Private Salt Cathedral Tour From Bogota: Tickets, Guide 6hr

We were in Bogota for a long 10 hour layover. We had never been to Colombia and the guide service made us feel at ease. He picked us promptly and we headed out to the salt cathedral. On the trip out there, the conversation was engaging and focused on the incredible history of Colombia. We never tired of the knowledge he had!! We had a delicious lunch prior to our private tour of the cathedral. He allowed us to take our time, visit the shops, ask questions and stand in awe of it all. We had time before heading back to the airport to stroll the village streets and pop into some local shops. The drive back was smooth as he continued to share bits of information of sites we passed. We’ve been on several long layover tours and this was hands down the best. From the communication prior to the trip down to getting us back to the airport with plenty of time to go back through security lines, we couldn’t recommend this service enough. We will be back for sure!

Bogota was our first stop after our international arrival for our first trip to Colombia. We are a family of 3 traveling with our 6 yr old son and can’t thank Luis and his brother, Alejandro, enough for such family friendly experiences all around - breaks for our son to have a snack (and for parents to have coffee), extra comfortable vehicle, lots of engaging history, and just great all around personalities! Our son is still asking about visiting Luis, again! Win for our family.

This tour company is a great small local business, which makes our experience very private and warm! Our guide is very friendly that greet the whole family with care! We get picked up by a very nice SUV, drive is about 1.5 hour to the Cathedral and there has been a local guide waiting there to give us a great in depth tour for the attraction. You just can’t visit this without the guide, so much information to learn there! The tour is very flexible as well. No rush anywhere. We spent about 10 min in the small town next to the cathedral before heading back and people can choose to stay there longer before heading back.

We hired Luis Filipe twice once for an airport pickup and the second time to take us to the salt cathedral. Both experiences were first rate.

Our tour group included my retired parents, my teenage son, and me. Luis Felipe, who drove us to the Salt Cathedral and also showed us around the town of Zipaquira, was incredibly knowledgeable about all things Colombian and very friendly. Andreas, who took us on the tour of the Salt Cathedral, was also very kind and had a deep understanding of all aspects of the cathedral. Both took great care to ensure we all had a wonderful day, and our whole group agreed it was our favorite day in Colombia.

Luis was a fantastic guide. He picked us up from our hotel and shared his knowledge whilst we drove to the Salt Cathedral. Luis then guided us around the Cathedral and used his experience to avoid the crowd which meant we had a more private tour. It was a great day topped off by a visit to Andres Carne de Res which Luis organised for us. Would recommend!

Our tour with Luis was the best! He made us feel like family that was visiting his hometown. Luis passion for all things Colombia shines through. At the cathedral he handed us to Andres who was an expert on the cathedral and the surrounding area. You could spend hours upon hours here. So much to see and enjoy. We appreciated the personal tour learning about the sculptors and the meaning and significance of the cross and how it changed in each station. Stop and enjoy a cup of coffee too.

He was terrific discussing history with us and putting together pieces from other tours. We love to ask questions. His car and driving were superb especially given the traffic in Bogota. My friend and I had some "challenges" completely of our own making and he helped us solve them with a smile and total understanding. The guide he planned for us at the Salt Cathedral was perfect. The Salt Cathedral is really amazing and so unique. A must if you are in Bogota. Luis Felipe arranged for us to go to dinner at Andres Carnes on the way back to Bogota. What a fun place. The food and drinks were good too. Overall, it was a terrific day and really appreciated Luis Felipe taking care of us.

Luis did a great job of adjusting time for my 82 year old mother, who could not walk as quickly or navigate the Salt Cathedral. Luis also talked about Colombian culture and food. His restaurant recommendations were great with both traditional Colombian foods and a a fusion of South American foods.

What an incredible experience! The tour was absolutely incredible from the moment Luis Felipe picked us up at the hotel. He is an amazing guide, gave us a very interesting history of Colombia, Bogotá and of the place we were going to visit. He is a very nice and knowledgeable guy. We traveled in family, our group was 4 people, including our two kids. For our first time in Columbia we decided play everything safe, so we made this particular tour with a guide. The tour was fantastic and our guide, Johan was very patient and a wealth of knowledge. We had plenty of time to walk the tunnels inside the mine. After we went to the Zipaquira town. We had such a great experience! My 9 years old son said that day was the best part of the trip. We are so grateful to Johan, he was a such a nice guide.

