Shrewsbury Prison Escape Room - The Hole

My girlfriend and I loved the escape room! Perfect for couples and our guide Robbie was fantastic. A couple of very subtle hints to guide us and great humour throughout. Highly recommended

I cannot describe how amazing it was! Definitely worth every pound for this experience! We had Prison Escape and the actors were incredible - they need pay rise Definitely ! I will be back and will recommend it to everyone! Absolutely loved it and the team!

Me and my friend did the Prison Break which is the 2.5 hours long escape room. The setting of it was well thought out and the actors were good. Unfortunately a group participating within the game hogged all the clues and wouldn’t allow others like myself to see and get through. This made the experience less enjoyable. I travelled 2.5 hours all the way from Bristol for this and was disappointed overall.

We had a great time in "the hole" escape room for my husbands birthday. We did so well until the final clue, however we did waste a lot of time working out a clue that wasn't actually part of the escape room anymore. This could have bought us more time to solve the final puzzle which is frustrating.

Great couple of hours trying to escape the prison. We've been to many escape rooms and this one is a certain must. Shout out to the vicar and the rest of the crew for a well thought out game.

Quite a difficult escape room but Michelle was a great guide and helped us when we got stuck! 59 mins and 33 seconds was the time we took Some areas improvement but otherwise a good activity plus we got to visit the prison as part of the price

We arrived to find we were double booked so couldn’t get in and also couldn’t get a refund as the manager who refunds wasn’t at work. However we were offered a free tour including a drink and cake. I commend the staff for this. But having drove all the way to Shrewsbury just to be turned away is frustrating.

Escape room was enjoyable and good fun (albeit very difficult!) The team member, Michelle, was funny and helpful.

I had previous booked the ghost hunting experience early this month and I decided to come back as I thought my husband might enjoy an escape challenge, so I booked this event for mine and my husbands valentines gift for the 14th Feb. On the 13th Feb (one day prior) midday, I got a call to say this had been cancelled due to not having enough staff to cover the activity. It was upsetting that this had been cancelled at such short notice around a special occasion, but appreciate that these things happen. I asked for a refund for the £150.00, which should have really been processed during that call. We are now on Saturday 21st Feb. I have had to send multiple chasers with responses such as; we are busy and short staffed it will be processed soon. Refunds usually take 14 days to process - on the basis that it then can take up to 5-7 days to hit the bank, I don't know how a refund takes a business 14 days to process. At this point it is withholding money. I have not asked for anything other than a refund, which I am in my rights to do so!! Our valentine's was ruined, with no apology and now I am struggling to even get a refund of a substantial amount of money. TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE - still waiting now. Will keep post updated.

Fantastic visit to the prison including the Hole escape room. Brilliant fun. Our prison officer for the day was fab, made it fun & enjoyable. Highly recommend.

Absolutely loved the experience, the puzzles were a good level of difficulty and the staff were incredible. We will definitely be returning for another experience.

Really good day out with adult children. Lovely friendly and helpful staff. Very interesting tour round the prison and great fun in the challenging Escape Room.

First time experiencing an escape room and it was really enjoyable, we did the hole which is in the dark. We didn't escape this time but had a lot of fun trying. We will definitely be back soon to try the other escape room that they have. You also get to go around the prison which is really interesting. Definitely a good day out and worth the money.

Booked the Hole escape room after reading the description on the website, we felt it did not match what we were expecting. We thought we were going to be given orange jumpsuits but we weren’t. And then was handcuffed after we went into the cell as the prison officer couldn’t find them. We used our mobile phones for lights as there were no torches. The escape room itself was enjoyable and had we have been given the jumpsuits/handcuffs etc it may have made the experience better. The staff throughout the prison were all brilliant. All very helpful and friendly, our prison officer made us laugh. It’s just a shame we were missing those small elements which would have made all the difference really.

A fun filled experience with lots of laughter and puzzles. The interactions with the actors makes the whole experience even more enjoyable, be prepared to laugh and be laughed at.

Prison guard looking after us was brilliant. Free prison tour was interesting. Escape room was fun but it is a little on the easier side. There is a second escape room, prison break experience and a ghost tour.

