We had an amazing time. We felt as if all 3 places we went wasn’t really a tour but you watching them do their craft. We were so excited the day we saw the ham being checked with the horse bone for quality & being branded for authenticity. The cheese tour was cool to see the whole process & balsamic tour to see the owner and eat his families recipes for lunch. The tour guide was incredible, so friendly and knowledgeable. Did not feel like a canned tour but authentic for seeing some of the main crafts Italy is know for. You will not be disappointed and worth every penny.

Itinerary
For this gourmet tour with private transportation we leave very early in the morning to go to a Parmigiano dairy in Modena where we have the precious opportunity of seeing how they make the cheese, from the arrival of milk to the making of the big wheels. We will also visit their storage and will have a tasting.
Visit a balsamic vinegar site (under the roof), learn how the families make it in the barrels for 25 years and have some tastings to understand the astonishing difference with the industrial one. Here we will have a hearty and generous lunch, during which we can use balsamic vinegar on every dish. We will end with some liquor
Visit a Modena ham producer, where we will see the complete process that a pork leg undergoes from its arrival through all the various stages of maturation, then we have a tasting. Don't forget to bring a jacket with you because inside it's really cold

We had a fabulous day. The tour & the tastings were fantastic. We got an insight into the production & storage / aging of Parmigiano reggiano, Balsamic & Prosciutto from Modena. The tour was very informative, interesting & we also enjoyed the company of the small group we were with. This is an absolute must do if you are in Bologna. Ilaria also picked us up & dropped us off at the same location which was super convenient. We highly recommend ilaria & this experience.
A great experience visiting some producers in Modena with Ilaria a great host. Not to much traveling involved
The tour guide was very informative and we learned a lot about each stop. The food and samples were very good as was the lunch.
Great experience if you are interested in learning about Parmesan Reggiona Balsamic Vinegar and prosciutto Ilaria is extremely knowledgeable and a wonderful fun guide
Great experience. Highly recommend this tour. Our guide was very knowledgeable and provided an experience better than expected.
The best tour of the trip! Amazing food, history, and overall experience. The guide was very knowledgeable and friendly.
I highly recommend this tour! Ilaria was a wonderful guide! All three visits were unique, interesting, and had samples of their delicious, artisanal food. It was a great pleasure to spend the day!
My wife, adult daughter and I had a private tour, driven and guided by Ilaria. She picked us up at our hotel and took us first to a Parmigiano factory that was about a hour away. We donned protective gowns and went right on the factory floor. Ilaria took us step by step through the entire cheese making process. We moved at our own pace, without any time pressure. Then, we had a taste of this cheese at various ages. We left the cheese factory and drove 40 minutes to a private villa that also produced Balsamic vinegar. We were greeted with wine/coffee and then led upstairs to the Balsamic aging room. Every step of the process was explained by staff. Then we went downstairs to a dining room for a wonderful lunch. We were greeted by the owner, who described what we would be having and offered the recipe. Our final stop was at a Prosciutto factory. Once again, Ilaria led us through the factory’s floors and explained everything. We stood about four feet from a worker putting lard on hams by hand to seal them. This tour was a fantastic experience! Everything we experienced was genuine; not a put-on show for tourists. It turned out that Ilaria owned this particular tour company and it’s called “Bologna Gourmet.” We are “foodies” and believe this tour company’s name says it all. I very highly recommend this tour, which was worth every penny!
Our day spent with Ilaria left us with many special memories of Bologna’s prosciutto, Parmesan, and balsamic vinegar highly regarded production process. Everywhere we stopped, the estate and factory owners /managers welcomed us with personable hospitality. Ilaria made great effort to also explain life in the countryside as our tour moved. It was a great day and highly recommend.
This is a day full of variety and learning, with the extra bonus of delicious food. Our guide gave us interesting background information on Bologna's history and culture and was very knowledgeable about the foods that are particular to this part of Italy.
