Many thanks to Jean-Charles for sharing all his knowledge about the history of the Berlin Wall and, more generally, the atmosphere of the Cold War. It was fascinating, informative, and humanly speaking, Jean-Charles was very pleasant. We hope Vivre Berlin and its guides have a long life!

Itinerary
We start at the meeting point of Potsdamer Platz to reach Nordbahnhof by S-Bahn, one of the ghost stations that remained closed for nearly thirty years after the Wall's construction.
At the Berlin Wall Memorial on Bernauerstrasse, we'll relive the trauma of separation, visiting an original part of the death strip, the no man's land. We'll discuss escape attempts, tunnels dug for this purpose, and the terrible stories of those who lost their lives because of the Wall.
On the famous Alexanderplatz, in front of representative buildings of socialist Berlin, we'll relive the emotions of the thousands who, through peaceful demonstrations, defied STASI's political repression, triggering the "collapse" of the Wall and the subsequent disintegration of the Soviet bloc.
We conclude our visit with the most famous and colorful piece of the Berlin Wall: the East Side Gallery and its 104 murals, including the now-famous kiss between Brezhnev and Honecker.

Interesting tour with a knowledgeable guide. A must if you want to discover real things around the wall and east Berlin..
Excellent walking tour with a french-speeking woman (actually swiss) living in Berlin for 20 years. She knows very well the history of Germany and Berlin. I chosed "West Berlin" to visit/learn something different of this terrible 2nd war. So we walked in West Berlin, saw the Wall and learned so many things. Especially that what we watched on TV in France in 1989 when the Wall was destroyed was not exactly the reality. We learned why they built the wall, how it was to live in the west or east side of the wall. Be there, getting true stories, seeing the wall, plans of the city, is something to do to get the point of view of the Berlin people. The woman guide was wonderful. Sorry I don't remember her name. A young swiss french speeking guide of the team, I guess there's only one. Thank for this very interesting and cheerfull tour. Katie
Very interesting tour, very dynamic, and a bunch of anecdotes about the years 1961-1989. Our guide has been applauded on purpose.
Did this tour a first time alone in January with Celine and did it second time in July when my father was visiting Berlin for the first time with Ariane. Great tour and guides! I highly recommend it!
Excellent tour led by Martin! Passionate and therefore fascinating, this guide allowed us to connect with the history of the Berlin Wall and life in the GDR. Besides his knowledge, Martin spoke loudly and clearly, which is particularly appreciated. The only downside was the large size of our group (about 30 people), which inevitably degrades the overall comfort of the service a bit, despite it being of very high quality! Thank you Martin, best of luck!
Paul was a great, very interesting guide for this 1/2 day walk towards the Berlin Wall. He knew the subject very well and he was truly fascinating. I recommend this tour and with a little luck you will be able to meet Paul!
Very interesting tour with Paul our French guide Perfectly complements the one we did the day before, the must-sees of Berlin with the same guide
We did two tours with a French-speaking guide: the must-sees with Marie and the Cold War and the Berlin Wall with Catherine. Two tours very rich in information, and in anecdotes as well. You don't see the three hours go by. Bravo for the quality of the content and the relationship with visitors. We were delighted by this way of discovering the city and its history.
a great tour peppered with little stories within the big history, thank you Arthur! didn't lose focus for a second in 3 hours of touring I finally understood the wall, the airlift etc informative, fascinating and moving!!!
Very interesting tour, experienced with our guide Catherine who brought the city's historical upheavals to life by having experienced them from the inside. Fascinating and chilling during the account of the night of November 9th. Full of anecdotes and gripping stories. Not to be missed.
The guide shared the history of the BERLIN wall with us based on her own experience, peppering her talk with personal anecdotes.
Lots of anecdotes because the guide Catherine lived through the construction and the fall of the Berlin Wall. Very interesting.
Very interesting and educational. One clearly understands the creation of East Germany and how it functioned.
Two perfect guides from start to finish: Martin and Jean-Charles.
Very informative tour with Arthur, an extremely pleasant guide who is very knowledgeable on the subject. Arthur managed to capture our attention throughout the tour, with information allowing us to gauge that history is not simplistic and that nuances are essential. With a great quality of presentation, Arthur also knew how to convey emotions very worthily. A visit that we recommend, both for its organization and for this memorable moment with Arthur. A Big Thank You!!
Fascinating visit, very competent guide, who was able to answer all the questions and gave vivid and interesting examples.
Jean Charles is passionate and fascinating. Thanks to him, we spent 3 hours rich in information and anecdotes, I recommend this tour without hesitation. Joëlle on 07/29/2026
Perfect in every way....Essential for deciphering the symbolic language of what remains of the past. Guides who are in love with their city and share their attachment with us.
A must-do, to do again, and to share with others! A tour full of anecdotes to make us feel this historical period. Thank you Catherine for sharing your knowledge about East Berlin!
We will have learned much more than in any history book, thank you Catherine for having shared the history and a part of your own history as you would have passed it on to your granddaughter (my 9-year-old daughter was part of the group). What an incredible wealth of memory and what accessibility! Once again a big thank you, we felt so lucky to share that with you and what a gift you offered my daughter to discover this whole part of history in this way. Caroline, Jacqueline, and Lola
Very interesting tour, it was clear that the guide Martin was truly passionate. We had a really great time!
Very interesting! Very lively tour with an exciting guide.
