Depart Bogotá by private car with a bilingual guide, heading north through the Sabana, passing greenhouses where carnations and roses are grown. After about 3 hours, stop in Ráquira, known as the “city of pots” for its handmade ceramics. Visit Sutamarchán, famous for spicy sausages and its Tomatina Festival, and Tinjacá, known for tagua handicrafts.
After lunch, continue to Villa de Leyva, a colonial town founded in 1572 with a large plaza, cobblestone streets, and a 17th-century church. Visit the Fossil Museum nearby, built where a 120-million-year-old kronosaurus fossil was found.
