This is a great day out in the countryside around Bogotá. Not only will you get up close and see the dramatically beautiful La Chorrera and Chiflon waterfalls but you’ll also see a part of rural Colombia, and its vibrant wildlife conveniently close to Bogotá. Brian, our excellent tour guide, was highly knowledgeable not just about the area, but of Colombia more widely. He picked us up on time and arranged our day superbly. We recommend the lunch, which we were ready for by the end of our hike. We’d also recommend to be ready for the Bogotá rain and have good, comfortable footwear some paths may be a little slippery. There are one or two sections of the trail that are steep so expect some parts to be a little more challenging than others, but Brian was patient and we never felt we were being rushed. If you’re staying in Bogotá and want to see the area around it, and the beautiful La Chorrera and Chiflon waterfalls, we’d recommend it.

Itinerary
Just a short drive from Bogotá, and located in the forest of the Andes mountains, the highest waterfall in Colombia lies waiting: La Chorrera de Choachí featuring waterfalls, caves and mesmerizing views. This journey to the “Mountains of the Moon” will start when one of our guides and a driver pick you up in your hotel and then head to Choachí, to the entrance of the park. Once there, we’ll visit its first, smaller waterfall, El Chiflón. As we advance, learn of the park’s history, the local ecosystem, and recent challenges Explore the park’s other curiosities like its “monkey stones”, and the peculiarities of these cloud forests. Deeper inside the park, you’ll find La Chorrera: a tiered or stepped 590 meters tall waterfall. This one you can’t rappel down, but you can marvel at! Take in the mighty sight and rest your feet before taking the trail back out of the park. Finally, you’ll be able to join in with some of the locals for a fantastic local lunch (if chosen) before heading back to Bogotá.

Awesome experience! Camilo was super knowledgeable, punctual, and friendly! We felt super safe as well. The hike itself was beautiful, we got a little rained on but that’s Bogota. It did not take away from the experience at all. Some of the areas with steeper climbs were more challenging because of the altitude, but totally doable.
Excellent hike with jorge. 6km of undulating paths which were a bit slippy. Big stick definitely helped me. Amazing waterfalls, scenery and birdlife. Lunch was lovely. One of the best short hikes I’ve done
Jorge was a fabulous guide for this hike. It's not too difficult but is undulating, so if you're a regular hiker you'll be fine. Booking this tour takes the hassle out of transportation and gives you an opportunity learn more about Colombia from a local.
I had an absolutely amazing experience on my La Chorrera tour! From start to finish, everything was wonderful. I was picked up directly from my hotel, which made the experience so convenient, and I had a private tour with Myra as my guide. Myra was absolutely phenomenal! She was incredibly knowledgeable about Colombia and shared so much interesting information throughout the day. She was also so patient and attentive, always checking in on me with her sweet “¿Cómo vamos?” to make sure I was doing okay during the hike. The hike itself was challenging but absolutely beautiful, and reaching La Chorrera was so rewarding. The scenery along the way was breathtaking, and the traditional Colombian food afterward was really good and the perfect way to finish the day. I’m honestly so happy I made the decision to do this tour. Myra made the experience even more special, and I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone visiting Bogotá who wants to experience Colombia’s incredible nature and countryside. Thank you, Myra, for such a wonderful and memorable day!
Had a great time! Our guide, Ricardo, was super sweet and very informative, I really enjoyed chatting with him I would consider this a medium hike, leaning towards hard when it's wet or raining. Take your time and plenty of breaks, especially if you're not used to walking at high altitudes (I live on sea level, so my heart felt like it was beating out of my chest!) Beautiful views, and the trek felt very rewarding. Would not recommend to anyone with heart or breathing issues,
Overall, a really great experience! It was definitely well worth the price! I could've spent more time in the park or with the Guide, but I wanted to do a quick experience, and we still didn't miss a thing. The Guide ALFACA was extremely knowledgeable and super helpful with everything. 10 out of 10 will recommend.
Diego was our private tour guide. He was amazing! He shared lots of information about Bogota and the surrounding area. He was very patient with us during the hike. We were slow hikers and stopped many times to take photos. The lunch was delicious. The views were amazing and the hike was peaceful. We only saw about a dozen people (we went on a Wednesday). I would recommend this tour for those that enjoy the great outdoors and want a moderate challenge. Definitely bring some good shoes.
