Wow! So close to the centre of everything. Having now stayed the night we are thoroughly impressed. Reception was friendly and helpful. The open areas downstairs were inviting as was the outdoor seating overlooking the river. Room was excellent and really comfortable. Breakfast was special. It ranks near the top of our current hotel breakfast favourites. Thank you Crowne Plaza we will be returning

This hotel is in the perfect location with onsite parking (£13 per 24 hours, not owned by the hotel but can register your car at reception). It's a 3 minute walk from the tourist centre/ city sight seeing tour bus and about 5-10 minutes in any direction from the butterfly farm, river, shopping locations etc. Booked through Booking.com for a Sunday - Tuesday stay with breakfast in a standard king room. The room was very clean and tidy with ample space and amenities such as tea/ coffee facilities, a safe for personal items, wardrobe, hairdryer, robes (though they didn't fit us) and a mini fridge (loved this! We were able to stock up on drinks etc to keep us going when not out and about). The room also had quality toiletries: Antipodes shampoo, conditioner, hand and body wash, and hand and body lotion. And although I don't believe it was officially air conditioning; the room did have a fan/ extraction system which did make the room notably cooler and the window opened. Additionally, I asked if there was anything I could have put in the room for my boyfriend's birthday when we arrived, and they gave me a list of options, of which I chose the chocolates and we walked in to a lovely box of Guylian on the table. The breakfast was perfect; everything from a full English to cold meats; cereal and toast to croissants and pancakes. Staff were all lovely, from the front desk, to the chefs and so forth. Although we did pick the cheaper part of the week, this hotel is well worth the stay. I can only imagine how wonderful the better rooms/ views are. My only gripe, and this is personal, is the pillows. If you have a bad neck/ back and are used to firmer pillows, the feather ones here are awful. I lost a lot of sleep due to this but I understand this is not their issue and I'm sure they probably do have other options if I had actually asked. I hope the overall quality doesn't slip because it's a wonderful place to stay.
Had a lovely overnight stay here on Sunday, Excellent breakfast, had beautiful weather and the area outside was delightful, clean and well kept. Swimming pool and leisure facilities are small but clean and adequate. But and this is a big but the staff were amazing. From the start to the end of our stay, anyone and I mean anyone who we spoke to or asked something of was absolutely outstanding. There was a minor issue in the bar and John and his colleagues were incredible with their professionalism in dealing with a difficult situation. Service was prompt and professional. Breakfast was lovely, a huge array of fresh food of all types, good coffee and again, the staff on duty were more than helpful. Thanks to all at the Crown Plaza we will return, an I would very much recommend.
We stayed here at the end of the June heatwave. The aircon worked well in our room. Other guests weren’t so lucky. The room was ok but it was the most expensive available. The ‘Stratford view’ was a flat roof, car park and some trees. Having arrived on a Saturday 2 hours before check-in time, I ordered a drink and some food from the bar. After 60 minutes, the food hadn’t arrived, and was told by staff we are very busy. After 90 minutes, we couldn’t wait any longer, I cancelled the order and was assured by bar staff and reception staff at check-in that my food payment would be refunded. It wasn’t, so I’ve had to open a dispute via my bank. Totally unnecessary hassle. Customer care is clearly very poor. The queuing system at the bar is chaotic, so at busy times expect to wait 15 minutes and then have someone else walk up and get served first. It can be very stressful. Breakfast service on the Sunday morning was a car crash. Considerably more people arriving than they could cope with. Long queues at the food counters and coffee machines. Some people were sitting in the bar area because there weren’t any tables free in the main dining room. But no staff were laying out cutlery for them. Very poor management of the situation. Later, I clearly asked for a zero alcohol lager in the bar. When I came to drink it I found it was full strength lager. I don’t drink alcohol because it causes problems with my beta blocker medication. My advice, choose another hotel. If you do book, I’d recommend buying food and drink in the High Street and take it back to the hotel to eat in the garden. It will be cheaper, better and less stressful. And the same with breakfast. Just take the short walk into Stratford. There’s plenty of breakfast options available in town.
I want to start off with the staff. The staff makes this hotel! The staff is so very kind and genuine. The host at the breakfast buffet knew me by name after the first day and warmly greatest us. House keeping services were amazing and front desk staff very helpful! The beds were very soft and comfortable and the rooms were clean, just in need of updating. My only compliments were very minor. The carpet was badly stained in many places, but that's the guests and not the staff. The rooms were hot at night. When we asked the night staff for an extra fan or something they didn't have anything available despite signs in the lobby stating to just ask as they are updating the air con. The last is the shower. The water pressure was very minimal and tubs elevated making getting in and out difficult and dangerous with a wet floor. Showers down swing in and out making it very easy to miss it slightly moving outward allowing water to run down the glass door onto the floor. Overall, very minimal 'issuss' and I would stay there again!
