Paul was an extremely knowledgeable guide who we learned a lot from, even though we knew quite a bit already. Highly recommend this tour.

Paul was my tour guide and he was brilliant. Super informative and very pleasant fellow. My only slight issue was the cost which as a solo traveler was rather high.
Loved it. Really enjoyed Joe, our guide. Very knowledgeable.
The guide/driver was incredibly knowledgeable with respect to dates and events and gave an excellent intense tour of the troubled areas and pictures commemorating the troubles in Belfast over the years. I was very fortunate to have a good day, though cold and was able to get out and enjoy views of the various landmarks and street art and murals. Enjoy feels like the wrong word to use when seeing and hearing about this time of strife and inhumanity, but it was certainly fascinating and informative. The back room organisation was immaculate and the driver arrived very precisely on time and delivered me back to a place of my choice. I would highly recommend this thought - provoking tour to anyone visiting Belfast, whether you know about the history or not. My Driver Michael was amazing and spoke from the point of view of someone who has lived through the events himself.
This was a tour given by an articulate and well informed local guy, who grew up in Belfast during the 60s and 70s, knew the history and was well-informed about current issues. He gave both sides of the story, and was able to let the facts speak for themselves. He knows the city very well indeed, and took us to lots of interesting/challenging/sobering murals and monuments. It was at our own pace, and he welcomed and answered all our questions. At the end, we both wrote something on the Peace Wall. So all of that was excellent, but the thing that made it an experience I'll never forget was that he'd lived through it, and he tried to be fair to both sides. It threw light onto Palestine/Israel, the border between India and Pakistan, and every other place in the world where there's contested ground, or where they're living through the aftermath. It brought the whole history of Ireland into clarity. Belfast's a really great city for a break, but spend 2h on this. Bring your 17/18 year old children. You will all learn something!
Having grown up in the US hearing about The Troubles, this was informative and fascinating to learn what childhood in N Ireland was like during those times.
Joel was an amazing guide. Loads of really interesting insights. Would totally recommend.
Amazing - it’s so great and educational. I didn’t think I’d be so emotional 🥲
Did the 90 min tour with Joe who was really informative and happy to answer any questions in a non-biased way which can’t be easy having been raised during such turbulent times. There were points in the tour that I could feel my eyes well up at the sheer heartbreak of hearing some of the stories. I can’t believe that at my age I had no knowledge that to keep the peace segregation of communities by walls and gates was still in place all these years later - definitely recommend as a must do trip when in Belfast
We did the Black Taxi Tour with Jim he was a great guide. We sort of had a basic knowledge of the history but he was able to explain and answer our questions we are glad that we made the time to do the tour it was interesting and Jim was excellent highly recommend
A must for anyone visiting Belfast. This tour was excellent and essential to understanding the political history and conflict in the city. My guide, Joe, was exceptionally knowledgable and thorough in his explanation of events. Despite his lived experiences he described, without bias, the history of the conflict from the 17th century to modern day. I had time to look at the murals and Joe pointed out pertinent points and took photos of me with them. This balanced explanation of information is so important for people to know and understand if we are ever to move forward with peace and equality.
We arrived in Belfast without enough pre-planning and John was able to accommodate us on a fantastic tour within an hour of booking. He was knowledgeable and from the community, and it showed. I am very grateful he was our guide for this tour. We learned so much, and he let us take our time, take lots of photos and ask tons of questions. Thank you again for your flexibility and expertise!!
Very informative and emotive trip with an extremely knowledgeable and friendly guide (Kevin). Would definitely recommend the experience for visitors to Belfast.
Mark was incredible as a guide through sensitive topics and areas of Belfast. He was personable, informative, and balanced and answered all of my questions. Really lovely; can't recommend enough.
A thoroughly informative experience. Our guide, Trevor, gave us a lot of information doing his best not to show any bias. He was friendly and helpful, responding to our many questions. The sites were interesting and demonstrated much of the history. We were able to overlay it with the information we learned in Derry. There was a slight hiccup at pickup and my romantic notion of a black cab tour was not fulfilled (it was a light coloured van) but overall very informative.
Mark was absolutely fantastic. Really incredible tour with attention to detail..even asking me how much to show the kids. My American kids really loved it and this Belfast woman was so impressed! I would give him 20 stars if I could. Don't hesitate to book this tour.
