We had a wonderful time on our food tour. Because of the time of year we had a group of 6; smaller than normal and the perfect size. By the end we were stuffed! Each restaurant was prepared for us and we learned a lot about Bologna and the food. Our kids said it was the best tour we took during our two week long Italy trip. We booked it on our third day and last day in Bologna and wish we had taken the tour earlier in the time we had there. Our guide was very helpful and suggested a number of restaurants that unfortunately we didn't have time to visit.

Itinerary
We always choose the best dishes, aiming to introduce you to our traditions, suggest the best restaurants and make you live the best culinary experience ever. With Do Eat Better you can make your visit to Bologna an unforgettable experience of eating Italy's best preparations. Here, you'll meet your local expert, who will guide you through this experience.
The tour begins with a tasting of fresh handmade pasta, such as tagliatelle al ragù alla Bolognese, finished with locally produced Parmesan cheese. This iconic dish is one of Bologna’s most beloved culinary symbols. Lighter and more versatile than lasagna, it offers a perfect introduction to the city’s cuisine while leaving room for the tastings to come. Alternatively, you may be served traditional tortellini in broth, prepared according to time-honored local tradition and just as emblematic of Bologna’s gastronomic heritage.
To then try out either locally made and fresh tigelle - hands down the most requested and loved food in Emilia-Romagna region and in Bologna it is topped with delicious local ingredients. Or try out the true Bolognese Mortadella in a cone or on a platter! The quintessential Bologna salami.
As a second dish, you'll experience Cotoletta alla Bolognese. A veal meat served with a rich sauce made with cream and parmesan cheese and topped with smoked ham. The traditional recipe requires that the meat is fried, then served in meat broth. Finally, it is briefly baked in the oven and served covered in melted cheese and ham.
For dessert we'll try the best artisanal Italian ice cream in Bologna with delicious flavours or alternatively Torta degli Addobbi: a rice cake with very ancient origins; it was prepared in Bologna, already around 1400, on the occasion of Corpus Domini, the end of May; a time when balconies and windows were festively decorated with coloured drapes and this cake cut into diamond shapes was offered to relatives and friends!
No Italian meal would be truly satisfying without a proper finale. To end our tour on a high note, we’ll enjoy a perfectly brewed espresso in a local coffee shop, savoring its rich aroma and robust flavor, the quintessential way to close any Italian culinary experience.

The experience wasn't quite what we expected. It was a very chaotic day. Other people were late to the meeting spot- which is not the fault of the tour guide. I didn't think the cost met the expectations. I thought we'd be sitting down and having more of an authentic Italian experience of food paired with good wine. Instead we went to different restauarants and had some of their food and their house wine. In hindsight we could have gone to two different restaurants and ordered gelato on our own and had a better experience. We couldn't hear the guid over all the loud noise in the restaurant when she was trying to tell us about Italian Food. It was just okay.
Eugenio was excellent! Very knowledgeable
Excellent tour guide. Very passionate about his city and country. Must do tour of your in Bologna.
Eugenio was a delightful guide and was very knowledgeable about the foods that are iconic to the area. Well worth the cost and we were full at the conclusion.
Great variaty of the best foods from Bologna. Eugenio was a nice guy with a lot of knowledge.
Fantastic, informative tour with our charming and engaging guide, Eugenico. He gave us an insight into the food and history of Bologna and how food is intrinsic to its culture. There was so much food to sample, along with local wines. Eugenico kept a relaxed pace and we all had a thoroughly enjoyable evening. Go hungry!
Eugenio was amazing. Beyond showing us several local food spots, he also talked about some of Bologna's culinary history. History and food in one tour!!!
Excellent tour with Eugenio! He was a charming and informative guide and the food he chose for us was delicious. Do not eat beforehand. Highly recommended.
This was a great experience. We had great food but also learned the origin of dishes like ragu. Our guide was excellent and gave us information about the neighbourhoods we passed through as well.
Francesca was a great host. We tasted very different offerings at 4 different places. Well paced and great to learn local history along the way too.
