Mike is the best. Very knowledgeable guide and chill dude. Fruit tasting at a local market was my favorite part but just riding a bike through neighborhoods in Bogota and seeing important historical areas was so cool. You get to see ALOT in the few hours you ride around. TOTALLY worth it.

Edgar was a perfect tour guide who shared with us so much about the city. We could visit the major highlights of the city as well as what we asked additionally in one day which was very productive. Rated as very good not excellent is because the information given initially on the website was different from what the tour was actually was. It was 8hour tour instead of 4, we spent more than 20mins at Museo de Oro etc. It wasn't a big deal and again the tour was amazing but it would've been improved.
Well worth it. Edgar was an excellent tour guide. Exceeded the three hours. Be sure to stop at his favorite empanada place!
The tour was amazing. I had a chance to explore the most famous spots in Bogota and experience the rich culture. Edgard is very knowledgeable and I also learn so much with him. He is easy going, friendly and try to accommodate your needs and ideas. He speaks a lot of different languages which is a plus. Gracias !
Touring Bogota and the surrounding towns with Edgar is a must for any traveler. Edgar not only is full of knowledge and wisdom (in addition to speaking multiple languages!), but he is well-traveled and flexible, and works with you and your companions to deliver the best of Bogota in your time with him. We were able to explore Bogota and Zipaquira with Edgar, and he was gracious enough to assist us in a trip to Andres Carnes in Chia. Edgar is beyond professional and friendly, and his love for his country is evident. The quality of our time spent with him over the course of our two days in the city was exceptional!
My friend and I were in Bogota last week and we had set up a City/Salt Cathedral Tour with Edgar a few months in advance. We were so pleased with our tour, but we especially clicked well with Edgar. He's very knowledgeable about his country (and South American in general) and he loves answering questions about it. He's also just a good person, very sweet. He definitely took care of us. Contact him about a tour when you're in Bogota, you won't be disappointed!!
Just finished two days with Edgar and Explora Bogota and had a wonderful time. Edgar doesn't just take you to the different sites, his colorful explanations truly immerse you in the culture. He had so many stories to share, and great advice for us to make our stay in Bogota the best it could be. Bogota gets a bad wrap in the press but I have to say it was safe, clean and the people warm and friendly. We are so glad Edgar was able to show us his amazing city and I can personally vouch for the quality of his tours. By the way, be sure to add the Salt Cathedral to your list. It is a bit of a distance but truly a wonder and not to be missed.
Edgar picked my husband and I up for a day tour of the Salt Cathedral and the city of Bogota. He was very knowledgeable and super accommodating. He went over and beyond to make sure we were happy and saw everything we wanted to see. I would highly recommend using him!
Explora Bogota is a wonderful way to experience some of Bogota's best sites. Edgar is an energetic, knowledgeable, funny, intelligent, and caring guide. He has great passion for life and for his country and we thoroughly enjoyed seeing Bogota through his eyes. The Salt Cathedral was unique and interesting and Montserrate gave us an amazing view of the city. Too bad we were there on Mondays when the Gold Museum was closed. I highly recommend Edgar and his team of tour guides!!
