Percy was absolutely amazing! To start, he made himself available to pick my wife and I up early upon request. Secondly, Percy is extremely personable and knowledgeable about Belize’s history and culture. We had an amazing time talking about birds of the region and facts about the area/things we saw! I highly highly highly recommend choosing Percy as your Altun Ha excursion choice!

Itinerary
At this archaeological reserve, your guide will allow a few minutes for you to change into your tubing gear or swimwear. In the meantime, he will be preparing your tubes and other gears until you are finished. You'll then begin your 15 minute educational hike through the lush rain forest trails with your guide leading the way. After this trek, you'll be at the entrance of the "Mayan Under World"; the cave. Feel free to take a dip in the crystal clear water with your guide to cool down before you begin! Sit back and relax for the next hour and a half as your guide pulls you through the cave; pointing out pristine crystals and other natural formations along the way. Become submerged in ancient Mayan history and one of a kind grandeur. Take your cameras so that you can photograph the beauty of the large "cenote" or sinkhole and waterfall inside the cave system. Upon exiting the cave you will float on the open river for at least 25 minutes before arriving at the start/end point again.
The Ancient Mayan city of Altun Ha is considered as one of Belize's most popular Mayan cities, internationally known for being the home of the largest piece of 'jade' carving ever discovered in the Mayan world. With earliest evidences of settlement dating back to 200 B.C, it boast 2 large plazas that host the discovery of rich tombs which indicates that the ruling elite enjoyed access to substantial amounts of exotic goods. And although no specific cause was found to explain the decline of Altun Ha, it is believed to began around 900 A.D. Enjoy a peaceful guided tour filled with plenty native flora and fauna like toucans, parrots, iguanas, orchids, flowers and fruit trees and countless cedar and mahogany trees which create a safe place for numerous species of birds. Restrooms, a museum and even local souvenir shops are onsite.

What and amazing day! Percy added the Altun Ha Mayan ruins to our trip without hesitation as we were close. He went above and beyond to make sure we had a great time. We ziplined and did the cave tour as well. Our adventure was totally awesome and did not disappoint! Percy is very knowledgeable about the history of Belize and shares many stories and adventures. He called me before our travel date to let me know what to expect and what we would need. He spent 10 hours with us and it was like we had been friend for a lifetime...very personable and has a great attitude...he LOVES what he does! Highly recommend booking with Royal Belizean Adventures!
the cave rafting was incredible. the ruins were worth seeing . i was very disappointed with lunch . i paid a great deal for my tour , lunch was one flour tortilla with stewed chicken and watermelon juice , no rice or beans . i expected more for over $200 each .
We were not able to go on our adventure due to a tropical storm that came through. The company was very accommodating, and offered to rebook for another day or activity. We couldn’t due this due to travel plans, but received a prompt refund. I will reach out next time we’re in Belize and use Royal Belizean Adventures. I’m impressed with their quick response and handling of the situation.
This tour was amazing one of the best i have been on , Jeff was awesome very knowledgable , assertive and safe , everything me and my wife wanted to know he had the answers; we would definetly recommend jeff as a tour guide ; and this tour; the experience was great jeff made us feel right at home......
Jeff was an amazing guide and an exceptional host. We had a great time and saw howler monkeys on river while cave tubing. We got in before the big cruise tours and had a personalized experience. Thank you Jeff!
Fred was our tour guide. When we booked we didn’t realize that it would be just my wife and myself. It worked out great and he was friendly, professional and very accommodating. Loved the cave experience. The ruins provided some insight into ancient Mayan civilization and Fred was very knowledgeable. The lunch was simple and delicious.
Joey was our guide and we really lucked out. He was so great, really educated us on the history of Belize and present day. I would absolutely book another tour with him. We had such a great time!
I had arranged with the owner, Percy, to be picked up at my resort for a day trip to Altun Ha and cave kayaking. I would be accompanying some people being picked up from a cruise ship, but since Altun Ha and the caves were in opposite directions, I would be picked up first, then the others, and we would go first to the cave. The cave kayaking at Nohoch Che'en was great! Our driver and guide, Jeff Dawson, was pleasant, personable, and professional. It was AFTER experiencing the cave, and I mentioned the ruins, that Jeff informed me that the other people had signed on to go to the howler monkey sanctuary, and we were not going to Altun Ha! He seemed genuinely surprised that I had expected otherwise. Owner Percy did not care to address this, other than to claim it was an "honest mistake" on his part ... despite all the repetitions of Altun Ha and ruins, and his explanation regarding pickup arrangements that Altun Ha was in the opposite direction from the caves, necessitating that I be picked up before the cruise vacationers, rather than after. Essentially, too bad, I asked for A and was given B, there's nothing he could do about it, and no compensation was forthcoming. Horse manure!
