Brilliant tour. Our guide Nora was fantastic. She was clearly very passionate & knowledgeable about the topic. It opened my mind and my appreciation for this genre and what it is communicating to us. I will be forever glancing upwards as I walk through our cities hoping to catch a glimpse of a piece of art and trying to decipher the message for us passing by. Highly recommend 😊

Absolutely brilliant! Our tour guide, Adrian (who was the initial founder of the Alternative Berlin tours, and has been doing them for decades) was phenomenal and passionate, and had an infinite supply of unique stories and personal anecdotes about Berlin as we walked around. The graffiti stopovers were very interesting and the places we visited/stopped outside were eclectic and not the type of tourism that you would find easily on your own; highlights included the Treehouse at the Wall and Naam, the Jamaican beach bar. The walk was quite long, but there were many stops where Adrian was speaking, including one where people could sit down. The only problem (well, half problem) was that, because of how passionate Adrian was, the tour overran massively and we had to leave at the second to last stop because we were too hungry! Would recommend bringing a sandwich or other food just in case your tour also overruns, but overall, a brilliant experience that everyone visiting Berlin should do.
great value for the ticket price in a small and friendly group. the tour guide Jonathan is very knowledgeable, accomodating and kind. if you’re after the history of berlin’s alternative underground in a bite sized package, i recommend this tour. it gave me lots of cool places to come back and check out during my visit here
Had a great time. Friendly. Small group. Informative and fun. Can def recommend for solos those travelling as friends or couples.
This was a very informative tour that I discovered by chance, and I’m glad I joined. I received answers to many of my questions, and the experience felt well-organized and engaging. After the tour, I also visited some of the recommended places and had the opportunity to support local artists, which added extra value to the experience. The atmosphere felt warm and welcoming, reminding me of the environment I grew up in. Although I live in a smaller place, this experience made me appreciate Berlin much more. Jake was a knowledgeable and lively guide who made the tour enjoyable throughout. I would definitely recommend this tour to others.
Nice Guide! Jake! Interesting stories!
Very knowledgeable and immersed in the subject. The tour was informative and fun, would very much recommend.
This tour is one of the best things you can do while in Berlin. 3 hours of walking through Mitte and Kreuzberg, we learnt about Berlins street art and squatting culture, the context of immigrants in shaping culture and art and had some of the best hot chocolate.
This is an incredibly well put-together tour. It takes you into a side of Berlin less-seen by tourists and you get a real feel for the vibrancy and creativity of the city. Along with information on Berlin as it is now, there is plenty of history and stories of how it got this way. You learn about architecture, the East/West divide, community anctivism and how artists are making a living now. Our guide. Anton, is a working street artist and was warm, friendly and ready to answer everyone’s questions. Everything seemed packed closer together than the history tours of Berlin, so this 3-hour tour is packed with interesting things to see.
The guide was excellent, linking street art to recent history of Berlin. He showed a real in-depth understanding of the area. We had been worried 3 hours was too much but it flew by.
Fantastic tour. Jake, our guide, was extremely informative and interesting. Gave us a real insight into Berlin and also helped us get our bearings a bit on our first visit. Would highly recommend. Even our 15 yo daughter enjoyed it!
A really fun and informative tour led by a super knowledgeable guide. This tour gives you a bit of Berlin’s complex history from all the post-war eras, I felt like I was getting to see a very lived-in slice of the city which I wouldn’t have found otherwise. Would highly recommend.
I really loved this tour! I would like to see something else, than the known sights in Berlin, as I have seen them before, so I booked a "Off-the-beaten-path tour" which is a 3 hour walking tour in the Mitte, Kreuzberg and Friedrichshain area. Our guide Lee was very knowledgeable, and I learned a lot about the history of Berlin that I did not know beforehand. He also told a lot of short storys of people and places, that I find very interesting. I absolutely recommend this tour to everyone! PS: wear good shoes!
Great tour led by Reece. Very enthusiastic and knowledgeable about the alternative scene in Berlin. Dead Chicken Alley was fascinating. Kreutzberg was an area we wouldn’t have discovered on our own. Good to see a different side of Berlin.
Cole was an amazing tour guide! He was friendly, knowledgeable and took the time to make sure everyone got what they wanted out of the tour. We got to see interesting parts of Berlin we wouldn’t have found on our own.
My mom and I did 2 tours with Alternative Berlin Tours. First, we did the Real Berlin Tour. This tour was boring and didn’t cover what was advertised. I wouldn’t recommend it. There were a lot of people on the tour so they split us into 2 groups with 2 different guides. First we were with Leo/Theo (unsure exactly what their name was), who spoke so softly that we could barely hear the tour at all. Because of this, we ended up moving to the other guide’s group, whose name I don’t know since we joined the tour late (he had a mohawk and a punk rock vibe). He spent an inordinate amount of time babbling about himself and his own experience living in Berlin. It was so pointless that we ended up leaving the tour at the break and walking around the neighborhood with Rick Steve’s self-guided walking tour instead. Second, we did the Street Art Tour. Our guide was Susanna. We liked this tour, and after doing other tours and sight-seeing in Berlin focused on history, it was cool to do a tour that focused more on Berlin in the present. The art that we saw was interesting, and there was definitely a benefit in going with a guided tour vs. just walking around the area because it helped us notice things we wouldn’t otherwise have seen or understood. We appreciated that Susanna also made an effort to feature diverse artists (women, POC, artists from different countries, commissioned vs. illegal street art, etc.). Susanna was overall a great, lively, and engaging guide! Our only complaint about the tour is that it was extremely hot (90 degrees F), and everyone on the tour seemed to be suffering and trying to find shade, yet Susanna would regularly ask us to move to stand next to her in the sun at each stop. Also, instead of using the ticket we were instructed to bring on the tour, Susanna had us walk 15min in the full sun instead. In other weather this would have been no big deal, but since it was a very hot day, we ended the tour completely wiped out and drenched in sweat.
I wish i could remember the tour guides name, she was great. I also wish i took this tour on my first day i arrived as they give you great tips on neighborhoods, shopping, where to see music, and restuarants. Unfortunately saved it for the last day. I will have to go back!
Fantastic (american) guide with really good knowledge of Berlin. Artist himself, living in Berlin for years now, he could explain all about the scene of art, music, young culture and underground.
This tour is a must! We got to see a whole another side of Berlin and it was amazing! Our tour guide was so funny and nice and we had the best time ever!
Unfortunately, the tour was canceled shortly before the planned start, so we could not book or plan an alternative. An early cancellation would be desirable. Refund policy is also unclear; only an offer to book a new tour was made. Of course, we are no longer in Berlin. There is still plenty of room for improvement in communication here. It's a pity; it could have been a nice tour.
Magnificent dive into the richness of Berlin street art. Visit to the heart of the city's soul and the spirit that makes its pulse beat. The guide is himself part of the Berlin art scene, and his insights are full of passion.
