Not sure why this place gets so much praise. At best, this is a 3-star hotel. The AC didn’t work — the thermostat isn’t wired to anything. Long hairs from either previous occupants or cleaning staff. A dripping noise behind the walls all night that never quit. Think of Hotel 13 as a Best Western trying to act like a W. The only redeeming part was the buffet breakfast, which was genuinely satisfying. They make a killing on the Bergen location alone. You can do better.
A very nice boutique hotel under the Strawberry brand, and one of the few places that can offer a great location for central Bergen without requiring you to mortgage your home to pay for it. The rooms are sizable (particularly by European standards), reasonably well-equipped, and very quiet. They also have the only comfortable beds we’ve found in the Strawberry line of hotels; you actually can get a good night’s rest on them. The only drawbacks are the shower, which waterboards you in a small enclosure while simultaneously drenching the entire bathroom with water spray. The breakfast is good, but the room it is in is far too small, requiring one at times to take their food a flight of stairs up to the bar area. The staff was friendly and helpful, even with the Norwegian hotel strike (which ended during our stay), but expecting one person at the front desk to check in/out guests while simultaneously tending bar and serving drinks is a poor decision on the part of the hotel.
Good location but the room is very meh and service is kinda bad. Sliding doors with large gaps to the bathroom is odd and provide very little privacy. The hotel "reception" is the bar so you have to wait until they finish taking everyone's food and drink orders and some chatting before they would consider checking you in. They ran out of water and oat milk breakfast and never bothered to refill it, and the tables were rather dirty too. Location is good and price is not expensive but I went to a different hotel in the same price range in the same area and it was much better than this.
LOVED. THIS. HOTEL. So gorgeous and a great location. The ceiling is spectacular. Really enjoyed our breakfast. The staff was so kind and very tourist friendly. Our balcony view was so much fun to see the Bergen promenade.
Great location in the center of Bergen. Easily within walking distance to the harbor where most of the tourist shops are and the genuine Norwegian fish restaurants are ($$$). Good rooms, and great hospitality. The breakfast was well above expectations, and very friendly breakfast servers.