Company canceled trip at the very moment we were scheduled for pickup claiming the caves were dangerous and closed. Luckily we found a travel agent at our hotel that knew people that worked at the caves and turns out it was still open and we went with another company. It was absolutely not dangerous as a matter of fact it was extremely tame. I completely understand canceling but why lie? And why couldn’t they still come get us and do the rest of the tour with the ruins half? Good customer service wouldn’t be just cancel even if this was the case, I would expect someone to contact me and see if there was something they could do with us instead of just leaving us stranded for the day.
This was the highlight of my trip! Our guide, Percy, picked us up at our hotel near Belize City early in the morning. He was incredibly knowledgeable, friendly, and personable. We learned a lot about the history and culture of the country from him as we drove between sites. *This review is a little long so if you want a quick review here it is: do this trip. The cave tubing is more incredible than you can imagine, Altun Ha lets you exist in the same space as the ancient Mayans, and Belizean lunch is some of the best food you will have. The guides are wonderful humans you will enjoy spending the day with. It is best to go on a day when there aren't cruises docked (usually Friday-Monday) so the locations will be quieter and less packed.* We started our day cave tubing. Our guide for tubing was Jeff and he did a phenomenal job. He grew in a village near the caves and knew the caves like the back of his hand. If you aren't sure about cave tubing, I'd say GO FOR IT! It's not an adrenaline rush like ziplining but it is a total feast for the eyes and senses. We took an easy 1.2 mile hike to the entrance of the cave. The water is crystal clear; we could see young rainbow trout in a stream as we crossed it. The caves are incredible. We were the first ones in so it was serene. You could hear each drop of water as it feel from the ceiling to the water below. If you have time to do only one thing in Belize, I recommend cave tubing; our guide did say it's best to go Friday-Monday when cruises aren't docked as it's quieter. For our next stop, Percy arranged for us to visit the Howler Monkey Sanctuary as an add-on (for an additional charge). We were able to meet a family of Howler monkeys (including two small babies) up close in their natural habitat. It was a great bonus stop. Our last stop was at Altun Ha. Percy was our guide here. He shared the history of the site with us then gave us time to explore and climb on our own. The site was really quiet (it was a Sunday afternoon) so it felt like we were the only people there. There are several temples excavated that you can climb up; just remember you also have to climb down. Much like cave tubing, it's hard to describe what you'll see and feel here. You have to experience it for yourself. There are vendors just outside the entrance with really nice, handmade souvenirs so bring money or a credit card. This was the best place we visited for souvenirs. We got a Belizean lunch with stewed chicken. It was delicious! It came with stewed chicken, rice, plantain, and beans. It was a great way to replenish all the calories we burned climbing the ruins.
Professor Fred was amazing! He was funny, talkative, high energy, super informative, accommodating; just everything! Perfect excursion for a baecation! Thanks, Fred!!
Jam-packed day. This tour was great, however, hold onto your seat. In order to do both the Cave Tubing and Altun Ha Mayan Temples you don't have much time to relax. No fault to the excursion or our tour guide (they were great), you are just constantly on the move in order to get everything in. For example you eat lunch in the car while they are flying to get you to the next location. If my wife or I were to visit Belize again we would just select one or the other activities. On a positive note, by the time we visited the Altun Ha Mayan temples in the afternoon all the morning cruise tours were gone. We pretty much had the place to ourselves.
I really enjoyed this excursion because it was just my party and the tour guide not all the extra people like you’d normally get on an excursion. We had Norman for our tour guide he told us lots about Belize and the places we toured. He went out of his way to make sure we had a great time. You get to climb up on the ruins to get a nice view of everything surrounding you. They have handrails which is nice. The cave tubing was very relaxing. We hiked 20ish min through the jungle where Norman shared lots with us about the trees and animals we saw. Then we made it to the tubing spot where we just sat in tubes and floated for about an hour and a half. I would def requesting Norman for your tour if you can. We left feeling like we had made a new friend!
This tour was spectacular! The best thing about this tour, other than the amazing wonders it had to offer, was the customer service. Our tour guide Joel was extremely educated and shared knowledge hidden in the depths of the country's history. Not to mention, he was a humorous guy, which made our tour 10x better. We felt safe, welcomed, and in good hands while we enjoyed the entire package. Hope to do it again soon!
