Very informative. Valentina was engaging and entertaining. If you don't know the city at all, yniz also provides high level information.

Our tour guide had exceptional knowledge of the history of food in Bologna. We learned far more than we could have ever expected.
Darren was an amazing guide on our Bologna food tour. As a chef, he knew all the best food and hidden spots, and he brought the city’s history to life in such an engaging way. He was friendly, easy to talk to, and made the whole experience truly unforgettable. Couldn’t recommend him more!
A great experience the only point we would say as it was a Sunday and the traditional pasta making venue was closed we were taken to a fast food pasta store aka McDonalds pasta and it lost the authentic pasta making we were hoping for, the rest was great 👍🍷
For my group of friends it was not what was expected . We could not hear the guide speak most of the time. He mostly looked ahead when speaking and not towards us as the group of people. The impression we got from the description was that there would be a walk through a food market but this did not happen .
Our walking food tour with Federica was fantastic! We learned so much from her about all the local delicacies and tasted so much. We loved the history and being taken to off the beaten paths as well as to a place where locals have been going for hundreds of years to enjoy the local wines. Along with the tour, we got tons of reccomendations for the rest of our time in Bologna. Well worth booking!
We really enjoyed the walking food tour. Valentina was an excellent guide, full of knowledge and enthusiam for both the food and Bologna itself.
Super informative and fun, our guide was exceptional. Really interesting and knowledgeable. I would thoroughly recommend taking this tour.
Absolutely awful. Tour guide had no knowledge of food or wine. Expressed way too many political opinions. Food was awful. Had macaroni and cheese at a fast food location. Save your money buy your own dinner elsewhere
The food was amazing! We started with coffee for the adults and got hot chocolate for the kids. Everyone loved it! Then we learned to make tortellini from our tour guide, Darren. Afterwards we got some tortellini or for a vegetarian option, tortelloni. We walked back to the square and learned about the history of it. We then walked around finding ingredients for our charcuterie board and wine. We finished it off with some delicious gelato. Darren was amazing and gave great restaurant suggestions. Highly recommend!
Loved the balsamic tasting and watching the chef roll the dough for the yummy pastries! It was a fun time!
Andrea was our guide and he took us to all the different spots to taste Bologna. Really enjoyed tasting the Balsamic Vinegar! Andrea was very knowledgeable about Bologna and all there is to eat there! Would highly recommend this tour!
This tour came highly recommended by a cousin and we were not disappointed. Our guide Fede was knowledgeable and interesting. The tour offered a wonderful dip not just into Bologna’s food but also the city’s history. The high point a picnic in the world’s oldest wine. A great introduction to a lovely place.
Our food tour in Bologna was incredible! We booked a semi private tour and my husband and I ended up being the only ones on the tour! Our tour guide was the most kind woman (Mikelle). She made our day even though it was cold and 2 days before Christmas.
Christina, our guide, was very knowledgeable about all of Bologna, history as well as food. Had four excellent tastings - balsamic vinegar, tigella, tortellini, and gelato. Toured markets and vendor stalls on food streets. Ended up replacing dinner plans. Excellent tour!
Claudia was a wonderful and engaging guide. She is well versed on the origins of certain foods. Diverse selection of Bologna dishes .
Highly recommend on your first day of Bologna as the guide points out many of the important landmark with history and take you around the markets and restaurants areas with a great amount of Bolognese traditional food! Then you can go back to the places to explore some more later~ Thoroughly enjoyed this tour!
Great acete (vinager) tasting to start the tour, and nice small meal with traditional Tuscan sandwich. But we didn't taste any cheeses or sliced meats. The pasta was a little basic so slightly disappointing. We thought the tour would ramp up, but it slipped a bit after the first two stops. Especially for price. Guide was kind and very informative.
Our guide was lovely (didn’t introduce herself so not sure of her name). She had a great knowledge of Bologna but no food knowledge. She didn’t seem to know the agenda for the food part. We were expecting a foodie tour and this wasn’t it. The history of Bologna was great though
I found the guide to be amazing - I would love to learn more about the city from Emilia, who seems to know everyone in the historic city center. That said, I was very underwhelmed by the food part of the tour, which was the point for me. It felt like we went to very very average locations, and I thought the tortellini tasted like it came from a package. Wouldn’t recommend to people who want to be guided to good food in the city.
Excellent guide - really good value and made new friends on the way ! Food was excellent and the tour guide was flexible to all our needs
The tour was wonderful. We learned a lot about Bologna and it’s foods along with the wonderful architecture. Highly recommend.
