Great day trip from Bogata with our guide Sergio and driver Andreas - everything was easy for us English only speakers from pick up to drop off and the town/salt mine/ cathedral was worth the effort.

Great little side trip out of the city! The driver came and picked us up in a comfortable van and prior to heading to the cathedral, we quickly perused the surrounding town square and got complementary coffee and tea. The cathedral itself was breathtaking -- with many installations on display without feeling like a daunting museum visit. Our guide Rodrigo was a true pro, effortlessly switching between Portuguese and English to contextualize what we were seeing in an approachable and understandable way. Following the tour, we were taken to a restaurant with delicious local cuisine (our expense) and kitschy decor. Overall, a great time! Bonus props to the driver Andres who went out of his way to pick me up and drop me off in locations far from the city centre and hotels. Only drawback was that the tour ended later than expected due to Bogotá's traffic, so please keep this in mind.
The trip was worth every cent. Perfect weather, great scenery, DRIVER & TOUR GUIDE WERE FUN
As a new arrival in Columbia I decided to take this tour and experience something of great cultural and spiritual significance in Columbia. The Salt Cathedral is a ‘must see. ’ The hours below ground in this amazing architecture and atmosphere are inspiring. Our guide Rodrigo and driver Camino were exactly right for the nine hour adventure: knowledgable, fun, relaxed to be with and so open about life in Colombia. Thank you.
Highly recommend! Our tour guide was Rodrigo; he picked us up 5 mins before our meeting time (which I prefer), and made a great effort to get to know all of us and memorize our names. He was very knowledgeable, well informed, and witty. Be prepared to walk a lot, as touring the Cathedral of Salt took about two hours total. The service at the restaurant he took us to wasn’t that great to be honest— food was good, but the server kept forgetting our orders. It was also really weird they pretty much forced us to take a picture after that bad service; some of us flat out said no. Otherwise, highly recommend! :)
My husband and I did the Salt Cathedral tour with pick up in Bogotá today. It was phenomenal! Our tour guide, Sergio, was knowledgeable and engaging. He had great energy and was very helpful. His English is top notch (Spanish is his native language), and he alternated between both languages with ease to explain information to everyone on his tour. The van picked us up on time and the driver was safe and courteous. I highly recommend this all-day tour.
Sergio (guide) and Camilo (driver) are perfect . Sergio has the stories and mirth, while Camilo is the safest driver. The cathedral is much bigger than anticipated. Excellent.
Had a fantastic time on the tour. The entire trip was incredibly interesting from start to finish. Our tour guide was friendly, welcoming, and highly helpful, ensuring everyone was comfortable throughout the day. The highlight was definitely the underground cathedral. It is absolutely impressive and serves as a unique attraction that everyone in the group could genuinely enjoy. Additionally, the transport was top-notch, as the tour van was completely modern, comfortable, and clean. Highly recommended!
The salt cathedral is an amazing piece of art, there was a mass going on & the song acoustics echo was awesome, do not miss the 4XD museum, lunched in cute little town of Zapiquria, all good except for the traffic
Great day and adventure and Mr Ambasador de Colombia Sergio was great. About half the group spoke english and he did great in explain details etc. Beyond Colombia is lovely!!
Must visit the Salt cathedral when you're visiting Bogota. The place is massive and stunning with a lot to see. Zipaquirá is a nice town. Was able to explore it on this tour. As a solo traveller without a car, this tour saved me a lot of money and time. Sebastian was an amazing guide and explained a lot of things about Bogota and surrounding areas whilst we were going to the salt cathedral and back. I was able to ask him a lot of questions which was very helpful for the rest of the trip. The group itself was great and very social. Timings were perfect.
Excellent tour, our guide Sergio was very knowledgeable, friendly and attentive to the group needs, and our driver Rodolfo was very nice and the vehicle was impeccable and very comfortable.
Sergio and Rodolfo were great to have a guide/driver. They were early picking me up, very friendly and knowledgeable about the site we were seeing. Also gave some good advice about other things to see in Colombia. Would recommend.
Excellent tour. Sebastian was our guide and he was funny and informative. Andres was our driver for the LONG day and he tirelessly took us around the country while making us feel safe and secure. The first stop at the lagoon explained some of the history of the people who first inhabited the region of the salt mine. After circumnavigating the lagoon, there is a brief stop for food. Trust me, buy some. You'll thank me later. Then we stopped in Zipaquira and we chose to walk around the town instead of stopping for a proper lunch. Afterwards, it was on to the salt cathedral.
I think it is a nice tour though I would not say it is wow! The salt cathedral is quite impressive but frankly you can see it in an hour and 30mins. The town was fine but again nothing out of the world. It took quite a while picking up all the people- I wonder if it is easier to gather at a central place. The guide is fine but I would say spoke tad too much but in fairness he was trying to be helpful and energetic.
