Unique experience. Unlike anything I've seen before. Worth the trip.
It was a beautiful experience even for a non religious person like myself. Whatever your creed you will appreciate this salt cathedral nestled into a mine!
Good package with just the transfer and tickets to the salt mine. The driver gave good info as we drove (only in Spanish) and arranged entry to the mine - with audio cruises in English. You then tour the mine yourself (or with a guide in Spanish). He then offered for us to have lunch in town (at own cost) or to look around town - which we did.
We had a wonderful guide, Nicholas, who showed us the towns of Guatavita and Zipaquira, along with the sacred lagoon and the Salt Cathedral. He explained a lot of Colombian history, geography and is very knowledgeable about the native peoples. Highly recommend this tour.
We had a wonderful trip with Nick to the Laguna de Guatavita and the Salt Cathedral. Nick is very knowledgeable and was always making sure we were comfortable and enjoying the tour.
My wife and I took the full-day tour to the Zipaquira Salt Cathedral and the Laguna de Guatavita, and it was the absolute highlight of our trip to Colombia. It perfectly blends incredible engineering, deep history, and stunning natural beauty. Our guide Lorena was excellent, the transport was comfortable, and everything ran on time.
Lorena (guide) and Omar (driver) are an exceptional team who truly define the adventure you’ll experience during the tour. They expertly adapt to challenges like traffic and large crowds at museums while keeping the schedule on track. We booked the tour just the night before, and they responded promptly, ensuring everything was perfectly prepared. We were extremely satisfied with the service and the genuine passion both Lorena and Omar brought to the tour. Highly recommend!
We've done tours all over the world, and I have to say Diego is the best guide we've ever had. The lake was beautiful with very interesting history, and the salt cathedral was mind-blowing. However, Diego greatly enhanced the entire experience by sharing his very detailed knowledge on everything, and kept us smiling all day. He was very attentive to our needs and safety, and takes lots of photographer grade pictures. Both the breakfast and dinner were delicious authentic Colombian meals, and top the list on our 3 week trip. I just can't say enough on how awesome are experience was.
We took a group of six, four adults and two kids, on this tour of Guatavita, and the salt mines of Columbia. Transportation was made extremely easy by a vehicle, large enough to hold us all and a fantastic driver, Edisson. Our guide for the day was Diego. He is extremely enthusiastic about the history and culture of Columbia and made certain that we were comfortable the entire time. We went on several tours in Columbia, and he was by far the best guide that we encountered. if you were considering venturing away from Bogota. This is a must do.
Fantastic experience with Diego!! The best tour guide ever. He was attentive to me and my spouse the entire way. He holds so much knowledge about the history of these sites as well as Colombia’s rich biodiversity. I learned so much! I got a little sick on our way to the top - felt like a heat stroke - and Diego made sure I got all the rest (and tea) necessary before continuing the adventure. And then Guillermo (the driver) was such a fun time too! Thank you so much Diego and Guillermo aka Toreto!
I have so many amazing things I want to say but I fear it’ll make this review too long. First off, this experience was already so amazing because of the history behind these wonders but what really made this experience a MILLION times better was our tour guide, Diego, and our driver, Guillermo (Torreto). Diego is SO knowledgeable and passionate of Colombia in general. The way he story tells about the legends of the indigenous group felt like I was there. Besides that, my wife ran into some sun and altitude sickness but Diego’s top priority was always her health. Many times tour guides will rush you but he took so much care for the two of us. Genuinely felt like I was hanging out with friends. You can’t go to Bogota without this tour and hopefully (cross your fingers) you get Diego and Torreto as your awesome duo! ❤️🔥
Diego was a fantastic guide ! Both the lagoon and salt cathedral are great experiences, would highly recommend. Diego was very knowledgeable and funny and we were well fed throughout the day.
Diego was great. He explained everything in the cathedral and knew the best places to see the lagoon. All the food that we tried was so good, there was so much food I didn’t even need dinner.
Just had an amazing tour of Laguna Guatavita and the salt cathedral with True Colombian Experience. Diego was an excellent guide and his insights into their history and significance added depth to our visit. Especially want to thank him for pacing the climb up to Lake Guatavita and suggesting stops that had very few other groups to get good pictures. We enjoyed stunning views, peaceful ambiance, and captivating stories. The tour included breakfast, lunch and a snack - we tasted a lot of authentic Colombian delicacies and drinks with Diego providing added context in the differences in cuisine between regions - if anything, it was too much food for us. Highly recommend this tour.