Today we did a black taxi tour with Paul our driver. It was powerful, moving, wonderful experience not to be missed and Paul our guide was extremely knowledgeable, full of local knowledge and shared significant personal experiences
Paul was a brilliant guide with a depth of local knowledge and experience. Strongly recommended
We had the best experience with Paul our driver. His knowledge of the history of the troubles was second to none. It was a most interesting and engaging tour. Would highly recommend Paul and this tour.
Paul was an excellent source of information about The Troubles and showed us things we were totally unaware of. Sadly, during our time in Belfast we evidenced just how fragile the peace process remains.
William was a fabulous guide. We had watched Netflix, YouTube, and sought background info from Google and more in preparation. We learned more in 2 hours from William than days of preparation
Had a great experience learning of the political divides. Could have stayed and talked for hours
Wonderful tour with our guide Collin. He did such a great job explaining the history and the troubles. He had a balanced perspectives of both Catholics and Protestant. My husband and I booked the 90 min. tour and I wish we would have booked a longer tour. The tour was so awesome and interesting.
Excellent and informative tour from our guide who clearly new his job and had experienced live during the troubles. We saw so much and learnt a lot The 3 hours plus flew by.
Interesting to have tour guides from opposite sides - well they try to have balanced perspectives- they tend to slant their history to the Catholics or Protestant The tour itself was very good and gave a good direct view of the Troubles of yesterday and today
Our guide Michael was brilliant. He gave a very balanced view of the history and current situation in Belfast whilst showing us all the sites and allowing ample time at each stop - even for the dog! Great unforgettable tour, would thoroughly recommend!
Wonderful experience! This tour came highly recommended by pretty much everyone when we mentioned our plans to visit Belfast. And we couldn't be happier we did. Our driver and guide James really was not only knowledgeable having lived the history but he tailored it to account for our previous stops in Belfast. We had spent the previous day at the Titanic and covered that in depth. So he spent more time on the political side which we really enjoyed. Everyone agreed that it is a must do when in Belfast and we will be recommending it to everyone. We'll be back in Belfast next year with more of our family and they'll be booking the experience. Super convienent pick up and drop off at our hotel. Arriving well before time Really great experience. Cannot emphasize it enough.
our guide grew up in belfast so he gave us a first hand acount of some of the events. truly profound to see the damage to everyday people's lives
Mark our guide was exceptional. He shared a wealth of knowledge of the events and how it unfolded. We highly recommend this guide and tour.
Everything was perfect about this tour, very interesting and educational. Mark was the perfect guide, and absolute gent.
Our guide Mark was the perfect combination of knowledge, lived experience, humor and hospitality. We are so glad we took this tour to learn what it was really like in Belfast during the troubles. Sobering to see. Thanks Mark and your big red cab
Most enjoyable and educational. All in all well worth it.
Mark our guide was great. He took us around and clearly explained the extraordinary history of Belfast for us. Even though the tour is only an hour and half we never felt rushed. Mark gave us plenty of time to look at the different locations and take pictures. The tour is very impactful and should be on everyone’s must do when visiting Belfast.
No trip to Belfast is complete without going on one of these political tours. Paul, our guide who lived it, gave us an excellent insight into understanding the situation, from the past to the present and a glimpse into the possible future. Paul was first rate.
The absolute best way to learn so much about Belfast - it’s history and in current times. Loved Joel who was my guide - said straight off the bat that he didn’t mind any questions I had (and he was very good putting up with my history geek questions!). It was great to see some sites that are very much within local neighbourhoods knowing that Joel knows people within those communities so I felt like everything was done very respectfully - I’m very aware that while I’m looking at things as an outsider, people live there 365 days a year. I had asked to visit an address when I booked and this was done without me having to ask again, it had obviously been communicated to the driver, Joel, which I appreciated. If you can do this tour, I would say absolutely do it - you won’t regret it. I have come away with so much more information than I could ever have found online, in books or in documentaries etc. It was most definitely the highlight of my trip.
Our taxi driver, Paul with Black Taxi tours, was outstanding. He was a great historian, with an insightful and compassionate perspective and with comfort was able to answer our questions to enhance our understanding of Northern Ireland’s history . We highly enjoyed our tour and conversations with him.
Incredibly informative. Picked us up at a convenient location. Colm was so pleasant and knowledgeable. He provided an unbiased description of the Troubles.