Jeff was awesome very knowledgeable about plants and history. He picked fruit by the road for us. We had an awesome experience. He truly well travelled and loves his home land.
Jeff took great care of us. He took us to see great local places and made it feel like home. He was kind patient and friendly. He took good care of us. It was a great day!
Our tour guide, Jeff, was amazing! He picked us up promptly from our water taxi. He shared so much knowledge about the area to us. Also, he had a great sense of humor. We felt safe and we had an amazing time! I definitely would recommend this tour and especially with Jeff! Susan
We really enjoyed our day with Joey. He picked us up promptly at our hotel, big air-conditioned SUV. He had great information to share about Belize, and what we would see along the way and at our destinations. Our first stop was Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch Archaeological Reserve. We got our inner-tubes and took a short 15- minuted walk to the cave entrance. Along the way, Joey pointed out various plants and trees, some with medicinal properties. We learned that Mayans considered caves to be the entrance to the underworld. However with our big inner tubes and head-lamps the caves were not at all claustrophobic. We had a few minutes to swim while Joey lashed our inner-tubes together. We were inside the cave about 45 minutes to an hour. There was an interesting waterfall and a place where the cave roof had fallen in and green plants were now growing. After emerging on the other side of the cave, we had a leisurely float to the take-out point. I am now a real fan of cave tubing and would definitely do it again here or elsewhere. Back at the parking lot, we had a few minutes to shop for souvenirs and return our rented crocs. Then we were off to a local restaurant for a great lunch of chicken, rice and veggies. Our next stop was the Altun Ha Mayan temple. Very few visitors there in the afternoon. We climbed each of the temples and learned more about just how many Mayan structures there are in Belize (its alot). Last stop was the airport where we were able to jump on an earlier flight to the Cayes. As teenager can be forgetful, we had to call Joey back to the airport to drop off a forgotten phone and ear buds. Thankfully, he was able to return before we boarded the flight. Thanks for a great day!
We loved the tour and Percy! He was so cool and helpful! He even took us to get our COVID test after the tour. The Mayan temples were cool and the cave tubing was so relaxing! The food was cool too
Absolutely recommend for anyone looking for a tour. Jeff was great. He really made the tours enjoyable with him knowledge, humor, and passion for his country! The cave tubing was amazing. Jeff's knowledge of the ecosystem and his immense experience of the area really made this adventure great. The Altun Ha ruins were really interesting as well. Jeff even found a local remedy (he ground down the bark of a tree) to ease my girlfriend's sunburn and bug bites. The combination of history, humor, and humanity in Jeff made him a great guide. He even made an unplanned stop at a rum factory to show us the history and get us the best deal around!
We had a great day with Jeff. The sights were incredible. Jeff handled all the details and the trip was very smooth. And he was very knowledgeable and we learned a lot about Belize. I would highly recommend this tour.
Went to Altan Ha Mayan ruins. Very well maintained area and are able to climb the Temples. My group and I opted to go to the monkey sanctuary rather than cave tubing and it was a a great experience interacting with and feeding the monkeys. Our tour guide, Percy, was knowledgeable and we had a good time. Ended up being only my friend and I on the tour which was nice not to be with alot of other people and crowd.
Joey was a very knowledgeable guide and carried our tubes through the jungle to the cave tubing. Very helpful, polite, and delivered everything we signed on for and more. The caves were amazing and the ruins were awesome! Be sure to bring insect repellent!
Our tour with T was un-belizeable!! ;) Even before the tour, communication with this company was professional and prompt. Meeting point was at Terminal 1, which was easy to find. T was passionate and knowledgeable, we learned a lot and had SO MUCH FUN during the tour. We started with cave tubing, ate lunch (which was included), then proceeded to Altun Ha in the afternoon. It was a perfect day! Because we did Altun Ha later in the day, we practically had the whole place to ourselves, which was a very nice bonus (seriously, we have some photos with no other people in it!!). We made it back to the port with enough time to catch a tender back to our ship! Overall, we HIGHLY recommend this tour! *To guests coming from cruise ships, PLEASE try to catch the first tender! It makes a huge difference to meet your guides on time (or earlier), you'll have even more time exploring! :)
Awesome excursion! Cave tubing was incredible! Tyrek (Mr. T) is an excellent guide. Beautiful views and surreal experience. Altun Ha was also amazing. Guide provided just the right amount of information about the Mayans and the culture. We also got a quick tour of the city. One con was the tour was a bit pressed for time. A lot of distance between the sites. No speed limits in Belize.