Amazing experience! Alex was very knowledgeable and great vibes all around! Highly recommend! Waterfalls were incomparable.
My guide, Camilo, was wonderful. He communicated with me via WhatsApp and arrived on time. He was very knowledgeable about the history of Columbia. We hiked up to the waterfalls, while he explained how the ecosystem works. Lunch was fresh, local and delicious. I would highly recommend you include lunch. Overall 10/10. An absolutely beautiful part of the world.
Had a great time hiking La Chorrera, even in the rain! Luis made sure I was okay and comfortable with the pace/speed at all times and providing information thought the hike and drives. Would really recommend to see some nature if you have the time whilst in Bogotá.
The tour was great, Camilo was an excellent tour guide. He was friendly and gave us plenty of facts and explanations throughout the tour. We had a great day!
Jorge was an amazing guide who was very knowledgeable of the areas history and the 6 diverse natural regions of Colombia. The hike is definitely an intermediate level (various steep trails throughout); however, we had anticipated this based on the description and other reviews. I also recommend adding in the lunch (our option) which is locally sourced and delicious! The time was as described, we left our hotel at 8am and returned at 3pm. We went during the week and during the rainy season, so there were no crowds for us. Highly recommend this trip if you enjoy viewing the Colombian countryside, waterfalls, hiking, and learning more about the area!
Camilo Ospina is a great guide. He explained everything in detail and was always very helpful and friendly
This tour was one of the best experiences of my life. Our guide was outstanding. The scenery was beautiful and the waterfalls were jaw-dropping. Lunch was perfectly Colombian and so delicious. I highly recommend this tour. However being a somewhat experienced hiker is recommended.
It was an awesome day, we had the best guide his name was Diego. He meet us at our hotel and spoke very good English. Took us the La Chorrera water falls . He took his time with us for it is a very difficult hike but well worth it . Plus we had a wonderful lunch before we left . I highly recommend this trip .
I had a great tour with guide Alexander, which was very incredible and interesting experience! The tour was all smooth, I find out a lot of information about Columbian history and this region. In addition, we were lucky enough to spot some rare birds.
One of the absolute best things you can do while visiting Colombia. The mountains and waterfalls are absolutely spectacular. One of the most beautiful drives I’ve ever been on as well. Kata was an incredible guide.
We had an amazing experience on the La Chorrera Hike Tour in Bogotá, and we can’t recommend it enough. The tour was beautifully planned, well organized, and truly showcased the natural beauty of the area. The hike itself was stunning and difficult while still being rewarding. Jorge was an exceptional guide—kind, patient, and incredibly knowledgeable. He shared fascinating information along the way and made the experience both educational and enjoyable. His passion for the region and attentiveness to the group really stood out. This was one of the highlights of our time in Colombia. If you’re considering La Chorrera, do yourself a favor and book this tour—especially with Jorge! Gran Colombia tours provided excellent communication.
Myself and a friend had a great experience hiking with Jorge and being picked up by a private driver. The drive itself was about an hour and half to the bottom of a gravel road in beautiful farmland. It was super cloudy driving up but we luckily had mostly clear conditions hiking. The hike was about two hours and intermediate difficulty. Jorge had great English, led us at a good pace despite the high altitude, and was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna. The hike was very beautiful. We booked With Lunch which was served at the restaurant at the park entrance. The beef was delicious. It’s a really great out and back hike to see El Chifon and the base of La Chorrea. Our guide and driver gave us a great experience. We were even able to briefly visit Santuario de Guadalupe on the way back. Would definitely recommend.
Had a great tour guide that was very informative and explained many things and answered all my questions. Highly recommended but it can be a tough hike with the elevation so be warned but worth the views
I wanted to share my feedback regarding the tour. It was an excellent experience from start to finish. Jose was extremely helpful, professional, and clearly passionate about his work. His knowledge and enthusiasm made the tour engaging, informative, and enjoyable. He took the time to explain everything clearly and ensured I felt comfortable throughout the experience. I truly appreciated his guidance and dedication, which made the visit memorable. Thank you for organizing such a well-planned tour. I would gladly recommend this experience to others and look forward to future opportunities with confidence and enthusiasm.
Jorge was a great guide. This is a more strenuous hike than we were expecting but ever so beautiful. I would say definitely go for lunch as that was also amazing, green banana pancake. Views were so awesome. Thank you to Dario our taxi driver, who navigated the narrow roads.
