The highlight of my stay was actually during checkout: the bellhop was extremely attentive when I asked to store my luggage for a few extra hours—before I even finished turning around, he was already walking over to help me with my bags. However, when the best part of your stay at an Autograph Collection property is leaving your luggage, something is clearly missing. I didn't find the hotel memorable or particularly well-designed, and overall service was barely average. The room was very dark almost no natural light during the Summer. On a positive note, true to the Marriott standard, the bed was great. Ultimately, this hotel is all about its location—it is exceptionally well-situated for exploring Bilbao.

I would rate Hotel Ercilla Bilbao 3 out of 5 stars. The hotel has a nice four-star appearance, with a good reception, friendly staff, and comfortable rooms. However, it is obvious that this is an old building that has been renovated or converted into a hotel. Many original features are still visible, and the bathrooms feel outdated. The taps, shower controls, toilet, and other fixtures clearly haven’t been modernized. The breakfast room is also rather uninspiring and lacks atmosphere. The breakfast selection is decent, but the coffee is only average. There is a small sign mentioning that egg dishes can be prepared on request, but no menu is offered showing the available options. For a hotel in this price range, I would expect this to be presented more professionally. Overall, the hotel is good but has several shortcomings that make it feel below the standard of a true four-star hotel, especially considering the relatively high nightly rate.
⭐ Excellent Stay in the Heart of Bilbao Hotel Ercilla exceeded our expectations in every way. What initially attracted us was the location, but it was the overall experience that made it one of the best hotels of our trip through Spain. The hotel is perfectly situated in the Indautxu district, just a short walk from Plaza Moyúa, Gran Vía’s shopping area, Azkuna Zentroa, the Guggenheim Museum, and countless restaurants and cafés. We explored almost everything on foot, which made our stay incredibly convenient. From the moment we checked in, the staff made us feel welcome. The doormen were especially helpful with our luggage, and it was nice to be greeted by complimentary water and sweets in the lobby after a day of sightseeing. Everyone we spoke with was fluent in English, which we really appreciated. Our room on the sixth floor was spacious, quiet, and overlooked the hotel’s front entrance. The bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom stood out with its high-quality toiletries and heated towel rack, thoughtful touches that made the stay feel a little more special. The hotel also has a stylish lobby with a restaurant, bar, and comfortable seating areas. Whether you’re grabbing breakfast, having coffee before heading out, or enjoying a drink in the evening, it’s a pleasant space to spend time. I also liked the dedicated workstations with power outlets, which are a nice addition for anyone working remotely. If I return to Bilbao, I honestly wouldn’t look for another hotel. Hotel Ercilla offers an excellent combination of location, comfort, and genuinely warm hospitality, making it an easy five-star recommendation.
Fantastic location and excellent service — the room itself was spacious, calm, and beautifully decorated. Unfortunately, the air conditioning let the experience down significantly. Despite reporting the issue during our stay, the temperature in our room never dropped below 25.5°C, and at check-out we received little more than an apologetic shrug. It's clearly an ongoing problem that management is aware of but isn’t being addressed. It’s a shame because otherwise I would absolutely come back.
I don’t want to jump to conclusions too early, but this might end up being one of my favorite Marriott stays this year. First of all, the interior design is truly impressive, from the public spaces to the rooms, everything feels very artistic and well thought out. Thanks to the front desk for preparing my room. I especially loved the 08 layout, which is compact but well designed. The bed, sofa, slippers, and robe were all of excellent quality. All the staff were professional and genuinely kind, from the gentleman who helped with our luggage, to the front desk, to the lady at breakfast restaurant. I’m sorry I didn’t catch your names as my stay was short, but I truly appreciate your dedication and warmth. Every request I had during my stay was handled promptly, and I’m very grateful to that. The breakfast was just as impressive. delicious with a wide variety of options. I highly recommend dining on the L floor. Even the tableware was thoughtfully selected and matched. Ty so much guys, I can’t wait to see u next time.
