Great experience from start to finish. Liefer and Marcella were fantastic. I recommend bringing motion sickness pills for the ride up the mountain, which is bumpy.

Itinerary
️Departure from The Cranky Croc Hostel – Bogotá Our bilingual guide will greet you inside the Cranky Croc Hostel, where your immersive coffee journey begins. After a brief check-in and orientation, guests board a comfortable tourism van for a scenic drive into the Andean countryside. This central hostel is not just a meeting point—it’s the launchpad for a rural adventure into Colombia’s coffee heritage.
Upon arrival at the rural coffee farm nestled in the Andean hills outside Bogotá, travelers are warmly welcomed by local hosts. The day begins with a traditional Colombian breakfast tasting featuring local baked specialties and coffee brewed in a rustic olleta. Surrounded by misty hills and birdsong, this authentic introduction sets the tone for an immersive journey into Colombia’s coffee culture.
Coffee Plantation Walk Travelers are guided through sloping coffee fields in the Andean foothills, learning about the life cycle of the bean — from seed to harvest. The walk invites a deeper connection with nature while offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Visitors may even spot local wildlife along the way.
Workshop & Coffee Tasting Guests dive into a hands-on coffee workshop where they learn about sustainable cultivation, bean selection, and local brewing traditions. The session contrasts two authentic methods: a hearty “campesino-style” brew served in the morning, prepared in a traditional olleta using pre-ground coffee, and later, a barista-style tasting using a French press, with beans freshly ground on-site by the campesina host. This tasting ritual invites guests to savor the diversity of Colombia’s coffee culture in one unforgettable experience.
Return Trip to Bogotá – The Cranky Croc Hostel After lunch and closing activities at the coffee farm, guests board the van once more for the return journey to Bogotá. The drive offers one last look at Colombia’s countryside and a chance to reflect on the day’s immersive experience. Drop-off is at The Cranky Croc Hostel.

An incredible experience that I would name "Be a Farmer for a Day" coffee tour! The hands-on nature of the day made all the difference; getting to step into the role and actively participate in the process rather than just watch from the sidelines gave me a whole new appreciation for coffee farming. The depth of detail shared throughout the tour was top-notch. I especially loved learning how to spot and taste the difference between high-quality coffee and lower-grade beans; it was an eye-opening lesson that will forever change how I buy and drink coffee! If you're looking for a fun, immersive, and genuinely educational day trip from Bogotá, don't hesitate to book this. Highly recommended!
We absolutely loved this tour. Nick was a wonderful guide- so nice and kind. He made sure we could understand all translations. I highly recommend booking this experience. Even if you don’t love coffee, you will love this tour.
This is an unbelievable day you will learn everything about growing coffee it’s amazing!! We only had a couple of days in Bogota, with so much to do wasn’t sure what tours to book. I can honestly say book this one . Andrea our guide was lovely, passionate & enthusiastic. Marcella the owner of Campesina Farm growing coffee produced ORGANICALLY. We started our day with home grown produced food for breakfast, stunning views overlooking the farm. During the tour you will learn everything about planting, cultivation, harvesting of the coffee bean. Before you leave your treated to an amazing lunch all produce organically grown / produced on the farm.. This was one of the best full day tours I’ve booked.
I had an amazing experience on my second tour in one month with True Colombia Experiences — this time visiting the beautiful coffee region of Choachí for the Coffee Farm Tour at La Campesina. My first tour with them was La Chorrera Falls, and once again the experience exceeded expectations. A huge thank you to our wonderful guide, Natalia, and our driver (apologies, I forgot his beautiful name), who made the day so enjoyable, welcoming, and seamless from beginning to end (in both Spanish and English). At La Campesina, the owner Mari gave us a fascinating and authentic tour of the coffee farm, explaining every stage of the process — from planting and picking the coffee beans to fermenting, washing, and drying them. It was incredible to learn how detailed, time-sensitive, and caring the entire process is before coffee finally reaches your cup each day. The food throughout the day was also fantastic. We enjoyed a delicious traditional breakfast with a tamale, fresh fruit, and hard boiled egg. Lunch included vegetarian beans, rice, potatoes, and salad, or chicken with Colombia’s famous Ajiaco Soup. After lunch, we participated in an educational and enjoyable coffee class and tasting led by one of the longtime coffee farm experts with seven years of experience (apologies, I forgot her name as well). Everyone even left with a fun souvenir after the coffee quiz — a bag of La Campesina coffee! This was truly a memorable experience full of learning, culture, beautiful scenery, delicious food, and wonderful people. Muchísimas gracias to the La Campesina team and the True Colombian Experiences team!