A very fun experience me and my husband went for our anniversary and really enjoyed it. We also did the self guided tour which was fascinating.

Amazing Experience throughout! The “Hole” was so much fun. In comparison to other escape rooms out there, this one really was challenging! It took us a lot of time trying to work out some of the things in the room. Somehow managed to only need one clue from the Prison Officer. Absolutely amazing experience. Highly recommend.

Bought this experience a birthday gift for my family. We loved it all. We were so very close to escaping the hole! A great experience that tests your mind and great fun with the family!

Might be a bit harsh giving it 3 stars it was really good and our self tour was very good the only thing was the escape room needed a little TLC I won't spoil it because it was really good

We went to the escape rooms for a works party and I have to say I am very underwhelmed. The room probably needed to have some TLC and its was very basic. It was almost like a home made game, no sound effects, Infact there was no sound throughout the prison. A bit of atmospheric music would have added to the scary ambience I think this could have. It was very cold. I was expecting cold, but it was baltic! Wear gloves. It made me just not want to participate a great deal. But no problem, it was fine, I expected cold. Looked forward to the restaurant afterwards that was advertised throughout with a good varied menu with mains etc. Got to the restaurant. It was pretty dark and cold as well, got to the counter, there was a lovely girl on her own, and when I asked for the menu, I was given a choice of chips, cheesy chips or a sausage bap? Nothing else. Nothing that was advertised. After spending £40 on 5 portions of chips, we went straight to McDonalds. I feel like this place has good potential to do well, and the tours seem to have good reviews. But I was very underwhelmed at the escape rooms and restaurant.

Not at all entertaining. Worn out equipment, intercoms which did not work, poor instructions and long response times from staff when shouts or bangs on the door did not work. Its a shame as the prison is really interesting. Don't waste your money on this escape room!

The Hole was easily THE worst escape room I've ever done (and I've done lots). The puzzles were not linear and didn't make sense i.e. a coloured lock not relating to colours!?! The place was freezing cold making focusing on puzzles hard. We got out fairly quickly as there were only about 5 puzzles to solve but probably could have got out within a few minutes if the puzzles actually flowed. There were also 7/8 teams doing rooms at the same time with 1 member of staff available to set up and come to the door with clues when called which meant a lengthy delay if you needed a clue - not ideal at all! oh and we had a hot drink which again was easily the worst hot chocolate and cup of tea we have ever had the pleasure of paying £7 for! In trying to balance the review with a positive - the staff were very nice. The place has potential to be an excellent escape room venue but quite simply they have not made the best of it.

Enjoyed our time at the prison, something different and interesting. Did the escape room ‘hole’ in the dark. Pretty difficult and didn’t escape haha but cleverly put together, and got clues along the way. Please be mindful that you enter these pitch black rooms with bags on your head and 1 hand handcuffed to another member of your group, as I’m not sure if this is made clear when booking. You can remove the bags (pillowcase) when entering the room, however the handcuffs don’t get removed until you find the key! Good luck and enjoy!

Very interesting and worthwhile visit. Learnt lots about the prison system and how it’s changed throughout the years. Cold though so wear something warm

It was ok, not really clear what you were meant to do for most of the puzzles. Lots of the groups were asking for help. Looking round the prison afterwards was good.

Dis organised and obviously cell had not been checked prior to our game. Only at the end we found out that they had ‘forgotten’ to put the torches in, no wonder we could not find them or complete the game leaving my 10 year old daughter upset. In addition to this the previous participants pillow cases which are used to cover your heads were also left behind. No apologies and after 2 e mails and a phone call still waiting over 2 weeks for the promised reply. Obviously have far too many customers to worry about poor reputation!!

We were a group of 2 families with adults and teenagers and chose The Hole escape room, I was a bit nervous when I realised we were going to be handcuffed to the wall in the dark but I need not have worried as it was avsolutely hillarous from start to finish. Highly recommended way to spend an hour then you can take your time touring the prison afterwards.

What a great escape room experience. They made you feel a bit like you were an inmate and the escape room was challenging. Highly recommended.