I visited Bogota from November 2nd-5th and contacted Edgar a few days before (via email) to ask questions and schedule my full day tour for November 3rd. I was very impressed by the information he provided and his prompt responses. He gave me great tour recommendations and I decided to go with the Salt Cathedral and Bogota city tour with pick-up at 9am from my hotel. Edgar came to my hotel promptly at 9am and we were on our way to visit the Salt Cathedral in Zipaquira. Edgar was extremely personable and has an excellent command of English (in addition to Spanish, German, and Portuguese). As we traveled, he answered numerous questions and pointed out various landmarks throughout the countryside so I could take pictures as we passed. At the Salt Cathedral, it was great to have a personal guide. Edgar's knowledge of the history and geology of the salt mine was very informative and his ability to explain each artistic station was insightful. He even gave me excellent photography suggestions and his rapport with the staff gained me a WiFi connection 600ft underground so that I could upload pictures and post to social media. Afterwards, we took a quick tour of Zipaquira before driving back to Bogota. In Bogota, we took a driving tour through various neighborhoods of the city as we made our way to Cerro de Monserrat. In a city of nearly 9 million people, with countless roads, and insane traffic, Edgar definitely knows his way around. The entire time, Edgar presented historical facts about each area and allowed me to take plenty of pictures of the beautiful architecture, art, and people throughout the bustling city. Edgar secured our mountain trolley transportation at Cerro de Monserrat and we made our way up the mountain. The views of Bogota were spectacular as we ascended and the modern city shrunk below us. The entire area was gorgeous and I appreciated the historical context Edgar provided. We ended our Monserrat tour with a delicious late lunch overlooking the city at the well regarded Casa San Isidro. After a full day, Edgar dropped me off at my hotel around 6pm. I explained that I had such an amazing day and greatly appreciated his services. He told me that the next day was his day off, but if I wanted, he would be willing to take me for a walking tour in the city. I eagerly accepted and we agreed to meet at the Gold Museum at 2pm. The next day, Edgar and I met as agreed and proceeded with the Gold Museum Tour. His comprehension regarding the history, artifacts, and implementations of ancient rites were very enlightening and a few stragglers couldn't resist following my personal tour. From there, we walked through the city streets through parks and colleges to tour Bolivar Square, where we witnessed a military parade, and then to the Presidential Palace. Afterwards, we walked to several museums, including the Botero Museum. Every aspect of the day was filled with wonderful Colombian culture and amazing photo opportunities. The tour ended with Edgar dropping me off at my hotel. I am so glad that I researched tour companies and went with Edgar. In all of my travels (US and abroad), I have never met someone so personable, respectable, knowledgeable, articulate, worldly, connected, and generous. This man knows everyone and was highly regarded by people everywhere we went. I felt completely safe and genuinely had an amazing time. Not only did I have a phenomenal guide, but I made a friend for life. Edgar, you got my number whenever you visit Chicago and I'll look forward to catching up with you when I come back next year. Thank you, Brother!
My friend and I traveled to Bogota and only had about 8 hours to see the city. I sent an e-mail with specific requests for hotel pickup, Full day city tour, and drop off at the airport. Communication was great via e-mail. Edgar was our guide for the day. He was very friendly, professional, knowledgeable, and had a great sense of humor. Our guide had a great day planned for us, including driving in a private car through various neighborhoods with commentary, a visit to Monserrate on the funicular, Gold Museum, walking tour of La Candelaria, Museo de Botero, Plaza de Bolivar, etc. The tours are very flexible and customizable, so if you have specific interests, let them know. We are foodies, so we ended up visiting a few of the best cafes and restaurants to try hot chocolate, tamales, pastries, and ajiaco (delicious soup). We highly recommend Explora Day Tours and hope you enjoy your visit as much as we did!
I took the city combo tour and German was my guide. It was a great day. German was excellent! He was very knowledgable, had a great sense of humor and showed me a lot of beautiful places around Bogota. I highly recommend Explora Bogota and be sure to ask for German - he's great!
Edgar is a FANTASTIC guide. OMG, he knows a lot. We had a great experience in the Salt Cathedral. The cathedral is very impressive. My family and I enjoyed it every minute. Edgar got the boys' (11 and 7 years old ) attention from start till the end of the tour. The city tour was also great; from Gold Museum, Botero Museum, La Candelaria, to Monserate. On the top of Monserate we got a tremendous view of Bogota. Edgar is a very pleasant person and a great guide. Gracias Edgar, fue un placer conocerte.
Edgar is a knowledgeable, professional and passionate guide. I did a city combo tour with him and he shared with me a lot about the Colombian culture, history and politics, which is very interesting to know. Would definitely return to him if I visit Bogota again.