Great tour guide and driver. The coffe farm staff were very hospitable and fun. Great amounts of knowledge. I will not be able to drink coffee the same again without thinking of the fond memories.
What an incredible day! Marecela was an amazing tour guide. The entire trip and the coffee farm was absolutely beautiful. Our guide at the farm was so knowledgeable and I learned a lot of new things. If you dont take this tour, then you are missing out!
This was the most incredible experience. We really learnt what goes into our cup of coffee. On arrival we were given a hearty breakfast and a small lesson about the farm. We then went walking through the lifecycle of the coffee. We saw immature plants, learnt how coffee is collected, collected our own coffee berries. We saw how they are washed and dried. We were the given a tasting of the farms coffee and a small sample to take away. It was an amazing day and treat for a coffee lover
This tour was an incredible experience. The drive to and from the farm was beautiful. It was very informative and an immersive experience in the lives of coffee farmers. Our guide Marta was incredibly fun and helpful! We even got to try the coffee from the farm and it was delicious. Definitely recommend if you’re interested in immersing yourself in the culture of Bogotá.
This was a great trip to learn all about coffee production in Colombia. Our tour guide Jaclyn - our guide - was so pleasant and knowledgeable- a wealth of information! The food was delicious and the tour very thorough. Definitely recommend!
The time slips by because you are so engrossed. I am not a coffee drinker but I enjoyed the experience. Marcela was engaging and my tour guide ensured she translated when I was unsure . Very hands on and a brilliant experience. Elsa
We had a remarkable experience! Our guide Elizabeth was fun and knowledgeable. After this experience, we had a whole new appreciation for quality coffee and all the work that goes into each cup.
It was a wonderful day tour to Finca La Campesina, and a highlight of our trip to Bogotá. We had Nick, who was the most pleasant and knowledgeable guide, and just a nice person. He translated into English everything we were told on the farm, and also told us many interesting things about Colombia and Bogotá, where he grew up. There were only four of us, so the experience felt personal and almost private. Our day started with pickup at the Cranky Croc Hostel in the nice and safe part of La Candelaria. We drove for about an hour and a half east of Bogotá, first going up to 3000+ meters and then going down to 1800 meters above sea level, where Finca La Campesina is located. You really feel the altitude changes around Bogotá, so if you get carsick or are sensitive to elevation, be prepared for that. The farm itself is rather small, and everything feels quite personal there. There were no other tours at the same time, so we had a calm and private atmosphere. We started with a traditional farm breakfast with a breathtaking view and a cup of farmer’s coffee prepared with panela (which is raw cane sugar, you’ll also be told how it’s made), and then went through basically every step of coffee collection and processing. We learned the basics of coffee growing, did coffee cherry picking, saw it being weighed and evaluated, and then depulped. This farm uses the traditional wet processing method. We also got a great overview of Colombia’s coffee regions, saw how coffee is sun-dried (with a cat), and how it’s stored afterward. We finished with a coffee tasting prepared in a French press, along with an explanation of different brewing methods and what actually changes between them. At the end, we had Ajiaco con pollo for lunch. It’s the traditional Bogotá chicken soup with three kinds of potatoes, and it’s now one of my favourite meals. I honestly think it was the most delicious dish I had in Bogotá. The potato flavor was just on another level. Things to note and some advice: I wouldn’t expect to learn anything radically new if you’re a coffee geek. The tour focuses on very detailed basics, assuming you know little about coffee. But you’ll still very much enjoy the whole experience if you simply like coffee and want to see how it’s made on a real farm. The farm has a small and lovely souvenir and coffee shop with very reasonable prices, and they accept card payments. We had a 125-gram coffee sample included, and bought another 250-gram pack for 30000 pesos. They also had 1-pound packs that were a bit cheaper per weight. They even sell good-quality handmade ponchos for 50000 pesos, which we found really great, along with smaller souvenirs. If you didn't have enough and want another quality cup a of coffee after getting back to the city, there’s a great coffee shop called Café Nos basically across the street from Cranky Croc Hostel. They can walk you through V60/Chemex preparation and give you a proper little coffee tasting experience for no extra cost. Just ask about it and stay on the first floor. Regarding the tour itself, you can find more details about it on the True Colombian Experience website. We also booked it through them. They offer many other interesting experiences as well. We found the communication extremely pleasant and seamless, which is why we chose them in the first place, and we didn’t regret it for a second. It went beyond our rather high expectations.
