Be careful with the other ratings here. We did not experience this level of service and expertise. Positives: we got a clean car and a friendly driver that did a safe job. But: we were misled by all the overall rating. And from what was said we had the impression of a premium tour. It is not. What we hoped for but did not get: a communicative tour guide that knows more than our travel book. There was no water for us, we had to pay ourselves for a coconut on the way. The driver was friendly and did his best I guess, but he did simply not meet our expectation for an expensive private tour at a steep premium price. We travel worldwide and I believe we know how a good private tour can be. We were simply taken to all advertised stops (one after another), but nothing was special, tailored, proposed and adjusted in a satisfying way. He walked with us, but we were left at stops with no or little explanation (our book and foreign taxi drivers next to us had more details). The Rhumerie and Lunch was the Highlight and is recommended. With all this, I could have taken a taxi driver and pay entry fees myself (one stop was even closed on our day!) and safe a lot of money. Not worth the premium price.

Learn how locally grown sugarcane is carefully harvested and transformed into handcrafted white and aged rums using traditional techniques. During the visit, discover the distillation process, explore the heritage behind Mauritius’ rum culture and enjoy a tasting of selected rums, including varieties crafted with methods inspired by the world of fine spirits.
Enjoy a memorable 3-course lunch at L’Alchimiste, the restaurant of Chamarel Rhumerie, where local flavours take centre stage. Discover one of Mauritius’ most iconic natural wonders — the Seven Coloured Earth of Chamarel. Walk through this fascinating geological site and admire how nature has created a rare and colourful masterpiece that has become a symbol of Mauritius.
Pause at the Chamarel Viewpoint and enjoy breathtaking panoramic views over the charming Chamarel village, surrounded by lush green mountains and valleys. Please note: The Martello Tower Museum visit is available on Wednesdays and Fridays only. On other days, a photo stop will be made outside the tower.
Discover one of Mauritius’ oldest traditional industries at the Tamarin Salt Pans, where sea salt has been harvested for generations using the power of the sun and ocean. Learn how seawater is channelled into large evaporation ponds before skilled salt workers collect the natural salt crystals by hand. This unique stop offers a glimpse into the island’s local traditions, craftsmanship and the simple yet fascinating process behind one of Mauritius’ essential natural products.

We had a great day with Avi seeing much of the natural wonders and enjoying very local food. We were here during a fairly extended New Years break where many businesses were closed for 4 days, but Avi adapted and gave us a wonderful day. We actually had a very different lunch at the Heritage Spice House where they do cooking classes and Unwind has a different tour. It was great and a unique experience.
We had an exceptionally beautiful tour with Unwind Mauritius Tours. Our guide and driver told us many fascinating details about Mauritius and its history and was able to answer all our questions. We were able to discover and fully enjoy some of the island’s most beautiful places. We will definitely be back!
Amazing tour of the South West we saw beautiful view had a delicious lunch and had an amazing guide in Avi. Would highly recommend this trip.
This guide was really helpful, full of knowledge. Take care of everything. Adjust the sightseeing with our favorite places. Really appreciate the day.
If you’re hesitating to book this trip don’t! This was one of the highlights of our fantastic holiday to Mauritius. Our guides Avi and Jaya were just amazing and so knowledgeable. We were genuinely blown away by their hospitality and they customised the tour to fit in all that we wanted to see. The highlights were the traditional breakfast and the superb lunch at the Rhumerie De Chamarel. We will definitely be back and look forward to meeting both our hosts again. Thank you again.
The communication before the day was prompt and informative. Avi our driver collected us from our hotel at the agreed time. The SUV was clean inside and out, water was provided and the air conditioning worked effectively. We were asked what type of things we were interested in and our day was planned accordingly. All the many sights were well worth visiting, we especially liked the rhumerie and the cashmere clothes factory shop. Avi was very pleasant, polite and informative. He took care of all admin so we could fully enjoy all the experiences without queuing. All in all a thoroughly wonderful day to remember.
We had an incredible experience on the Southwest Mauritius tour! We were able to explore so many beautiful and diverse sights, and the natural beauty of Mauritius completely took our breath away. From lush landscapes to stunning viewpoints, every stop was more beautiful than the last. Our guide was fantastic—extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive. He made sure to accommodate all our requests and went out of his way to ensure we had a memorable day. His passion for the island was evident, and his insights made the experience even more special. I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Mauritius. It’s the perfect way to experience the island’s natural wonders, and you’ll leave with unforgettable memories. Definitely set aside a day for this tour!