A wonderful tour filled with delicious food, lots of interesting info and plenty of laughter. Francesca was the best guide... super knowledgeable and so charming. Come hungry!
We had a great experience with Franchesca. Every meal we had was amazing. So much food and we had the best ending with gelato and coffee.
Francesca was absolutely amazing! We had such a wonderful time exploring Bologna on her food tour. Every stop was fantastic, and her knowledge of the city’s history, local cuisine, and the stories behind each restaurant made the experience even more special. Her passion and attention to detail truly stood out! We enjoyed every moment and would highly recommend this tour with Francesca to anyone visiting Bologna! 🇮🇹❤️
Francesca was absolutely amazing!! Lots of fun and very knowledgeable. We truly had a great time with her
This was a really enjoyable way to explore Bologna, combining a walking tour of the city with plenty of excellent food along the way. Our guide, Valentina, took us to four different places, telling us interesting stories and facts about Bologna as we walked between them. At the first stop we had tagliatelle with ragu and learned about the local ingredients and why certain ones are used. We then visited a specialist sandwich shop serving a traditional Bolognese speciality, followed by a restaurant where we had fried pork fillet topped with cheese. We finished at a gelato shop, where we got to sample some proper Italian gelato. The food was very good throughout, but what really made the tour was Valentina. She was incredibly knowledgeable, personable and easy to talk to, which made the whole experience feel more like being shown around by someone who genuinely loves Bologna than simply being taken from one food stop to another. A great combination of sightseeing, local history and, most importantly, eating! 8.5/10.
We had Eugenio, and he was great. Very passionate about the cuisine, and brought a slide deck with food descriptions and suggestions for our next stops in Bologna! Definitely recommend!!
Francesca was amazing! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Amazing food stops and shared a lot of fun facts about the history of Bologna. She made our short stop in Bologna very memorable!
Francesca was amazing! The food and the tour were absolutely lovely.
Eugenio was extremely knowledgable about the food and its history and Bologna and was very passionate. I would highly recommend!
It was a great experience. Valentino our guide was very knowledgeable and gave us aonkuxhbinformatiok on the history and food of Bologna.
We have been on many food tours in different countries. This tour was not as advertiised. The tour lasted an hour less than the advertised 3.5hrs. Most of the time we didnt know the guide was speaking. She did not speak in the direction of the group and was a low talker. What we did hear, there was not much shared about the food and culture. We were told that we should have selected the beverage option to have alcoholic drinks included but others corroborated there was no beverage option to select. Posted itinerary did not match actual itinerary. Not recommended for the cost
Eugeonio M. Very good! English was very good .! I I can tell he passionate food in Bologna! Food delicious!
Absolutely great. Highly recommend.
Eugenio was amazing, very informative and of course all the food was amazing!
Did a great job, food was excellent. Locations were great in the pace of the experience was perfect. Would do it with this tour guide again anytime. Bugenio!
We learned so much about the local culture and food. Our guide Eugenio Marchetti was fabulous, very knowledgeable and enthusiastic. We were a mixed group and he helped bring us all together. All the stops were delicious and we were well received by the restaurants. We had a delicious variety of foods, each well explained of its importance in the Balogna and Italian culture.
Valentina and Lucia were very knowledgeable, helpful, and personable. They made it a fun, special day!
What made this experience truly brilliant was how cleverly it was structured. Instead of random food stops, Davide designed the tour like a traditional multi-course Italian meal spread across different spots in Bologna. We progressed seamlessly from aperitivo and appetizers to handmade pasta courses, savory mains, and the best gelato in town. The portions were unbelievably generous—come hungry, because you will definitely leave completely full and satisfied! Beyond the incredible food (the fresh tagliatelle al ragù and local cured meats were out of this world!), Davide is an extraordinary guide. His passion for Bologna is infectious. As we walked between stops, he brought the city to life with fascinating history, hidden local gems, and rich cultural stories. You can tell how well-connected and respected he is by the warm welcomes we received at every single shop and trattoria. This was easily the best thing we did in Bologna. Huge thanks to Davide for such a generous, delicious, and insightful morning! 🇮🇹🍝🍷
We went to some great places and ate some lovely dishes
Our tour guide Luca was absolutely amazing! He not only explained the food, but also the history of Bologna. He went out of his way to make sure we had a great time and learned a lot. Probably my favorite tour guide we have ever had and we've had a lot!
