This tour was one of the highlights of our honeymoon. Absolutely loved the food, the venues, and of course our guide Ela. She was so kind and knowledgable, with lots of recommendations as well. We will be definitely recommending this tour to any of our friends visiting the area

Itinerary
Piazza Maggiore, the heart of Bologna since 1200, is surrounded by historic landmarks like the Basilica of San Petronio and the Neptune Fountain. Once a hub for trade and civic life, it remains the city's main gathering place.
We'll visit a traditional delicatessen, a local institution known for its top-quality cured meats, where you'll try different types of Parmigiano Reggiano cheese with Balsamic Vinegar.
Nearby, we’ll see skilled ladies, the 'sfogline', making pasta by hand, and you'll also try it yourself! Note: this stop is only included in morning tours.
Step inside a historic Bolognese deli rooted in family tradition and craftsmanship. Discover high-quality local products and enjoy a tasting of classic mortadella paired with homemade local focaccia.
Mercato di Mezzo has been a hub of flavors and trade since medieval times. Transformed into Bologna’s first covered market after Italian unification, it was revitalized in 2014 and now offers local food and wine specialties.
One of Bologna’s oldest bakeries, family-run since the late 19th century and still preserving its original charm. Discover a long tradition of artisanal baking and enjoy a tasting of their classic rice cake, a beloved local specialty.
The Two Towers are iconic symbols of Bologna, marking the ancient Via Emilia’s entrance. Built in the 12th century, they reflect Bologna’s past power and prestige, with one offering panoramic views and the other famed for its dramatic tilt.
At a neighborhood pillar for three decades, we'll taste true local flavors. Savor a tasting of rich Friggione and traditional tigella (or crescentina) topped with delicate prosciutto, along with Lambrusco wine.
Soak in the rich past of Centro Storico, from papal births to student confraternities, and from ancient frescos to the lively spirit of Bologna. Enjoy a tasting of tagliatelle with Bolognese sauce, tortelloni in sage and butter, with Pignoletto wine and finish with an espresso and a chocolate tortellino.
Visit the 600-year-old traditional Bolognese tavern, the oldest in the city. Enjoy a relaxing drink while experiencing the social heart of Bologna Note: this stop is only included in afternoon tours.
Since the 18th century, this area of Bologna has become a cultural hub, with the University of Bologna moving its Dean's offices to Palazzo Poggi in 1803. Today, it's the city's student district, blending historic buildings with contemporary street art and graffiti.

It was delightful! Our tour guide was very knowledgeable - she showed us several sights in between food stops and made sure everyone was having a great time. Each stop was unique and the hospitality was wonderful.
An absolute must-do in Bologna! Our guide, Ela, was very knowledgeable and passionate about regional specialties and wine. The small group tour was perfectly organized with generous, delicious tastings at every stop. Thank you, Ela, for an unforgettable morning!
Ela was amazing. Made the tour fun and entertaining. Thank you!!! Would definitely recommend to a friend.
Ela was lovely and very knowledgeable. We learned a lot about local produce. Food was delicious. Our small group of 6 was a great size. Vegetarian options (mostly just swapping out meat for cheese) but meat eaters were the winners of the day.
Ela was a great guide! We learned lots and tasted many foods. Five stops and I was full after four! Wonderful!
While visiting Florence with my family, we took a Food/Wine Tour of Bologna, a nearby town. It was an excellent tour and well worth the money. Our tour guide, Ella, was very knowledgeable about the subject matter. She not only spoke to us, but also showed us visuals in a looseleaf she brought with her. Her English was excellent and she was very understandable. Ella was personable and patient. She wasn't in a hurry to be finished. You could see that she truly enjoyed what she was doing. She was nice to us and the restaurant personnel as well. The waiters and waitresses all seemed to know and like her because she was kind and respectful of them. The choices of restaurants was very good, and we enjoyed all of our samplings. We will definitely use Eating Europe for another food/wine tour.
Fantastic afternoon wandering around Bologna experiencing some fantastic food and drink while learning about the history of the city and region. We visited places we definitely wouldn’t have found and a surprising venue we wouldn’t would have walked passed if we hadn’t been taken to! It’s not a long walk so don’t be put off, everything is in a fairly small area which was great.
Very well done. Food was excellent. Service at each stop was great. Our guide, Elena, was exceptional. Highly recommend.
fantastic tour with in depth history of the food of Bologna, we had a 7 yr old and 10 yr old and they loved the different food, they had water and soft drink for the kids instead of wine. Elana was a great guide and spoke fantastic English. i would highly recommended
Ela is the best! The best tour of our week in Italy.
We had a wonderful time with our guide Ela! We learned not only about the history of Bologna but also the history of the food she had us try. We definitely had the best Mortadella sandwich of our lives! Along with pasta tastings, prosciutto, parmesan and balsamic tastings. Finished with a great local dessert. The wines paired for the food tastings were perfect! We really enjoyed our tour and highly recommend it!

Our tour guide Ela was amazing: charming and full of information. We loved learning about the history, food and culture of Bologna and got some great tips on perfecting ragu Bolognese as well. We’ve done multiple Eating Europe tours in various cities and find it’s the best introduction to a new city to get a real feel for the place and culture.
This tour provides great insights into the food culture of Bologna. It was a great balance of informative stops with food or experiences and walking through interesting market streets hearing stories and information as we went. I would recommend this tour to anyone with an interest in Italian food and culture.

Fantastic experience and Elena was great.
We had an amazing private food and wine tour with Isadora today! First recommendation- go hungry! Second, go with an adventurous spirit. We ate so many different things today that were all typical of Bologna. The food, the shops, and the stories that Isadora told combined to give us a well rounded sense of the true Bologna that I’m sure we would not have discovered if we lived there for a decade. Isadora is wonderful and made the tour totally enjoyable! Grazie Isadora! Highly recommend!
Ella was a fantastic guide! Very knowledgeable on the history of the area and the origins of all the food. Great experience.
Really wonderful, thank you!

The tour was well worth the cost, as we received a lot of food and learned about the importance of these foods to the culture of Bologna. The tour was three hours but I felt like it could have been even longer! We just loved the passion and experience that Ela brought to our tour group and had a wonderful time.