Avi was an exceptional guide! He arrived promptly to pick us up from our hotel and took the time to get to know us, which allowed him to customise the tour stops based on our interests. His extensive knowledge of Mauritius and the sites we visited made the entire experience even more engaging. We learned so much from him throughout the day, with interesting details about both the island and each stop we made. At every stop, we had plenty of time to explore, never feeling rushed. I highly recommend the Southwest tour, Mauritius' natural beauty is truly breathtaking. One highlight was the visit to the Chamarel Rum Distillery, where we learned about the rum-making process, sampled a wide variety of rums, and enjoyed a delicious meal. A big shout-out to Avi for making the day truly unforgettable! His passion for the island and attention to detail made all the difference. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide or experience!
Highly recommend a tour with Unwind Mauritius! We had a great day touring the island. Very knowledgeable guides. They adapt the tour to your personal preferences. We had a lot of fun and absolutely recommend using them if spending some time in Mauritius!
Avi, our driver, gave us an exceptional service, was informative, friendly and helpful. He was very knowledgeable about all the sites we visited and about Mauritius history. He arranged a great experience of lunch at the Rhumerie de Chamarel, including a special celebration of our honeymoon, and made the whole experience very relaxing and not rushed in any way. He also went the extra mile to find some glue for my glasses, which had broken. A true gentleman.
This what not quite the trip we were promised. We only got to see half the sights we were promised. Ravi our driver was not that experienced ( he told me that this was his fourth trip). The car was not what we would call a SUV. When we got in the car the middle seat belt was missing , it took 10 minutes or so to rectify it. We also had to stop and sit in the car whilst our driver got water ( surely this should be in a cool box and in the car already). Communication was poor- Ravi drove past one of the sights we were meant to see and said we would see it on the way back. During lunch our driver ordered a Pina Colada - a driver drinking alcohol! On the way back it was far too dark to go and see the waterfall and another sight. On the way back to the hotel ( over a 2 hour drive) Ravi got lost twice and took us to the wrong hotel. We did see some of the sights and Ravi did take us to other sights as the road was shut to the lighthouse ( this should have been told to us prior to the booking I thought). We were very disappointed- not the experience we were expecting or promised.
Fabulous day out! I enjoyed seeing the beautiful scenery, hearing about Mauritian history, culture and food and, of course, rum tasting! Avi is a great guide. I definitely recommend this tour!
Amazing day out, saw so many sites and Avi was brilliant! Tailored the tour to what we wanted to see of this beautiful island, its history and culture. Thank you
We enjoyed a whole day all inclusive outing to South West of Mauritius Island. We were met by our most amicable guide for the day a real knowledgeable polyglot and the taxi driver equally talented linguist and safe driver! We enjoyed the day fully packed sight seeing. First we visited a shop that sold many varieties of different flavoured Rums even a bottle with a dodo within! It was a pleasant rum tasting experience. This shop was very elegant well stocked with local merchandise most tempting unusual cushion covers with dodos long since sadly extinct! Scarves, t shirts, dresses, shorts, shirts, swimwear, nik naks and more. We then visited the Hindu Temple Ganga Talau with Nandi Bull and other impressive Deity Statues as well as the sacred lake with waters from the Ganges River. We received the blessing on the forehead as well as the red cotton thread blessing from the Sanyasi . Within the Temple we received another blessing on the forehead Tilak. The hoot of this visit for me was seeing the several cats watching fish swimming tantalisingly close to them so cute! The next visit was to the amazing model boat making factory in which local artisans displayed their craft of so many varieties of vessels all accurately created in varying model sizes. Our guide and some workers were amazed and delighted as we were too on seeing the Amerigo Vespucci model and our photos of us having actually been invited to visit this very same life size training Clipper. This was followed by a tea tasting we felt so honoured as the Late Queen Elizabeth II had done amongst other famous world leaders. Suitably refreshed after delicious leaf tea tasting we headed for the lunch at the Avalon Golf Course. This was a real treat a served lunch Nouvelle Cuisine Style but with generous portions and artistically very beautifully presented. Earlier we had visited the Trou aux Cerfs extinct Volcano 2 million year old crater which we viewed in safety from a viewing platform .We then visited the Three Gorges National Park with the double waterfall, the 7 coloured earth, the pond with the congregation of giant turtles some seemingly burying their heads in the earth ready for hibernation maybe. The day ended with a welcome visit to a rum factory and more rum tasting most deliciously flavoured Rums also a new departure of various rum flavoured jams. Then a long drive back to our Hotel feeling tired, happy and relaxed as we drove through beautiful scenery mountainous planes, fields of cane sugar, tea plantations, and more.
We had a superb day out with our very knowledgeable and friendly guide, Sandeep. He was flexible and planned the day to arrive at specific places at the best times. A proud Mauritian, he was keen to show us his country and conveyed extensive knowledge on everything from culture to food and wildlife. Some of the roads in Mauritius are very tight with sharp turns. This can be uncomfortable for people who may suffer from travel sickness. Overall, we thoroughly recommend this trip, especially if you want to get out of the resort and see Mauritius. Also, the inclusive lunch at the Chamerel rhumerie is superb. The chicken and prawn curry is very nice.