Percy was a great tour guide! Cave tubing was amazing And Mayan Ruins was unbelievable. This is a must excursion!!
It was an amazing experience seeing Altun Ha and tubing through the underground river system. Norman, our guide, is very friendly and knowledgeable. He took care of us throughout the trip. The insights he provided about Belize is valuable. More importantly, we experienced what Belizean hospitality is and we were treated like friends rather than visitors.
Percy was an amazing guide. We appreciate all the time you took with us to make sure we got the most out of our experience
Do not pass go. Do not collect 200 dollars. Just book this tour. Jeff and Percy hooked us up. This was a group of 4 girls on a cruise who wanted to go experience Belize during our time in port. We booked this due to reviews I saw and boy did the reviews understate how well we were taken care of. The only problem we had was locating Jeff and that was my fault because I didn’t have a screenshot of that page of info. We met another nice tourist guide who called Jeff for us and then helped direct us to where we needed to be After Jeff picked us up he gave us a tour through the country to the cave tubing. He hooked us up with local drinks before going into the river. And took us through the caves. He pointed out awesome rock formations and plants and animals as we went through. Afterwards we had these amazing tamales that he picked up from a home on the way. Then we went to the ruins and got us some more amazing food. Climbing to the top of the ruins was a high light. On the way back he took us to see some sights. Including his project that he’s working on to better Belize and the country. It was so worth the money and
Percy, our guide, took my husband, myself and another guest on a tour that included tubing through caves, lunch and the Altun Ha Mayan ruins. The communication was excellent, there was a time change and I had some questions and the email back & forth was prompt and informative. We arrived at the caves fairly early and it was so nice to experience this without crowds. Fernando took us through the cave system and he was friendly, funny and knowledgeable. The water was clear and cool but not at all cold. It was amazing!! Our lunch was wraps and a soft drink at a local tavern, it was tasty and clean. The tour of Altun Ha was interesting and enjoyable. Percy made sure we had water, he answered all our questions and was very professional.
I absolutely loved this tour. Our tour guide, Percy, was awesome. Very professional, knowledgeable, and made our tour very enjoyable. We first visited the cave tubing and got there in the morning to beat the large crowds, which caused our experience to be peaceful and relaxing. We then headed for lunch at Tiki Tavern for some authentic Belizean food. Lastly, we visited Altun Ha Mayan Ruins and again because Percy was intentional about our comfort we missed the huge crowds and was able to enjoy the scenery and take as many pictures as we liked. I would definitely do a tour with this company again and request Percy as a tour guide!
Thank you Percy for wonderful excursion. He was very knowledgeable and we would recommend using him.
If you want to engage in an amazing guided tour of the caves via tube and learn of the ruins of Altun Ha, Royal BZ is the company for you. Percy was our tour guide and he is very professional, personable, knowledgeable of all things Belize. He answered every questioned and managed to survive unscathed with 4 women. We have the best time and experience. Royal BZ and Percy made our last day in Belize a memorable one. We plan to go back and take advantage of other tours.
My partner & I spent a week traveling throughout Belize and this experience was one that we will never forget. The day begin with our guide Percy picking us up promptly at our hotel. We hopped in Percy’s car and he already has some ice cold bottles of water for us. On our drive to cave tubing, Percy pointed out lots of landmarks, noted changes in nature/scenery, and was a wealth of history knowledge - he has a deep pride for his country which translated into lots of interesting facts that he shared & good conversation. He took us to a local market to check it out and grab some plaintain chips to snack on. Next, we arrived at the cave park, grabbed some tubes & coconuts filled with rum and hiked about 15-20mins to the cave, crossing over rivers and checking out the plants on the way. Once we got there, we had the freedom & flexibility to do what we wanted since it was a private tour - we swam & jumped off rocks & floated down the river in our tubes, it was very relaxing. The cave itself was amazing and not to be missed. We worked up an appetite after cave tubing so Percy stopped at a local spot and we grabbed a delicious lunch and some cold beers, it hit the spot. Next up were the Mayan Ruins - I loved having our own guide to tell us all of the history and show us the secret spots. We took our time walking around the site which included a market and a little museum. Then we headed back toward our hotel in Belize city but still had a bit of time so Percy suggested we stop by the rum distillery on the way home - so fun & a perfect way to end the day. I wanted to make the best of our time in Belize city and I feel like we did with this tour; I highly recommend it & Percy as a guide!