What a great trip! I would recommend it to anyone. Jorge is an awesome guide. We got to see cool farms, the rainforest, and the waterfall. It was a great adventure.
Camilo is a great guide!! The private tour to La Chorrera Waterfall and Chiflón Waterfall was an unforgettable experience and easily one of the highlights of our time near Bogotá.
This was a great experience from start to finish! I originally messaged with lots of questions about timing as we were on a 1-day layover so I needed to make sure everything would fit. Answers were very prompt and helpful. I confirmed the booking and 24 hours prior, our guide for the day, Jorge, sent a message saying hi and he would meet us the following day at a specific place. Very reassuring and organised. The trip itself was just incredible! The mountains are beautiful, and the waterfalls are divine. We went in dry season so they weren't as big as they are in the wet season, but they were still breathtaking. This is a pretty intense hike! The altitude certainly makes it higher; if you have a few days in Bogota, acclimatise yourself first. We went straight from the airport and were very breathless! The trails are a mix of pathway, rock and mud paths; hard going on the way up but you catch your breath on the way down. The views are just amazing, I've taken hundreds of photos and they still don't do it justice! Lunch at the restaurant was also great; I had the chicken and my friend had the vegetarian option. Huge portions! The bags to take on the hike were a brilliant touch too; local fudge style sweets (milk & sugarcane - I can't remember the proper name but delicious!), an apple, bottle of water and poncho in case of rain. Jorge was great fun and very informative about Bogota and Colombia as a whole. He was great at setting the pace and letting us rest. Also a great photographer! Honestly, this tour is so worth it - get it booked!
The tour was worthwhile in every respect. My guide contacted me early on and asked to move the tour forward by 90 minutes to avoid the traffic in Bogota. This had the advantage that we were the first ones on the trail that day and could therefore explore everything at our leisure and at a comfortable pace. We looked for and observed birds together, and my guide gave me detailed information about the history and nature of the area. Overall, it was a very pleasant conversation during the hike and a fantastic experience! I can highly recommend this hike to everyone. Be sure to pack sturdy shoes and bring sunscreen! Otherwise, the tour is easy to manage at any pace! Many thanks again to my guide for this exceptional experience!
Highly recommended tour. We loved the scenery. The hiking trail was entertaining enough, but not too demanding. Our guide Steven was great in explaining all the needed context, and ensuring everything goes smoothly with snacks, drinks, and preparation. We especially enjoyed the tour due to the friendly guide. The tour was organized with transport and lunch which allowed us to not think about logistics at all, and just focus on enjoying the experience.
Great experience getting into Columbian nature and seeing the awesome waterfalls. The guide Steven was super friendly, help & overall fantastic!
Katy our guide was very nice and knowledgeable. Gustavo was very kind as well. The place was perfect to avoid the busy area off Bogota.
Great experience with Gran Colombia tours and can't recommend enough. My driver and tour guide picked me up right on time. Tour guide was friendly and spoke perfect English and was happy to hike at my pace. When finished they drove me back to my apartment, the tour was well worth the money, communication was great.
First off my English speaking guide Camilo was on time at 7:00AM which I recommend to leave from your hotel. The drive was about an hour and a half I went on a Tuesday and there were only 7-10 guests in the park on a beautiful day. The hike for us was perfect conditions 90% dry paths no slippery areas I am 66 and we were climbing up and down for a total of 8000 steps before we reached the top I arrived less than 16 hours from sea level and even though I needed to stop to catch my breath managed to handle the trail with no real difficulty, The views of both waterfalls were spectacular and I have seen many all over the world I would highly recommend going I was back to my hotel y 3pm and Camilo is a wealth of knowledge on many subjects about Columbia
This is a great hiking tour! Approximately 1.5 hrs from Bogotá, you can hike to two beautiful waterfalls in Choachí. Our tour guide Angela was great and very knowleadgeble. Highly recommend this if you like nature and hiking.
Stephen was a great guide! His English is great & he is talkative & conscientious. He made sure the pace was good, pointed out interesting animals and plants. He made sure he stayed close enough that if I started to slip, he helped out. This is a steep hike.
Emilio was a wonderful guide! Charming, knowledgeable, and patient as we hiked. Gorgeous hike with incredible views; challenging but always very doable. And great food at the end of it, too. Gustavo was a heck of a driver; amazed at his efficiency and calm. Would recommend!
