We had Steven as our tour guide for the battle of Berlin. He was incredibly knowledgeable, informative and friendly. He really helped piece Berlin as it would’ve been in 1945. The owner of the tour was also incredibly helpful and responsive with any query’s I had. Would 100% recommend.

Itinerary
Our journey begins at the meeting point on the southern side of the modern Hauptbahnhof (Berlin Main Station). Following a ten-minute introduction to set the scene we make our way to the Moltke Bridge.
This red sandstone ornate structure became the scene of some of the city’s most brutal fighting. Here we orientate ourselves to the Soviet 3rd Shock Army’s axis of advance and discuss the key challenges for the Soviets and the German defenders.
After making our way across the Moltke Bridge we reach the then Interior Ministry, nicked named the “Himmler House” in the old diplomatic quarter. Following a Soviet artillery barrage at point blank range we discuss the horrific room to room fighting that took place here.
Continuing to ‘no man’s land’ we stand on the former Königsplatz and take stock of the 300m moon scape the 207th and 150th rifle divisions would have to cross before reaching the Reichstag.
As we walk toward the Reichstag, we discuss Hitler’s final moments in the Führer bunker only a few hundred meters away. Once at the foot of the Reichstag the moment has come to hear the stories of Sergeant Yegorov and Sergeant Kantariya and how they raised special banner No.5 on the roof – signifying the end.
During the final days of the Battle of Berlin, the Wiedendammer Bridge was one of the few bridges still intact over the Spree. On the night of May 1st, 1945, it was the scene of terrible carnage following a breakout attempt from the Führerbunker.

Steve who did the tour for us was very informed and was happy to answer any question. A man set with a real skill set of a historian enhanced the tour. Great time , thank you.
Steve was excellent, informative and engaging throughout. It was a great experience for anyone interested in the battle for Berlin and history in general!
Matt was our guide for the Battle of Berlin - WWII Battlefield Tour. He took us on a small journey through downtown Berlin explaining how things have changed in the city since WWII by showing current landmarks and displaying pictures of what they used to look like on a tablet. He was excellent at answering any questions we had and sharing his thoughts. We would happily book another tour with Matt in the future if we return to Berlin.
We were blessed to have a small group for this tour. Steve did an amazing job pointing out the key sites and even brought additional images to help us further understand. Great tour, well worth the time and money
Excellent tour!! Jochin was incredibly knowledgeable and gave us an interesting and educational tour that we both enjoyed. I would highly recommend this tour for anyone interested in the Battle of Berlin!
Steve is an absolutely terrific professional guide. He is highly knowledgeable, organized, thoroughly prepared, and delivers a fun and interactive battlefield touring experience. Walking over the ground in Berlin where the final battle for the Reichstag took place was highly evocative and made me like I had a first hand account of the savage fighting in those fateful days of late April and early May in 1945. I highly recommend this tour!
Our experience last week was truly educational, deeply spiritual, and incredibly meaningful. Steve, our guide, brought everything to life with his engaging, friendly, and fun approach. Over three days, we explored key Berlin battle sites, Soviet war cemeteries, Seelow, and many significant Jewish and Holocaust landmarks across the city. We highly recommend On the Front Tours and will definitely use them again on our next visit to Berlin.
I have to say this tour was excellently put together by Front Line Tours and delivered by Jochen. His ability to build a story line and deliver it is an easy and understandable way is an exceedingly rare skill. Well, done Jochen. I highly recommend these tours.
An excellent walking tour telling the story of the Battle of Berlin. It was a small group led by Steve who was a fantastic guide. He was so incredibly knowledgeable and passionate and was able to answer any question and engage in discussion. Two of the group had an extensive knowledge of war history while my daughter and I didn't have the same background awareness. However, we still thoroughly enjoyed it, with Steve's use of maps and photographs making it come to life and allowing us to learn along the way. Great value for money. We would definitely book another tour with On the Front Tours again.
Lots of history. Jochen was our guide, Excellent! I learned a lot, my son who is a history buff had many in depth conversations. Wonderful experience.
Very knowledgeable guide who tailors the guide based on the participant’s knowledge and interests. Shares before and after photos of the battle sites to give context to each stop. Additional information about the history of each location is also presented. The very definition of an insider’s guide to the battle.
