The tour was great. Our guide was very knowledgeable and told us all about the history along the ride. I would definitely recommend.

We got a tour of Belize City with commentary from the point of view of a resident. The food drops included a small local restaurant, a rum distillery, a fruit stall, and an ice cream shop. The restaurant was one of those places that I would have skipped on my own, a roadside storefront filled with locals. It seemed like a locals only place...and I am so glad Manuel took us there. We had fresh fried tacos, chicken enchiladas and something called garnaches. All delicious. There was a green hot sauce I skipped - but my husband said it was very good, and very hot! I went in knowing next to nothing about Belize and came away with some knowledge. English is Belize's official language. Their currency is pegged to the US dollar. They got independence from Great Britain in 1981. There are no large American chains in Belize, no McDonald's, no Walmart, no Lowes... 51% of their economy is based on tourism. Belize City is small. There was a lot going on, people were moving in and out of businesses, we saw children in their compulsory school uniforms, and there were a lot of foreign guests off the cruise ships. The only difficulty was the meetup. We were told that our driver would have a sign with our names. When we got outside, we were besieged by vendors wanting to braid our hair, give us tours, or sell us something, but no recognizable driver. I was frantically scrolling through my phone looking for a contact email or phone number, when someone approached, addressed me by name, and brought us to our group. I have no idea how he knew us from the dozens of folks around. It's a mystery.
When you leave the cruise ship at its peak offloading times, the tenders are leaving about every 10-15 minutes. It is about a 20-minute ride into Belize City, then about another 5-minutes to dock. Upon arriving into Belize City, we arrived at Terminal 4. We had to meet up outside of Terminal 1. I thought this would be a long walk, but one of the tender workers advised it was about a 2-minute walk away. We met Aaron, our Belize Tour driver right outside the terminal. We waited for about 5-minutes for the other guest; there were six of us in the group. It was a short walk to the air-conditioned van. There was a large colorful “Belize” sign near the van and Aaron encouraged everyone to get some pictures. The tour was of the area, good and bad. We stopped at a fruit stand and Aaron retrieved some fresh pineapples and cantaloupe. We then stopped at a local food place and Aaron got some empanadas with this diced onion topping (really good) you could put on it. Then there were the “taquitos”. Aaron said they are not taquitos, but they sure looked like them. It seems like every food tour in Belize City we end up at Travellers Rum Factory. This was okay with us, as my wife really likes their Cashew Wine, so we got a couple of bottles. We then stopped at a local ice cream shop, but just like Traveller, it seems like we keep coming back to this spot. The ice cream is great and seems to be a local favorite. Our tour was great, Aaron was a very nice guy, had a lot of knowledge of his country. He was open to any questions and had a great sense of humor. It was about a 3-hour tour, we learned a lot more of the city, as this was our second food tour. To Aaron, 5 Star Cave Tubing and Viator, thank you for the wonderful time in Belize City.
Anyone who travels to Belize City should book an excursion with 5 star. They were amazing. Enjoyed the rum factory and local eats.
Excursion was great! Got to taste some good food and had some of the best ice cream at the end of the tour. Meeting place was confusing but with excellent communication from the tour company everything turned out ok. Overall, had a great time.
Aaron was an absolute pleasure to have as a guide today. I feel so terrible that we forgot to tip him. I really would like you to forward my info to him so I can Cash App him if possible. Showing us where he grew up and tasting wonderful traditional local favorites. Even the kids loved it. Eating in an SUV was tricky but wouldn’t trade the comfort of AC and safety for something like an open bus type setting. Also not having to walk through town was excellent for us and made it more accessible to places further apart. We are scouting different countries to retire to and this showed us the potential to include this at the top of the list. Thank you so much for an awesome time. Highly recommend this tour
Kenton was our tour guide and he was great! He showed us all around the town and explained things and the history. He showed us the "Good, Bad & the Ugly" as he called it. The food he stopped and got for us tasted great. We stopped at an ice cream place that had some GOOOOD ice cream! He took us to the rum factory and we tasted different rums and was able to buy a drink there. He took us wherever we wanted to go and was so knowledgeable. The owner of the tour place was very accommodating to our tour time as well. We will definitely book with them again!
Kenton Thompson was an awesome guide!!! I recommend this tour to anyone who visits Belize and wants to see everything, not just the tourist section. He was very polite and knowledgeable!!
Could not make due to location and other arrangements. Total loss of over 700 usd which is 1400 belize dollars. Would have been nice to been offered 50 percent back or something.
