We didn't really know what to expect but arrived at the address on the ticket to be told it wasn't opening at that address until Monday and the lady kindly took us to the old address. New place will be easier to find near the 2 towers. The VR sets were cleaned and fitted. We were given clear instructions. We wandered through the medieval streets of Bologna and had a birds eye view flying over the city.

The VR tour of medeival Bologna was great; very well done. Enjoyable (even for a 58-year-old like me, and I'm sure kids would appreciate it even more) and informative. Choose the longer version (25 minutes). Note that the same experience is also available at the Museum of the History of Bologna (for a higher charge I believe as it includes entrance to the whole museum). Note: At the latter location there are also experiences about the Roman era and 18th century (canals) in the city. I did these too (at extra charge) and would recommend them (the short versions) somewhat, in the aforementioned order. Returning to this attraction -- the Time Machine museum -- it also has a show called "Dante's Inferno" which was sort of grisly but entertaining enough. (I'd choose the short version.) Note: This museum is very small, centrally located near the main tower.
The place was not easy to find! Address on TripAdvisor is incorrect so use website details. Then it's a couple of rooms in a very nice palazzo. Experience was pretty low tech, although interesting.
Entering with high expectations well on time, we first found nobody at reception and then 15 min after the time slot were let in by a guy who made no contact with us, but just almost inaudible explained how we had to use our controllers. Not much fun in his job. That was clear. Then it began and the devices were not working properly or the language or sound had to be adapted … four people with 1 employee. Finally it was running. It is Supposed to be a 2021 Virtual reality experience but the digital quality is from 10 years back. All new games on devices at our home have a higher quality and nothing came true like ‘you are guided into the world of the 1st century in Bologna’. It was so unreal and (I am really sorry to say) not catching, that we now were happy it only lasted for 25 min. Rather disappointed about our 4 x 18€ per ticket !!! we left the building. Great idea but take a look at professional institutes like Disney or Omniversum movies to give your cliënts a real sensation of being in a different time zone… this is 1990 technology
Something new and different than usual, we enjoyed it. You come to the room, you get your VR set and you are ready to explore. The best part - flying :)
Interesting Virtual Reality experience and informational about the history of Bologna around 900 years ago. Focus is the system of towers that were residences as well as defensive structures. Highlight flying around above the city.
Something different to try during your stay, there are 4 experiences that you can enjoy which can take you back in time to medieval Bologna or egypt. Me and my 13 year old daughter thoroughly enjoyed the experience. You have 2 options of a short session (14 mins) at a cost of €12 or the long session (25 mins) at a cost of €18. We did the long session and it was a great way to see what things would of been like back in medieval time which puts some of the sights into context, overall a very good experience
I highly recommend the longer tour. This was my first experience with a VR museum and it was really fun. I have a little gasp when a horse ran me over! At the end you can jump off a tower (it’s not scary) and fly over the city. The young man at the museum was very friendly and helpful. Our best non-food experience in Bologna.
It was a great experience to "walk" and "talk" with the inhabitants of the village in the century XIII. It is really worth to visit.
We decided to do the shorter virtual reality tour. It lasts 15 minutes and you get to see all the history of Bologna. The place is clean, and the people are very friendly and good at explaining. They even accommodate people who wear glasses so don’t shy away from doing this because you think they will say no to glasses. I personally did not like the feeling of “virtual reality” but it was a great experience nevertheless, and all of my other family members thoroughly enjoyed it. You get to learn a little bit without having to get up but it is still an interactive setting. Virtual reality is not for everyone, but definitely worth trying at least once!
We were there as a family of five (children 16, 13, 10). Everyone loved it. Entertaining VR tour of old Bologna.
The virtual tour is not particularly excellent. we were a little disappointed. the idea is also good but the service needs to be updated with new and better graphically defined videos.
After walking through medieval Bologna for a while, the program switched to "flight mode" so that we could fly over and along the towers.
