Our day tour to Sachsenhausen was incredibly moving in large part thanks to our wonderful guide Cairan. He delivered a detailed account of the history and horrors that are memorialized at the camp. Due to the small group nature of our tour, we felt as though we got a much more personal tour. Cairnan helped immensely in offering context and details to better comprehend a difficult history. We strongly recommend anyone take this tour through Birchys if they are considering it. I should add, Cairan helped everyone figure out their transit home and was incredibly accomadating for any food/bathroom pit stops.

An excellent well put together tour, our guide Paul was extremely knowledgeable and handle the tour really well. For anyone interested in visiting here to learn more about this chapter in German history, would recommend you book with Paul and Birchys Tours.
Would highly recommend this tour! We had Paul as our guide and he was extremely knowledgeable about not only Sachsenhausen camp and WWII but around all history of Berlin and Europe. I learnt a lot and Paul had detailed answers to everyone’s questions. This is a must do tour when visiting Berlin!!
Paul was a great guide, he really was knowledgeable about all the sites we went too and over all the experience was great, the meeting point was easy to get to and getting to sachsenhausen was also stress free thanks to Paul. Cannot recommend enough!
Our tour was definitely made by having Paul as our guide. He has so much knowledge and shares it in a way that is clear, understandable and doesn’t avoid the tough/sad/heat breaking details. The day was bitterly cold but the time on the train and at the Memorial flew by. Highly recommend this tour - it added so much to (what we thought) was an already decent knowledge base.
Tour guide Paul was amazing. Had a great time with him, and he is extremely sharp. Definitely recommend.
Went with tour guide Paul who was very knowledgeable with good insight and facts. Chill guy
Terrible history and very sad tour. Our guide was knowledgable and made sure we saw the most impactful parts.
We went on this trip which was booked last minute whilst we were in Berlin. The booking process was very easy and straightforward, with excellent correspondence from the company. Our tour guide was Ciaran, who I must say was absolutely amazing! I can’t have asked for a better guide. I could really sense the passion from him, and he is very knowledgable, regardless of the questions asked. Ciaran took the time to explain about the longstanding political, economic, & wartime history of Germany which really put everything into perspective. Honestly, this was an absolutely amazing experience and I would highly recommend this tour to anyone interested in visiting the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp.
It was a very colorful and in-depth storytelling of both the history of pre-war Germany along with the hardships and atrocities endured by prisoners.
Our guide Beth is an expert in this field and was able to provide a number of insights into this dark period in history. I would highly recommend doing this tour
Interesting learning experience. Best to go thru with guide first. If time allows, go back again to read the available signs and stories that are provided. There are photos, exhibits and audio. Wear good shoes as lots of walking. Huge facilities.
Paul Tobin was our guide. He was excellent. Never was hesitant to answer any questions we asked . Very touching experience.
The Visite was memorable and very impressing. Our guide Paul was fabulous, telling us so many stories, information and details. Best guide in Berlin I guess. I recommend this tour with him highly
We had Paul as our tour guide and he was sensational. He was very knowledgeable and informative of the history of the camp, as well as the history of Germany and its involvement in WW2. We were fortunate to have him lead us. We would recommend Birchy’s Berlin Tours for this camp as it was a small group, which allowed for more questions and discussions with our guide. Thanks Paul!
We got lucky, just two people on our tour, with Julian. It was on the same day the 35th anniversary of the wall coming down, 9 November, another momentous day in Berlin. We learned so much and were regularly aghast at the horrific events of the past. Kudos to Julian for his amazing knowledge and flexibility in varying the speed of the tour to refleft out interests. This is our second tour with Birchys - we're very impressed with them.
A sobering experience, but absolutely a must do, in my opinion. Our guide Steve was very knowledgeable and very personable. He made sure we were well taken care of with food, drinks and bathroom breaks. He also stressed the universality of the horror, that it wasn’t only a German problem but a human problem, and the necessity of empathy in every day life in order to prevent such atrocities from occurring, otherwise, any one can be converted into a monster.
Our tour guide Julian was knowledgeable and passionate about the history of Sachsenhausen Camp. He took us through the camp with in-depth information about each area. We understood and felt the unfairness, misery and cruelty experienced here by far too many people.
The tour was a great experience. Our tour guide was Paul and he was amazing, so knowledgeable. I cannot recommend this enough!
Julian was my tour guide, and was a spectacular learning experience from beginning to end! Julian was very diligent in telling the stories and sharing key details and ensured we saw all of the important artifacts. This was definitely a wonderful way to see the camp and learn so much more of the stories beyond what we have read in the history books.
