Alex was amazing! He was very personal and very knowledgeable about the local food scene and the history of Berlin and the neighborhood we walked. We tastes some wonderful food from different ethnic backgrounds, traditional German, farm to table food and fantastic desserts made from sustainable sourced ingredients. Excellent food tour within the stylish Prenzlauer Berg neighborhood of Berlin. Our guide (and owner!) Alex did an amazing job! Alex grew up in Berlin and has a wealth of knowledge about local foods and local history. The tour was a fun mix of new and traditional foods from the area, with a lot of great stories bout the area and the people to bring it alive. If you want a tour that goes beyond currywurst pick this one!

Best food tour!! If you are looking for crowds and currywurst, this is not your tour. We were deep into quiet neighborhoods where the locals live. As described, it is a multi-cultural tour. We went from a very old pub known its unique sour beers served with German “mustard eggs” to Venezuelan to a grocer who carries the most wonderful local products and unique wines, to an award winning confectionery shop. Between our stops Alec provided us with commentary on life in East Berlin before and after the fall of the Berlin Wall.

My family did a food tour with Alex last week and all four of us enjoyed it very much (two adults, two teenagers). It was a great balance of new and traditional (food wise) with Alex as a knowledgeable guide providing interesting historical bits. My son has a nut allergy and Alex took care of all of that aspect for us as well! A perfect amount of food/drink at each place as well.

We had a really good time. Eclectic and interesting food, a fascinating neighbourhood to explore and a friendly and very knowledgeable guide in Alex. I had no idea Venuzualan food could be so good! Or that there are artisan stores selling food only grown or products made in the Berlin region. This tour is a great way to learn more about the wonderful variety of food on offer in Berlin.

This is not your usual currywurst and pretzel tour. It has great, true traditional and contemporary regional selections that are delightful. Definitely beyond the tourist experience.

What a perfect way to acquaint yourself with Berlin! We did The Berlin Culinary Experience tour with Margot early in our stay in Berlin. It was a wonderful way to explore a history rich area of Berlin. The tour stops were varied and all worthy, delicious and interesting. Margot included interesting local history while informing us about the foods and the the backstories of the restaurants and shops we visited. Try to fit this tour in early in your Germany itinerary. You will be able to enjoy the additional benefit of visiting a host of delicious restaurants suggested by this knowledgeable local guide. Highly recommended!

Loved this experience and would recommend to everyone looking to experience Berlin today! We spent 4 hours on the tour with (as promised) gourmet food - in contemporary and classic German spots. Our guide was knowledgeable, friendly and took amazing care of us - even pointing out (free, local) museums and next stops after we parted ways that elevated our day. The atmosphere was super friendly and chic, with connections to Anthony Bourdain. After the tour, we could spot familiar dishes and cuisine on the menu at our dinner menu. I would also mention that we took this tour on a drizzly february day, and it was so fun that we didn't notice the glum weather at all. Alex took us to a couple of local restaurants where we were served all different kinds of food and drinks. A great trip through history and culture of East Berlin.

Upon arriving at any destination city, I seek out the local market(s) and a food tour in order to best plan out my itinerary. The highest rated food tour I could find on Tripadvisor was the Berlin Culinary Experience led by owner-operator Alex. Having just returned from the food tour, I would rate Alex's tour in the upper echelon of food tours I've experienced for two main reasons: (a) To my knowledge, there is no central market near the "Mitte" area of the city where are staying to get a vibe of the ingredients and food scene. This makes going on a food tour even more important since I got to ask the questions that were on my mind such as "Why is there no big, easily-accessible permanent food market in Berlin such as you'd find in other major cities?" (b) Alex studied cultural anthropology at university and the members of our tour had many questions about the confusing history of East Berlin/Germany. As they say, history is written by the victors and Alex has a unique perspective having grown up locally in East Berlin/Germany. Ask him about it! Of course, if you don't have an interest in history and politics, this may be of little importance but for our group, it was very informative and welcome. Alex took this cue from our group and interspersed a lot of these topics into our tour which was great. In all, Alex was very hospitable and I would recommend his tour, given that I find Berlin's food scene to be very challenging!

This was an excellent tour. We visited many lovely restaurants, we will definitely return to and had some lovely food and drinks. Alex was so knowledgeable and interesting and was a lovely person to spend a few hours with. He brought the vibrant history of the area (Prenzlauer Berg) we visited alive and you could clearly feel his love for the city. Highly recommend this tour!

My husband and I had the pleasure of taking a tour with Alex yesterday. It was the perfect introduction to the vibrant food culture in Berlin and a great way to explore a local neighbourhood in the city. We ate delicious food, drank local beer while chatting about the origins of local dishes and how the food culture is adapting to modern times. It was also interesting hearing about the history of the local area and we felt like locals by the end of the afternoon. We even went back the next day to wander around the area and sample the food again ! Alex is very knowledgeable and professional but at the same time down to earth and friendly. Our food tour with Joseph of Walk With Us Tours of Berlin was a highlight of our trip. We tried many foods we wouldn’t have tried on our own, and our guide told stories that tied each food to the neighborhood’s (Prenzlauer Berg) history. This gourmet food tour proved a perfect way of spending a warm afternoon in the Prenzlauer Berg district of Berlin. Alex hosted us on the food walking tour. We only have 2 days in Berlin and it was the perfect way to spend an afternoon exploring, learning, eating and drinking. The tour was structured really well and Alex was super knowledgeable. There was also plenty of food and we would highly recommend.

It wasn't just about the taste (although everything was delicious!), but also about understanding the stories behind each dish and its connection to Berlin's culinary landscape. This food tour is different from most. It is a history class of food. Old to new. It was few food stops but they were a higher quality. I really enjoyed the food and walk around the neighborhood. We were able to buy a number of food gifts to bring back home. Alex was a great guide. Very personable and friendly. Also very knowledgeable about the food scene, old and new.

What a pleasant surprise this tour is…. I really didn’t know what to expect. I highly recommend it. It literally gives a history of food, from authentic original staple foods to the hip newer type of food. Plenty for all. Great pairings with drinks, beers and wines. To end with a cake that was melting in the mouth. I would do this again in a heartbeat. But we also got the history behind each food which just made you think a little more about the amazing city. What an excellent find on TripAdvisor!
