Trade. The history information dated back over 500+ years ago. It was a self guided tour with the option of an audio guide with your smart phone or a printed book. You walk through at your own pace and it is easy to go forward or back with the audio version. The museum is located the historical building from the 12th century. Wine tasting was average but very pleasant lady who gave the presentation. Well worth the admission cost.
Three of us (as part of a group of ten) visited the Bordeaux Wine and Trade Museum. Mary Chantal Leboucq, who helped found the museum, provided us with a tour. Her commentary was educational, and her wonderful sense of humor made the experience entertaining as well. Mary has loved wine, wine making, and the wine business for a long time. She says her grandfather would claim that she had been born in a wine barrel. After walking through the exhibits, we were treated to an informative wine tasting – again with lots of humor. The tour ended in the museum’s gift shop, with its wines and many wine-related items.
Museum was interesting, wine tasting very non authentic and poorly explained and only average wine. Disappointing experience
This was such a great class. The person who ran it was very knowledgeable about the area and gave many suggestions of what to do in Bordeaux. She made the entire experience very memorable.
We read about this musuem on Trip Advisor and we are thrilled that we took the time to visit. We learned so much about Bordeaux wine. Then the pleasant ending is that we had a wine tasting and the museum associate did a wonderful job explaining the wine regions. She is terrific. If you are in the Bordeaux city, take a couple hours and visit this museum. Well worth it. The price is very reasonable.
Visited on a Sunday using our Bordeaux City Pass. This museum is situated in vaulted cellars, the tour was self guided but we were provided with losts of information including audio guide on phone. It took us through the whole history of wine in Bordeaux ,it is different from the Cite du Vin, which we also enjoyed,in that it is more intimate. At the end of the tour we had a tutored tasting with a small group of others, this was fun and interesting, after the tasting as we hadn't finished our tour we were able to stay on and finish this Staff were all friendly and helpful
Lovely small museum of not only this great area's wine but of the origins of wine trade. There many interesting tidbits. E.g. I loved the price list of the Russian Imperial Court's purveyor. Also, the old streets leading to the museum are lovely.
Get the inside story of Bordeaux wine, you will not be disapointed. Travel back in time via an underground cellar and all that occurred therein during the inception of the wonderful Bordeaux wine boom. Ticket includes two sample tastings with oral Q+A.
Surprised at the Museum, although small it is very interesting and informative. Wine tasting at the end.
Well worth the visit especially the wine tasting at the end! Self-guided but delightful staff available to answer questions.