Ilaria, our guide and driver was excellent. She is knowledgeable with a deep knowledge of the regions around Bologna. We were picked up by Hotel Touring. The parmigiana experience at a local farm was excellent. Wish we could get there early enough to see the renin added to the milk. Tasting of aged parmigiana was very good. The balsamic vineyard experience was eye opening. The lunch with the pairing with charcuterie and then risotto was very good. So we decided to to buy aged balsamic. After a food coma, we visited a prosciutto aging plant. Never seen so many legs of ham hanging to be cured. I would do it again with friends.
We had a wonderful time with Ilaria, enjoying learning about the history of the region as we drove to the various parmigiano, prosciutto and balsamic locations. Ilaria took time to explain the processes at each location, ensuring we had lots of time for tastings. We highly recommend a tour with Ilaria, we have very fond memories of our tour and our time together, including the wonderful recipe she shared with us!
This is a wonderful tour of how the best food in Italy (imho best in the world) is made. You have the chance to tour a creamery making Parmesan and ricotta, a farm that produces balsamic vinegar, and a meat processing plant where they are making prosciutto. The guide is extremely knowledgeable about the local food, and the area around Bologna. Included is the opportunity to try and purchase, cheese, vinegar, and prosciutto. Unfortunately we were not able to bring the prosciutto back to the United States, but we did bring back excellent Parmesan and balsamic vinegar. Lunch is included, and you get to have an excellent home cooked meal in an old farmhouse. The food is excellent and the vinegar the best I have ever had. We also got to meet and talk with the owner of the farmhouse during lunch. (The farmhouse also had a cool old Lamborghini tractor out front.) All of the people we talked with were passionate and clearly loved the food they make. If you like Italian food and want to know how it is made, this tour is well worth the time and money.
My husband and I recently took a food tour with Ilaria ! What a great day! It was exactly as described and more! Ilaria is so personable and knowledgeable! We visited three different locations each was an intimate setting with engaging real working interactions! We were offered samples and a substantial, delicious lunch! We highly recommend any tour offered! As soon as you meet Ilaria it is obvious how much she loves her country what she does!
We had an amazing experience with Bologna Gourmet! Our guide, Ilaria, was warm, knowledgeable, and passionate about sharing the region’s food culture. We began with a fascinating visit to a Parmigiano Reggiano producer, gaining a new appreciation for this iconic cheese. Next, we visited a beautiful villa in Modena, where we learned about traditional balsamic vinegar production on a family estate. The tasting, followed by a delicious lunch, was unforgettable. We ended the day with a tour of Bologna and its lively food market. A perfect day of food, culture, and history—highly recommend Ilaria and Bologna Gourmet!
Ilaria was very knowledgeable and added good insights prior to getting to the different venues. She also quickly put all 3 of us at ease. It was great to see and finally understand why these products are so pricey back home and more importantly to experience and appreciate the pride & craftsmanship behind the products.
I was very excited to go on this tour and it exceeded all my expectation. Our guide was very knowledgeable and enthusiastic and very passionate with what she was telling and showing us. It was amazing.