This was a great experience at a women ran local farm showing how they make their coffee. The breakfast and lunch were great! Nick was a great guide!
This was such an amazing and worthwhile day. We learned so much about coffee farming and have a new appreciation for coffee. This activity was worth the money and I definitely recommend it. The surrounding mountains are spectacular.
Perfect day to spend in the beautiful nature and the countryside outside Bogotá. The hosts were very welcoming and lead us through the world and mystery of the coffee. They also served us breakfast and lunch with a magnificent view. Juan the guide was top.
I cannot speak highly enough of this experience. The pickup point is a really beautiful hostal in the middle of La Candelaria which is very tourist friendly and safe (and they serve great coffee). Our guide Liz picked us up from there and we got in a 20 person van with our driver Jorge to start our excursion. The ride up the mountain was gorgeous and Liz did a great job telling us all about the city, the mountain and the flora and fauna that drastically changes as we go up the mountain and come down the other side. When we arrived to La Campesina we were welcomed by the owner and her "security" team which are the cutest and friendliest dog group. They don't bark and won't approach you if you don't want to but if you do, they are the sweetest. We had a delicious local breakfast and started with the tour. The farm is an agroecologic operation run by women and Karen was our farm guide. We learned all from how they make the different types of fertilizer to how they grow the plants, the harvest process, the differences between the types of coffee plants and how the coffee cherries are turned into the delicious coffee beans we know. Since we visited during harvest season we even got to pick our own baskets of coffee cherries which was super fun, especially with the gorgeous view from the farm. Then we got to learn all about the different types of brewing and how to recognize good coffee from bad one finishing with a delicious tasting of course. We ended the tour with a delicious ajiaco lunch and headed back to the city. This is truly an experience no one should miss while visiting Bogotá. 10/10 in every aspect!
Great experience, you learn everything about coffee. The service was great from start to finish. The meals prepared were great, coffee was amazing. Definitely an experience everyone should do when visiting Colombia
Unique experience. Lovely farm and great guide. The scenic drive to the village alone would be worth it.
A wonderful experience! I’ve visited coffee farms before but this the best experience- you are welcomed with a nice breakfast, learn so much about coffee from a plant seed all the way to a cup! You get your hands dirty picking the fruit and go through the whole process, so you get a good appreciation for all that goes into it! Lunch was yummy and nice souvenirs too. I highly recommend. Women owned and operated, high quality coffee A+++! The dogs are also really cute- say hi to little Rihanna! ☺️
We had a great time. It’s a bit of a long drive but the whole experience is well worth it for coffee connoisseurs. Do not skip!! It is a most of the day affair as well just a heads up.
We had such an incredible time and would highly recommend this to all the coffee lovers out there! Lorena was a great guide and we really enjoyed the hands-on tour, great conversation and beautiful views. One of the best cups of coffee I've ever had!
This trip was fantastic. The drive over the mountain was beautiful- so much to see out the window. Lorraina was a lovely guide, describing the different ecosystems we were passing through. At the farm, the entire staff were very welcoming as were the dogs, JLo and Rhianna. We had breakfast, toured the farm learning about coffee production from planting, to picking, to processing. Then we learned about the different kinds of coffee and roasting techniques. We taste-tested coffee and are now qualified to be coffee snobs! A wonderful traditional lunch followed. I give the whole experience 10 out of 10, no notes.
This experience in Bogota was wonderful. Our guide, Lorena was knowledgeable, friendly and energetic. The drive to the farm took us through some unique fauna as we drove through the clouds up 2000 feet (600 meters) above Bogota and then back down to about 6000 (1830 meters) feet. We saw a whole new environment as we crossed the top of the Andes. Upon arriving at the coffee farm we were greeted by the owner and her security patrol: five of the happiest, most laid-back dogs I've known! Although there is a tour here almost every day, you'd think that we were the first people they'd seen in years. We were served a traditional Colombian breakfast then began our immersion into the growing and preparation of USDA Certified organic coffee. I got to dig a hole and plant a baby coffee plant; his name is Charlie and he'll produce his first cherries in 2027. (Ask to see Charlie the Coffee Plant if you go.) The entire tour is interactive so you really do get to be "a coffee farmer for a day". After our time as coffee farmers we were served a delicious chicken and rice lunch, then participated in a proper coffee tasting. I now have a new appreciation for my morning coffee. The drive back to Bogota was as enjoyable as the drive up and we left with a bag of fresh Colombian coffee, a couple trinkets my wife picked out and a new memory.