Our guide Mathieu Verpeaut, a native of Burgundy, accompanied us for 3 hours. I highly recommend this guide who is passionate about history. He knew how to make us share this very special moment in history. Thanks to him.
We greatly appreciated the visit with Catherine, who explained the history of Berlin very well, supported by photos, and made it very lively by drawing on her own experience and that of her surroundings. We highly recommend this visit.
Very pleasant tour with a highly competent guide (Elisa, I believe) who generously answered questions! I recommend this activity for its good value for money and for enhancing the visit to Berlin.
Excellent experience with Arthur. A lot of knowledge despite his youth. Very interesting and rich walk
Fascinating visit led by Elisa, a very friendly, cultured guide who perfectly masters her subject. Without a doubt the best visit we have made, essential for understanding the contemporary history of Berlin, Germany, and international relations.
Informative visit, well-commented and documented by a passionate and engaging guide.
Wonderful visit; we would like to thank Martin, our guide, for this excellent moment of sharing where he skillfully intertwined the small and large stories of East Berlin. Very enriching and informative. A passionate and engaging guide. Thank you
Jean Charles, our guide was super nice, very interesting visit. We were in Berlin that for the weekend it allowed us to optimize our stay. I recommend
Very interesting visit with Martin, French speaking guide, very clear in his comments, and who knows perfectly the history of East Berlin. Recommended absolutely.
Great visit! Natacha is passionate and allows us to have a comprehensive and very precise approach to the Cold War period. We learn a lot and have a great time. Thank you!
Thanks to Paul for this very interesting 3h visit, via visit of Berlin, the must-sees.
Thanks to Arthur for this fascinating immersion. He doesn’t just give dates, he tells vivid anecdotes that really convey the atmosphere of the time. A dynamic, informative visit
Very nice experience with our guide Céline for the visit "East Berlin". Thanks to it, we experienced an immersion in the Cold War, from the creation to the collapse of the Berlin Wall. A passionate and exciting guide, with a bit of humor, we were very happy to discover this rich history! This visit is entirely complementary to the one we made yesterday on the essentials of Berlin. We were 4 (a child of 11 years, 1 of 17 years and 2 adults) and each enjoyed. Bravo Celine and bravo to viveberlins (association of Francophone guides)!
Paul is an amazing guide! The visit was super interesting and very varied, Berlin is no longer a secret for us!
Great visit! We have passed through the historic places, unavoidable. The content of the tour was rich and the guide at the top! Thank you!!
I made 4 visits with this cooperative of guides: the Inescapables, Berlin sous, Nazism, East Berlin and authentic Berlin. I had 4 different guides all as exciting as the last. I really recommend these tours that allow you to explore the city and discover the different layers of stories that hide around every corner. Each visit is unique so you might as well make several. Thank you for your work, I loved it.
Berlin under the snow was superb and Martin sublimated it! Wonderful visit despite the cold, thank you for such lively stories.
Interesting tour, with a guide passionate about his personal history. We highly recommend this visit.
Remarkable visit with an excellent guide (Olga) who knew how to explain very clearly this tourist route so rich in history. She knew how to alternate the great story and some moving anecdotes ... One word: it was perfect despite the snow (!) and the large size of the group.
This very complementary visit to the main places of Berlin was an exciting discovery of life in Berlin thanks to the comprehensive and embodied explanations by Martin. A very big thank you, despite the negative temperature and cold, we did not see the 3 hours pass.
Very interesting visit with a passionate guide who introduced us to the whole history of East Germany. You can't see the three hours of visiting.
Remarkable tours of East Berlin and then Nazi Berlin guided by Arthur. Everything was exciting , precise , very documented , at a good distance , clearly stated , with pedagogy, humor sometimes, kindness , with a pleasant voice and that carries well. We could not sincerely wish for better! Moreover, everyone present on the first day was again present for the second visit 2 days later! I wouldn’t hesitate to repeat these same visits – others as well of course! – so dense and exciting are they. Thank you Arthur! Thanks to the association that organizes these visits (to book directly on their website 😉)!
Thanks to the flexibility and responsiveness of the team at vive Berlin tours, we were able to organize with Paul a private bike tour of East Berlin in the footsteps of the wall. Although not a regular on guided tours, we were all excited by this format: Paul is passionate, exciting and really allowed us to grasp the origins and complexity of events around the division of Berlin and Germany in general during the Cold War. Cycling allows you to see more and be even better immersed in the “German way of life” that I also wanted to introduce to my friends. Thank you Paul for volunteering for this unprecedented exercise, I hope you enjoyed it as much as we did!
Very interesting tour with an exciting guide who is anxious to adapt his comments to all ages of his audience. Thank you!!!
Martin was an absolutely extraordinary guide. He knows his subject at his fingertips and punctuates his story with exciting anecdotes that really allow to visualize the story. Thanks to its portfolio of A3 photos, containing remarkable archives, we were able to make concrete links with the places visited. In three hours, we learned more about Berlin’s history than we did in six years of school. We recommend without hesitation
We made two visits: the essentials of Berlin (with Paul) and East Berlin (with Catherine). These two guides excited us with their knowledge and passion. They allowed us to discover a beautiful city and better understand its role in recent European history. Many thanks to Vive Berlin Tours!
Following the visit of the must-sees of Berlin, I did not want to miss the visit of East Berlin. Each visit allowed us to understand this city through the prism of its complex history , but so well told by Martin... we let ourselves be embarked! Martin is an excellent guide. Thank you very much!