My sister and I took a culinary tour in Bologna and Davide Serpieri was our tour guide. He had a very welcoming nature and funny personality and as we walked through the square to each culinary point, he gave us some history of some of the architecture and historical buildings in the areas that we were walking. When we arrived at our first eating destination, Davide explained the types of pasta we would be eating and how each was made and what sauces went best with each. We also experienced and enjoyed a favorite local street food at another location along our walk. We also walked to another stop for a hearty veal dish with roasted potatoes, and Davide explained the preparation of that meal, as well. We then stopped along the way for two scoops each of gelato where Davide explained the difference between true gelato and processed gelato. Our final destination was a cup of espresso at a local spot. We loved that it was a small group (a total of 10 people). We definitely recommend a culinary tour with Davide if you want a great experience.
Lorenzo is a PHD student in art history in Bologna and certainly knows his food. We enjoyed a delicious range of delights in Bologna finishing with proper gelati ..... kept under a lid. Lorenzo was enthusiastic, has a great sense of humour and made us feel like we were a small part of Bologna for the night.
The food spots were excellent choices and our tour guide Guliana was very knowledgeable about Food and Bologna
Amazing food and a great way to learn history about the food and history of Bologna!
We thoroughly enjoyed this tour. The food was delicious and our guide, Eugenio Marchett, was excellent! He showed us different parts of the city and explained some of the history while feeding us amazing food. Highly recommend this tour.
It was a really entertaining afternoon with taste of a lot of different foods and a lot of interesting information that kept engaged. Eugenio was a great guide!
Taking the tour with Lorenzo was a pleasure. His knowledge of the city and local food was excellent. He was friendly and took good care of the group
We had a great afternoon. We appreciated Lorenzo's engaging manner and his knowledge was obvious. We really enjoyed the food that we ate and felt like we had a true local's experience of Bologna's food. Highly recommended.
Eugenio is an excellent guide. Very knowledgeable. Great walking pace and the food stops awesome.
Francesca was a great guide, full of enthusiasm and local knowledge. Food was good, and enough of it, but nothing we couldn't have found on our own. No hidden gems! We were offered a drinks add-on at our first stop, but it didn't seem like value for money. I would have liked to have stopped at local vendors to taste salumi and cheeses rather than some of the stops we did make. We ran into a few other tours stopping at the same places. Surely Bologna has enough eateries to make unique stops. I enjoyed chatting with Francesca and the other tourists, and finding the hidden canal views. Would recommend but don't expect too much.
A great tour with more than enough superb food tastings. WE left informed and full from the great food!
It was great!!! We had a small tour and our guide was great.
Fantastic tour with Luka who was very knowledgeable. Food portions more generous than expecting as well. Glad did it in evening
The food was fun and informative. Luca, our guide was amazing. He was friendly, knowledgeable and made the experience a memorable one. I’m happy I went and would recommend!
Luca is a great guide! He has deep knowledge of the food scene in Bologna with the addition of local secrets of the city that he willingly shared. The food was fantastic!
Francesca was an excellent guide. She took us to wonderful restaurants for different tastes of Bologna, and taught us about history of foods. I learned that tortellini is inspired by the bellybutton of Venus for her beauty! The Bis Primi with tortellini and tagliatelle bolognese was yummy! I liked the variety and ending with gelato and macchiato! It was great to walk to various parts of Bologna. Every little street we walked down was beautiful!
Lovely and delicious. Francesca was a pleasure. Fun group. Great tour. Julie, Lynne, Kathryn, Laura
Our tour guide Roberta was wonderful. She gave so much information regarding the type of food we were eating as well as the background and origin The food tasting’s were delicious. This is the best tour ever!!!
Francesca was excellent with explanations of the food history as well as the history of the city of Bologna. The food was very good and there was very little waiting in the restaurants. We found some hidden restaurants and she gave us many recommendations. It was really fun.
