Nicola was a great tour guide. He met us at our hotel and then promptly started getting to know us so he could tailor the tour around our interests. There is so much to Bologna that isn't commonly known and we were able to learn about and experience a lot of it with his guidance. The pace was comfortable and Nicola was very patient with me as I am a bit of a shutterbug and always taking pictures with my digital camera and cell phone too. He would keep narrating the tour as I was taking photos to keep me informed and my wife engaged. I would highly recommend taking this tour to get to know Bologna on a deeper level than you would if you were just wandering around on your own or part of a large tour group.

Experience Bologna over half a day with a local host who connects the city’s main landmarks with the everyday life around them. From its central piazzas to its food markets and historic streets, Bologna is best understood on foot. Before your experience begins, you will receive a short online questionnaire so your host can design a personalized route based on your interests, pace, and travel style. Here are some highlights your host may include during your experience.
Pass by the Basilica di San Petronio, one of the largest churches in Europe, located in Piazza Maggiore. Its unfinished façade reflects centuries of construction, while its scale highlights Bologna’s historical importance and civic identity.
Walk through Mercato delle Erbe, a lively indoor market where locals shop for fresh produce, meats, and regional specialties. It offers a clear view of Bologna’s food culture, where everyday ingredients remain central to how the city eats and lives.
Visit Santa Maria della Vita, known for its remarkable Baroque interior and expressive sculptures. Located in the historic center, it offers insight into the artistic and religious heritage that continues to shape the city.
See the Two Towers, Bologna’s most recognizable landmark and a lasting symbol of its medieval past. These leaning structures once represented wealth and influence and continue to define the city’s skyline today.
Walk along Via Zamboni, at the heart of Bologna’s university district. Lined with historic buildings and lecture halls, this street reflects the energy of student life and the presence of one of the oldest universities in the world.

Little time spent at the market area, university and library in Bologna Guide walked very slow and talked a lot about personal experiences
Paolina was super friendly, knowledgeable, sought our feedback on pace, content, interest to ensure we had a great experience!
Nicole gave such an informative tour of Bologna. Learning all of its history and observing so much of its architecture and beautiful places was so amazing. He showed pictures and videos so we could exactly imagine life in different periods! We were given so many recommendations of places to visit and restaurant to eat at which was so helpful on our arrival day. He was the perfect tour guide and so accommodating.
Walking through the heart of Bologna and listening to Paulina on the history Bologna was totally wonderful. She knows the “secrets” and has “keys” to many Bologna’s best points of interest. Highly recommended
My brother and I decided to do a day trip to Bologna from Venice. The train ride was just ocer and hour. Fortunately, we found the option to do the day tour for a few hours and were very happy with the results of the quantity of time. More importantly, our tour guide , Claudio was the most considerate and knowledgeable person we couid have hoped for. We walked significantly but it want too taxing. It was great to learn about the great historical nuggets about the city. In addition, he offered some great recommendations to eat and we were very pleased to have dined in this food forward city. If you happen to get him as a guide consider yourself lucky
We took a walking tour today with Andrea from City Unscripted, and every moment of it was educational and fabulous. Among the many places we visited, we saw the Arcgiginnasio di Bologna, which housed the oldest university in Europe with studies of law or philosophy; the statue of Neptune that is PG13 from one view, but R from the side; the Biblioteca Salaborsa that sits atop Roman ruins; and later we worshipped at both two churches and at the church of mortadella 😜😋 We were hungry at the end of the tour since we had just arrived in Bologna by train when we met Andrea, so he left us at a fabulous restaurant where we had a sandwich before heading back to our residence for a bit of a rest. He recommended a restaurant for dinner that we will hope to try tomorrow. Everything was great, and I highly recommended!
We had an amazing food tour in Bologna with Antonia to celebrate our husbands' 60th birthdays! Antonia was incredibly knowledgeable and passionate, taking us to charming local spots we wouldn’t have found on our own. We savored delicious tortellini and enjoyed a delightful balsamic vinegar tasting and homemade pasta, all while soaking in Bologna’s vibrant atmosphere. Antonia made the experience fun and personal, sharing fascinating stories along the way. It was a memorable day filled with laughter, great food, and wonderful company. This tour is a must for anyone visiting Bologna!