We had a wonderful knowledgeable tour guide who had a degree in History. Rebecca Bryant. She led us throught this tour with both professionalism and humility for the situation. My daughter and I were off course naturally moved and saddened remembering those innocents cruelly murdered. Rebecca was tollerant as I have a disability and cannot walk long distances, she went ahead and prepared everything, from buses, tubes and food. Most excellent hostess. She should be recognised for the professional job she does. Thankyou Rebecca. Alex & Lucy Parker
I highly recommend this tour. Paul was very knowledgeable and gave us many tips for our Berlin trip in general, including showing us how to navigate the public transport system. This is an important tour that all visitors to Berlin should take the time to do.
So glad we booked the tour rather than visiting Sachsenhausen unguided. Our tour guide Stephen was amazing. He was knowledgeable, friendly and covered the subject manor with respect. The meetup spot is easy to locate and it is a short train trip out to Oranienburg . From there it is a short walk to Sachsenhausen. On the way interesting spots were pointed out which we would have simply walked past on our own. Sachsenhausen is very large and if we had done it ourselves we would have run out of time to see everything. The tour covers all the main aspects and due to the train schedule you can remain behind after the tour to have a longer look around. Highly recommend and if I am in Berlin again I plan on using Birchy's Berlin tour for the city walking tour.
Our guide Paul was very knowledgeable and gave us a wonderful experience right from our meeting point in Berlin through to the tour of the concentration camp. I would highly recommend Birchy's Berlin Tours!
Paul was a brilliant and knowledgable tour guide and answered all our questions. He was very personable and brilliant at his job. He also directed us to many of Berlin's great shops and restaurants. He saved the day when the trains were cancelled and re-routed us too! Thanks for a great Saturday in Berlin.
An insight into a horrific period of time that the human race created. How could people do this to each other. It was an amazing tour under the circumstances, Paul was a fantastic tour guide, lovely guy who gave us such a knowledgeable account of the camp. Thank you pal for the day. A must do during your visit to Berlin, on a final note the other people on the tour rounded off the day. Thanks again.
Highly recommend this tour. Our tour guide Paul Tobin was fantastic and incredibly knowledgeable. His extra knowledge about other aspects of German politics, society and faith was extremely helpful too. We learnt so much and the whole tour was very interesting. You are definitely missing out if you don't visit and while it was of course a sombre place, it was a good experience. Thank you so much to Birchy Tours and our amaing tour guide Paul!!
This tour put us back in time to a place that makes you remember how easy it is for bad things to happen. Our guide Paul, enlivened the experience with his superior knowledge on the subject. It was a cold day and it was not even a fraction of the pain and suffering that went on at this place. A must visit to remember how close we are to letting fear dictate common sense.
Very well organised trip, our guide Stephen was fantastic - very knowledgeable on all subjects re Berlin/WW2, not just the camp. The tour was interesting and we learnt lots of new things, but it was carried out with respect for the place we were visiting. Stephen delivered the information in an interesting way, so it didn't just feel like an overload of facts. Would recommend Birchys tours, and I also feel it is important for people to visit these camps.
The subject matter of this tour is a challenge but our guide Paul handled it brilliantly, knowledable and articulate, balancing the serious nature and gravity of what we were seeing with a balance of the context to thid part of our worlds history and a stark reminder of how a society accepted persecution as a norm. On a practical note the memorial is relatively easy to get to and the information on display is German and English. Using a guide means you get to know more about the overall history of the site and questions you might have can be answered with a start point in Berlin.
This tour is a must do. Paul T was a fab tour guide, very knowledgable and really knows his stuff. As a family we learnt so much and would recommend this tour to anyone. Paul kept us informed all day and really looked after us.
Paul T. was a wonderful guide. He had a lot of knowledge about the place and other historical events. Would definitely recommend this tour! We had a small group, which was nice and he also keeped an eye for the shadow spots. 5 stars!
Very informative, filled with formal and informal information. Our guide Julian was skilled in combining history and current events all in English! I learned so much! And such a great value!
Excellent trip - really tough but very thought provoking and worthwhile - small group and Paul was a fantastic and very knowledgable guide - would definitely recommend
This tour was an incredible experience! Our tour guide Aaron was very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject. He made sure to answer all questions we had throughout the tour and made sure that we were okay and feeling comfortable along the way. It is a place that brings out heavy emotions, but it is insanely informative. I would definitely recommend this tour to anyone thinking of visiting the Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp memorial.
