I was in Berlin with my wife last October and we planned to visit the wall. We enjoyed the Private tour and we would recommend it.

Itinerary
See how what was just a desolate piece of land in, and also bounding, the death-strip has developed into a high-rise business and entertainment quarter. The rebirth of re-unified Berlin before your very eyes.
The section on Niederkirchnerstrasse is the only surviving fragment of the wall in this part of Berlin. It is right next to the former-Luftwaffe Headquarters which was used during the East German Period as the House of Ministries. It is also the site of one of the more incredible escapes into West Berlin.
The most famous of all the Check Points it was the scene of many failed and successful escapes and also an incredible face-off between the American and Soviet forces in the Autumn of 1961.
Visit and possibly ascend the last of the BT - variant watchtowers that used to surround West Berlin. A rare survival saved thanks to a private initiative.
One of the most incredible sites related to the Berlin and the scene of tragic loss and incredible escapes. The memorial itself is over 1km long and includes the only preserved complete cross-section of the Berlin Wall and Death-Strip.

My husband and I had a great time on our tour with Eugene. We learned so much about this historical time in Berlin. So much information that I had never known or heard about. So interesting that this was really not that long ago. The stories of individuals and their experiences are still are on my mind! Such a great tour! We are so glad we booked this! So worth while.
Reece was an awesome tour guide and he and my husband had a great time discussing common interests. The tour was really informative. Reece treated all of our questions and observations with sincerity and obviously loves Berlin. 100% recommend!
Cairan was very knowledgeable on the subject of WWII history and we found out he is especially interested in his he history of the divided city, and the personal struggles of its’ citizens. He had a great many stories and wove together a wonderful tour that left us wanting more. As a WWII history buff and a visitor to the divided city back in 1980 as a 15 yr old with my German Club. Things have obviously changed, and I was curious to see the differences and re-live some of that experience with my wife of 38 years. I was not disappointed and would encourage you to consider booking this tour as a private tour.
Our tour guide (Paul) was great. Very knowledgable. Paul’s narrative of the Berlin Wall & the events that led up to to the wall flowed seamlessly. Starting point & ending point were perfect
Great deep dive into history snd politics after WW2 and impact on Germany through 1989. Tour guide had great knowledge and was very thorough and courteous!
My wife and I have had a wonderful visit to Germany, mixing in a beautiful bike ride along the Elbe river, as well as touring some of the amazing historic sites in the region. On our visit to Berlin, we were really interested in learning more about WWII history. The Birchy’s Private Berlin WWII tour was perfect. We met our guide, Paul, near the Brandenburg gate, and we subsequently walked to a number of WWII historical sites around the city, We enjoyed the entire tour - including seeing the main historical sites in Berlin, but also learning so much from our guide Paul, who was well versed in the region’s history. He took us to all the main sites, he was well versed in WWII history and he took the time to answer our questions.
Cairan is the best tour guide. For the private tours, he picks you up at your hotel and makes a personalized start to the tour. He times the tour so you’re in every important place at a time that is the least busy and makes the most sense for timing of the tour. He shows you pictures taken by his mother during the 70s-80s. He tells the stories of people escaping the east, the escape attempts, and the people who didn’t see loved ones for decades when they either escaped or got trapped in either the east or the west. He shows you so many things that aren’t common knowledge. It is so interesting that you forget you’ve been walking for a long time. But, Cairan doesn’t let the group get too tired. He pauses in the middle for a rest break at a cafe with fantastic banana bread and cinnamon rolls. The tour is historical, personal, political, and architectural. I’ve never been on a better tour or had a more informed guide. I am HIGHLY impressed by this tour and by Cairan. I recommend both. Choose this and you will not regret it!!!!
We loved this tour, our guide Cairan was extremely knowledgeable. He explained everything in detail and always answered our questions enthusiastically. Thanks to him, it was an enriching experience to learn about the history behind the Cold War and the Berlin Wall. Would definitely recommend!