Great way to learn and understand the RICH history of the city and try great local city food. My favorite part was the Rum Factory!
Do not book! They provided vague instructions on how to meetup with the tour guide. When I reached out through messenger and by phone I received no response. Contacted the Viator chat who also reach out to the touring company on my behalf, they also received no response. Now I must wait 3-5 business days for a refund. I would suggest booking excursions through your hotel or through a taxi/tour guide in person. I booked 3 excursions and had two refunded because of no shows. They accepted payment then do t bother showing up.
We had a wonderful experience with our tour guide, Kenton! He was extremely knowledgeable and did a great job sharing the history and culture of Belize with us throughout the tour. He took us around both the North and South sides of Belize City and made several stops along the way, giving us a chance to see and experience different parts of the city. One of my favorite stops was the local ice cream shop, where we were able to sample as many flavors as we wanted before choosing what we wanted to purchase. It was such a fun and unexpected part of the tour! Kenton was friendly, informative, and made sure we had a great experience from beginning to end. We really enjoyed learning about Belize and seeing the city through his perspective. If you’re visiting Belize City, I highly recommend booking a tour with Kenton!
Besides the great and abundent food we were given a great tour by kenton. Would send others that visit belize
My 3rd time with the Food Tour. Each time the restaurants change a little. Always good choices. This tour there were 5 of us in our group. 3 of the 5 were first time visitors to San Pedro. One of the absolute best features of the tour is introducing you the different foods available in San Pedro. Jamil our guide was Fantastic! Jamil's knowledge of the history of the establishments we visited truly added to the experience. one of the best values, one of the best excursions on the island. Especially for first time visitors
This was a great tour. Manuel, was my guide and he was awesome. He gave me a tour of Belize city, "the good, the bad, and the ugly" . He showed me around town and answered any questions that I had about the history of Belize. I was by myself, and so it was great to have guide who knew so much. The food places we stopped were awesome! Places that I would never normally stop by on my own, but now I want to go back. Manuel even took me to one of the markets there, because I was craving mangos. It was only a couple hours, but it was really fun. He even dropped me off at the water taxi at the end of the tour, which I really appreciated. Highly recommend.
The city tour is very good. Kenton does a great job of showing the goods and bad of Belize city and is very knowledgeable on all cultural and political aspects of Belize. The rum stop is nice and stopping for any other alcohol or fruit was very accommodating and wonderful. The food tour is by far the worst part of the trip. You are in a van that has limited air-conditioning. We made one stop at one restaurant and he brought us five dishes which nine of us packed inside then ate the food inside the van. I give the city tour and rum tour high marks. Also great guide. I have done food tours all over the world and by far this is the worst.
Manuel was super respectful and nice to us during our tour. In the description of the tour it says lunch would be included. Hot Tamales specifically and that was not given. The van he was driving us in had no ac. It was extremely hot. But overall my group enjoyed the city of Belize and the its foods we were able to try.
I really enjoyed the food tour! The food was very good. Aaron was knowledgeable and very professional! Will do the tour again the next time I visit Belize City.
Our tour guide Kenton (hope I spelled that correctly) was great. We had a mess trying to get off our ship but he waited and communicated with us. He did a great tour and made sure we didn’t miss our last tender. We ate fresh fruit, tacos, empanadas, Tostitos, ice cream, and sampled rum. Loved the panty ripper. It’s a must. Kenton answered all our questions and made any stop we wanted for photo ops. We had a great day.
This is a really good tour to take and the touring company is great. There’s so much food “bites” that you cannot eat it all. “Kendrick” was absolutely the best guide and we loved him. He treated us with kindness and we loved talking to him.
Melva was amazing so personable. I would recommend her and this tour.
We had no clue what to do in Belize because everything was so far off so we decided to so this bits and bites tour. Kenton was absolutely AMAZING. He was funny, very knowledgeable, and just great to be around. He showed us all around the city and told us facts about everywhere we went. We even seen parts of the city most tours wont show. On top of that, you get some pretty good food. We stopped and got fruit, empanadas, rolled tacos, coconut water, rum at a distillery, and ice cream. We got to stop at the Belize sign and take pictures as well. We had such a great time.
My boyfriend and I loved this excursion. We wanted to taste different foods from around Belize City and we got to go during a holiday so not a lot of things were open. Our guide still made the best of it and introduced us to some amazing tasting local foods. He even asked for homemade hot sauce when I told him I love spicy food. This was definitely my boyfriend's favorite excursion as he wasn't sure what he'd be eating but he liked everything and had a great time. As did I! Thank you!