I highly recommend Bogota Drive Guide Service tours! We used their service for two days, a City Tour of Bogota and a tour of te Salt Cathedral of Ziaquira. They went above and beyond in their service! Luis was prompt in all communications while setting up our tours. He adjusted his regular tour to show us the National Museum instead of the Gold Museum since we planned to tour it the day prior. (Don't miss the Gold Museum!) Most importantly, he went above and beyond to locate a wheelchair rental for my aging father that would not have endured the walking required for the tour. Luis was prompt picking us up. He arranged a private tour guide at the National Museum and at the Salt Cathedral. Both provided detailed information about their respective attractions. Through out both days, perhaps because we asked lots of questions, Luis provided wonderful perspective on his Country's history, from the original inhabitants highly skilled in metallurgy, through the Spanish invasion, and the fight for independence from Spain led by Simon Bolivar. We saw the main Plaza where Bolivar fought and won, and where Pope Francis visited Columbia in 2017. He most impressed when he spoke of Columbia's recent history as it has moved past the violence of the 80's and 90's. Columbia has been building its economy and security since. He spoke of Columbian's love of soccer, their Catholic faith, and other aspects of their culture. The tour of Mount Monserrate, Museo Santa Clara, Casa de Narino, and Botero's artwork all impressed. The view from Mt. Monserrate was spectacular. Throughout our tour he spoke of various parts of Bogota and Columbia's history. Through the day he was knowledgeable, patient, helpful with my dad, and professional. He really impressed. The following day he collected us for the Salt Cathedral tour. It really impressed, and he and the Salt Cathedral guide took turns pushing my father for the long trek through the mine. We followed with an amazing meal at Andres Chia. Luis then took us back to our hotel to collect our bags. His brother met us at the hotel to collect the wheelchair so our bags would fit. He then drove us to the airport, and walked us in to the correct counter and helped set up a wheelchair transport for our transfer in Sao Paulo Brazil. Without his help we would have missed our connecting flight. I highly recommend Luis and his brother Alejandro. They go above and beyond!

Luis Felipe was attentive and very passionate about his country. He openly discussed the issues facing Colombia and answered our historical and cultural questions. After spending a day and a half touring Bogata and the Salt Cathedral, we came away appreciating his professional skills in hospitality.

The tour was fantastic. I got picked up at the hostel and was brought to the Salt Cathedral in Zipaquirá. This is a private tour and that day there was only two of us. The ride was beautiful as the surroundings of Bogotá are stunning and we got a nice presentation of Colombian music on the way. After about 90 minutes we arrived and were greeted by our guide, Martha, who is a mine worker herself and speaks Spanish and English. Entrance to the mine was included and you’re allowed to stay all the time you want, so we ended up staying all morning till lunch. Martha told us everything about regional history, the mining, the chapels and tunnels and how the mine became a Roman Catholic Church built 200m underground. The architecture and design are unique and very impressive. Coffee is delicious down there, as well (naturally). In the end, we had a little walk through the beautiful town of Zipaquirá and grabbed a bite to eat before heading back. If you’re in Bogotá and got half a day to spare, this tour comes highly recommended. The organisation was flawless, I enjoyed myself a lot and the place is well worth a trip.

We were in a group of three friends. Our guide was Mr. Luis Felipe. I was quite satisfied from the beginning with the company’s attention. As soon as I bought the ride, they got in touch, which gave a lot of security. On the day of the tour, the guide was extremely punctual, careful and attentive. Clean car, driven calmly. Very careful. The tickets were already bought which saved us time. During the tour of the cathedral he drew attention to the most interesting points, took beautiful photos and explained the history and the details of this amazing place! The walk through the squares of the city is also well worth it. We like everything! Super indicated!

We went in July 2025, my family with children 20 and 22 years old. Excellent Service. We made the transfers airport/hotel, hotel/airport and the guided tour to the Sal Cathedral. Luis Felipe picked us up at the hotel and drove us to the Salt Cathedral. He explained everything very precisely and no question went unanswered. He knew everything about the country and people. We could also take our time. He did not push, so instead of the 5 hours 6 we were on the road. It was huge fun and you can highly recommend him and his brother.