Trip cancelled night before, to continue we were asked to pay fee of additional €110 if we wished to go as a private tour. As this was too expensive we cancelled and rebooked a different tour for €18 with a different company and it was great.
Our guide, Steve, was fantastic! The info he gave was engaging and he really brought to life what happened in those final few weeks and hours. We had to adapt the tour slightly due to a biblical rain storm, but that didn't really matter as we had already seen the main sites we were going to visit, it was just great to hear his narrative. My 11 year old really enjoyed it, and was recanting some facts and figures to his pals once we returned home.
Great tour - very comprehensive Roshana was so thorough. Provided insightful context to the war history of Berlin. Highly recommend.
Our tour guide was extremely knowledgeable. The small group was great as everyone had a chance to hear and ask questions. Very interesting and enjoyable tour.
A great experience, Steve our guide was extremely knowledgeable. The photos and maps he brought along really helped understand the tactics and realities faced by all involved. There were only 8 of us so it felt like a really personalised experience with lots of time for discussion.
An comprehensive overview of Hitler’s rise to power, the end of WW2 and the building and the liberation of the people on the East side of the wall. Roshanna was an excellent guide - her knowledge of this time period and sites along the way. Trainee guide Steve came along too - fabulous insights from both. Visited many historic places along the way including Hitler’s ‘burial’ place!
Great Tour with Roshana. Very friendly and smart. Berlin is a very special city with a lot of history and great people and food.
Roshana was wonderful. Knowledgeable and enthusiastic. She made the whole history of Berlin during the time of WWII come to life.
Roshana was amazing! So knowledgeable and kind. My family enjoyed the thoroughness and thoughtful integration of the monuments and locations into the narrative of the cityscape
Roshana was amazing! So knowledgeable. Loved learning about Hitler's rise to power, WWII, and the Cold War from her. We stopped at many memorials to victims of the Nazi regime, and we felt that we had enough context from Roshana's preparation to really appreciate each one.
Roxanne was very knowledgeable. She also pointed out the details regarding the brutal Nazi history of the marginalized groups including the disabled, mentally ill, women, LGBTQ and Jewish community. Thank you for your tour.
We enjoyed this tour very much. She was very informative with all her stories. Highly recommend. Tour lasted 3 hours and we saw many sights.
Roshana was absolutely the best.. Enriched our experience with her amazing grasp of the subject. Very enthusiastic presentations... Highly recommend
Roshana was great! We enjoyed the tour very much around Berlin. I would recommend it to friends and family. If you are interested in world war 2 this is a great tour to consider.
The tour was excellent. It is not the typical boring tour where you walk around and just listen to the information being given by the tour guide. It is interactive and it really puts in context the Nazi history, how World War I and II came about, but also brings it all back to today's world politics and issues and similarities. It makes you think and reflect. I totally recommend this tour if you are looking for more than being bored listening to a tour guide.
Roshana did a great job explaining and answering questions during the tour about history of WW2 and the Cold War. Highly recommend.
We were a mixed group in knowledge about the Berlin battle and Matt did a superb job of tailoring his presentation to keep all of us engaged and interested. Overall a fantastic tour that I highly recommend. Thank you Matt!!
Meeting Matt at the HBF for what in effect was a private tour, we followed the line of the Soviet advance across the historic Moltke Bridge and followed the fighting around the Reichstag, culminating in the historic flag raising(s) on the roof of the Reichstag. Matt explained everything in an easy to understand matter, yet in great detail as well. The tour should have lasted an hour, but Matt very kindly extended it by 45 minutes to include the breakout attempts near Friedrichstrasse Station. A real tour de force Matt, thanks very much! I would recommend this tour to anyone interested in Berlin's Gotternammerung in April and May of 1945.
The guide was great-friendly and proficient The tour was very intersting and informative Recommended gor history lovers
Difficult to find online, but the tour itself very informative, great tour guide. overall a great experience.
Our tour guide Mark was very friendly, knowledgeable and accomodating. He made the tour extremely interesting and entertaining! Mark has a great grasp on this battle, and he amazed us with how much information he packed into the hour. Even after the tour concluded, we enjoyed continuing our discussion with him at length with the many questions my husband had. Professional and thorough tour that included the scope and sequence of this intense battle to the very heart of Berlin!
