Fun and educational. A look into the real Bogota through both shopping for food in a local market and cooking in a home. Enlightening, fun and tasty. A rare opportunity. Well worth it and highly recommended.
Definitely a five star experience. We met at the market to buy for ingredients and then prepared two appetizers and one main course. I’ve taken similar classes all over the world, and this was one of my favorites. Liz is a joy to be around and full of knowledge regarding cooking. She went above and beyond the tour and accompanied me to a local supermarket to buy dried herbs so I could replicate Ajiaco back in the US. I can’t thank you enough Liz for the wonderful experience!
Overall, the cooking class was good, and Liz was absolutely wonderful. Liz asked us if we could move our class time from 9 AM to 3 PM and we agreed. Unfortunately, our Uber driver took us to the wrong location so we were 30 minutes late meeting at the market. By that time, the market was getting ready to close. They didn't have all the ingredients that we needed for our selected dishes we were going to learn to cook, so we made a last-minute change in menu. It also was a bit of a surprise that the cost of the ingredients weren't included in the price of the class. It wasn't a huge deal since the ingredients only cost probably $25 USD but we bought more ingredients than we needed for the recipes (i.e., bag of flour that we used a 1/3, etc) The recipes we made were full recipes that made enough for about 6 to 8 people with leftover uncooked ingredients. WE wish there had been to-go boxes for the leftovers of food and ingredients that we had bought so we would have been able to share the delicious food with our friends later that night. We are still looking forward to receiving the recipes from Liz.
Loved this immersive experience from selecting the dishes I wanted to make, to shopping for the ingredients at the local market to then graciously being welcomed into her apartment to make the food. Very calm experience, cooking to whatever music we wanted, learning new techniques I hadn’t known for the hogao sauce for the patacones & making the patacones themselves. The food we made from vegan ajiaco con tofu to arepas to patacones, this was the best food I had in Colombia and glad to know how to make myself. Thank you so much Liz for offering this experience!
This for me was the absolute highlight to my 2 month travel throughout Colombia. From walking through the markets with Liz, picking out what we need to being in her incredible home / kitchen was just such a surreal experience. Liz you are also such a fantastic cook. WOW. Thank you again for looking after me. Whether you are solo like me or in a big group, this could not suit anyone better. Thanks again Liz
Liz is very friendly and helpful instructor. We began with a tour of the market where we bought the ingredients. You get to choose 2 appetizers and one main. The food was delicious.
Liz was an amazing host. From the moment we met at the market, she helped my friend and me figure out what ingredients we needed. Then, when it came time to cook, Liz explained everything we had to do, and we had a wonderful time chatting and cooking, just like friends do. Thank you so much, Liz, for your kindness and willingness to help, as well as for sharing your cooking knowledge and techniques with us.
Liz is a kind soul who is a window into traditional Colombian cuisine and modern Colombian society. After learning from Liz and tasting her family recipes, my family enjoyed her arepas, hogao, and patacones more than any restaurant or hotel we experienced. She proudly shared her culinary heritage in a way that one’s aunt or mom may teach rather than a formal culinary class. We loved it. We also enjoyed the procurement of local ingredients at the local market (note: the participant pays—our grocery bill was about $15).
The cooking class with Lizeth was one of the highlights of my stay in Bogotá. She is incredibly kind and welcoming. We did the grocery shopping together, and she carefully walked me through each ingredient and step of the cooking process, sharing helpful tips along the way. She’s such a lovely person!! I would absolutely do it again on my next visit to Bogotá. Truly the best! 🥰
This was everything we wanted it to be. Lizeth was so welcoming and personable and taught us everything we needed to know. She clearly loves her job and it showed. We enjoyed spending time with her creating a great meal. If you want an authentic Colombian experience you won’t soon forget do not hesitate to sign up and do this. We had about 36 hours in Bogota and would do this again every time.
I’ve done several cooking classes in various countries and this one was at the top of my experiences. We shopped for the ingredients together then went to the teacher’s home to do the cooking. Her home was very clean and she had all the cooking utensils and pots to make it easy. And the food was delicious. I would highly recommend this class if you want to learn how to cook Columbia food.
The cooking class with Liz was an amazing experience. Liz is a fun and lovely person, so the time flew by. She knew everybody at the market, explained all the fruit we didn't know and taught us little tricks you cannot know from reading a recipe. She also gave us tipps for the city which we really appreciated. As i'm a vegetarian, i was happy to be able to choose the menu in advance. The food was awesome and so colorful, we'll be sure to repeat it at home. Thank you Liz :)
My friend and I took a cooking class with Liz, starting with a visit to the local market to pick out fresh ingredients before heading to her home. She was incredibly hospitable and gracious—it truly felt like being welcomed into a friend’s house for lunch. The food was absolutely delicious, inspired by her grandmother’s recipes, and honestly one of the best meals I’ve ever had.
