A genuine question to the hotel manager: Since when did "sharing a bedroom with where animals sleep" become the default hotel experience? €130 a night and I was placed in a room with a dog bed right next to the human bed, without a single warning that I was staying in a room clearly full of pet hair and animal dander. Since when is it acceptable to assign guests to a pet room without informing them first? Not everyone wants to spend the night surrounded by animal hair, and guests should not have to discover that only after waking up with a medical reaction. I woke up the next morning with severely swollen eyes. Two days later, I am still suffering from the reaction - and just to be clear I do not have a dog allergy. Whatever was in that room, it clearly wasn't cleaned to an acceptable standard. This happened during a business trip with client meetings, making the entire situation even more unacceptable. As if that wasn't enough, the hotel was apparently overbooked on purpose. After I checked in, two guests with reservations were told there were no rooms available for them. So apparently the business model is: sell rooms you don't have and put guests in allergen-filled rooms you don't warn them about. Genuine question: who is accountable when a guest checks into a hotel room and checks out with a medical reaction? Medically unsafe. Unhygienic. Completely unacceptable. Seriously, who runs this place?!!!!
Had a nice stay on a very hot weekend! Crazily enough, the power went out for a few hours, but everything remained orderly. The rooms are spacious and air conditioned. If you're looking for an escape from the city, I recommend this hotel - compete with a pool and sauna. There are cozy towels and robes for guests at the front desk. And a REWE is within walking distance from the hotel. I took the S-Bahn + Uber on the way there and a bus and S-Bahn on the way back, making it very affordable when traveling from the city. My Cozy room came with a shower AND bathtub, which was great. It also had a nice balcony!
Our airline cancelled our flight and arranged accommodation for us at this hotel. Unfortunately, due to an error by the airline, only one room was booked for a group of eight people. When we arrived around 5:00 p.m., the Front Office Manager and his colleague informed us that the hotel was fully booked. We then spent more than three and a half hours desperately searching for rooms for the remaining six people. During this time, we even asked the two reception employees for the phone numbers of nearby hotels, so they were fully aware that we were trying to find accommodation elsewhere. By pure chance, we checked the Van der Valk website and were surprised to see that at least two rooms, with enough capacity for seven people, were available for immediate booking. We went back to reception and booked those rooms without any issue. When we politely asked why these rooms had not been offered to us in the first place, we received several inconsistent explanations that were not convincing. The conversation became tense, and instead of trying to understand the situation, we were threatened with the police after what had already been an extremely stressful evening. The following day, the Reservation Manager listened to our concerns, understood what had happened, and handled the situation professionally. We really appreciated her attitude. I don't believe the staff intended to cause us any harm. However, a clear lack of professionalism and an arrogant attitude from the reception team left us in a very uncomfortable situation for more than three hours, even though the solution was literally available on their own booking system and could have been resolved in just a few minutes. That said, the hotel itself is excellent. The rooms were comfortable, the facilities were very good, and every other member of staff we interacted with was friendly and professional. This negative experience was entirely due to the handling of the situation by the reception team on the evening of our arrival.