A fun, interesting and at the same time cultural experience. A different way of looking at history. Highly, highly recommended
Great expectation, 36 euros in two, and in the end it's just a simulator with a very poor resolution. Not recommended, better a good plate of tortellini at the restaurant next door. Wasted opportunity
An extraordinary virtual experience that exceeds all expectations both for the settings of everyday life in medieval Bologna, reconstructed on the basis of serious historical research, and for the engaging identification for those who access this augmented reality. At the ticket office Giuseppe welcomes and directs with exhaustive information on the possibilities offered by the museum of Palazzo Piepoli. Professional and very kind operators Stefania and Eugenia accompany visitors in this experience. Wonderful! Recommended for those who love to play with history. Carmen, Maria and Sandra.
Very engaging and fun experience for both adults and children. The virtual tour in medieval Bologna (piazza Santo Stefano, piazza di Porta Ravegnana, the two towers and Strada Maggiore), with explanations of the inhabitants of the time, arts and crafts, curiosities and historical hints, is very interesting and instructive. Super exciting and suggestive the overflight of the city! Thanks to the guys, very kind and professional. Super recommended! We will be back soon to try the other experiences.
A really interesting experience! Walking in medieval Bologna and meeting characters of the time is pleasant and instructive! Amazing flight between the towers!!! With the guys we had the short (and really affordable) experience, but came back the next day to experience the full version. To do!
Great experiences!! We did both the virtual escape room and Dante's experience and we had a great time and had a great time. Federica and Gianmarco are helpful and cute masters! Absolutely recommended! We will be back
An interesting virtual tour and a fun experience. It is very worth the price and there is discount for students.
Beautiful experience to know medieval Bologna in a fun way. The children also loved it. Fantastic flight over the towers and the super Bolognese accent of the characters with whom you interact. Recommended!
A very special and very realistic experience. You can visit medieval Bologna during the day, with rain, at night and even (even) flying. A quarter of an hour well spent and recommended stop for those who must act as Cicero to their friends in this fantastic city (also virtual).
Beautiful experience for kids and adults. Staff very kind and attentive to every need, helpful and patient with children. Fun activity, definitely to try and try again given the different interactive experiences available.
Exciting virtual tour in medieval Bologna!!!! I recommend it especially for boys. Very kind and competent Alice who helped us become familiar with the instrumentation (which she disinfected before use).
Visit medieval Bologna, learn about it through the voice of the protagonists and then fly over the city, what a wonderful experience. Also the Welcoming and explanation were great, so we will return to do the other proposed activities and would definitely recommend it!
We were hoping for more... Unfortunately... Overpriced for 18 euros a head - more of a tourist trap... Graphically quite well done but more interesting for children but not for adults...
Great experience for everyone. Very nice staff and hygienic working regarding the corona conditions. The city tour “differently” was fun and the time unfortunately went by way too fast...
Little place hidden in Via Zamboni in Bologna, really worth a visit! It was really an interesting and fun experience. The gentleman who runs it explained everything in detail, really competent and nice! We took the tour of medieval Bologna with final flight over the towers! Really realistic, not to be missed if you go to Bologna!
I wouldn't repeat it. Excessive cost, low technology and graphics. More interesting is the introduction to the experience by the staff: the feeling is that we have sold as exceptional a slightly less than ordinary experience.
This was super to do with a son of 10 and 14 years. You walk through the Middle Ages and fly through the day. From morning to afternoon to weather conditions to night. Everywhere there are people telling you about Bologna's past. But interactive. You walk, climb, fly! Let's look for the entrance on the via zamboni, then to the first floor. Super Service from the two ladies, who give you a good explanation. Highly recommended
Unique experience, in addition to medieval Bologna my girlfriend and I also made the virtual escape room really fun and special. Super friendly and very nice staff, experience to recommend to anyone and that when I return to Bologna I will absolutely do again. Super recommended!
The experience is interesting especially because it is innovative and still rare in this country. Several things are however improveable: the tour is short and the graphics improveable and above all the price is high.
Cute activity to try! with the visor you can immerse yourself in medieval Bologna and move through the streets of the city animated in 3D.
Exciting and unusual experience to try with friends and especially children / grandchildren. Virtual reality helps you immerse yourself in the city of yesteryear, exploring and walking through arcades and farms ‘within the walls’ and towers of Bologna
Experience to try at least once in a lifetime. The guys are super helpful as are those who run this virtual reality museum!
A virtual journey through medieval Bologna. I expected more, the rebuilt and therefore visitable part of the city is very limited. However a curious experience, although I would say a bit too expensive for what it offers.
