Famous 1.5 Hour Belfast Murals Tour

This is my second black cab tour - my first tour with Ian. It was OUTSTANDING. He is such a wealth of knowledge! We’re on our honeymoon and this tour is by and far one of a big highlights. Will absolutely book again next time we’re in Belfast. Thank you for a terrific, illuminating tour, Ian!

We were given an incredible firsthand account of the Troubles by our tour guide. He spent a great amount of time detailing the cultural implications of these events into our modern era factually and without bias. I would recommend this to anyone with is interested in the Troubles, the history of violence in the North, and the political landscape.

There were 8 of us visiting Belfast and we had been highly recommended Joe’s Black Cabs mural tour by someone that had done it, and it absolutely did not disappoint! We were split into two taxis, with 4 people in each, and Joe and Stevie were our guides. Both were absolutely fantastic, really knowledgeable, friendly and brilliant at explaining the history of Belfast in a way that was both interesting and easy to understand. We listened to personal experiences, as having liver in Belfast his whole life, he was able to give us a real insight into what life was like during the Troubles and how the conflict affected people and communities. The tour taught us so much about the Troubles, the divisions between communities, the Peace Wall and the conflicts that have shaped Belfast over the years. Seeing the famous murals up close and hearing the stories and history behind them was fascinating and gave us a much deeper understanding of the city and its past. The tour lasted around 1.5–2 hours and took us to all the famous murals, making it a brilliant way to see parts of Belfast we might otherwise have missed. The convenient pick-up and drop-off in the city centre was an added bonus, and we thought the tour was very reasonably priced for such an informative and memorable experience. All 8 of us thoroughly enjoyed it, and we can’t recommend Joe’s Black Cabs enough. A huge thank you to Joe and Stevie for such a great experience and tour. His storytelling made the murals and the history behind them so much more meaningful. A perfect balance of humor, honesty, and powerful insight.

Billy was a passionate and knowledgeable professional who answered every question we had. As two former world history teachers, we learned so much from him. Just be advised that you’ll need cash, but this is not a negative in any way. We thoroughly enjoyed our tour and would gladly do it again. We were never bored in the slightest the time went by so quickly!

Joe was also lots of fun to talk to and very engaging. My son, James, said speaking Gaelic with Joe was one of his highlights of the trip. We were picked up at our hotel and dropped off at the Titanic Experience - so easy. We saw powerful murals, memorials, historic sites, and got to sign the Peace Wall. Go raibh míle maith agat!

Excellent experience my husband and I had. Our guide Billy was early and approached us to begin. I cannot speak highly enough of Billy, he was warm, friendly and full of information. He sat with us in the back to understand what we knew and wanted to discover before driving to our first stop. Billy spoke the whole time, I felt educated on the past and present. I was moved in regards to the history. This was definitely value for money with Billy giving more time than expected. Highly recommend this tour and if you get Billy as your guide you're very, very lucky!

Ian was our guide and driver. He was informative, informative and so interesting. This experience exceeded our expectations.

Billy was a real story teller and packed in so much information into the 1.5 hours. Gave us a true insight into the each area and was a gentleman by dropping us to a bar to get out of the rain at the end. Highly recommend.

Fabulous Tour. Ian was so very knowledgeable. We now have a clear understanding of The Troubles conflict thanks to Ian. The photographs to accompany the explanation of history were so helpful. Ian stopped many times to explain murals, buildings, and various personalities. The stories of loss of life during this time was heartbreaking. Today four of us joined Steve for a guided tour of North Belfast murals concentrating on the history of the Troubles. Our guide was bright, articulate, friendly, professional, and extremely well versed in the history, having grown up in the region and lived through the Troubles himself . Most importantly, he was able to provide us unbiased perspectives from both the Catholic and Protestant points of view, the history of the Troubles, and the existing aftermath present even today. It was a fascinating and moving experience for all of us, and we felt lucky that Steve was our guide. I highly recommend this short one and a half hour tour to anyone visiting Belfast. Lastly, his new Mercedes van cab was extremely comfortable and very clean. A great way to tour around the city.

This was the best thing we did in Belfast! Joe was amazing! A very informative tour of Belfast. I feel like we got more out of this tour in 90 minutes than a full day spent at the museum. Words can honestly not describe how amazing it was. I would recommend this to anyone.

Stevie was our guide. He lived through 'the troubles' and knew very well what he was talking about. Stevie was passionate but he told two sides of the story. Our children were with us so Stevie very thoughtfully altered his tour as necessary. We would highly recommend Stevie as a guide and we came away with a clear message of letting go of hate so the generations to come can live without it.

I was able to go with my son on the Belfast Murals Tour with Joe McCollough on an EF trip we just got back from last month. Knowing next to nothing about "The Troubles" and the conflict in Belfast, I was amazed with how Joe was able to bring it all to life from some of the events decades ago and even some in the last few weeks. Joe was charismatic, honest and frankly a great tour guide. His open personal approach to speaking to us like his friends about "The Troubles" and how his life interected these events made it all come to life. My son and I getting to sign the wall separating the two sides of Belfast was an emotional highlight, and I hope one day that wall is torn down. Ian was an amazing tour guide, explained everything clearly and encouraged questions. It was eye opening to see what Belfast was like during the troubles and what has carried through to today. The tour was scheduled for 1.5hrs but he didn’t rush and allowed us a 2hr tour. Would recommend to anyone wanting context of the city.
