I had a very good time watching birds. We saw over 20 different types.
We've only been birding for about 18 months and looked forward to exploring wetland birds in a city as big as Bogota. Getting to the meeting point was a 40 minute Uber ride as it is located in the beautiful Parque La Florida on the city's edge. We were awed by the beauty and expanse of the wetland area and our guide Paulo from Truco tours and Paco and Elsy from Bakata Pajarera did a wonderful job of identifying birds and explaining the importance of the wetlands for the birds and people of Bogota. While parts of the park are open to the public, getting access to the best birding spots required our guides and was well worth it. We really appreciated our guides' knowledge of the wetlands and the efforts of their partnership to help preserve the integrity of the environment in a city with a growing economy. We were happy to learn the government's efforts to preserve the land despite the visible signs of encroachment by new construction. While we did not get to see the endemic and endangered tingua bogotana or Bogota rail, we did see 24 species of which 13 were lifers for us. Highlights included the incredibly beautiful scarlet ibis in flight, glossy ibis, the endemic spot-flanked gallinule, the yellow hooded black bird, andean duck, and white-bellied woodstar. If we return to Bogota we will definitely do another tour. It was a welcome respite from the sprawl of Bogota.
The tour was fantastic! It exceeded our expectations . We are a group of four people from Canada and it was our first time in Colombia and it was a great introduction to the local birders and photography enthusiasts. We arrived from Canada early that morning and there were several delays before we could join the tour. Paulo the tour manager was in constant contact with me and we were able to join the tour at the second stop. He was very helpful before and during the tour. We meet wonderful local Colombians who welcomed us and help with the translations. The tour is highly recommended.
Our flights were delayed but Paulo waited for us. He was knowledgeable about the area and the birds and the rest of the group were ultra friendly.
Whether you’re looking for an introduction to bird watching or a serious guide in an urban and rich environment, Bakata Pajarera offers great tours. Today in a urban park accessible in Uber, in 3 hours, we saw 21 species, listed in eBird and 10 new species for me!
It was a great experience, Elsy is an amazing guide, she knows very well the place, the species and story of this cosystem.
The experience was super, the guides are very experienced and love to teach.
Wonderful and great experience. Always grateful for the space and the great teaching work to continue bringing us closer to our natural beauty, generating awareness and promoting the love for birds. Recommended without a doubt.
Excellent experience getting to know the fauna and birds in Bogotá, the guides were very kind and willing to teach
A very relaxing experience, it is very enjoyable to observe and recognize the different species and sounds
Thirteen years ago, I navigated for the first time under different conditions with respiratory protection on the Bogotá River. Now, it was a completely different experience; the offensive odors are no longer noticeable, it was safer, and very positive. What joy to see the progress in this river recovery process.
Spectacular, that is the theme. The issue is that all the youth camp participants only have the authorization, so they should be part of it, and they would not be distant. Also, if a meeting needs to be held, then that is fine.
Wonderful new experience with a great group. Sightings and new learnings at each exit.
Wonderful moments to live the magic of nature, with the ideal accompaniment of the people of Bakata Pajarera, we learned about the birds of the Santa Maria del Lago wetland, the tools for observation, guides and applications that allowed us to live a great experience. Feeling the sky, flying birds, sounds of birds, water, trees of this beautiful place of Bogotá a very special activity. Thank you!!!!
Excellent experience to be the first time
Avistar is a wonderful experience in the wetlands of Bogota.Bakata Pajarera and Truco take us to another stage of Natural Tourism.
Tremendous place I had never imagined to reach and see so many birds as well as a ghost town.... I'll be back.
Bird watching, we saw 35 species! Was spectacular 10/10
It was very chévere to have known the wetland of florida, and to see very beautiful birds
Too cute, too enriching an experience
Very enriching all the activity with the company of bird Bakata.
Very good experience. Full of learning, which allowed me to meet people and have a new experience. I'd come back!!
It was an experience of connecting with nature, you see different species of birds, very striking colors and excellent explanation.
A pleasant and chévere group, to be able to integrate in these spaces knowing more about those sites and birds that in everyday life we overlook
It was a unique experience: very fun and very learning. Birds in the city present a way to reconnect with our roots, because thanks to them we know the balance in the ecosystem.
I really liked their energy and attitude, I have accompanied them on many outings and I have always had a great time, they are a few theories, they know a lot✨.