This tour is amazing! You get to see two of the biggest attractions in Bogota in one day, you try loads of local food and drinks and the guide goes out of their way to show you as many local experiences as possible. My guide (Diego) was amazing, his English is fantastic, he is super friendly and he went above and beyond to make my trip as good as he could make it, he is very knowledgeable and is happy to answer loads of questions about anything in Colombia. Can definitely recommend this tour!
Brilliant day. We were two people and were joined by one other person. Our guide, Diego, was fantastic - as well as being very knowledgeable, he and our driver, Guillermo, were very kind and considerate. Everything was conducted in both Spanish and English. The food stops were fantastic. Would definitely recommend!
Our tour guide was so so knowledgeable and informative. She speaks good English and explained everything so thoroughly. Our driver was excellent too as he was so cautious and drove safely as we find the drivers there are a bit crazy😅😅they drive erratically .
I loved the tour, they contacted 1 days before confirming location, the day I went to the place, everything right, Our Guide was wonderful, super polite and attentive, Omar our driver was very Attention, Congratulation for The Team The True Colombia Experience
Great way to see both attractions in one trip. Food thru out was good. Diego, our Tour guide spoke English and explained each step of the day. Both locations were totally different. The hiking was a nice way to be outside in nature and the cathedral was such a unique experience. Would recommend !
It was great. Diego (guide) and James (driver) were fully dedicated to assure us a wonderful experience. And certainly we did. The Salt Cathedral was epic. We certainly recommend this service and tour.
This was a fantastic tour, Andrea was a fun and knowledgeable guide. I learned so much about the history of the region and the indigenous community. Hiking up the the lagoon was challenging due to the elevation but it was well worth it. The salt mine was cooler than I was anticipating. Overall great tour!
This is an amazing place to visit for any age group. The number of carvings of the Cross, how they organized them in each area, the naming of different events (Christians would understand and appreciate better I assume), the lighting, the ability to touch salt and rock salt -- A must see if you are in Colombia. I was the only person that this organization had so it was the driver, guide and me in a car. It was disappointing that I was not part of a group as I expected that. Do not plan anything after this trip and I will share my experience -- We left at 7 AM and were to come back by 4 PM but somewhere the time calculation was incorrect and we hit traffic and I was in the car 4:10 to 7:20 PM. I missed going to Monserrate during sun set time and was there in the night when It's already very dark.
We took our tour to the Salt Cathedral and Guatavita Town and Lake in early September. After an on time pickup at our meeting point by our guide Andrea and our driver Omar we were on our way to Guatavita, a colonial style town which was build for residents after the original town was flooded by the artificial lake of Guatavita. The whole town is build in the same style which reminds us of architecture used on the island of Teneriffe. Andrea explained the legends of the local Muisca people in connection to the Laguna de Guatavita and the regular sacrifices of golden objects which led to the creation of the legend of Eldorado. After breakfast in town a steady rain convinced us not to visit the Laguna since it required a 1,5 hr. hike and spent more time at the Salt Cathedral. This is an experience not to be missed. It is simply spectacular and the history very interesting. A relative quiet day with only small groups of people made this experience even more enjoyable. Besides the religious parts there are also shops and restaurants underground. The mine next door is still active and it is hard to believe that you are not surrounded by stone but by salt. The Cathedral is next to the town of Zipaquaria where we had a great lunch of barbecued meats. After a relaxed drive back to Bogota we were dropped off at our hotel. Thank's to our guide Andrea and Omar who made this day a day truly to remember and a tour we highly recommend.
Everything went smoothly and is expected. Elizabeth our tour guide was very pleasant and informative. Our driver Steven was very capable driver. We first had a simple breakfast with a few options and I chose the beef rib soup which was very pleasant. We then went to the salt cathedral, which was also a nice experience with our tour guide. After that, we proceeded to the lake, which includes a considerable hike, therefore, would not recommend this trip for anyone with significant orthotic problems, such as knee and back pain. I would not recommend this for anybody that does not have good exercise tolerance. there is significant climbing to get to the lake. This was then followed by simple dinner, which included a pork chop with a sweet-and-sour sauce. This was a very nice experience overall. The tour did last a majority of the day.