Steven was exceptional. He’s very passionate about his Country and enjoyed educating me about Columbia and the Natives. He was very welcoming, friendly, and made the hike enjoyable. When the hike became challenging for me he was attentive and gave rest breaks were needed enabling completion of the hike. He gave a delicious lunch suggestion at the end of the hike. Overall, great hike and Steven is the best!!!!!
We had a great experience with Steven who was our guide for the hike! Would recommend the experience for anyone who wants to get out in nature and experience a truly spectacular waterfall. I would say the hike is moderately hard with some up and down hill parts.
Andreas was very kind and friendly, and he was incredibly knowledgeable about what tourists may want to know about Bogata and the La Chorrera and Chiflón area. He introduced us to some new foods as well! We highly recommend Andreas as a tour guide, and this hike is great if you’re ready for some incredible views and great exercise!
Magnificent hike for experienced hikers. Wet, slippery rocks, exposed roots, high steps, and steep inclines require sure-footed walking. The scenery and waterfalls are breathtaking. Lunch was good and in a scenic location. Our guide Diego explained fauna & flora and answered all our questions about anything Colombia. We covered about 4 miles and 2,000 ft elevation gain.
Great experience; wonderful guide Alexander very knowledgeable, enthusiastic. Nice hike, beautiful scenery- highly recommend tour
My experience with the tour was very good. The driver and guide were on time and the guide was very attentive with lots of good information about the ecosystem as well as patience with my slow hiking speed. The food for lunch was tasty and the portion was more than enough. I can recommend this service if you are looking for an outdoors day trip from Bogota.
Overall a great experience! We did the La Correra Tour and were very happy about the tour itself as well as the guide and the driver. Everything was perfectly organized and very convenient, even with our very spontaneous booking on the day before the Tour. Highly recommended.
This experience from being to end excellent. The communication, instructions, and event were beyond any fabulous or breathtaking words. What a hidden gem and the team of Grand Colombian tours made it that much better. Alis, Marcelo, and JuanDavid were a perfect example of great customer service that exceeded beyond expectations. We are so thankful for a fabulous and most memorable experience.
Great experience that I would totally recommend. Amazing and stunning landscape. Worth the trip from Bogotá
What a beautiful day, so lovely to get out of the city. Leslie was a great guide. And the area is spectacular - even without a lot of water!
The hike is very strenuous and while I hike 3 miles every day up and down desert hills and through sand washes....I could not do this trail as many steps are a foot in height. Two family members did make the hike but they were beat at the end. The first waterfall is relatively easy hike. The second waterfall trail is very very strenuous. We were 3 people and the guide picked us up in a compact car, so we were crammed into backseat for an hour and a half going and a hour coming back. We asked to stop and take picture of Bogota from top of hill and guide and driver declined.
Beautiful views! The hike and waterfall had multiple beautiful views along the way. We had a perfect day weather wise. The hike itself is strenuous, especially for those not as used to the elevation (8K+ feet). The path is also slippery and muddy so be prepared show wise. Well worth it though.
This was great get away from the city. I enjoyed walking in the nature and it was beautiful. It was a little hard hike but manageable. I would not recommend for kids or older people. I saw two waterfalls and it was pretty. My tour guide Mayra was very knowledgeable and smart. She even talked about other historical and cultural things. She showed me where to buy the best chocolate to take home. Out driver was very professional. I recommend this trip if you come to Bogata.
I had a great solo trip with tour guide Leslie. Her and Pedro picked me up from the airport on time and she managed by expectations about the hike. She is a very experienced hiker and I am not and she was so patient and accommodating. The experience was very hard and challenging but definitely worth it! Only negative was the food. I am plant based and the vegan option provided no protein for a very demanding hike. I brought my own snacks. Please remember you can never go wrong with rice and beans! Great temperature on the hike. Definitely more than “moderate” in my opinion. Steep uneven and wet terrain- definitely should recommend hiking boots! Nature sites and waterfall so beautiful!
Great hike! We kept a good pace and after leaving the city at 8a we were already back to the hotel just a bit after 2p. Leslie was an excellent guide and knew so much about flora & fauna. Juan David was a wonderful driver, navigating through the crazy mountain turns. Highly recommend this trip if you need a break for the city. It wasn’t too tactical but we didn’t feel a bit winded because of the elevation. All in all, I would say it’s a nice workout but not strenuous if you’re relatively fit.