Darren is a very knowledgeable guide with a quirky sense of humor. Very straight forward on information and back story
Paul was absolutely amazing!! Couldn’t have asked for a better guide! Informative, extremely knowledgeable of all things, personable and a great sense of humor to put up with our group! Would definitely recommend him for any tour.
Our family (2 adults and children 12 y.o. and 15 y.o.) enjoyed this tour very much. Kirin was an excellent guide and incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the Berlin (and so much more). My husband had booked this tour so I went into it not knowing what to expect. He told us the tour would be 3.5 hours (closer to 4). I have to be honest that I am not a huge history buff and thought that it might be a "very long" 3.5 hours, but the time went by very quickly and the tour was so fascinating. It was the end of January so quite cold but we stopped in some cafes along the way to warm up. My 15 year old really enjoyed it, my 12 year old was a little overwhelmed but still found it interesting. You cover a lot of ground and definitely get your moneys worth (we chose the private tour). I highly recommend this tour, you learn so much! And I would definitely do another tour with Kirin.
Excellent guide. Had a marvelous time learned so much history about the Berlin Wall. Even the rain didn’t detract.
Learned so much on this tour. The Guide was very pleasant and knowledgeable. Due to my age, I related to the history of the Wall, alot of it occurred "in my days".
Aurel was a very knowledgeable guide and made this tour quite interesting. He did a great job explaining what the area was like during the Cold War as well as references to when Hilter was in power. It was a lovely history lesson we especially enjoyed his personal connection in a story about his grandparents. It made the tour even more meaningful. We highly recommend this tour. There was a lot of walking but the pacing was great and we also did take a train to one of the areas.
This was by far our favorite thing we did in Berlin. Paul was absolutely incredible! We couldn't have asked for a better tour experience. Paul was so knowledgeable, friendly, and kept our interests peaked the entire time. We learned so much, and enjoyed every minute.
I can’t say enough about how great our tour was with Cairan. He was so knowledgeable and passionate about the history that it was infectious. We were in Europe for two weeks and we decided this tour was the top experience. Our three teens found him engaging and the history fascinating. Highly recommend Cairan and his tour.
Cairan was my guide and was a fountain of information. I learned stories about the people who escaped to West Berlin. It made the history even more chilling and unforgettable .
We told the Private Behind the Berlin Wall and Cold War Berlin Tour with Paul and it was amazing. Paul is extremely knowledgeable about the Berlin Wall, the Cold War, German history, and Munich in general. We met him near the Brandenburg gate where we started our tour and he immediately engaged our family with an interesting conversation about the historical context of what we would be seeing on the tour. The entire walking tour was fascinating and we stopped at all the expected sites but Paul also pointed out many other things along the way. He also gave us some great suggestions for lunch, coffee etc. We all thoroughly enjoyed the tour and learned a tremendous amount. Highly recommend this tour and Paul as a guide.
The tour was fantastic, Simon gave us a comprehensive history of the Cold War with lots of anecdotal stories plus a few jokes thrown in. We felt that we learned so much and really enjoyed it. Thank you Simon!
We took the Private Behind the Berlin Wall and Cold War Berlin Tour with Paul and it was fantastic!!! We saw and learned so much of Berlin’s history! He was very knowledgeable! Paul was flexible with the schedule and the sites to visit. We had taken a different tour the day before and it included a monument scheduled on this tour, so he gave us the option of skipping it or going to it again. He was very considerate of my elderly parents and their speed of walking. We never felt rushed. He made sure to point out steps to ensure their safety. He was so friendly and fun to get to know. He made sure we had a rest at a cafe he recommended that is popular in Berlin. They had delicious coffee and pastries! Overall, it was a wonderful experience and I would highly recommend this tour and Paul as a guide!

This tour was absolutely amazing! Paul did an excellent job educating our group on the facts from the Cold War, the Berlin Wall, the City as a whole, and answering all other miscellaneous questions that we had for him. Paul was very timely, met us with a smile in an easy location to find, and provided plenty of tour options along the way! The inclement weather did not hamper his spirits, as he remained extremely professional throughout the tour. We were all absolutely astonished of his ability to recall facts from history, even when we threw him a few curve balls along the way! Our small group of 5 people agreed that the tour far exceeded our expectations and was well worth the money we spent!