It is a full day trip. Starts at 7 am since the place is far about an hour and a half away in traffic and got home at 7 pm. Very interesting trip. We had breakfast and a delicious lunch included. Elizabeth our tour guide was good. Gave us a lot of information. The lagoon is beautiful and well worth the visit. Be prepared for an uphill climb and wear comfortable shoes. The salt cathedral was also very interesting. Great day. Well planned.
A must do when visiting Bogota. Make sure to wear comfortable footwear as you will be hiking. The wobbling knees going up to the lagoon was worth it. Ou guide Andrea was very informative & was very attentive. My husband & I really had a wonderful time.
This tour was outstanding! My guide was Diego who was extremely knowledgeable about the places we visited and their history. He spoke English fluently and had a great demeanor. The views of the lake was stunning and the history is fascinating. The Cathedral de Sal was more beautiful than I imagined. You must see it to know. Breakfast and lunch were included and were very good at local restaurants with excellent choices. Lastly I want to compliment our driver Harvey who did an excellent job keeping us safe on the busy roads in Bogota and the tight country roads outside the city. I highly recommend this tour!
The tour guide Diego and the driver are very nice. During this trip, you can fully understand the Colombian culture and the actual life in Bogota, and you can also enjoy the local traditional food. I highly recommend everyone to choose this tour. 導遊Diego跟司機人都很好,這趟旅程中可以充分瞭解哥倫比亞文化跟波哥大的實際生活情形,也可以享受當地傳統美食,十分推薦大家選擇這個tour!
I had a great time on this tour! The guide was very friendly and knowledgeable! We started early in the morning and did a full day tour of the Salt Cathedral and Guatavita Lagoon. Must do!
The scenic drive to the sites were very interesting.. Restaurant for breakfast was very cozy and you’d experience a true Colombian meal. Diego my guide was very knowledgeable of the history of the lake and the uses of the variety floral plants and trees as we hiked to Lake Guatavita. Salt Lake Cathedral!!! One is in awe to see and hear the intriguing story and sculptures as you explore this underground city!! A great all day trip!! Kudos to Diego
Hey great option for trying real good Colombian food ! Both places are a must ! And if you have the lucky to be with Diego, you will definitely can expect a great experience!
Lorena did a great job showing us the salt Cathedral and Guatavita lake. She was very knowledgeable about the history and culture and plants of the area . Breakfast was very good.
We had a wonderful experience with Lorena. She was great guide for the day and we thoroughly enjoyed our trip with hers. She was very knowledgeable and helpful
It’s not an official trip to Bogotá unless you visit the Salt Cathedral and Guatavita Lagoon. The cathedral is stunning in construction and history and the views from the lagoon were breathtaking. Our guide Elizabeth was amazing and so was our driver Andres.
I had a great day out seeing Lake Guatavita and The Salt Cathedral. Both were very unique and i enjoyed my day immensely. My guide Diego was fantastic. He spoke excellent English and did a great job explaining everything to me. Would thoroughly recommend this day trip.
The salt cathedral was even nicer than expected. I’ve been to the salt mines in Poland and this was even nicer. If you come to Colombia to visit this is a must see and the tour ride was amazing she was knowledgeable and helpful.
One of the strangest places I've seen. Not spectacularly beautiful; just really unusual. It's essentially a Catholic church created from an abandoned mine. Very interesting to see how they arranged different elements of the "cave" to make the church and related elements.
This is an amazing tour! Our tour guide Elizabeth & Driver Henry were awesome. They took very good care of us. The Lagoon was a great place to enjoy the nature. The climbing was very difficult. Husband had asthma and had a hard time breathing. But, he made it. The Cathedral Sal was wonderful and so amazing to experience it. A must visit place. The breakfast and lunch was okay.
What a beautiful trip. Diego took great care of the group and made the entire day great fun. His passion for the history and culture is noteworthy. Both Guatavita Lake and the Salt Cathedral are excellent. It’s nice to get out of the city and into the nature. Highly recommended.
Excellent trip. We had a very comfortable vehicle to transport us around. Loren was a great guide happy to answer and questions and share her knowledge. The Cathedral is stunning. The hike to the Laguna does involve some steep parts but is so worth it for the views. Great tour well worth the money.