This was a very nice, stress free way to enjoy visiting the salt cathedral. Our guide was Katy. We were picked up and dropped off from our hotel which was very nice. Our guide gave interesting pieces of history and recommendations of what to do and see once we were there. We even had time to stop for some pictures in the quaint town afterwards.
It takes about an hour to pick people up from different hotels and about another hour to get to the Salt mine and Salt cathedral. 2.5 hours inside is more than enough time to see everything. The late lunch was at a BBQ restaurant with good grilled pork and beef - also some vegetarian choices. There is a small amount of time for sightseeing in Zipaqueria at the end before going back to Bogota.
Sebastian was an awesome tour guide, very patient and informative. I learned a lot on this trip and the ride was very comfortable.
This was my second tour with Beyond Colombia in two days (my walking tour around La Candelaria was that good!). The guide, Sergio, and the driver, Andres, were fantastic. The day started out great with prompt hotel pickup. Sergio has an infectious energy and love of his country (and being a guide). The visit to Lake Guatavita was beautiful and informative. We stopped for lunch before venturing down the Salt Cathedral. It was a long day but so worth it. Very happy that I booked this as a treat to myself.
Our guide Sergio was very knowledgeable, entertaining, and the perfect personality to bring our group together. We had people from Mexico, Brazil, Sri Lanka, India and the US who traveled to the site, toured, had lunch and traveled back together. The enormity of the salt mines is hard to understand and we saw the third level, there were 2 others above us. The salt deposit is a kilometer deep and they've been mining it for hundreds of years. Our driver Nestor kept us safe and navigated the crazy traffic like a pro. All in all, I would recommend this tour to anyone in Bogota for a few days. The countryside on the way to the Salt Cathedral was gorgeous, too.
Rodrigo was excellent! He put the magnificent scenes of the Salt Cathedral into wondetful cultural and historic perspective. Thank you!
the tour lasted almost 11 hours for me instead of 8 hours due to nightmare traffic. the itinerary was disorganized the description of the tour was inaccurate
We had a great driver and guide(sabastian)who took great care of us, and was very knowledgeable, a great day out
Our tour guide Rodrigo was incredibly kind, caring, and attentive to our comfort and needs throughout the day. He shared fascinating insights and had a deep knowledge of the area’s history, showing us all the best spots. The van was comfortable and clean, and the driver Andres was cautious and professional. Although it was almost a full-day trip, it was absolutely worth it. The price i think was a bit on the higher side, but overall, it was a wonderful and memorable experience. I also had the chance to meet some interesting new people, which made the day even more enjoyable.
Absolutely incredible experience! I've been to a few different caves and mines but this is very unique and highly recommended. Camilo and Ramon are a great tour team.
This trip was a last-minute booking. We reached out to the contact and had clarity via Whatsapp. With my questions answered, I felt confident about booking the trip a day prior. We had Sebastian as our tour coordinator and Jesus was our driver. Sebastian in touch for pickup and kept us updated. We were picked up at 8:45 and dropped back around 4:30 at our hotel, which was super convenient. Sebastian has a great sense of humor and shared some exciting tidbits and suggestions as we kicked off our trip.
Impressive and awesome: the underground cathedral inside the salt mines. Beautiful: the town of Zipaquera. What contributed to our wonderful tour was the great service of our guide Sebastian, with driver Jesus. Sebastian is attentive, provides very good support, and makes the trip go smoothly.
Don’t book with this place. Late evening, the night before they reached out to ask me to reschedule my 1:30 pm tour to 7 am. This is because they only had one person sign up. I shared that I had to work in the AM and asked if we could figure something out. They were super slow in responding, even as I offered a reduced tour only to the salt cathedral, and finally they asked me to cancel. Unfortunately, it was within 24 hours so not only would I lose the money paid but, more importantly, they put my plans at a huge risk! They were extremely unapologetic. I asked them to cancel so I’d get a refund, as they failed in their commitment. They simply left me on read. I’ve already escalated to TripAdvisor. I’d highly, highly encourage you to give serious pause to trusting your vacation experience to these unprofessional fools. I’m frankly disgusted by them.
Great Tour, to see the Catedral and Zipaquirá, Alejandro was awesome!!! I would recommend this tour.
Very well-organized tour. Communication pre-trip was smooth. Pickup was on time. Vehicle that drove us was in impeccable condition. Chauffer Edgar was skilled and drove safely. Guide Steven was accommodative, friendly, knowledgeable; without being overly chatty. Overall well-run operation.
It was great. Alejandro and Carmelo did a great job. Definitely recommend. Will return with other family member. Good time.
