This square featuring a lake and surrounded by museums is right in the city center. A beautiful and important space that will help you understand how the city is planned. It has an amazing view of the mountin Ulriken in the background.
A wide pedestrian avenue and the meeting-point for the people living in Bergen, this beautiful street was built after the great fire as a fire breaker, hence its width. Surrounded by shopping malls and cafes, this lively street will take you from the modern town to the old part of Bergen. There is a lot of historical landmarks along the way that will be explained.
Here you will see all the delicacies from the Norwegian fertile waters. You will be able to taste smoked whale meat and marinated salmon and see the huge king crabs in the water tanks. It is a good spot for having dinner later in the evening as there are 4 restaurants inside the premises.
A unique site from the 13th century full of history. You have certainly seen pictures of this landmark in UNESCO's Heritage Site List, as it represents the image of Bergen.
This is, together with the Hall of Hakon, the oldest of all the buildings in Bergen. It has survived all of the fires that destroyed most parts of the city and has undergone many enlargements according to the different eras it has gone through.
A street with a lot of history. This street right behind Bryggen has many interesting stories, apart from a great view of the many times ignored back part of Bryggen, which shows another perspective of how the tenements were built in the 12th century. From here we will also go through a residential area with many narrow streets. Photogenic spot, with cobble stones and wooden houses, so typical of Bergen.
This part is optional. We can end the tour taking the 3-minute funicular ride to the top of this gorgeous mountain for incredible views of Bergen.

Really enjoyed the walking tour. We were lucky with the weather—it was a sunny day. We love our guide Terre; she was very informative.
Tere, our guide, was excellent, informative and fun. She had terrific stories to tell and her experiences as a teacher, an interpreter and now as a guide, added flavour to those stories. She brought Bergen alive for us. Also her professionalism was outstanding. We thoroughly recommend this tour, and specifically Tere as your guide. Thank you for a terrific experience Tere.
We were fortunate to have Roald lead our walking tour of Bergen. It was the first thing we did upon arriving in the city. Not only did we take us through the heavy duty tourist section, but he pointed out where he recommended shopping, etc. He also pointed out awesome cinnamon rolls/pastries and a sausage stand. Additionally, we wanted to eat and drink like the locals. We popped into a grocery store to pick out a few items…ALL of his suggestions were spot on…everything was amazing! We learned history, significance of the art/architecture/buildings, and navigated our way around the city whilst minimizing the hills. We enjoyed seeing the city through his eyes, and spent a majority of the tour outside the tourist areas and experienced what the locals see, do, shop, etc. He took photos for us, toured us through and around the fish markets, and made sure we knew how to get where we were going following our tour. He was excellent, and we lucked out having him introduce us to the city.
Teresita was absolutely amazing!! She accommodated our special celebration and was very communicative before the trip. She was extremely knowledgeable about the culture, city, and people as we walked around and hit all the key spots. We loved Teresita!
Jana, my guide today exceeded any expectations I could have showing me her home town. Such a beautiful city, from Brrygen to the tram ride to overlook Bergen itself. I mentioned cheese and we when by the fish market to a cheese specialist and many purchases later to take home … vacuum packed I’m in heaven. Such a personable woman, it was my pleasure to see Bergen with Jana. Request her !!!
Our guide Teresita was great. History, modern culture of Norway, food, whatever you ask of her. We were three with a teen daughter abs it was the perfect amount of time before she got too bored. A little pricey but you get to design your own tour. Be warned that you still pay separately to ride to the mountain tops or enter the church. Fantastic and worth it to deepen your understanding of the place and country
Definitely worthwhile tour Jana was friendly and very knowledgeable. I felt a better understanding of Bergen and their history plus Jana gave us much needed information on navigating the rest for a trip with restaurants Sites. Jana was very friendly, professional, and easy to talk to.
Jana contacted me the day before the tour To confirm our meeting point. We met in a nice easy central location and she started our Tour giving us a great history of Bergen. Jana was friendly personable and a wealth of knowledge. Don’t hesitate to book this trip. It will definitely add understanding and enjoyment of the city of Bergen. She also gave recommendations that have helped us navigate.
We had an excellent tour with Neil. My husband and I spent 2 hours exploring and learning so much about the beautiful city and the surrounding area. We learned about the history and culture and Neil was like an Encyclopedia answering all our questions even when we distracted him from the planned route ☺️. He gave great advice on places to visit and eat and really went to extra trouble to find vegetarian restaurants in the area for me. My husband is very interested in history and we really enjoyed the conversation and shared knowledge. A very pleasant and friendly person and we would highly recommend him for this tour.
We did this as part of our group tour of Norway there is a lot to see and we saw a lot The guide found English difficult and so was not very engaging we saw all the main tourist sites Edvard Grieg home Troldhaugen was introduced we had an on-site guide here and she was very engaging with good knowledge We went to the old town where the port warehouses are with all the little tourist shops It was worth doing with only one full day in Bergen best way to see everything
The tour was fantastic! The communication with the organizers was seamless, and Jana, our guide, was exceptional. She was knowledgeable and engaging. We had a great afternoon, and she left us with many tips and suggestions for the remainder of our stay. A 10-out-of-10, all the way around!
The tour was wonderful. Jana was our tour guide and she was amazing. She picked us up from our hotel and gave us a comprehensive and interesting tour of the city of Bergen. She pointed out places we should go back to and even local delicacies. She was extremely knowledgeable and made the tour educational and fun. I would highly recommend asking for her! Her love of the city and it’s history was evident.
Yanni was awesome! Thanks for making the tour informative and fun. It helped us find the areas of the city we wanted to go back and get a closer look at.
Jana was fantastic! This is our second private walking tour, and the experience is totally different than with a big group. She offered to focus on things we were interested in to make the tour more personal. She made several recommendations for places to go, things to see, and restaurants. Would highly recommend.
This was the first time my husband and I visited Bergen. Jana was an excellent tour guide! The destinations she led us to were important and special and we felt comfortable navigating the beautiful city for the remainder of our trip. Jana was knowledgeable, answered our questions and made us laugh! The pace, distance we walked and the length of the tour was perfect. We can’t wait to visit again!
Sonya was a great guide- she took us to all of the places you would want to see in Bergen and provided historical context. She gave us great advice on places to eat, etc. Our luggage was lost on our way to Bergen and she very kindly provided rain jackets for us- that turned a rainy day into a great tour. I would highly recommend taking this tour!!
Very useful and enjoyable.guide was very knowledgeable and accommodating. Kept the tour fun and relaxed.
Travelled to Bergen many times on business trip but never really knew what this city had to offer. Thanks to The Real Experience team for showing me the city. It was worth it and highly recommended
“I signed up for a Real Experience tour of Bergen with Sonia and it was truly wonderful. She was knowledgeable, interesting, personable and professional, while maintaining a sense of humor and vibrant personality. Sonia has vast knowledge of the region and made the landscape and local culture and attractions come alive. I will share her tour information as a lesson for my students in the coming year in teaching them about Norway. I can’t wait to visit! — Daniel Falcone, New York
Our guide Nessy showed us the most important/beautiful sights in two hours during a walk and was able to tell us a lot about mountains and Norway in general. A very nice experience, clear recommendation!!!
Afternoon. Unfortunately, the guide was not presented. It was a very bad experience and irresponsibility on your part. We're waiting for repayment.
It was lovely rain and nice temperature, it's beautiful city and I love Bergen. I wish I lived in Bergen since I love rain.
Very competent and friendly guide. In two hours he summarized the history of Bergen and its most illustrious men as well as talked about the Hanseatic League.