Diego was a perfect guide. He arrived early, and stayed longer than we had booked him for, because he was so excited to show us more. He is very passionate about his city Bologna, and his passion is infectious. We truly loved every minute of our tour with Diego, and highly recommend him. We listened to his suggestions and gave him our input, and the result was a fabulously customized and memorable experience. We left Bologna with a great understanding of its life and culture, and a hope that we will soon return for more.
This was a great way to get to know the city from a locals perspective. Our guide was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. She answered all of our questions and gave us tips on things to do after our tour.
That our host, Paulina, was super good at adapting the tour to our interrests and answering our many mnay questions. Highly reccomend her.
Claudio Natale was a fabulous walking tour guide...he is a hidden gem himself! Our two hour tour not only included the basics...but he also addressed several of our specific interests. Enjoy!!! Len
We just finished a great tour with Antoni a few hours ago. We had a personal 3 hour tour with her which covered the central area of Bologna. We learned the history of Bologna, saw Roman ruins and great buildings and learned where all the fun restaurants are located and where to buy food, plus we learned some odd items that we would never have found. Highly recommend a tour with Antonia.
Words can not express my appreciation for the best tour we received from Claudio in Bologna. He really went out of his way to meet All our desires and expectations. Knowledgeable, friendly, well versed in English language and kind hearted. Great Asset to the tour company's he participated with. Thank you very much.
The history of Bologna we received from our guide. She showed us around the whole plaza and pointed out several secrets from years back. We also were able to taste the best of Bologna.
Amazing guide (Mirko) who was so knowledgeable and engaging we had a great time with him. We spent six hours with him and it seemed to go by pretty fast.
On Saturday Sept 9 @ 10 AM my husband (age 80) and I (age 75) had the privilege of accompanying Fiore on a 3 hour private walking tour of Bologna, a city that she knows very well. Fiore loves Bologna -its history - its architecture - its people and she passed on her enthusiasm for all things Bologna to us. Her personal stories added depth to the historical information she passed along. Some details first: Fiore arrived early for our tour; she was fluent in English; she spoke clearly and slowly so she was very easy to understand; she happily incorporated some personal requests ( like an ATM stop) without backtracking or wasting our tour time; lastly, she recommended a wonderful restaurant where my husband and I enjoyed lunch after the tour. The tour itself was fascinating and comprehensive. We visited several of Bologna’s secrets and three of its churches, two university sites, several monuments and piazzas. Fiore’s knowledge of Bologna’s history was vast and she was just as adept at explaining the city’s buildings and their place in history. She was able to share her knowledge in easily understood capsules of information. We highly recommend touring with Fiore. It was her personality and love of Bologna that gave this tour its character. If we had more time - I would do another tour with Fiore again.
Gabriele did a fantastic job of showing us so many highlights of Bologna. He was extremely informative and greatly contributed to the wonderful time we had in Bologna.
Great experience with private guide, father and son. Giacomo was very knowledgeable and passionate about his job! Real pleasure and great tour seeing the best of the city in a few hours!excellent!
Claudia was our guide and we thought she was lovely. Very knowledgeable as she has lived in the area all her life. Took us to many great places we would have never found. She also took us to several great food spots and recommended a restaurant for dinner that turned out to be the best dinner we have had in Italy so far. The only reason I didn’t give her 5 stars is that she speaks too softly for a guide. There were only 5 of us and we all had trouble hearing her. Her English is good but not great and the combination made her a little hard to understand at noisy locations. I highly recommend this 4 hour tour. There is so much to see in this beautiful & vibrant city.
Giacomo was terrific as a guide of Bologna. He was personable, friendly, knowledgeable. A very special 2 hour tour and way to remember the wonderful Italian city of Bologna!
We very much enjoyed the history and stories we were told by our guide Antonia. She also pointed out recommendations of what we might like to visit after our tour ended and good places to eat. We took her up on the Tratorria for dinner and it was delicious! Her English was good so evident miss anything. Thanks for the fun trip
With Francesca who speaks excellent English we had a very nice, dedicated, educated young student who showed us her hometown in 4 hours. We have seen all the important sights and learned a lot. We also liked that she led us to a local snack in the market hall away from the tourist bustle. Thanks to Francesca we got a good impression of this interesting city. A very recommendable tour!
I did the tour of 5 hours, very tiring but beautiful and very interesting, the guide was very clear and the visit is great for those who are passionate and interested in history and culture, recommended.