Great tour! The entire tour was spectacular. We could not have had a better guide and driver. Sebastian and Jesus were very attentive and made the tour better than expected. Would 100% recommend.
The staff were very professional, informed us more than I thought a tour person would. We got to stop for breaks which allows us to learn more about the city and country. I would highly recommend going on tour in the future.
Sebastian and Andres were the best!!!! We enjoyed the tour, the food, the tea/coffee and all the information/history that we learned about Bogota. Thank you again and this tour doesn’t disappoint!!!!!!
Diego was great. He shared so much information and did a great job overall as a guide. Andres was great as well and got us to our destination safe. Pick up and drop off was super easy. They’re a good team and thank you both for an amazing experience.
This cathedral is a marvel. I enjoyed the showcase of the many ways different ways salt was handled to create each sculpture. I also was stunned to see how large it was. If you need a translation, the park will provide a device with recordings about each of the stops in the cathedral or you can scan a QR code and use your phone to listen to details. Be sure to bring a pair of earphones if you want to be able to listen to your device without having it disturb others. It can get a bit confusing underground, but be aware that once you move toward the final video room that everything after that is just snacks and souvenir shops. You will have to retrace your steps to get back to the exit /entrance. The tour was wonderful overall Our guide took care to personalize this tour and make it feel special for the three of us. Each of the folks on our tour had a different country of origin and he pointed out things that were relevant to each one of our cultures. His knowledge and experience in connecting the Colombian culture to each one of ours was very impressive. The stops along the way with accompanying stories made history come to life!
This tour is a neat way to see the area from Bogota out to Zipaquirá. Interesting history attached to an underground shopping experience. The diver Jesus was patient and safe in a busy area and the guide Sebastian was fun and accommodating. Would recommend doing the tour on a weekday as the weekend traffic was heavy.
Sebastian was a great tour guide sharing information along the entire journey and making sure we were comfortable and enjoying ourselves. The only thing I would suggest is that the information about the tour is changed to say 'audio guide provided' rather than 'tour guide ' as once at the Salt Cathedral you are left on your own to do the tour.
Hiiigggggghly recommend! Everyone said it was a must do and I didn't further investigate, but now I understand. It's truly unique! The tour was very well taken care of by Johan and the driver, with a super friendly guide that knew answers to all our questions and really kept the good spirits going. I felt right at home and cared for.
We were only 2 on the tour so we had a personalized tour. Pierre our driver was very nice and very informative. We were given as much time as we needed at the Cathedral so that is good. I'm very happy overall.
Excellent tour with knowledgable and helpful guide Sebastian. Salt Cathedral is an extraordinary experience and the guided walk round the town was great too. Good lunch as well!!
Great Tour with Johan, I Highlight him. Je is knowledgeable, well organized. Je introduced the country, culture and the history really well.
We had an amazing experience at Zipaquira visiting the town with our guide Sergio and then later the Salt Cathedral. Amazing and unique!
This is a beautiful excursion. If you go with an audio guide, skip the Stations of the Cross and head down to the theater to be sure you get the schedule for the movie showing the mine, and on to the main chapel to see the visual presentation. I waisted too much time at the Stations and arrived wrong time at both sights. I had a wonderful guide, Stephen, who had tried to explain this to me, took me on a very nice tour of the town, to a wonderful restaurant and added a great deal of insight to the experience. Thank you, Stephen.
The tour was great!! I had Karen as a tour guide and she made my time and experience so much better at Colombia. She is thoughtful, very informative, and kind! She also helped me communicating with the office when I was having difficulty. I appreciate everything Karen❣️ The only down point was the office. They are very slow at responding and sometimes even ignores you. If you have tight plan, this tour is 8+ hours worth, not 7 hours as how it’s written. Now I see they updated the duration to 9 hours after I sent them a complaint. Anyways office could totally ignore you so keep that in mind.
Hector was amazing! Great storyteller and super informative! Highly recommend this tour. Learned a lot about the story of Colombia
Excellent tour, guide Camilo Andrés Rabelli took great care of us, knows a lot, and made us have a fantastic experience, highly recommended.
Milena and Jefferson were the best hosts. You can tell the passion and dedication they put into these tours and we had a wonderful time. Everything was super entertaining, and the group was quite dynamic and fun. 10/10 ask for Milena! One single suggestion for the team in charge, perhaps it is something you can include in the Viator confirmations: It would be good to know that we will receive the driver's information and pickup time via WhatsApp the night before the excursion. This provides security to the person booking and avoids moments of uncertainty.
Excellent tour organization, punctual pick up. Driver Jesus Pina and guide Milli Milena were perfect. Excellent English and Spanish understandable for an Italian. Recommended
Very good experience. The guide was very kind.