Our recent tour of the Parma region, which included guided visits to the renowned Parmesan cheese factories, traditional balsamic vinegar producers, and Prosciutto di Parma cellars, was nothing short of extraordinary. It was a culinary adventure that surpassed all expectations, leaving us with unforgettable memories and a deeper appreciation for the artistry behind Italy's most famous gastronomic delights. From the moment we arrived, it was evident that this was going to be a different kind of tour—one that didn’t merely scratch the surface but immersed us fully into the culture, history, and craftsmanship of this unique region. Our guide, a consummate professional, knew her stuff inside and out. Her enthusiasm was infectious, and her knowledge of the region’s history, production techniques, and local stories added layers of richness to every experience. It’s rare to encounter someone so passionate and well-informed, and she truly made the entire journey special. Our first stop was the Parmesan cheese factory. Watching the aging process unfold before our eyes was nothing short of fascinating. The guide explained the intricate steps of cheese production, from the curdling to the aging in special cellars, with a level of detail that made it all come alive. We learned about the sacred tradition that has been passed down for centuries, and tasting the freshly grated cheese was a moment of pure delight—abundantly flavorful, creamy, and fresh. What struck me most was the pride and care that the cheese makers put into their craft, carefully monitoring each wheel’s progress as if it were a living thing. Next was the balsamic vinegar tour, which took us into families' cellars that have been producing this treasured condiment for generations. The aroma of aging balsamic was intoxicating, and the knowledge our guide shared about the difference between traditional balsamic (Aceto Bisto Tradizionale) and the commercial varieties was enlightening. Watching the barrels, some hundreds of years old, was like stepping back in time—each one’s unique ingredients and aging process creating a flavor profile unlike anything I’ve ever experienced. The family owners took time to explain the meticulous process, including the blending and tasting, emphasizing the importance of patience and tradition. Tasting the various ages of balsamic, from the young to the centuries-old, was a highlight. The depth of flavor and complexity was astonishing, and I could see why this is a priceless treasure of Italy. The Prosciutto di Parma cellar visit was equally memorable. Walking through the aged halls, we met artisans who have dedicated their lives to curing this iconic ham. Our guide explained the curing process—a precise balance of time, salt, air, and patience. We watched the hams hanging silently, ripening in perfect conditions, and learned about the strict regulations that ensure the quality and authenticity. Tasting a selection of prosciutto, each slice delivered a melt-in-your-mouth richness, salty yet delicate with subtle hints of nutty flavor. The pride in their craft was palpable, and it was inspiring to witness the respect these artisans hold for their tradition. Throughout the entire journey, our guide’s expertise was evident. She had a wealth of knowledge about each product, the history behind it, the cultural significance, and the nuances that make each one so unique. Her storytelling brought to life the stories behind every farm, cellar, and cheese wheel. She answered every question with patience and depth, never rushing and always enthusiastic. Her warmth and genuine passion made us feel like we were visiting old friends rather than just participating in a tour. What made this experience even more precious was sharing it with my adult son. We are both passionate food lovers, and this journey gave us a rare opportunity to bond over our shared fascination with culinary arts and Italian tradition. Walking through the cellars, sampling the products, and listening to our guide’s stories created a sense of connection that will stay with us forever. It was a multi-sensory experience—each smell, taste, and sight adding to a collective memory that I will cherish for a lifetime. The visit to Bologna added an extra layer to this adventure. The city’s historic streets, vibrant markets, and delicious culinary offerings made the entire day perfect. We wandered through Piazza Maggiore, marveled at the medieval architecture, and enjoyed authentic tortellini and tagliatelle in cozy trattorias. The overall atmosphere of Bologna heightened our appreciation for Italy’s rich culture and culinary history. In conclusion, this tour was everything we hoped for and more. The organization was flawless, the locations authentic, and the experience enriching. But what truly elevated it was our guide—the expert, passionate, warm-hearted woman who shared her knowledge and love for her heritage. Her storytelling and attention made us feel welcomed and excited at every turn. Sharing this experience with my son has created lifelong memories, deepened our bond, and enriched our understanding of Italian traditions. It’s rare to find a journey that touches the soul while also indulging the senses, and this tour did exactly that.
An anniversary trip for my wife and I, we decided to go with this tour of our favorite food. We loved everything about it. The King of cheese, Balsamic and Prosciutto were all great. We learned about how it’s made with perfection and how it is still produced by family businesses like ours in the USA. Our guide was the best! Thank you!!
Truly a memorable unique experience. Our tour guide immediately felt like an old friend and personalized the day for us.
Nice day trip, we would have liked to see the balsamic tour more extensively. Now this was only the old original hall in the villa where the explanation was given. We also missed a tour 'on the field', the vineyard, and the new effective spaces where the entire process also takes place
Great day, very welcoming guide, who explains things well, just let yourself be carried away... to really understand the region, you have to taste the Parmigiano, the vinegar, and the ham from Modena...
Our day with Ilaria was quite sensational. She developed a network of privileged contacts to help us discover places we didn’t know existed. She has a rarely seen knowledge and passion for guiding. Book without fear, and let her guide you. You won't regret it.