Liz was great! Lots of fun. In addition to your meal ingredients, make sure to stop for a bottle of wine to drink while you cook and eat!
From start to finish, Liz’s cooking class and market tour was a fantastic experience. Liz is a warm, intuitive hostess who immediately made me feel welcome. Our adventure began at Plaza de Mercado La Perseverancia—a vibrant, must-see market that’s easy to reach from anywhere in Bogota. I enjoyed it so much, I went back the next day just to try more food! Shopping for fresh ingredients with Liz was a highlight. She knows everyone at the market and made the whole process fun and educational. Even as an experienced home cook, I learned so much from her—she shared new techniques and ways to bring out the best in every ingredient. I chose to make Encocado de camarón, Aborrajados, and Ceviche vegetal. Each dish was delicious, and Liz guided me through every step, sharing stories and tips along the way. It truly felt like cooking with a good friend. I’ve already made the ceviche again at home! Beyond the cooking, Liz offered a local’s perspective that made the afternoon even more special. I left feeling inspired and grateful for the experience. I can’t wait to return and take another class with her. I highly recommend this class to anyone visiting Bogota—it was a pleasure and a blessing!
We had a very fun time cooking authentic Colombian food with Liz. We went to the open air market to buy the ingredients from local vendors-fruit, meat, and rice. Then we had a short walk to her apartment where we prepped and cooked a delicious meal. Liz has lots of options, and we chose empanadas, ceviche, and arroz Atollado, a yummy rice dish with beef, pork and vegetables. Everything was great, and it was a fun afternoon cooking and hanging out. It was like having dinner with a friend. I highly recommend this as a unique travel experience.
We had an absolutely fantastic experience at Liz’s cooking class! From beginning to end, everything was perfect. We started by shopping for fresh ingredients at the local market, which made the whole experience feel incredibly authentic and fun. Cooking in Liz’s own kitchen was such a special touch—she’s so warm and sweet, and her perfect English made everything easy to follow. It truly felt like cooking with a good friend. The timing of the class was spot-on and never felt rushed. Learning to shop for, prepare, and enjoy authentic Colombian dishes was unforgettable. I honestly can’t say enough positive things to describe how wonderful this experience was. I highly recommend this tour to anyone looking for a genuine and memorable taste of Colombia!
If you want to see what’s like to live in Bogota, this is a perfect experience. As soon as I signed up on this experience, Liz contacted me with huge menu. She told me to pick two from appetizers and one from the main dish list. This is a private tour, and you get to pick what to cook and eat. Her constant communications until we met at a market on the morning of the class made me feel assured about this experience. Shopping at a market for vegetables, fruits and meats were so much fun. She made sure we were not overpaying for any ingredients. (Ingredients cost are not included, so bring some cash to pay). Cooking with Liz was fun and educational. I can’t wait to receive recipes from her, and I look forward to recreating Columbian dishes at home
As soon as I signed up for this tour, the owner/operator Liz contacted me via WhatsApp. She presented a list of dishes we can cook. Since you get to pick, it really caters towards so many different clients. Constant communication from Liz made me feel assured. We met at a market. Shopping ingredients at a market was so much fun. I felt like I live here and got to enjoy “local” experience. Once we walked her place, we cooked three different dishes. She only uses fresh ingredients. I just loved everything we cooked together. I highly recommend if you want “local” experience.
First, you're expected to buy your own ingredients, which is surprising considering the price (nearly half a million pesos). That would’ve been fine if the experience actually happened. I showed up to the meeting point, texted the operator, and waited, no response, no signs of anyone. I walked the area and waited for over 30 minutes. Still nothing. I eventually left and contacted support, who also couldn’t reach the operator. This wasn’t just poor service it felt like a complete no show. I wasted time, money, and my last day in the country on something that didn’t happen. Spend your money elsewhere. You're better off tossing it in the trash than booking this.
While Liz was kind and patient, the experience was far from what I expected from a food tour and cooking class. You're required to buy all the ingredients yourself, which not only feels like a quick grocery run rather than a guided tour, it also significantly increases the overall cost. Instead of learning to cook hands-on, you mostly just watch her prepare the food, with minimal participation or instruction. There was no real hosting, no drinks, no snacks, and nothing to make the experience feel welcoming. To make things worse, she didn’t even have containers so we could take the food with us. I had to insist on going out and buying some myself, otherwise the food I paid for would have stayed with her. All in all, this felt more like paying to watch someone else cook in their kitchen than joining a proper food tour or cooking class. I left feeling disappointed and a bit scammed. Definitely not worth the price, and I wouldn’t recommend it to others.
