This was a great way to see the city. As it was a guided tour on an app I could do it at my own pace over two days. I would often stop for a bite to eat or to explore an area. The stories and fun facts really brought it all to life. Also, I discovered parts of the city that I would never have found myself.

Piazza Maggiore, located in the heart of Bologna, is a historic square steeped in centuries of Italian culture and tradition. Surrounded by elegant buildings and adorned with iconic landmarks such as the Fountain of Neptune, it serves as the city's vibrant center. The piazza is a hub of activity, hosting lively events, bustling markets, and cultural festivals throughout the year. Visitors can marvel at the grandeur of Palazzo Comunale or explore the intricate details of the Basilica of San Petronio, both of which overlook the square. With its charming cafes and picturesque surroundings, Piazza Maggiore invites locals and tourists alike to gather, relax, and soak in the timeless beauty of Bologna.
The Basilica of San Petronio stands as a majestic symbol of faith and architectural splendor in the heart of Bologna, Italy. Named after the city's patron saint, Saint Petronius, this grandiose church is one of the largest in the world, with a facade that showcases a harmonious blend of Gothic and Renaissance styles. Inside, visitors are captivated by the awe-inspiring interior, adorned with magnificent frescoes, intricate sculptures, and stunning stained glass windows. The basilica holds significant historical and cultural importance, housing remarkable works of art and serving as a site for solemn religious ceremonies and musical performances. With its towering presence and rich heritage, the Basilica di San Petronio remains a cherished landmark that continues to inspire reverence and admiration.
The two towers are commonly recognized as symbols of Bologna and are located in the heart of the city at the point where the ancient Via Emilia (Aemilian Way) entered the city. They were built during the Middle Ages and had a military function (signalling and defence) as well as representing, with their grandeur, the social prestige of the family that had them built.
The Palazzo del Podesta, situated in the heart of Bologna, Italy, is a striking architectural masterpiece steeped in centuries of history. Built in the 13th century, this imposing palace served as the seat of political power in Bologna during the Middle Ages, housing the office of the Podesta, the highest magistrate of the city. Its imposing facade, adorned with ornate decorations and elegant arches, reflects the influence and authority of the ruling class at the time. Today, the Palazzo del Podesta stands as a testament to Bologna's medieval past, offering visitors a glimpse into the city's rich heritage through its impressive architecture and historical significance.

Unable to have partner share the experience no one on site to help figure it out very disappointed . Also difficult to navigate how to arrive to the different sites.
Very good audio tour when we worked out how it worked. It was good as the information appeared as you approached the points of interest.
Absolutely a great self guided tour. Highly recommend. The value exceeds expectations. We particularly enjoyed being on our own and not being part of the throngs of guided tours. We liked going at our own pace to enjoy what was interesting to us.
Informative fun at your own pace and it led us places we would otherwise have missed. And the narration was pleasant to listen to.
It helped us plan our first day in Bologna and see the main sights and also a lot of places and things which we would have missed if we had not had this 'tour'. The only downside was is it expired after two days of being activated and I thought it was valid for 5 or 7 days. Also, the first day the recommended route did not appear so we made up our own route which was fine. The second day I logged in the suggested route appeared. We went to Venice and I tried to find the same but unfortunately couldn't either wise I would have used the City AppTour app again.
The self tour is well done and it includes historical site information and practical info on place to eat and check out.
The walking tour app worked well getting me to the sights, but once there was no narration. And of course I was guided to the most popular attractions so found myself walking from a quiet street into a mob of tourists all at the same attraction. I abandoned the tour after a few more tourist mobs and explored happily on my own.
Completely unusable. Despite paying and getting code sent, I was unable to enter the code in the app. Went round in circles, never reaching a page where it asked for the code. I have asked for a refund, but no response.
First time trying the audio tour and it was great to spend time at different landmarks at our own pace, and even stopped over at nearby places along the route. We made sure to get the e-Sim with 3 GB data plan on our phone and fully charged bluetooth earbuds. This gave us a good hearing on the city to explore on our own later. Hope Viator offers similar self tours in other cities.
Used Viator for the first time and smoothly uploaded tha app and started. All easy to install and very practical guide. Great stops with interesting stories. We would never have found by ourselves. Will use this App again in future.
Fabulous value for money/ we did it at our own pace stopping for an aperol along the way. Good context and told you the secrets of this fabulous city. Will be looking for something similar for our next stops!
If you want to experience Bologna in one day, use this app. Great stories, interesting information. When I was llooking at a sculpture by Michelangelo and Mozart started playing on the background it brought a tear to my eye...
She's fantastic. Explanations jump automatically when you approach the site they will explain. It allows you to get to know the city very completely and at your own pace.
Excellent experience. The audio guide is activated, during the route indicated by the map, at each point of interest marked with a flag. Very good explanation.
We found the content very loose, a lot of audios were no longer than 30 seconds. In others there were minutes of music... We learned something and in the end, following the tour, you get an idea, but I do not recommend it.
Great audio guide! Perfect to discover the city at my own pace. I think I wasn’t the only one using it, because I always met the same people along the way — we could almost have formed a small group without knowing it!
It wasn't easy, the instructions were poor. I finally listened to it in bed at night. But explained very well.
All very nice. Only on the way to the teatro anatomico and the university was missing whether it was close to the planned away.
Just great, you learn a lot about the city (without any stress). We would never have gone into some houses without the information... an all-round successful city tour
Dutch language was easy to understand, navigating the app worked fine, engaging information. Gives walking through the city a nice touch and you come on Places you would have missed otherwise.
We bought this audio guide but did not get access to audio and are now charged for payment. Along the way we complained to Tripadvisor about the lack of delivery but got no answer. Trying to call CityApp but no one answered.
In the beginning a bit confused with switching, but then good to follow. Even goes with earplugs. if you go completely out, it dials up completely by itself when clicked. Very good.
Installation not very easy or intuitive. It has to be evaluated to make it simpler. Good quality text
Perfect, sufficiently exhaustive explanations and right timing you will not get bored. The audio guide is very easy to use
We thought it was a nice walk. There were fun facts to the explanation. We had some trouble with the startup and we had to get used to how it worked, the fellow user did not have access immediately, but the host responded quite quickly and came up with a good solution, The internet was not sufficient everywhere, but the host can not do anything about it. All in all highly recommended!!
Assolutamente consigliata
Have been able to take a lot of beautiful pictures and enjoyed a very nice city. The tour was very easy to follow and also good to listen to.
Absolute Recommendation, extremely informative and you can set your own pace and don't have to push yourself through the opponents in huge groups.
My experience with the audio tour of CityAppTour in Bologna was nothing short of fantastic! This app offers a unique way to explore the city. What I particularly appreciated was that the tour not only shared historical facts, but also captivating anecdotes and backstories that brought the city to life.
Beautiful walking route along the different faces of this city. Without the information of the route we certainly would not have seen the city in all its splendor. Good app.
The audio tour was great. I started in the morning and really took my time. In between, I had lunch and finished the day in the culinary district. I learned a lot, really recommended!
A perfect way to get to know this beautiful city in one day. Nice stories, nice route. Easy operation!
This was a really good audio guide. Beautiful route and fascinating stories. If you take your time and stop occasionally for a coffee or an Aperol, it will take half a day. It is absolutely worth it!
Very nice app to get to know Bologna in a day. Nice route along all major sights. Interesting and fun stories. Recommended!
Il percorso è meraviglioso! Molto consigliato!