Mark was our driver and he was Fabulous!! Mark provided s very, very comprehensive and passionate account of The Troubles from a personal point of view having grown up in them. He gave us new information and helped us connect the dots about the troubling times that unfortunately still continue. Our minds were blown by the tour. This a must do experience when in Belfast. He then dropped us at the Titanic Museum another must see. Thanks Mark. Ted&Leslie From New Orleans
Jim was amazing. He got to our hotel early. Was incredibly knowledgeable and friendly. We had a terrific experience.
Be prepared to be absolutely mindblown at the history you’ll learn about Belfast. We grew up during the time of Troubles, but weren’t aware of so many details. It’s luck of the draw with who you get as your driver. We had the incredible luck of getting Joseph, whose brother is the artist that painted so many of the murals you’ll see, so he had an interesting perspective. He was great! My husband said this was one of the best experiences we’ve ever done.
Our tour with driver Joseph was incredible. He gave such a comprehensive and heartfelt history of the area, highlighting both its troubles and its recent victories. Coming into this not knowing much about the troubles in Belfast, it was really illuminating to learn so much about what went on and how people dealt with the conflict on both sides. Thank you so much Joseph for sharing the history of this city and your own personal story as well. It was truly a gift.
This is a great way to see around some of the 'trouble' spots in Belfast. Joseph, our guide, was first class. So informative, passionate and funny. We wanted our son and partner, not born in the North, to learn a bit about the past we had grown up in. It was such an interesting thing to do, really worth while. We only had one day in Belfast and managed, luckily, to get the tour booked on the morning we were there. We lucked out with our guide too. Thoroughly recommend this tour. The murals are a sight to behold.
We took this tour in August and had a fantastic experience from start to finish. One of the things we really appreciated was the flexibility. We were picked up at a location of our choosing, and we could also tell the guide exactly where we wanted to be dropped off at the end. That made the whole day feel relaxed and completely tailored to us. The car was spacious and extremely comfortable, which made travelling between the different stops a pleasure rather than a chore. Our guide was excellent. He explained a great deal in detail about Belfast and the conflict in Northern Ireland, giving us a deep and quite surprising insight into both the history and the present day reality of the region. What really set this tour apart was how authentic it felt. Instead of glossing over the past, it genuinely showed how the conflict is still ongoing and how people continue to live with it today. You come away with a much richer understanding of this troubled but fascinating country. If you're in Belfast, this is something you really shouldn't miss. Highly recommended.
This was a very neat experience and really enjoyed hearing from our local Guide/Driver Paul all of his knowledge from growing up in Belfast.
We had an amazing tour with Paul and left with a much better understanding of the struggle that is happening in northern Ireland. This struggle is for both a United Ireland and the ongoing challenges between Unionist and Nationalist parties. From the fences and gates that separate the communities to the murals that depict the struggles and loss of life for both sides, Paul provided a firsthand account of the history and ongoing impact. We did the 90 minute tour and that may not have been enough time. However, our guides made sure that we saw and learned a tremendous amount. The company makes pick up and drop off very simple and convenient within the city. It is a very thought-provoking tour and certainly created a lot of discussion within our group afterwards!
Great experience with our guide Paul, who made the history of Belfast during the Troubles come alive. Recommend 100%!
Brilliant tour, lasting one hour. Fascinating and memorable experience, and essential to learn more about the political situation of The Troubles, including the preceding events that led to those years.
Paul was phenomenal! He is very passionate about sharing the history of the Troubles with others. He was incredibly informative and shared personal experiences that made the tour even more memorable. He was also very kind and friendly. We learned so many things that aren’t taught in our world history classes back home, and Paul did such a great job explaining the history and putting everything into perspective. He even shared several books and videos that we can watch to learn more. While it is a very heavy history lesson, it was incredibly interesting and meaningful to learn about. I was so excited to share everything I learned with my brothers when I got home. I would highly recommend this tour!
Thoroughly enjoyable. Being of Irish Catholic ancestry and a bit of an amateur history buff, this trip offerred a fascinating insight into the period known as The Troubles. memorable tour of the "hotspots" of the Troubles and the associated gable-end murals. Tour guide (Paul McAllister) was fantastic - shared his own memories of the times while being respectful to the other tradition in the city. I cannot thank him enough! Thoroughly recommend this tour.
William was an excellent tour guide very informative in a fun enjoyable way full of knowledge very good at his job would highly recommend him