A nice tour in medieval Bologna. A different thing that you can only do here!!!!!!! Young and nice staff!!!
A fun and well-packaged experience, really makes the idea of medieval Bologna. For those who already know it because Bolognese (like me) makes you immerse in well-known places that were! For those who do not know it makes you appreciate the characteristics of our beautiful city and helps prepare for the visit of the city or to better understand what you have already seen. The premises are spacious and well maintained, the staff friendly and enthusiastic. Surely I would be curious to try another route in the future.
Sensory and exciting experience. The dream of anyone who loves history , or those who want to know the city in a "different" way. a special thanks to Mrs. Silvia, competent and very nice. Maria Rosaria
The option we chose was the 25 min walk through medieval Bologna which is divided into several sections, I think I remember were four: day walk, climbing a tower, flight and night walk. In the first one there are many characters who give the feeling of interacting with you because they recognize you and talk to you if for example you are in the middle of the street and you pass a cart over (you think you are a ghost) and there are others who give you information of curiosities. The climb to the tower is short and more relaxed for your senses. At night you can't do a big what either but I was impressed by the starry sky. The best thing without a doubt, the flight, because it is very real and intuitive, personally impacted me and made me want to repeat just for flying again (but they do not recommend it logically because then you feel a little dizzy, your senses really believe that you fly but you are sitting). Overall I found it a great experience highly recommended because also the person who attended us, pure-bred Bolognese, knew a lot about history. To put some glue on it, I would say that, first, they took a while to open the door and we were about to leave, which seemed to me too much information (virtual experience and historical data) for so little time and finally I think that you could make some technical virtual improvements with more characters but absolutely with a little more time or even make different versions of the same package to be able to make two with a price also according. I recommend it 100%!!!
very nice and helpful guys. learn the medieval history of Bologna to the kids having fun is an excellent alternative.
Spectacular, really! makes it clear all about how and what Bologna was in 1200. the towers... even if it is not perfectly cared for in every detail (because it would take a job done in a workmanlike way as a game.... it is done well and is very cute. Highly recommended absolutely! And the personaòe is really friendly!
We paid 14€ for 12 minutes. As soon as we arrived we realized that some of the devices were not working. The experience itself is mega without grace, it is not easy to understand what is happening, what is being said... It is interesting for those who have time and have never used a virtual reality device, but the experience left much to be desired.
We booked the short tour in medieval Bologna. It was a lot of fun to move around the city virtually, we were able to take some interesting information with us. I would book the longer tour next time, the time passed far too fast.
It was my "first time" with a virtual reality headset. All very impressive. "Walk" through the ancient center of Bologna, "listen" to the chatter of shopkeepers and passers-by, browse the stalls, "enter" an ancient inn. And then "fly over" Bologna, among the endless towers. In short, a really nice trip. Even for me, who was at my first experience and I am not familiar with these tools it was all very easy, thanks to the girls and boys of the staff who discreetly, assist you and come to your aid in case of need, with great courtesy and affability. In short, an experience definitely to recommend to everyone.
The virtual reality tour is very interesting and the people who welcomed us are super friendly. Recommended!
A blast from the past to walk through the alleys of medieval Bologna. Beautiful initiative very engaging. Very kind organizers always close for every need. To try to understand firsthand life at that time. Also recommended for boys who can touch the story.
Try to see the city is the story with new eyes ... I recommend it to both adults and children, very friendly staff and clear explanations
Nice initiative to bring boys and girls closer to the history of Bologna. The staff is very courteous, the explanations very exhaustive, then put on the visor, headphones and fly into the Bolognese Middle Ages. Really fun for adults too, with the final gem of the flight over the Towers. Don't worry, I suffer from dizziness, but it's a gentle and pleasant flight, so much so that then a slalom flying between the towers, you want not to do it? Good, congratulations
As a Bolognese, going back to his past was fantastic. Rediscovering your city as it was in the Middle Ages, walking in the alleys, observing how daily life was going on, seeing how many towers were present, entering it, climbing the steps up to the top. And then take that flight over Bologna, like ... pigeons (typical birds of the city) touch the towers and soar free to savor, enjoy and say: how beautiful my city is. To recommend to all tourists to understand and love my city.
