A hotel designed around its operating model, not its guests Scandic Ørnen feels designed for large tour groups staying one night rather than guests staying several days. Our room was actually very nice, once we asked for the original to be changed, with a great view, but impractical for a longer stay. There was very little storage, yet an enormous empty fridge beside the bed where a chest of drawers would have been far more useful. Towels were thin, there was no milk, daily housekeeping had to be requested and, when serviced, the room wasn’t properly vacuumed. When I asked for extra pillows, I was told to collect them myself from a cupboard at reception. None of this is disastrous, but together it suggests a hotel designed around operational convenience rather than the guest. The same mindset appeared in ROAST. A three-meat sharing platter was served on a cold plate, so the meat quickly cooled. I asked for a warm plate and was told the platter would crack and they could reheat the meat instead. That would simply cook it further. The point wasn’t the plate — it was keeping the food hot. Good hospitality means understanding what the customer is trying to achieve and finding a solution. One important exception: our young waitress in ROAST was excellent — attentive, professional and thoughtful. She understood good service. Good location and some good staff, but for a multi-night stay the overall experience felt more about what works for the hotel than what works for the guest.

I had a decent stay at this hotel. Staff were friendly, rooms were decently sized (but too dark for my taste), and breakfast had good options. Bathroom was a bit dated and the hotel feels like it could use a small renovation. While breakfast was good, it also gets insanely busy and ends too early. People come to Bergen for vacation/holidays, so it would be nice to be able to sleep in and still enjoy breakfast. It was an okay experience all else considered, but I would probably try a different hotel next time.
Great hotel in an excellent location, with easy access to all forms of public transportation. Although it's not right in the city center, it's only about a 10-minute walk, making it very convenient to reach the main attractions. The rooms are spacious, clean, and offer great views. However, we found the storage space a bit limited, and we struggled slightly with the air conditioning controls, as they weren't very intuitive. Unfortunately, the TV remote was missing, and the shower gel wasn't refilled during housekeeping. The breakfast was simply outstanding - excellent quality with a wide variety of options. Don't miss the brunost! We also really appreciated the dedicated gluten-free section, which even included a separate toaster. I would happily recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Bergen for a few days. It's a comfortable, well-located place to stay, and considering Norway's generally high prices, we found it to be excellent value for money and surprisingly affordable.
Located slightly away from the busy center of Bergen, but convenient as many public transport options available. Acceptable noice insulation (no expectation on europe’s noise insulation). When arrived for check-in, a male staff just sat lazily and indecently on high chair, glanced me few times without actively offering help; very different from the proactive staff from another Scandic hotel I stayed days ago. The male staff did not remember hotel’s breakfast time well, that he needed to double check with the post at front desk after I reconfirmed with him. NO parking at hotel as stated in Agoda, need to park at the garage in the opposite street (plenty of slow charging stations available, but never knew how I would be charged until i check out from garage; 15% off discount for hotel guest, remember to register at hotel iPad next to front desk). Information sheet for parking was available at front desk, clear instructions. The room was spacious given that I only booked a single room (two single bed aligned side by side). Broken parts of this and that were easily seen in the room. The kettle was found to still contain water from who knows how long ago, disgusting! And the kettle appeared to be dusty. There was fridge, but less cool than room temperature. The bathroom looked cozy, but found to have broken hose and conditioner. Not to mention the least broken thing was the ‘do not disturb’ sign. 1 night for 1 person costed ~HKD$1000, breakfast included. Given the high cost of living in Norway and especially in popular cities like Bergan, the price is acceptable. Maybe I should not bring Asian standard of cleanliness of hotel to Europe.
Good for bus station, short walk to town centre but better price! Breakfast was extensive and good. Shower was powerfull but some temperature fluctuations. Bed slightly soft with some roll together. Quiet at night except in torrential rain when it drips on the window ledge!