I cannot say enough wonderful things about Edgar and his company, Explora Bogota Day Tours. I was a solo female traveler and booked the City Combo tour which was roughly from 0800 to 6:30 pm. Edgar picked me up at the airport and when the tour was done dropped be back off at the airport so everything was hassle free! He is extremely knowledgeable about the city and gives the most interesting facts. To be honest, it felt like I was being shown the city by a friend, not a tour guide. I felt completely safe the entire time as well. I will hold the most fond memories of my day in Bogota with Edgar and would not hesitate to book tours through his company again when I return to Colombia. Look no further than this company, the prices are worth every single
We arranged a six hour tour with Edgar at Explora Bogota and couldn't of been happier with our tour. First he picked us up at the airport, which made it easy to stow our carry ons in the trunk. We went to Monserrat, worth seeing, took a walking tour of old town, went to the gold museum, had a great lunch with locals then to a coffee shop that took us back to the 60's. He then took us back to the airport, which we were just expecting him to drop us off but no he parked and walked us to the gate fore wishing us a fond farewell. He is very knowledgeable about the City. You won't go wrong going with Edgar.
Just spent the last day and a half touring Bogota/Monseratte with Edgar. He is a great guide, loves the city and did a great job of explaining the context and history of all the places we visited. I very highly recommend and look forward to another visit in the future.
As I only had half a day but wanted to visit Monserrate and the city center of Bogota, we arranged a tour with Edgar. The tour was very interesting and he took me to all the interesting places we agreed on to visit. Edgar turned out to be a very good and also entertaining guide with a lot of knowledge about the city and Colombian way of life. All in all I enjoyed the tour a lot and would recommend it.
My mother and I visited Bogota. Since we had limited time and we were only staying one day. we decided to do the City Combo Tour to get everything in. We are glad we did! We were picked up by Herman, fifteen minutes early at our Hotel. Herman was an excellent guide. He was full of knowledge about every aspect of the city, historical, political, economics. etc...We were lucky to have Herman as our guide. You will be amazed of the Salt Cathedral Tour, you have to see this and its right outside of Bogota. Well our tour lasted about ten hours and we never felt rushed through it. I highly recommend this tour if you have limited time in Bogota.
We were picked up promptly by Juan Carlos at our hotel for our City Combo tour. It was a Saturday, so traffic leaving Bogota was cumbersome. However, Juan Carlos was sure to point out all of the interesting sites along the way to keep the ride interesting. The Salt Cathedrals were great- Juan Carlos knows everything about them and it was great not have to figure out how to buy tickets and wait for a group tour guide there. There are 14 sections of the cathedral, so doing the private tour enables you to move at your own pace through this. We are not Catholic, so much of the symbolism was lost on us, so I would not have wanted to be in a long, group tour that went over every tiny detail. If you want this detail, Juan Carlos can surely provide it. Traffic was bad again on the way back to the city. If this would bother you, I suggest booking a weekday tour or leaving earlier. Juan Carlos drove us to Monserrate and took the cable car up with us, detailing the history and interesting parts of the city. We were also happy to have Juan Carlos in the Candelaria, as it's a lot to see and a lot of people everywhere. It was elections so many of the plazas were blocked off. You can tell Juan Carlos is so passionate about his job and city, as he even talked some of the people blocking off the area to let us by for a quick peek. The City-Combo tour is definitely long and all day. A great way to spend the day if you only have a short time in Bogota. If you don't like car rides or can't do a whole day of touring- I recommend you split seeing all of these sites into two days. Surprisingly, it's not a ton of walking, as you drive everywhere, so it's a good tour for all ages and fitness levels.
