Itinerary
was a Nazi concentration camp in Oranienburg, Germany, used primarily for political prisoners from 1936 to the end of the Third Reich in May 1945. After World War II, when Oranienburg was in the Soviet Occupation Zone, the structure was used as an NKVD special camp until 1950 (See NKVD special camp Nr. 7). The camp ground with the remaining buildings is now open to the public as a museum.

Sachsenhausen concentration camp is located a 30 minute bus ride from Berlin. I visited the site previosly on an organised tour and did not have enough time. This time I went with some friends and spent much longer there. It was free to enter. Much of the camp is no longer there, destroyed at the end of the war, wood taken for firewood etc, However, much is left, with signage in German & English and is very informative. Not a pleasant experience but an informative one.
Felipe was great! Super knowledgeable and very kind.
Although it's a visit where you have "mixed feelings", this is mandatory. You should do this once in a lifetime, we must see and feel everything to make sure this does not repeat. Our tour guide was Helena (Spanish speaker), she showed a big cultural and historical background, so I highly recommend her.
Two must-visit sites at the Camp : (1) Commandants House - located on the left, just before you get to the main entrance to the prisoners camp (tower). Contains some really interesting story boards of what happened at the Camp. There's many of these displays, but this one was one of the most informative & interesting IMO. (2) Prisoners Camp Entry Gate - We got into the entrance tower via a door on the right hand side, which leads to the upstairs area and some more interesting exhibits. I've been to Dachau and Auschwitz previously, and Sachsenhausen is also worth visiting , particularly as it's only a 40min drive from Berlin. You'll need to allow at least 4-5 hours for a reasonably detailed visit.
We visited the camp and it was reasonably busy but not overly so. We arrived mid morning. We walked from the railway station as the buses are hourly and we had just missed one. The walk took about 20 minutes. Not very well sign posted but we followed an organised group with a guide who obviously knew where he was going. The camp was quite emotional. Lots to see there. Probably only 20% or so of the original camp still stands but what is there is well preserved. Most of the original accommodation huts have gone. But the site and layout of the camp is well illustrated. It was easy (possibly too easy) to imagine what had happened in each part of the camp. Information provided was well done we did not get the impression that anything was held back or glossed over. The main canteen on the site was closed at the time of our visit which we didn't know until we were half way round. So we went about 5 hours without any refreshment. Some communication at the start of the visit would have allowed us to purchase drinks at the small cafe outside the reception before the visit. We didn't have a guided tour, we used the headsets. They were perfectly good. I expect there would have been some added value in having a guided tour but we don't believe that we lost out significantly. Would definitely recommend.
It’s a must to do while in Berlin. Very easy to get to from the city takes under an hour by train then around 20 min walk (very well sign posted from the station) It’s very overwhelming and sad but a definite must, we can’t forget about the past. We hired an audio guide which was fantastic. Make sure you talk water, it was very hot the day we went and not a lot of shade. We visited fairly early in the morning and by the time we were leaving it was very busy.
Celia was our guide during the tour to Sachsenhausen. She took us from Berlin to the camp explaining every detail of the outing very thoroughly. Her level of knowledge on the topic was impressive and had the skill to make us understand in depth many of the things that happened in our recent history. I strongly recommend to join any of her great groups of visits. Thanks!!!!
Very sobering and informative tour. It was well preserved with great static displays. The Monument itself is very touching. It was great to see the History acknowledged, lessons learned spoken, and guilt not attached. The site has a former Hospital onsite. As someone who served in the US Medical Corps, it was interesting to see.
My father and I really enjoyed the visit to Sachsenhausen with Helena. She was an incredible guide who explained every detail of the history with great sensitivity to the horrors behind it, all while maintaining full professionalism. She was kind and attentive at all times. We will definitely join her again if you ever need a Spanish-speaking tour guide! :)
Great tour with Celia. She had a lot of knowledge and was generous sharing it with the group and answering additional questions. I would totally recommend to do this tour, Celia provided history facts, passion and respect while sharing the information.
We have done the visit to the Sachsenhausen camp. Felipe has guided us magnificently through this very turbulent and difficult period of the history of Germany and Europe. It is shocking to see the camp, the barracks, and Felipe has helped us to understand the historical context that was experienced at the beginning of the 20th century and the conditions in which thousands of people lived and died. Highly recommended.
Excellent illustration and narration during the tour, thank you very much to Felipe Díaz, very professional in what he does
Felipe, an exceptional guide, helps us to glimpse the reality of the Sachsenhausen camp beyond what we would see at first glance without a guide.

An essential tour in Berlin
Magnificent guide Felipe, who gives you a necessary and clear immersion in history to come to understand and internalize the mark that the visit to these camps leaves in our memories
Felipe is a guide who exceeds the usual knowledge for this type of tour. 5 hours explaining in detail everything that happened, showing prior research and preparation, He explains thoroughly and answers every visitor's question with clarity. A unique experience and a must-visit in Berlin. Thank you Felipe Díaz for your guidance.

Felipe is a great guide, excellent level of training, good communicator, great presentation in terms of time, quality, and content. One of the best guided excursions and, above all, with great respect and empathy.
Very immersive and reflective experience regarding yet another horror of Nazism. Felipe has taken us by the hand through history, emphasizing the human values that were lost and were key to developing these atrocious acts.
Felipe made this visit a super dynamic and interesting experience. Don't miss it!!
Tour led by Felipe. A great pleasure to have been able to enjoy his knowledge and ability to convey, applying values such as empathy and respect. Highly recommended
My guide was Felipe, excellent, very knowledgeable, attentive, and very willing to help. A very interesting tour to look back and reflect.
It was excellent, Felipe is a great historian. I liked it so much that I highly recommend it.
You can watch documentaries and read documentation about the Holocaust, but the experience closest to reality is visiting the place where those terrible events took place. I totally recommend the activity, especially with our guide Helena.
Very good tour, the guide Felipe was spectacular, he explained everything to us with a lot of knowledge and passion, we left very satisfied and will repeat.