Aaron did a great job on this tour. We got local food (fish empanadas and chicken items x2). In addition, we had an ice cream treat! The tour was very small which made it have a private feel. Aaron assisted us with getting some local currency. He was very knowledgeable. His tour offered a glimpse into “local” life in Belize.
The experience was great a lot of knowledge about the country and we got to see the good the bad and the truth about the locals. Kenton was our tour guide, kudos to him!!! We got to experience treats and good food!!! The rum tasting was good as well. It was a family friendly experience!
Andres was a wonderful host! He took six of us all around Belize City from affluent neighborhoods to a shantytown with mostly newer immigrants. He told stories and gave us history along with local eats. We are visiting on Holy Week and the day of a huge bike race across the country. So he amended and adjusted. We stoped for tropical fruit, fresh coconut water, Belize BBQ meals (Saturday tradition!) and delicious pastries. Everything was local and delish! Unique experience with a true local. The best part was our picnic lunch at his families home!
Belize is a poorer country so your ride will not be in a modern vehicle for this particular trip, however this added to the realism of all of the people in Belize. Temperature can be warm to hot if you are not used to tropical climatology. Our van was air conditioned and comfortable nonetheless. A small fan may be helpful for those not used to heat. My wife and I really enjoyed our 2.5 hour trip around the city. Canton our tour guide was a life long proud resident of Belize City. He offered a real insight into the history, livelihood and culture of the various communities that we visited. We really enjoyed all of the "bites" that we stopped for. They were all local neighborhood food stands. He obviously picked the best ones. We had fresh mango, pineapple and watermelon on our 1st stop. Next with our belly full of fresh local fruit it was off to the local rum factory for several different tastings. The Coconut Rum was great and I would suggest the "Panty Ripper" which is a Coconut rum with mango and pineapple juice. We purchased several bottles of rum and liquor. I found the prices and the history of the rum factory to be great. We next stopped at one of Cantons favorite food vendors. We had taquitos, fish empanadas, plaintan chips and 1 other chicken stuffed item that I forgot the name off. You won't go hungry and the flavors of all of these fresh made items were just awesome to me. You eat on plates provide by Canton while you drive the city all while he points out the various lifestyles, living conditions and local landmarks. I would say that this tour was very educational, enjoyable and just a very realistic look at live in this diverse city. I would highly recommend the tour. You will not find a more interesting trip for the price. The walk from the tender port is short and you can kill time shopping at the various port souvenir stores. Dont waste your time or money on the local marketers selling 1 hour city tours. Go with 5 Star they are on point, friendly and very accommodating. Ask for Canton he was just the best!
Andres was amazing. Will definitely book again
All in all this was a comprehensive 2 hour tour of Belize City. Our guide, Kenton, was excellent- genial, informative and open to questions. He showed us a variety of neighborhoods from oceanside villas to some of the less advantaged. We made four food stops- fresh fruit from a roadside stand, tamales & fried tacos, a rum tasting and an ice cream shop. We were a bit disappointed that the first two were consumed in the van and we only got out for the latter two. “Bits and Bites” is an apt description as this was as much a tour about the city and its inhabitants as it was about food.
Aaron was a great person to be with, he introduced us to Belize in a great way. The food and company was great. Would recommend anyone to do this, great introduction to Belize culture and people.
Great experience! Very filling servings & so much history! Jimal did a fantastic job! Kept us on track but never felt rushed.
Wonderful tour! Something different to do in Belize City. Pick up on time, knowledgeable driver, great authentic food, tour was right amount of length too. Recommend!!
Great fun. Manuel or driver/guide started out showing us Belize City. First stop was local food. So much food it is lunch. Then visit to rum factory to sample multiple varieties. Tried some local sweets- sesame bar, coconut and ginger bar. Local fruit stand and then ice cream
My experience started out a little rough. There was an issue with the guide getting to the pick up area on time and it wasn’t communicated well. However, Manuel (the tour guide) was knowledgeable and very kind. Although the start was rough, I would still recommend this tour based off the guide alone. He did not rush us through sites and made sure everyone was satisfied with their experience. He stopped and let us take pictures and even joined in on a few. I really like that he allowed us to experience Belize on a local level and see it through the eyes of everyday Belize residents. The food, rum and ice cream were delicious. Go check out Manuel for a lovely experience.