Edgar was an excellent guide. He is very knowledgable on everything from ancient history to modern technology. I did the City - Combo tour. Edgar picked me up at my hotel right on time and we first traveled to the Salt Cathedral in the town of Zipaquirá. Edgar was very patient and caring regarding my physical condition and often dropped me off and then picked me up to keep me from having to walk so far while he parked the van considerable distances away. After the cathedral, we returned to Bogotá and toured the Gold Museum. Next we had a wonderful lunch at the museum dinning room. We next rode the cable car up to Monserrate for an awesome view of the city. The final part of the tour was to Plaza de Bolivar to see the Cathedral, the Presidential Palace, the Capital, and other important buildings. If you are in Colombia, I definitely recommend that you contact Explora Bogota!
In February, we had Edgar for a full day tour of Bogota. Excellent in every way! Not only did we visit the must-see sites, such as La Candelaria, but Edgar showed us some great little off-the-beaten-path place and provided an entertaining and illuminating insight into the city and country. Highly recommend.
I did a basic city tour with Edgar on a recent trip to Bogota. I can describe my experience in one word: awesome. Not only did I see the sights of this vibrant city, I also learned quite a bit about the city, Colombian history and politics. Edgar goes the extra mile to make sure his clients have an incredible experience. Do yourself a favor if you're in Bogota, book a tour with Explora Bogota.
I recently had a half-day free in Bogota, and as this was my first visit to the city, wanted to see some of the local landmarks and get a sense of what the city is like. When I did some research on-line, Edgar's reviews were superb, and I agree with all the other well-deserved feedback he has received. He was waiting for me early in the hotel lobby, had great English, and I had a fantastic morning with him touring the city. I couldn't speak more highly of Edgar and his company, and would recommend his tours to anyone wanting to explore Bogota.
Edgar provided me a once in a lifetime tour! We saw as much as you could possibly imagine in one day. He was 15 minutes early to get me, drove safely, had a great amount of knowledge and history about the city, Colombia, the politics, the people, and culture. I only had one day to see the sites and he made it possible for me to see many key things including then Salt Cathedral which was fabulous. He knows a great deal about the art and the history f the mines. You will be glad you selected this tour!!!
I recently went on a trip by myself to Colombia and was a bit nervous about wandering the city alone as a solo female traveler, so after reading great reviews I decided to book a full day tour with Edgar at Explora Bogota. I had an awesome day and it was well worth the money! Edgar picked me up at my hotel and we started by visiting Monserrate and then went on to visit a ton of other attractions like the Candelaria, the gold museum, the town square, the Botero museum, etc. Edgar was extremely knowledgeable about his city and could answer all my questions! He's very flexible and is happy to spend more time exploring one area vs another depending on your interests. After the tour I felt like I had a really good sense of the entire city and it helped me navigate on my own the next day. I would highly recommend booking a tour with Edgar.
My husband and I recently spent 3 days in Bogota and Edgar was our tour guide. Initially booked as a 1/2 day tour, he spent almost the entire day showing us Bogota. He's knowledgeable and was a pleasure to be with. He took us from one end of the city to the other and really knows how to get around the traffic! We wanted to have some local cuisine for lunch and he took us to a great restaurant in La Candalaria. If you're going to Bogota and want to learn about the city, Edgar's your man! I recently accompanied my sister during her business trip to Bogota, Colombia...a first for us both.I decided to embark on a few day trips to soak up as much as I could in 3 days. Having read the reviews on Explora Bogota I booked Edgar initially for a city tour and Zipaquira..well worth seeing. It was so enjoyable that I engaged him for 2 subsequent tours, the latter of which he put together at very short notice, ensuring that my sister could experience at least some of the city prior to our leaving. Edgar was the perfect guide - gentlemanly, knowledgeable, charming and hospitable - a credit to Colombia!!
Visiting Bogota for the time and having only Saturday free from business commitments I have booked in advance the city-combo tour with Edgar. After reading all the reviews I had quite high expectations, yet Edgar was able to exceed them by far. Started on time from the hotel and drove to Zipaquira to see the Catedral de Sal. Edgar has a tremendous amount of knowledge yet would "feed" you with the amount you can digest. On topics we showed interest more info was shared while on other topics only the basics were shared so actually we were in control. Keeping this balance makes the tour great. The Salt Catherdal is amazing and seeing with the right explanations is great. Continuing to Monserrate which is a must stop in the city, Museo del Oro and a walking tour of La Candelaria and Bolivar square. All together such a tour makes a perfect introduction to the city.