This was the most amazing cooking experience! I did this with my 2 young teen daughters. Liz contacted us in advance to see what we wanted to cook. She took us through the market, cooked delicious food and we all had a blast. She is not only a great cook, great at teaching cooking technique, and a gracious host in her home, but she is also very fun. My daughters said give her a 6 out of 5 stars because it was that great of an experience.
Lizeth was such a lovely host. Really personable and easy to talk to. I had a great time taking this class. I would definitely recommend it to others.
Very nice time. Liz was responsive and patient.. helped us select the best food and guided us in cooking a wonderful meal.
I really enjoyed the afternoon cooking class. Shopping at the market in La Preservancia was a real highlight, and Liz was a great, friendly host. Came away, knowing how to cook several delicious Colombian dishes.
6:16 Private Colombian Cooking Cl... Bogota, Colombia Write your review Liz was very outgoing and enthusiastic about her passion for cooking. She described the ingredients and the cooking process in detail and allowed us to be interactive all within her own home kitchen. Liz provided us with an excellent cooking experience. We highly recommend this cooking experience..
We had a fun time making Colombian food with Liz. She walked us through all the processes and was very good. We also learnt about different foods from Colombia. I would definitely recommend this class
Liz was very knowledgeable, experienced, friendly and most importantly passionate about food. She encouraged our participation, explained the process and taught us "how to" through out the preparation. Our experience began in a bustling local market filled with fresh fruits, vegetables and meats. Liz explained how to select only the ripe ingredients to enhance the flavors of our dishes. We prepared our meal (ceviche, arapes, shrimp and rice) in her apartment's small, but very functional kitchen. Working as a team we finished each dish in proper succession so our meal was served fresh, warm, and delightfully tasteful. All in all it was a wonderful experience that I would highly recommend.
It was a fantastic cooking class! We went to the market and got to see all the different products they sell there. The food we prepared was delicious and so simple that we can definitely reproduce it. The atmosphere was warm and welcoming like cooking with friends. And we learned some very useful tricks. I would 100 percent recommend the class
We learned how to make empanadas and aborrajados from a pro! First we went to a small market to get our ingredients and then we were off to her kitchen to make typical Colombian food. Liz was so much fun, easy going and very knowledgeable. We really enjoyed her cooking class, the food was delicious and the whole experience was so organic we highly recommend any or all of her cooking classes, you will be wonderfully satisfied and happy when you leave! Buon Appetito!
I never anticipated that I could have such a fun experience. Liz is a wonderful host, so much fun to chat with and enjoy interesting discussions. She is also a great cook and teacher. I loved my lesson.
This was a fantastic experience! Liz is very kind, lively and experienced. She makes you feel very welcome and relaxed. Weather you love to cook or not this is a really great experience to get a greater understanding of Colombian cuisine. Loved walking through the market and hand picking your groceries to being in the kitchen preparing the ingredients. You not only leave feeling full to the brim in your stomach but in your heart also. It’s a must do.
Super fun experience Liz was an incredible teacher as well as super helpful with everything else one could think of to do i bogota. However more than anything it was a very fun class
Very nice cooking class, the market was a special experience, Liz is so nice and the food we cooked was traditional and lovely!
Absolutely amazing experience! Liz was so friendly and knowledgeable. She let us pick the menu and then took us to the market to get all fresh ingredients at the best price. We were able to participate in everything with Liz’s encouragement. Can not say enough about how much Liz was a superstar chef while answering all our questions. Highly recommend!!
Liz opens her home to connect people to the culture and love of Colombian food. The tour starts with you picking three Colombian dishes to make and shopping for the ingredients at the local market (of which you are responsible for paying for). The food I bought at the market cost about $8 USD which could have easily fed two or three people! Liz has a way of making the ingredients go very far. Her home and kitchen were very welcoming. She was very detailed in showing techniques and answered all my questions of the food and culture of Colombia. She was easy to communicate with in both Spanish and English. This private and highly personalize experience is worth the time to introduce you to a deeper understanding of Colombian culture.
We had such an amazing time cooking with Liz in her kitchen! It was a lot of fun to go through the market with her, she taught us a lot about different Colombian fruits and veggies we had never seen before. The whole cooking experience was enjoyable from start to finish, and the food tasted incredible 🙌🏼 She catered well for my friend who is vegetarian. We made ajiaco, mango ceviche with arepas and platanos bocadillo for desert 😋 Highly recommend for an authentic Colombian cooking experience!