WE LOVED THIS TRIP! Diego (our tour guide) and Omar (Our driver) made this day magical. It was a long day filled with wonderful stories, beautiful landscapes, and stunning human ingenuity. As a large American man, I can say I was not hungry. We had lots of delicious traditional Colombian food throughout the day and were given several options to choose from. Our guide gave us great insights into Colombia's history, politics, culture, and pastimes. The chance to get out of the city and see the beautiful countryside made the drive very pleasant. I never felt that our driver was being unsafe and felt very safe everywhere we went. Both the salt mine and the lake were so much more impressive than I expected from looking at picture before.
This was a great experience! My husband and I really enjoyed learning about the history of the salt mine and how it later was turned into a church. We also appreciated the history and culture of Guatavita Lake. Our guide, Lorena, was extremely attentive to us on the tour and made sure that all our questions were answered, as well as shared their knowledge on the history of the different places we were visiting. Lorena also was very attentive to my dietary needs - ensuring the places we ate at had vegan options for me. There is a lot of time spent in the car because of Bogota traffic and just long distances in general, but the day still went by fast!
The trip was totally amazing not only because my tour guide Diego is super nice, but also the arrangement for the whole trip was great. We ate local food for both breakfast and lunch! Deserves to go!
This was a fantastic all day tour of the Laguna de Guatavita and Salt Cathedral. Eli is a great tour guide and really is passionate about showing folks some important historical areas of Colombia. She was super nice and friendly and very informative. The hike to the laguna isn't that bad at all and is quite beautiful. The Salt cathedral is unlike anything I've seen before and much bigger than I imagined an absolute must do when in Bogota! Highly recommend
What an adventure it was! Picture this: It was my second tour with The True Colombian Experience during my fantastic two-week escapade in Bogota. Guess who was our guide again? None other than Lorena, the fearless explorer who had already shown us the wonders of the Paramo just days before. Our day began bright and early at the Cranky Croc. We gathered there, met our driver, and set off on a thrilling journey to Guatavita. But first, we made a pit stop for breakfast, filling our bellies for the adventures ahead. Guatavita welcomed us with its undeniable charm, nestled by the shimmering Embalse de Tominé. We had some leisure time to explore this quaint town, and believe me, it's as picturesque as they come. Then came the highlight of the day: the Guatavita lagoon. The park was a model of organization and beauty. We embarked on a short but steep hike that led us to not one, not two, but three breathtaking viewpoints. From the third, we began our descent, strolling along a path that felt as easy as a Sunday stroll. Our next destination was Zipaquira, where we were treated to a mouthwatering lunch that was nothing short of divine. But the real gem awaited us—the Salt Cathedral. We ventured into its depths, explored its intricate tunnels, and marveled at the astonishing architecture. Yes, it was a long day, but oh, was it filled with fun and excitement! We owe a huge shoutout to Lorena, our guide extraordinaire, for her unwavering assistance and patience in answering all our curious questions throughout the journey. What a day to remember!
The tour was amazing. Elizabeth and Omar were just amazing and they really enjoy what they do. They have great knowledge and we’re just great tour guides.
Great experience with my guide Eli and our driver Juanes - we were a little delayed at the start due to traffic but made up for it by stopping to eat delicious arepas. After that, the experience was nothing but great - Eli took lovely pictures and gave great explanations, including on the flora around Guatavita. The food and sights were great. Would recommend!
Such a great day trip! Andrea was super nice and kind, and showed us through a beautiful day at Guatavita + around! She guided us through its history, knew exactly what food we would enjoy the most, was fun to talk to, and allowed us to be flexible on what we wanted to see! Felt like spending the day with an old friend while seeing sights outside of Bogota. Would highly recommend!
It was just me on the trip which was really nice. WE headed off promptly with our driver and stopped off at the various sites, a very nice breakfast was included. We had a nice walk up to the lagoon, but I would say to make sure that you take water with you as its very steep. I had water in the van but didn't realise what was involved at the lagoon. The cathedral was nice, very unusual. And we had a nice dinner at a local restaurant. This was a good trip, there was quite a lot of driving involved, but that cannot be helped ! Recommended.