As a seasoned food adventurer (Bangkok, Taipei, Seoul, Madrid, Oaxaca, etc), I love a food tour to introduce me to a new culture through their food! While I've consistently had amazing experiences (all 5-star!), this Bologna food tour was sadly unpleasant. Knowing the decision fatigue of choosing tours, especially in Italy's food capital, I felt compelled to share my experience to help fellow travelers. A Slow Start and Missed Opportunities The tour began at Piazza Maggiore with some historical tidbits, but a whole hour passed before our first bite! We then arrived at the vibrant Quadrilatero market, where we were offered Tigelle with ragu...as coupons for later! We were all hungry, so naturally, we opted to eat then. Next came the balsamic vinegar tasting. Unfortunately,as explained by our guide, because we chose to eat at the prior stop rather than take the coupons for later, another group jumped ahead. The wait wasn't filled with history or information, just awkward small talk. The tasting itself lacked detail – just age statements (one bottle even ran out!). Luckily, a fellow traveller had recently done a balsamic tour and shared their balsamic knowledge. Coupons & Confusion Following the vinegar, we received more coupons – this time for gelato! It felt like these "try-later" options detracted from the food tour experience of actually trying and learning about food! Finally, we reached a restaurant with a stunning terrace view of the Two Towers. Here, we had a small portion of lukewarm Tortellini with Parmesan cream. While the view was lovely, the food itself felt underwhelming, especially considering the lack of earlier tastings. Disorganized Distractions Overall, the focus on food history, interesting tips, and food exploration was minimal. The guide's information, though potentially interesting, felt disjointed and often strayed from food or the tour itself. Travel anecdotes can be charming, but here, the disorganization became distracting. Recommendation: Look Elsewhere Sadly, I can't recommend this tour. Perhaps it was an off day, but with so many other options, I wouldn't risk it. This was so poor that I felt I needed to ask for a partial refund, which was declined. This tour simply didn't deliver the delicious cultural immersion I crave. Food lovers, explore your options and find a tour that truly celebrates the food capital of Bologna.
Our guide Benedetta was excellent. Our group learned so much about the food of Bologna. We gain such an appreciation for the quality and the history of food in Italy and specifically Bologna. I enthusiastically recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bologna.
Christina was our guide and her knowledge of her city is fantastic. The three places that she took us to sample the delights of Bologna was perfect. Highly recommended friendly knowledgeable and would definitely recommend to all English speakers to come and learn more about this wonderful city.
The guide, Cristina, was absolutely fabulous!! Highly recommend her! Very knowledgeable, friendly, great personality. It was my absolute luck that i was the only person on the tour.
Great guide, very knowledgeable and kind. Only critique is I would have liked to sample one more typical Bologna tastings such as mortadella, tortellini in brodo (it came in a cream sauce instead), or parmesan. The tastings we had were very good and we were full by the end.
An amazing taste of the produce that comes from Emilia Romana, beautiful balsamic, incredible tigelle with Ragu and to finish some of the best gelato in bologna. It's a perfect way to explore the city
Great tour! We got to walk around the city and learn done of it's history while trying various foods. We got to try tigelle with ragu, tortellini, parmigiano reggiano, and different types of aged balsamic (my favorite). The tour guide was friendly and helpful!
Our guide Bernadette was so knowledgeable and a delight. She truly knows this wonderful city. It was just a shame that we weren’t aware that several places were closed as it was a Sunday.
Matteo was our guide, and was fantastic! He was warm, personable, knowledgeable and energetic. He clearly loves what he does and it's infectious. The foods and drinks we consumed were wonderful - I especially appreciated Matteo's recommendations for other food purveyors and restaurants to try out. I look forward to making Matteo's recipe for bolognese sauce - it has a few twists not found in my current favorite recipe, that of Marcella Hazan. If I had to give one bit of constructive criticism, it'd be that Matteo's post-pranzo lecture on food production in Emilia-Romagna was a bit hard to focus on with full stomachs while sitting in a warm room - ?perhaps move to a cooler spot after lunch for the informational talk. Otherwise, a great experience and I would recommend Matteo and Taste Bologna to anyone.