This was the best!!!! The hosts were incredible and I had an amazing time!!!! I learned alot about cooking Colombian food and it was so delicious! I need to go on a diet now. They went way above and beyond in helping in any way they could! Amazing experience!!!!
This cooking class was an amazing experience. Liz is an incredibly friendly, thoughtful and enthusiastic guide. Starting the class with a tour of a local food market to buy ingredients was great, as we were able to ask questions about local foods and pick ingredients we wanted to include. The food we prepared with Liz was delicious and her guidance through the cooking was great. For a really enjoyable and authentic experience of Colombian cuisine, I would highly recommend!
This tour with Liz was amazing. She was so knowledgeable about the local food and the markets. We made 4 amazing dishes which were all very delicious and vegetarian friendly upon request. Liz was very hospitable and made us very very relaxed and at home. An excellent way to spend your day in Bogotá.
I want to thank you once again for this professional cooking experience that was, at the same time, so welcoming. From the beginning, there was a very natural connection with Liz, and everything was very harmonious. First, we went together to the market, personally bought all the ingredients, and even negotiated a bit, which made the experience even more authentic. Then we cooked in her apartment and enjoyed truly delicious dishes. What I liked the most was the personal touch: knowing that many of the recipes come from her grandmother made the course a special, close, and very authentic experience. I would definitely recommend this course to anyone who wants to experience more than just a simple cooking class.
The experience begins with a visit to the La Perseverancia market alongside Liz, who showed me this authentic place, full of life and charm. Among the colors, aromas, and warmth of the vendors, I was able to immediately immerse myself in Colombian culture. While we were buying the necessary ingredients for the recipes I had previously chosen, Liz explained to me the different fruits, vegetables, and typical products of the country, sharing many anecdotes and very interesting facts. Afterward, we went to her house, where the cooking class began. Liz had me participate in every step of the preparation with great patience, excellent teaching skills, and always with a big smile. In addition to teaching me the recipes, she shared many stories about Colombia, its culture, and its traditions, and gave me excellent recommendations about places to visit, both in Bogotá and in other regions of the country. The class ends with a delicious lunch around the dishes we prepared together, in a warm and very pleasant atmosphere. More than just a simple cooking class, it was a true immersion in Colombian culture. I recommend this experience without hesitation to anyone who wants to discover the country from an authentic perspective. Thank you so much, Liz, for your kindness, generosity, enthusiasm, and passion! I take away delicious recipes, unforgettable memories, and a much deeper knowledge of Colombia.
Liz, has been the best hostess with her warmth, simplicity and her professional way of explaining each of the recipes making cooking class intuitive and practical. The best empanadas in Colombia I have prepared with it and also tasted. The location of the class is ideal close to everything. The visit to the perseverance market has been a plus and see first hand the purchase of raw material for the class. I will certainly return for another class in the future. The price-quality ratio is superior since everything you prepare with Liz you can eat. Finally, the communication of the event has been constant and clear. My heartfelt congratulations to Liz for this wonderful experience at Bogota.
It was really amazing. No matter if you're Colombian, the plan is great. Liz a genius and a great hostess. I recommend them 100%
We met Liz at the market, to buy the ingredients for the chosen dishes. She introduced us to the market, made us discover the vegetables and fruits of the region, always with a smile! We then went to cook at her place where she took the time to teach us her cooking style, to talk to us about Bogota, Colombian culture. Always with a smile, against a background of Latin music. The ready meals were delicious. Great experience! Liz is adorable, we laughed, learned, ate well it was great! I highly recommend!
A magnificent experience. We shopped at the Perseverance market and Liz explained a lot of things about typical Colombian foods. Then we cook three dishes. Very good explanations and very good cook. We talked for a long time about Colombian and Spanish cuisine. Highly recommended.
The day with Liz was very nice: from the beginning at the market, to the kitchen, to the actual meal. Although we had just met, it was like spending an afternoon with a long-time friend. A great way to spend an alternative day and experience the everyday life of Bogotá.
Dive into the world of Colombian cuisine with the best chef of bogota. Great experience to go to the market together. And super fun to learn more about Colombia while cooking. Best activity of the holiday and great recipes as a souvenir.
We spent four beautiful hours. First the market tour, where Liz is welcome and jokes with everyone. We did the necessary shopping to prepare the dishes that we had chosen from the many proposed. Liz explained the recipes to us and the three of us got to work. So much good conversation while we were cooking, and then everyone at the table. Very good dishes. All seasoned with Liz's smiles and sympathy. Highly recommended!