What a brilliant experience from start to finish all the staff were incredible ! Funny and serious and just the right bunch you need in a place like that ! I came with my partner and friends we was away for the weekend ended it with the prison was the best experience we've done together . The escape was so much fun the officer was funny but cheeky ! Absolutely loved it you truly made my day I can't wait to return for the night stay and more newness that is coming il for sure be back ! I left with some souvenirs as always like a kid in candy shop for them . You learn so much from the tour I loved everything about it. The staff stand out massively il see you all soon . Thank you for such a great experience. Soon to be your prisoner for the night ! 🤣🤣

Good value, very interesting if a little creepy. Hole experience was fun and gave us another story to share with friends. Easy to park opposite the entrance too.

We had the best time, it was so interesting and there's something for all ages, the staff were really friendly and I would recommend to anyone. We done the escape room the 'hole' and we just escaped. Was great fun and officer turner was brilliant and the whole prison and all the facts was a great day out with my family and we all really enjoyed it. We couldn't wait to tell all are family and how time was filmed there and the haunted cell I stepped straight in no fear. The shower rooms the whole place has so much history was incredible if we are ever that way again I would Def go back thank you very much

Didn’t realise I had booked the hole but it was good and it is challenging so definitely need an hour! Staff nice. My only criticism is it was £85 but you could look round prison. I guess if u haven’t looked around before it would be better value but as we had it’s quite a lot for an hour and it was just me and 3 children - perhaps children rates would be good?

The worst escape room we’ve ever been. The clues were poor & we were missing one of them. Freezing cold and no guided tour provided as arranged, we were just told to look around if we want.

Escape room! Me and my partner visited the prison before and loved it, very interesting and such a weirdly wonderful place! Atmosphere is something you just cannot describe without having a wander round. Whilst doing so we saw the Escape rooms were coming soon so we went back and did "The Hole" Escape room, it was so fun! (A touch easy) but Me and my partner play LOTS of Escape room 😂 will be back to play the cell version! The "guards" were great actors and put on a great performance, thoroughly enjoyed! 👏

I did the hole escape room with my 11 year old twin daughters and their friend, can honestly say it’s worth every penny great fun and the staff were amazing. Give it a go and enjoy it

We really enjoyed the escape room was so fun. We also walked around the prison after which was no extra charge and was surprisingly interesting to read all the different facts. Staff were very friendly and helpful and were made to feel welcome.

Great experience. Myself and two of my teenage children came up and walked round the prison, which we enjoyed. Then we did the Hole escape room. Our first escape room experience and it was brilliant! We did manage to escape, with a few pointers, but the kids loved it and we’ll definitely do more escape rooms.

Great Experience! First time to the prison and completed an escape room, all staff friendly and helpful defo going again!

The hole escape room was so good, very entertaining and the time went so fast! It was such a good experience from start to finish and the staff were very much in character! The self guided tour was good as you could wonder around as much as you wanted - we enjoyed a nice coffee and cake afterwards :)

Very well organised, good cafe, great escape room experience and free to roam on a delf tour of the prison. Would highly recomend.

Great experience, recommend! Took our 15 year old daughter out for her birthday along with family and her freind. We all loved it, the prison was very interesting too!

This booking was not passed onto the venue. We arrived with the staff having no knowledge of us and no availability on the day accommodate us. The venue were very apologetic and tried to help us. Customer services at Viator have also tried to help but ultimately we had a wasted 3 hr round trip that was a Christmas present for my parents.

The hole escape room was great fun and the self guided tour after around the prison was great. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Great day out. And great value for the escape room & self guided tour in one. We had such a good time. The restaurant is a bit basic but it is an easy walk into town and we found a lovely chilled pub (Floro Lounge) staff in the prison were great. Very friendly.

Our great first experience at an escape room. The officers were great in character and helped if we needed. We managed to escape with 10 minutes to spare.

We did The Hole Escape Room yesterday and it was an amazing experience. This was the first escape room we had done and now we want to try more. From the welcome to the end, staff are so friendly. Would recommend this to anyone, we had children aged 13 & 14 and between 3 adults we all had our part which helped with different clues. Well done Shrewsbury Prison..!!!

All brilliant the hole escape room was excellent. The prison self guided tour was fascinating. Highly recommended day out.