What an awesome tour! Our guide, Kenton, was very knowledgeable and made the experience fun. We got to learn about Belize and the city while tasting some of the local bites. Definitely recommend the “Belizian Bits and Bites” tour from the Five Star Team!
Damine was not great at communicating. We got to the meeting place and nobody was there. Yes, we were late but the people at the front desk of the hotel said nobody was there waiting. Finally got in touch with Damine and he said Manuel would be there soon. That was 45 minutes later. Manuel was a great tour guide. Since it was a food tour his choices were fantastic! I would recommend him as a tour guide but I was very disappointed in the whole process. Besides Manuel. I even called viator. It was answered by a recording and then disconnected me. So here we are in a foreign country, no tour guide and no way to get in touch with anyone. Anyone. Very poor processes.
Kenton was so much fun! Tour was very casual with food eaten in the van while traveling . Really enjoyed the pride and knowledge he shared
Bit and bites is not your typical food tour. It is a blend of historical tour and local foods that provides insight into the local culture. I highly recommend it. Our guide was very knowledgeable and showed us parts of the city you won't see on other tours. And the food is amazing!
Very enjoyable food and city tour. They take you all around the city, show the good parts and the bad parts to give you a full experience. They treated us to some tasty coconut water, street food, ice cream. We also stopped at a rum factory and got to try out some very delicious rum!. They picked us up from our hotel and dropped us off, very accommodating, would recommend!
Our guide Kenton was very knowledgeable and friendly and showed us all the sights of Belize city with frequent stops to sample some local food. The food was tasty and plentiful and we enjoyed the whole experience thank you.
This is more of a city tour, not a food tour. The guide was knowledgeable about the country and was extremely nice, but, it felt like a city tour with snacks thrown in. I was hoping to get a more rounded example of Bilizean street food and not eat in the van as people do with fast food in the U.S.
We only stopped at 1 place for lunch, food was ok. Ice cream stop was good. On other tours I have been on, we stop at several places
Aaron our tour guide was truly amazing he was very knowledgeable and funny great social skills food was really good especially the sweets!
The tour guides were really nice and informative of the history of Belize. The food tour consisted of the tour guide parking the van on the side of the road and having us wait in the van for around 10-15 minutes and then coming back with a sack of food. He passed out the food to everyone in the van and we ate while he drove to the rum factory. The rum factory was not that interesting and a small sample of rum. Then we drove around for another hour and he went to another place and got us some pastries. The van was old and not very clean so eating in the van was not appealing. I would not recommend this tour.
4 mediocre stops you can do on your own. Nothing original or amazing. A fried food stand, a fruit stand, a rum stop, and an ice cream shop. Guide was nice and shared some good information but generally a disappearing tour. Also very unorganized. Had to contact them to find out punch up time and drop off. First they told me 9-2. Then the day of I confirmed and they said 10am pick up. It finished at 12.
We had a wonderful tour with Kenton. He was extremely informative about Belize and demonstrated tremendous pride for his home country. He was very accommodating and made sure we were safe throughout the tour, opting to pick up the empanadas for us to eat in the van rather than us being outside in that particular neighborhood. The food and drink on the tour from the fresh fruit to the rum tasting to the empanadas and ice cream was all delicious. This was a unique experience, where we were exposed to authentic Belizean culture through food, narration and driving through different areas of Belize City, all in the safety of a private van.
If you are looking for a wonderful way to spend the afternoon in Belize City this tour is perfect. Manuel was a wonderful and kind host from the very beginning. He was flexible and was waiting for us at the hotel when we arrived. It was clear that he loves Belize and he enjoyed educating us on so many things! He was so knowledgeable and we had so much fun learning about the city and the history from him. My family had a great time on this tour and we give it 10 stars!!
We loved the food tour combined with the city tour… Kenton our guide was extremely friendly and accommodating.. he took us to the hidden street food spots in the city. We got a chance to taste delicious authentic Belizian food and ice cream. Kids thoroughly enjoyed the experience and learning the history of the place
Very small group - only four people total. Great tour that showed us so much in two hours. Our guide taught us a lot about their culture and fed us some amazing local food too. The stop at the rum distillery was nice too!
Had a great time with your guide Aaron today on the tour. Tried some delicious local foods, tasted some rum, and stopped for ice cream at the end. Really enjoyed seeing the city and getting a local perspective. Aaron made the whole experience fun and tasty. Would highly recommend.