We booked this trip mainly on the reviews on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed, but it actually exceeded our expectations. Avi picked us up at our hotel, he explained the itinerary for the day and checked what we would like to see. We set off, stopping at various stops and photo viewpoints along the way. His knowledge and passion of Mauritius comes across throughout the day, it’s like spending a day with a new friend. We stopped at Rhumerie De Chamarel for some rum tasting and a 3 course lunch. So, if finally I can give you some advice, it is to just book a tour with Unwind Mauritius, you will have a fabulous day out taking home many memories of beautiful Mauritius 🇲🇺
Avi's unparalleled knowledge of the island, combined with his professionalism and radiant positivity, transformed our day into an unforgettable memory. He didn't just adapt the tour to our preferences; he continuously ensured our utmost satisfaction and comfort. With the lux Range Rover and Avi's meticulous attention to detail, we were immersed in a truly first-class experience. Look no further—this is the only booking you need!
Our day with Avi and Jaya was amazing! If you’re coming to Mauritius, do yourself a favor and book a tour with them on your first full day. He is effortlessly knowledgeable about everything Mauritius. He started the day by understanding what our groups interests were. He then came up with a tour that would hit the things we would be most interested in. Also plan to leave a couple days of your trip open because Avi was able to help us plan the rest of our days to make sure we were maximizing our time. I can’t recommended Avi and his tours enough!!
We had an amazing trip with our amazing guide, Avi! We ate street food which was a delight and recommend everyone to taste. The shipbuilding factory was one of the highlights including seven coloured sands and Chamarel distillery.
Had a great time . Ourguide was a lovely young lady called Jaya. She and the gentlemanwith her were both gracious, patient and engaging.
Our lovely guides showed off this part of their magical island - including Mountain and ocean views, temples, and lunch at the rum distillery. A lot packed in without feeling rushed. Very nice car, we had a lovely day. They have a deep understanding of their island and culture and we loved hearing the stories.
Great tour with a super guide Avi. From delicious street food to a fab lunch at the distillery at Chamarel Avi tailored our day to suit all our party. Despite the awful rain we saw fantastic scenery, the Hindu temple at Grande Bassin to zip lining at Vallee de Coleurs. We had a fantastic time and would thoroughly recommend taking one of Avi’s tours. We will definitely be doing another when we return.
The guide was well experienced friendly and we love this tour. It was off season in July still the guide was able to reschedule the spots on the tour on the same day
Seeing the Alexandra and Chamarel Waterfalls, visiting the national Park, the volcano, having lunch in a restaurant where also Rum is produced, visiting the seven colours formation and the Shiva statue, the hindi sacred lake and Temple, the tea plantation and least the Lighthouse .
Avi was a wonderful and knowledgeable tour guide. He arrived promptly and customized the tour to our interests. Every location we visit did not disappoint. Highly recommend!
We had a really well tailored experience which we will never forget, got more than we expected and he took the time to know us and figure out what we like to more it unique and custom to us. Thanks so much!
The trip was fantastic, Avi was friendly, informative and fun to spend the day with. He tailored the tour to our interests, so was very flexible. We had a lovely surprise by having a taste of traditional street food for breakfast and lunch was delicious. Definitely will be booking again next year.
Excellent tour and great tour operator. So much seen in a day and excellent hospitality. Thanks Avi!
Wonderful day out with Avi. He took such good care of us and told us so much about this beautiful island. We managed to see so much in a day and such a variety of attractions. The day was tailored to see and do what we wanted. From beautiful scenery and off the beaten track sights to fun on the quad bikes. Thanks for a great day !
We were picked up at our hotel by our guide Avi who was so friendly and courteous. He had thought of everything, having cold water and snacks in his car ready for us. He explained the nature of his tour and tailored it to our needs. He was chatty and explained a lot of Mauritian history to us as we drove. We first visited a local street food cafe which we would not have found without his help; he ensured we were happy trying the food which was delicious. We visited Cashmere Polo club and following a tour around the factory, we then had opportunity to purchase. The tour included all the wonderful historical and beautiful natural sites of Mauritius, a model ship factory, a wonderfully amazing Hindu Temple, the largest in the country and Avi explained the meaning of the religious figures to us which was most fascinating. We had a really enjoyable lunch at and tour around a rum factory and was able to taste the rums made there. It was a nice touch that Avi joined us for lunch and made the tour experience more special. On the way back to our hotel, Avi even kindly dropped off at a supermarket to see if we could get some locally made Gin for us to try. Although unsuccessful, Avi, you will be happy to hear we did manage to get some at the Airport. We are so glad we chose this tour and we are pleased to call Avi our friend. We would gladly repay the favour if ever considered visiting Yorkshire. Thank you so much Avi for the photos too.