The day went from sunny and cool to very overcast with a somewhat unpleasant cold wild blowing through us, as we toured Sachsenhausen Concentration Camp. Seemed fitting to be physically uncomfortable as we toured a place run by sadists used to punish and murder their fellow man. Stephen, our guide, was amazing. I can't recommend him enough. We took a nice easy trip from central Berlin up to the town where the camp is (Oranienburg) via public transport (RE5 train) and then about a mile walk from the station to the camp/memorial. First, everyone needs to see a concentration camp. And although this particular camp was not focused on being an extermination camp, per se, how can anyone deny the Holocaust and mass exterminations perpetrated by the German National Socialists, when there is still such clear physical and historical evidence? A chilling tour, chilling stories, and a nice, small group for these amazingly horrific stories.
The tour was very well organized and our tour guide, Paul, was fantastic. I highly recommend this tour!
Excellent tour guide, great service. Even though we booked quite short notice, they arranged everything timely.
Paul was an amazing tour guide. He had a ton of knowledge and shared it all with us in an easy to understand way. Book this tour with Paul and you won't be disappointed.
As a travel agent I was very fortunate to work with Paul for a guided group tour.He was extremely knowledgeable, made it easy for my clients to understand all his explanations and answered countless questions Will recommend him any day
We were lucky because my husband and I were the only people on the tour, so it was easy to ask questions and talk with the guide in more depth. Our guide was very knowledgeable and friendly. We left the city on time and returned when expected, and he made sure we had time to buy food for the day. The information on the tour included a lot of details that we wouldn’t have had without our guide. He also explained how the events of the war affected Berlin both then and to this day. Although a tour of a concentration camp is serious by nature, our guide ensured that we left with a message of hope. When the tour was complete, he told us what time the trains ran and which one to get on. I definitely recommend this tour for others.
My groups tour guide was Paul and he did amazing. I learned so much from him and I couldn’t have asked for a better experience. He went above and beyond from the history he told us to the questions he answered. Thank you Paul!
Paul was a wonderful guide and really enhanced this experience. He was extremely knowledgeable about Sachsenhausen and Berlin in general. Highly recommend!
We are a group of 18 students who opted for a guided tour on 12 March, 22 and our guide was Paul. He was an absolute pleasure to be with! Paul was very knowledgeable and answered all our questions patiently. I would also like to thank Aaron who was handling the operations at the back end to organise a group trip with us. Overall, this trip is highly recommended - if you come to Berlin and do not visit this, you're missing out !!!
We had a fantastic 3.5 hour tour (we met at the camp itself) with Paul. He was extremely knowledgeable and made excellent use of the time. He gave a great introduction, setting the place in historical context, and throughout the tour helped make connections and answer questions. It's a lot to take in, but like he said at the end of the tour... we are all better people for looking squarely at history, and for trying to honor and remember the victims. We were a large group of parents and high school students, and communicating with the head of the tour company prior to the tour itself was also excellent -- quick response time! Highly recommend, and will definitely use them again.
Paul is an amazing guide for this tour. We were a group of 17 with a mix of adults and high schoolers. Paul kept everyone's attention striking a balance of facts, stories and history. He kept everyone's attention and was happy to answer questions. He provided appropriate context and compassion for this somber place. Paul was extremely friendly and is a native English speaker. I highly recommend taking this tour and using Paul as your guide.
I took this tour with three of my friends and we all agreed that is was one of the best tours we had been on in any country and of any type. Our guide was Paul and he could not have been more knowledgable, well-spoken, respectful, or patient (especially with with our many questions). It was an extremely powerful experience and I highly recommend taking the time to do this tour and to remember that the atrocities that occurred there were truly not that long ago. In addition to this tour, we ended up doing another walking tour of Berlin with Paul and followed some of his recommendations for restaurants and such! Thank you!!
It was very understandable, precise and objective information about the memorial. Paul has been really friendly and he answered all my random questions about the place. I really encourage everyone to take this tour because it will open your mind to a new approach of the Nazi Germany. 10/10
My son and I were on a brief visit to Berlin and chose this tour….good call. Paul was at the meeting site early, very friendly, and patient as other your members were a bit late. Paul was an amazing tour guide. His ability to place is back in time, and provide the context for the events that occurred made the tour of such a somber place compassionately educational. He shared his knowledge and recommendations for everything from transportation and refreshment to follow-on sites, shopping and dining.
I visited the camp with a guide named Paul - who was fantastic. Knowledgeable, educating, and interesting to hear. Highly recommended.