My husband and I spent a week in Colombia and I highly recommend Edgar as a tour guide. He is very personable, knowledgeable, and arranged the tours to our liking. As previous reviewers have noted, Edgar's city tour and Salt Cathedral tours are fascinating. I contacted other tour companies in Bogota and only Explora Bogota offered the personal, detailed tours we were looking for. Thanks Edgar for a terrific time!
City tour and Zipaquira salt mines with a really nice family of four from Chile and myself from Wales. Can't speak too highly of Edgar, he ticks all the boxes. The tour included Montserrat, Botero Museum, Gold Museum, walking tour of Candelaria and Bolivar Square and surroundings. We had a light lunch and drove to Zipaquira. The salt mines are interesting and definitely worth a visit. Ignore any negative comparisons with the salt mines in Poland as the two are totally different. Edgar is knowlegeable and he is very good at his job. We never felt rushed at any time. Edgar is good company, has a good sense of humour and is a really nice guy.
My brother and I just returned from a 9 day trip to Columbia. We had one long day in Bogota prior to a departure for home the following day. We booked a "City Tour" and Zipaquirá Village / Salt Mine Cathedral tour. What a wonderful day. We could not have hoped for a better guide than Edgar. He picked us up at the airport at 10:30 a.m. and dropped us at our Hotel at 9:30 p.m. He also recommended a delightful place for dinner and even joined us. A truly wonderful day with an excellent Columbian Guide. Don't miss an opportunity to spend some time with Edgar visiting the heart of Columbia!!!
First of all, this is not a review on quality of tours itself. We have booked a city tour, salt cathedral and Guatavita lagoon a few weeks before we travelled to Bogota. Edgar was very efficient in replying my emails. On the day, we waited for half an hour but he didn't show up. Our hotel staff called him on our behalf and I talked to him on the phone as well. He said he was at the doctors and would be at the hotel in one hour. But our hotel staff who spoke to him in Spanish first said the tour guide sounded like he didn't remember our names or the tour itself. I guess a simple phone call to our hotel saying he would be late or cannot make it would have been helpful. We were very disappointed since all the reviewers said great things about this company. We ended up organising tours through our hotel which were half the price.
I contacted Edgar through e-mail and was pleased he answered back right away. We set for a city combo (city tour and catedral de sal). He e-mailed me the fees, which were ok for our small group (4 adults). We had problems with our flight and the day before we were supposed to make the tour I called Edgar and he promptly agreed on postponing the tour. Next day he e-mailed he would be late, which was ok too. When we started the tour we could notice that he is really an expert. But he was definetely in a hurry. We could hardly follow him up around Casa de la Moneda, Botero´s Museum and Museo del Oro. Then we understood why: he would take another couple along to the Cathedral of Salt, so he couldn´t make the tour in our own pace... At the end of the tour, he charged us 30% more than he had informed in the previous e-mail. Also, he didn´t take us to a souvenir shop, which is part of every city tour I´ve been to. Well, I wouldn´t describe it as a great experience...
Mr. Edgar is probably the best guide I've ever found. Demonstrates that you love your job and makes the ride interesting. Always very attentive and helpful. The tour exceeded expectations. I recommend!!!!
We made a stopover in the city and closed with the EDGARD guide, which was well rated on tripadvisor. The ride became disappointing. As soon as we met, the guide tried, miserably, to include another couple in the tour, and we were paid for a more expensive tour. During all the time the guide did not explain to us any historical data about the city and the places, did not give us any privacy, was always in a hurry, and took us to a bad and expensive restaurant. The city, which was already a disappointment, became worse with this "professional".