Paul was fantastic, he spent the time to go into detail about the Berlin Wall and the Cold War and answered any of our questions. Would recommend anyone do this tour if you want to learn from an expert guide. It was worth paying extra for a private Tour.
Great tour with the fantastic Aaron - lovely guy, down to earth, easy to chat to, good level of knowledge and lots of good accompanying material to share. Went with my 15-year-old son who is studying the Cold War at school, and we both learned a lot. Would highly recommend.
Steve is exceptionally knowledgeable in the topic and he has a fantastic sense of humor. It did not feel like an official tour and more like a friendly promenade with a friend who happens to be a comedian and a professor of history rolled into one. He adapted the tour to our interests.Highly recommend !
Our tour guide Aaron was incredible. He has a vast knowledge of the history of Berlin and was so enthusiastic. This is a must do!
Beth was a wonderful guide for this walking tour in English. The tour was primarily supposed to be a cold war tour, but since I was also interested in German and Nazi history, Beth gave me a nice introduction to the history of Germany, rise of the Nazi party, WWII and then the division of Germany and Berlin after the war. Beth is a student of history and very knowledgeable and she was happy to tailor the tour according to my specific needs and answer all my questions. We started at Reichstag, visited the Roma and Cinti memorial, Soviet memorial of WW II and made several other stops related to WWII and the Cold War including a stop at Check point Charlie. At the end of the tour, she recommended me to visit Tranenpalast and some other free museums. This was an expensive tour since I was required to pay the price for two even though I was the only one person in the tour. But I am glad that I still took it. A tour like this needs a guide who is knowledgeable and has good command over the language. Beth was fully equipped. I recommend this tour and Beth as a guide. Just be prepared to walk though since you will need to walk for 3- 4 hours to see all these wonderful historical sites!
Aaron was a awesome guide. He was very passionate and informative with all his information that he presented. His tour was very organized and had a good plan so we could see a lot. So much to see. It was a great history lesson. My wife and I leaned a lot.
We were very lucky to be assigned Aaron whose knowledge is exceptional and his enthusiasm on the subject was infectious. The tour takes you to all the expected locations and Aaron goes into as much detail as you can handle explaining each site. A great tour with a truly great guide. A word of warning though, there is some traveling via public transport required so extra expense is required which was unexpected.
We just arrived back from a thoroughly enjoyable European trip and one of the highlights of the entire trip was the Berlin Wall Tour we joined with Birchys Berlin tours. Thank you and shout out to, Ken and Birchys BERLIN tours. We will hit you up the next time we are back in town!
Started badly with the tour guys going to our hotel and we went to a meeting point (my fault!) But this was sorted out very efficiently by the company. When the guide arrived (Francesco) he could not have been more apologetic. The tour lasted well in excess of the 3 hours and covered so much history, I could not find 1 Fault. It was bitterly cold and wet but that was not able to spoil our day. I have to give a big thanks to Francesco who was such a friendly and kind guide and his knowledge was exemplary. You will not be disappointed if you book this tour
This tour was one of the best tours were had taken during our adventures in Europe. Aaron was so knowledgeable and entertaining at the same time. There were 8 of us and we all agree that this sightseeing company knows what they are doing. We thank you Aaron for the well organized tour which lasted long than the set time of the tour. We would highly recommend booking with this company for you will not be disappointed.
We (three friends) did this tour last Friday. It was a rainy day, but it didn't bother us one bit as Francisco was such an inspirational and passionate guide, with clear knowledge about the cold war era. We saw so many interesting places - and listened to the stories about them - which we wouldn't have seen when walking around by ourselves.
Visiting what's left of the Berlin wall was an emotional experience for me. Being there and seeing all the photos was confronting, but at the same time I was so glad that I took the time to visit this piece of Berlin history
Beautiful tour guide in easy to understand English, our guide is American from NYC, great culture and knowledge of history
