Didn't do a tour, went independently. We took a taxi to the Basilica then walked back down through the porticos. It took us an hour and 40 minutes to get down. Advise against walking up unless you're fit as it is uphill almost constantly. Interesting frescoes, great views, would recommend as it's so unusual. Save for a rainy day if you have one as it's all under cover. Loved Bologna!

The tour guide showed up late. There was no room for us on the trolley. We would have to wait 90 minutes in 95 deg heat for the next departure. Very stupid and unprofessional operation. This has become common on Viatour. Please refund our money.
Victoria was fantastic explaining details of bologna and its history. Very good. Very easy connection for beginning tour
The guide, Victoria, was excellent. She provided good descriptions of the area and the sanctuary. The sanctuary was very interesting and we were treated to beautiful singing by visiting priests.
Had a great time! The train is very Thomas the toy train.. cheesy but gets the job done. Much cheaper to book in person fyi than online
Amazing experience! Our guide Bernadette was very lovely and great at sharing information about Bologna! The tour was private which was a surprise to us but we thoroughly enjoyed the personal tour! Great information about San Luca and the porticoes! Only suggestion I would have is potentially to be able to choose whether to walk to the top of the hill and meet the guide there rather than taking the train! Overall great experience
Elena was a great tour guide. The site was beautiful, and the views of the city were gorgeous. She provided so really great insights into the history.
Wonderful experience. Train ride was unique! Our guide was very knowledgeable, and really nice to spend time with.
Wonderful private tour guide Elena; extremely knowledgeable and willing to give me time at places I was more interested in!
Here's what made this tour awesome: 1. Private: It was just my wife and I and our guide. 2. Our guide was fantastic. She was interesting, funny, incredibly knowledgeable and very accommodating (see below). 3. The ride on the train was fun. The windows are open so you can get fresh air and be able to see the view. 4. San Luca itself is an incredible church. The view is spectacular. The church is very unusual and unique in its exterior appearance. The interior is beautiful and opulent. 5. My one complaint is you don't get to stay at San Luca for very long (about 20 mins). However, our guide graciously offered to spend more time with us at San Luca and to catch the next train down. For a modest fee ($5 per person), we were allowed to climb the stairs all the way to the top of San Luca. It was WELL worth it. The view was incredible. We were the only people up there, so we got to really enjoy the view. Would definitely recommend this tour!
A good way to see San Luca after a week of walking! Worth a visit but was a shame there was a mass going on when we visited. Felt guilty going into the church to be honest. Our guide and many others did not see it as an issue. The church in the main square was very interesting too.
We took on Jan 6 the feast of the epiphany. It was very festive as a holiday. Nice simple activity, though with haze not such great views
Characteristic but tiring the climb on foot to the Basilica of San Luca that starts at the bottom of Via Saragozza to reach the top with a route of about 5 km all under the characteristic arcades (we counted 640 arches) with uphill stretches of which the last step piece... Many people of various nationalities will keep you company in this path that never seems to end but that you can do sitting from time to time admiring the fantastic frescoes restored in the chapels scattered along the way... At the end you will be rewarded by the beauty and majesty of the basilica... Absolutely to do...
You can reach the Basilica by car, by train from the center of Bologna or on foot. We left on foot from Zaragoza (we parked near the cemetery, before Dallara) and reached the basilica along all the arcades. The day was uncertain and the porches protected us from the rain (in the case of extreme heat they also protect us from the sun). Stairs are done without problems but if you are not physically prepared they require a little effort. During the journey you have a view of the whole city and with the sun you can enjoy a beautiful panorama. Arrived at the top we visited the Basilica (free admission). You pay the ticket only if you decide to climb the dome.
After a journey of 5 km and 660 porticoes, you arrive at the basilica, the landscape is very beautiful, the pilgrims who arrive are many. You can visit the tower, I recommend doing it is very interesting. The basilica is beautiful.
We started the route from the Dall'Ara stadium, climbing through the magnetic arcades to the top for on the dome of the sanctuary of San Luca, from where you can admire the 360-degree panorama. More beautiful is the ascent through these enchanting arcades of the church itself, but the climb brings with it something fascinating that is worth seeing.
A beautiful trip and a prepared and attentive guide. He told everything in detail and accompanied us in the descent on foot (not planned) from the Basilica of San Luca... made us discover a part of Bologna unpublished!
I recommend the train tour to visit the Basilica of San Luca and enjoy the view of the Bolognese hills during the trip. The basilica is wonderful. An unmissable stop in the city tour.
Beautiful games of color along the arcades that from the Dall'Ara stadium go up to San Luca. The duration of the walking route is 30-40 minutes, all completely under the arcades pleasant and fascinating route, although it is a non-stop climb or interruption.
Those who like architecture will babble with the city (medieval part) with its 40km of pavements covered in arches, which end up on top of a hill in the basilica of San Jorge... Spectacle.
We did the whole route under the arcades from Piazza Maggiore city center to the Basilica of San Luca on foot (and in high heat). It was definitely worth it - the arcades are both shady and very interesting. The final climb to the basilica already requires some fitness and is only recommended to people who have appropriate physical requirements.
La guida era molto professionale preparata e gentile abbiamo conosciuto informazioni davvero interessanti. Tante curiosità! Consigliamo vivamente questa esperienza!
We went on the classic children's train that leaves in front of the Basilica of S. Petronio. Furthermore, with a total of 12 euros per person (return), the route includes a real city tour, up to San Luca. Generally it leaves every half hour. With the atrocious heat of July (it was 42 degrees...) we strongly recommend using it for the climb and avoiding the slog on foot. On the hill you can enjoy an excellent view and fresh air. I expected something more than the religious building. Of course, it is an interesting stage from the point of view of faith, but artistically it didn't excite me at all. Outside, however, it is rather "let go", except for the beautiful flowerbeds. In any case, it is an obligatory stop if you happen to be in the city.
It seemed like an endless road, but once you got to the top the view was magnificent... to do sports is the ideal way to go even with bad days and rain. If you are a real tourist, forget about the train that takes you to the top and walk the road, I recommend with comfortable shoes and a lot of breath.
You cross the arcades of Bologna and you find yourself catapulted into a very spiritual place maybe too much, you feel a consistent presence from the other looking at you and judging , this influences a lot the experience of playing making it all a bit too much weight. To finish Lugo of a particular beauty and gives peace and tranquility apart from the too much sun you need umbrellas or an anti-sun dome that would make everything much more pleasant