If you are in Bogotá, dont miss this incredible and unique experience! It has been one of the most beautiful and incredible experience around the world! Really informative, special and exciting! I really recommend it and trust ne, you will love it! Thank you for the amazing day! Hope to see you soon! Nicolo
This was an AMAZING day! Highly recommended, and a highlight of our stay in Bogota. Really, every aspect of the day was excellent. Our guide, Lorenzo, was friendly and outgoing, and shared a ton of information about Colombia. At the coffee farm, we were greeted by the owner, and introduced to our guide for the coffee experience - also a warm and friendly person, who showed us every aspect of coffee production. Breakfast and lunch were generous and delicious - everything was farm-fresh and organic and beautifully served on a patio with a view overlooking the mountains. We met the hens who laid our breakfast eggs! They're part of the farm's ecosystem. And, needless to say, the coffee was delicious! I won't lie - I was nervous at the thought of driving on narrow mountain roads (which indeed they were!) but our driver was 100% reliable. He knew where to pause on the road to let us snap amazing shots of the Andes. I had hesitated booking this because it felt pricey - but we more than got our money's worth from this outstanding day trip.
Amazing experience from planting, picking, processing, and drinking it. Though the site was only 1.5hrs away from Bogota, it was incredibly beautiful and refreshing. Last but not least, the guids were of course fantastic, with full of knowledge and generousity! Thank you so much for the experience!
A must do if you’re a coffee aficionado In Bogota! I own a coffee roasting company here in Honolulu and learned a lot from Karen and Claudia because they made me feel like family the moment I walked in. I love the fact that it’s a women own organic, third generation coffee farm. Food was tasty, people were friendly, pets- guard dogs, were friendlier. I had a great time while in Colombia!
Amazing day. Amazing food and amazing coffee. I highly recommend this tour. Learned a lot about coffee.
A truly unique experience — from a single coffee bean to the coffee on the table. This was my first time experiencing something like this. In both Canada and China, I’ve never seen an activity like this. On the way to the coffee farm, it was as foggy as when I crossed Zheduo Mountain. Lunch wasn’t very tasty, the driver, the guide, and the presenter were all excellent.
We had an awesome day at La Campesina organic coffee farm! Our kind driver, Guillermo, drove with immense skill and care for the 1+ hour drive over the mountains, around constant curves and speed bumps, never once did we feel carsick. Lisette, our fabulous bilingual guide, educated us on the way as to the ecosystems, flora and fauna, and what to expect on the farm. She even called ahead to inform them we are vegetarians, and the tasty organic meals (2!) reflected their desire to make the experience as perfect as possible. At the farm, Karen guided us through hands on experiences in each of the processes required to make 1st rate organic coffee. She even gave us an ‘exam’ at the end, rewarding each of us with a gift of their coffee! We learned about different beans, various roasting techniques and what to look for, different coffee preparation methods, even taught us the correct way to use a French press! She was passionate and well educated and her pride in their top quality product was evident and well deserved. The coffee was so delicious and pure, that no milk or sweeteners were even considered! We would do it again, in a heartbeat!! Thank you for making this such a beautiful and memorable experience, surrounded by the stunning Andes and a bunch of loving and adorable dogs :)
amazing small trip to a coffee farm. Great tour guide and amazing people at the farm explain us about process of coffee from A till Z..Defenitely recommend to experience it!
We had an excellent time on this journey. The drive from Bogota to the farm is stunning. When we got to the farm we got a lite breakfast and then started with the tour. The team there showed us the entire process of picking (we got to pick), peeling, and drying the coffee seeds. Then we ended with a delicious, fresh lunch before heading back. Highly recommend this tour!
The way to the farm itself was an amazing experience, the views were breathtaking. Both guides were amazing, great english, very nice and informative. The farm was amazing, if you want to see how coffee is grown, do not hesitate to go. On top of that the food and coffee served was out of this world!
The coffee farm tour was the highlight of my Bogotá trip! We handpicked coffee cherries, learned about cultivating coffee trees, and discovered the entire process of transforming coffee fruits into a perfect brew. Plus, we enjoyed two delicious local meals and, of course, got to taste the freshly brewed coffee!
A wonderful experience visiting an organic coffee farm. Our tour guide Andrea was friendly and informative. The meals served were second to none too. Highly recommended.