They are a group very committed to what they do and more for the fact of bringing birdwatching activity within the city that many people would believe is not possible, many congratulations and wishing them many more successes in the future
I recommend this experience to any nature lover, and also to those who want to try something different. Undoubtedly, an activity I would repeat.
We were with bacata bird in the Tibanica wetland , it was a rewarding experience as we were able to warn several species of birds both migratory and resident as well as see how this wetland brings a beautiful community process to students and inhabitants of this territory .
We left early and the wetland Jaboque welcomed us with soft mist and the song of several birds. As we walked along the trails, we were able to observe herons, tingas, flycatchers and other species that appeared among the reeds and near the water. The calm atmosphere, the movement of the wetland and the colors of the birds made the day a simple but very special experience, reminding us of the importance of taking care of these spaces full of life.
I went with my friends from BAKATA PAJARERA, who were in charge of accompanying me and teaching me the wonderful activity of watching birds in this beautiful place, not only enjoy the landscape, but I learned to recognize different birds, their characteristics and their habits, which made this outing an unforgettable experience. I relaxed, breathed, smiled, shared and recharged all my energies. Thank you to the entire BAKATA PAJARERA team for their good attention, for sharing their knowledge and for all their human and professional warmth!!!
I recently had the opportunity to participate in an activity with Bakatapajarea and the experience exceeded my expectations. Beyond bird watching, what I really valued was the educational approach to the day. Not only did we learn to identify incredible species that coexist with us in the city, but we delved into the importance of their habitats and how the different ecosystems of Bogotá are vital to them and the other beings that make up it. The guides demonstrated deep knowledge and infectious passion. I left with a new perspective on the wetlands and hills of our city, understanding that every tree and every body of water is a home that we must protect. Super recommended for those who want to reconnect with nature without leaving Bogota! 🐦🌿 What a great experience with Bakatapajarea! 🦅✨ If you like nature and want to learn for real, you have to go out and bird with them. ¡10/10!
In July 2025 I had the opportunity to take a hiking and bike watching outing in Florida Park with Bakata Pajarera. I met them in Puente de Guadua, as I had no bicycle, and with a person from Bakata we walked to the point of entry to the trail set up for sighting, while the other participants made the tour to the entrance by bicycle, while watching, made stops of environmental interpretation and tour in the wetland. It is essential to clarify that we were able to make the admission because of the management and logistics that they advanced, so I advise that you always manage to enter with someone who confirms the admission to have security on the trail. When we arrived at the sighting trail we had security and the administration knew who we were going to have filled out a form in advance. That day even the park manager accompanied us and provided information about everything that can be done in Florida Park. The information before the sighting was very clear regarding what to wear, what to wear to eat and what equipment if they did not have them rent. I would tell the stakeholders that all along there was environmental interpretation and that inside the group there were experts providing information and data. We were very careful to respect and not disturb the animals and flora in any way. The most memorable thing for me was seeing the Tingua Bogota for the first time. Learn what a lifer is and other concepts of sustainability and conservation. I close my comment by sharing my eBird user: siriri so they can search the watchlist of that day that was left in a total of 29 species.
I've been there several times, and each one has been wonderful. It is a very friendly, interested and knowledgeable group. I don't know much about birds, and that wasn't a negative thing, on the contrary, every doubt I had was answered with patience and generosity. I have learned a lot from them, especially understanding the importance of preserving these ecosystems. In addition, it is an unparalleled opportunity to see a Bogota that few know, home to multiple animal and plant species, living with the madness of the big city. The number of bird species sighted is truly moving. Highly recommended
Watching in the beauty country Colombia is a privilege.Unique experience with Bakata Pajarera. The capital shows with its wetlands the natural wealth.
In our last visit with Bakata Pajarera, we met the Tibanica wetland, in the town of Bosa in Bogotá. A very beautiful and safe space where we see a lot of Herons and Tringes, among others. The group with whom we shared very nice, and of the coolest, were the hosts, to meet Tina a woman dedicated in the care of nature and memory, a beautiful being of which I took her look and noble smile. Each outing with Bakata Pajarera is a magical adventure of wonder and recognition of the territory and nature! Recommended 20/10
A wonderful nature experience in the city of Bogotá with incredible landscapes between wetlands and mountains, Bogota the capital of the world with the most species of birds, thanks to the friends of @Bakatapajarera, Colombia the country of beauty.