A rain interrupted day was expertly navigated by Avi and he packed in a really good mix of activities including an excellent lunch. It is all inclusive as stated and he is a charming knowledgeable host (and he takes great photographs!).
Avi was a great guide. Good conversation and he takes the time to understand what is important to you. I only one day left to explore the island and he made sure we covered a lot of ground. The food stops were really good too.
We can only thank Unwind Mauritius and the incredibly dedicated and knowledgeable Avi, for an immersive action packed day, experiencing so much of what this amazing island has to offer. The whole day was seamless with a touch of luxury (thanks to the private rum tasting and fantastic lunch) mixed in with a really authentic experience (the best street food we’ve ever had, seeing Mauritian handicrafts) whilst packing in to the day, the most breathtaking sights and views across the south, all made the more interesting thanks to Avi’s knowledge and clear love for both the island, it’s people and its rich history. Thank you for an unforgettable day and for all the amazing photos you got of us! See you next time!
We had a wonderful experience with a knowlegeable guide, named Avi, that went above and beyond to make our trip a memorable one. He made sure that we are safe and comfortable and that we pack in one day all that Mauritius has to offer in regard of flavors, sightseeing places, local cuisine, lots of information and cultural experiences. We highly appreciated the good manners. In addition, he was a very good planner and contacted us a day before in order to arrange all details and adjunsted along the way. We strongly recommend him for tourists that want to have an unique Mauritian experience.
Avi (tour guide/part owner) was a joy! Kind, knowledgeable, accommodating, fun! Mauritius is a jewel of an island and he made it come alive! Be engaging and it will payoff handsomely! First time to Mauritius (and grueling to get here from SFO) but *SO* worth the price of admission!
So many amazing places. Chamarel Water fall was very beautiful and the Black Gorge was jaw dropping. Lunch and rum tasting is something you cannot miss. Our guide, Avi, took us to a small village to have dholl puri and experience the family create the spilt pea pancakes filled with bean curry. Too many fabulous sites to mention. One of the best tours we have enjoyed on all all our travels. A night thank to ours guides and now our friend Avi.
This is a great trip. It is a full day and a packed itinerary. Avi and Jaya make wonderful guides - they know the island extremely well and were wonderful company. All the spots on the route are great to see, but as it is a private tour they are more than willing to deviate on locations and timings to suit their guests. We chose this tour because it was one of the few to make their lunch stop at L'Alchimiste restaurant at Rhumerie de Chamarel, which was a great decision, but we enjoyed every stop on the tour and the time we spent with our guides. I don't think there is a better choice for a comprehensive tour of the south west, and we look forward to returning and trying some of their other tours.
A private highlight tour with expert, friendly guide Avi.... to the most beautiful places in the South West. Clean vehicle. Entrance and lunch were booked and included in the price
We made a total of 5 excursions with Avi who is a great guide, in love with his island, attentive especially with children and good advice even outside his visits to him. He also took some great pictures of us. He was flexible which made us feel very comfortable with young children. It allowed us to discover beautiful places.
The activities were cool the pool is big but sometimes a little cold, the sea was beautiful and the animations were super cool and there was a good atmosphere with the G.O Teens Mathew and Coralie who are really nice and integrated us perfectly
An exciting discovery of part of the island. Avi, punctual, considerate is a Guide whose skills, knowledge we appreciated.
We spent an incredible day with our Guide Avi who is as competent as he is attentive. This route is really great because it is very varied, combining beautiful views, visits to extraordinary places and a lunch worthy of the best hotels on the island. Thanks to Avi we learned a lot about the island, its origins, its history, , its customs, its economic development model, ecological issues etc... As the weather was rainy at times we were very happy to travel in this comfortable SUV and our Guide showed flexibility and initiative so that this small inconvenience was no longer one. Last but not least, the format of this day is ideal because it is very well studied: neither too much nor too little.
We spent a wonderful day with Ari. What beautiful discoveries including chamarel rum (special mention for lunch and tasting), Hindu temple, land of 7 colors and all magnificent views! Thank you very much! We highly recommend this tour ⭐️⭐️‐️!
We really enjoyed the tour with Avi. He was very attentive, accommodating and planned the tour appropriately for and with us. We always felt that it was important to him, that we had a great experience and we had that! The tour is absolutely family friendly, our children had a lot of fun, the running paths were not too far and they were welcome everywhere. Avi took great family pictures of us.
We had a great day with our guide Avi. Very courteous, pleasant and we learned a lot. A beautiful day I highly recommend
Great place panoramic view I have pictures but the format is too big to visit Our guide explained everything