We had an incredible time at this tour! I have been on several coffee tours in other countries and this has been my favorite hands down! It was the most immersive experience getting to actually harvest the coffee and taste, smell, and see the beautiful and hard work it takes for us to get our cup of coffee. The farm owner, Marcela, was incredibly knowledgeable and made a comment that,”after today, your life will never be the same.” That really rung true as my boyfriend proposed at the highest point of the mountain on the drive back surrounded by frailejones. Thank you to our wonderful tour guide, Elizabeth, for making this a trip we will never forget!
This tour is expensive but worth of every penny! The breakfast and lunch we have are prepared with local food, and the wrapped cornbread is delicious. We learned so much in one day: how to judge the quality of coffee beans, how to respect the nature, how a cherry becomes a coffee bean, how to decide light, medium or dark, which machine to use for fine, medium and raw... We feel like we are part of the family of the farm!
This was by far one of the best experiential tours that we have done. Huge shoutout to our guide Lizeth, driver Javier, Karen for her detailed explanations, Jasmine for the yummy food and Marcela, the owner of the farm. It's wonderful to see the detailed farm to table/export process of coffee in this lovely organic farm. And the vistas...mind blowing! Note: if you're prone to motion sickness, please take something before you embark on this trip - it's winding roads all the way and back.
we went to a coffee farm that is an hour and a half hours outside of Bogota. Diego my guide told me a lot about the city and coffee culture in Columbia on our way there. He was really knowledgeable And I was great hearing about Bogota from a local. Our host at the coffee farm was also super nice. We got to Experience the entire harvesting process which was really cool to see! Diego was a super friendly, knowledgeable and helpful guide. I highly recommend going on this tour with him.
It was a very good day out in stunning scenery. I learned a great deal about coffee growing and production. Sebastian, my guide was welcoming and helpful and Karin our charming host at the farm was a fount of knowledge and a good teacher. Breakfast and lunch consisting of local produce were delicious. Never again will I take for granted coffee or the skill and hard work that goes into producing it.
What an incredible , immersive experience at Finca La Compensina! They say once you experience this coffee tour, you will never see and drink Coffee again in your life. This is literally true! I want to thank my amazing tour guide - Diego Castro and our driver Guierrelmo ‘Torrento’ for such a smooth and comfortable guide. I want to thank Ms. Marcella, the owner at this female ran Coffee farm with her crew - Ms. Jasmine for the yummy meals and of course the most amazing and experienced lovely Karen for a very comprehensive and knowledgeable guide across all aspects of the coffee growing to the production to the table. Indeed, worth every penny! Will definitely be back!!! 10 out of 10!!!! Keep it up Team Finca La Compensina
Visiting the coffee farm was an experience both educational and enjoyable, especially when guided by an exceptional tour guide like Lizeth! Lizeth made the entire experience unforgettable. She transformed what could have been a simple visit into a rich learning adventure that we will remember for the rest of our lives.
This was absolutely an amazing experience. I learned so much about coffee it really changed the way I see coffee and my relationship to it. I highly suggest doing this tour. The people were so nice, the tour guide to the farm guides. The food was amazing, I loved the kitchen women✨. It was informational and resourceful. I felt like part of the community when we helped farm. 10/10 would do that again !
Super cool experience if you have a day in Bogota to chill. Great views on the drive to the farm, and you actually get to plant your own little coffee plant and watch the entire process of retrieving the beans! Highly recommend (this review is 2 years too late but better late than never)
Amazing trip learning, drinking and tasting the coffee of Colombia. The story, history and organic nature of the process was interesting to learn first hand
I am a coffee lover from the UK and wanted to experience first-hand all of the stages of growing coffee. The tour did not disappoint, and was one of the highlights of my trip to Bogota. Not only was the farm experience engaging and thorough, but the farm is located in a beautiful area full of lush foliage so it was also one of the more attractive parts around Bogota compared to other areas I explored. If you think you will like it, then you will!
The tour from start to finish was great. Our tour guide Lorenzo and Karen from La Campesina were very knowledgable and explained the coffee process. It has made me appreciate how coffee makes it to our home.
A fantastic journey through an incredible coffee farm that provides a well rounded understanding of coffee's cultivation.
We had a lovely day at the Campesina farm. They really know how to make good coffee and shared a lot of information on the process. We learned a lot and are very happy that we went there. Also, shout out to Yvonne out guide who was super friendly and a good guide.