We went to the food walking tour yesterday after 2 days in Bologna. For 55 euros, this tour does not deliver anything that can’t be done in your own time. Out of the four tastings that were promised, we completed two - 1) a balsamic vinegar tasting that can be completed for free if you visit the store 2) a ragu sandwich with a cheap glass of wine. We were then given a voucher to a take-away tortellini place and a gelato because we ‘ran out of time’. Our guide was super friendly and very passionate about the history of Bologna however, if you are wanting to do a food tour, we would highly recommend going elsewhere or just walking near mercato di mezzo as this is free and will give you the same experience.
We had a great couple of hours with Christina learned a lot about Bologna and had some great food tastings! Very original and fun!
I actually really loved this tour. It wasn’t super crowded and our tour guide was so knowledgeable about Bologna. It was the perfect blend of history and food, impossible to get bored.
Absolutely fantastic tour guide and experience.! Not only did we receive the history of the culinary traditions but had very generous tastings and could ask any questions to our very knowledgeable and friendly guide. Worth every penny and more!
Thank you Sara for a wonderful tour. You really brought the city to life. We sampled various foods from balsamic vinegar ( who would have thought it could be so expensive - and interesting?) to ice cream. We learned lots about the history of the city and the importance of various food products now (like mortadella and Parmesan cheese) and in the past (eels and frogs!). The tour was a wonderfully relaxing and enjoyable way to spend a morning.
This tour is extremely bad value and my wife and I regret taking part. The preamble suggested the ‘enjoyment of three tastings’ - in fact the first was a balsamic vinegar tasting which was available to any visitor to the Giuseppe Giusti of Modena shop, the second was a visit to Bottega Ranocchi to be given the choice of a small glass of low quality Emilia Romagna white or red wine followed (15 minutes later!) by a small wafer sandwich containing ‘authentic’ bolognaise sauce, and the final tasting was a small paper cone containing tortellini fritti outside the L’Asporto Street Food establishment. Yes there was some interesting input from the guide from time to time but the two hour experience was badly organised and represented very poor value. For the 55 Euro cost per person we could have enjoyed a nice meal in one of the many excellent restaurants in Bologna and probably have learned as much! I should point out that I did feed back to the offices of tour organisers in person and was advised to write a formal complaint - which I did but to date I’ve neither received a reply nor even an acknowledgment of my original complaint or my follow up reminder - not good!
The Balsamic vinegar tasting was really interesting and tasty. The stop for a wine tasting and Ragu mini-sandwich was in a great spot. The wine was good while the Ragu mimi-sandwich okay. The final stop for a tortellini tasting was okay. The Tour Guide was always helpful, friendly and knowledgeable.
We loved this food walking tour! It was a nice and fun way to get to know Bologna. Our tour guide was very friendly and knowledgeable. She shared a lot of interesting information about the history of the cuisine in Bologna and local region. The food tastings were delicious and we really enjoyed the tour overall!
Our guide had lots of good insider tips on where to eat later, as well as good info on the history of Bologna.
Very nice professional host. The information was good. The food experience was ok but not much variety
The guide was the best. She spoke in good English made me aware of some of the history of Bologna. The group was fun an the food samples were delicious.
This was a great tour, exceeding our expectations and much better than other similar tours in Bologna we have taken. Margherita, our tour guide, was warm and welcoming, took extra time to share with us some history of Bologna in addition to the food part, showed us some good stores. Plus she was fun and funny, and very knowledgeable about not only Bologna but also the nearby towns. Great tour, highly recommended.
It was very fun and educational. Our guide even spoke Dutch and she was super friendly. We enjoyed xr tour and the tastings.
Valentina, the guide was great. But the locations for the tastings were not particularly authentic. Apart from balsamic tasting. But you don’t need the tour for that, you can always go to the shop and get advice and try it out. The pasta and tigelle were available in fast food or street food stores that looked like a chain or franchise to me. Around the market there are much better locations to try out and the wine is not available from the plastic cup. Too bad, the information Valentina gave was good, but culinary it was not particularly great.
A nice tour of the Quadrilatero with great information about the local businesses! Had great food, although perhaps the individuality was a bit lacking! Our guide was very charming U answered all our questions! The tasting of Balsamic Vinegar was definitely a highlight!
The perfect tour to enjoy the best of Bolognese gastronomy! The guide was very prepared and professional, ready to explain any doubts not about food, but also about the curiosities of Bologna. Super approved tour:)
Ideal tour for food lovers who want to discover something more about the typical gastronomy of Bologna. Friendly and prepared guide, who accompanies you to try various samples of tigelle, tortellini etc., always ready to answer our questions and curiosities! Very recommended 😊
