We wanted a walking tour with all the Belfast history and culture that wasn't dominated by the troubles, and Marti delivered. Hugely knowledgeable on every aspect of the city, Marti took us through the history with his unique perspective, and then walked us around the various notable sights (of which there were many!) linking them all in to the narrative that we'd already covered. We thoroughly enjoyed the tour and would recommend Marti to anyone looking for a slice of the real Belfast.

Marti gives a wonderful tour of Belfast. He has amazing knowledge of the city and its history. He is very engaging and happy to answer your questions. It is time and money well spent!
Marti was a very informative guide. Great background information on Belfast and Norther Ireland. Very animated tour and very worthwhile.
My friend booked booked The Marti way music tour of Belfast and It was fabulous Marty was very friendly , engaging , quirky with a great sense of humour . We wouldn’t have discovered half the interesting things in two hours had we not gone and Marti had a host of stories facts history and music to make it a really memorable time
A first visit to Belfast with my partner I was fortunate to find myself on an in depth walking tour with the Marti Way. What an experience. A font of historical knowledge, Marti tailored our tour to give a true sense of Belfast, past, present and future. Keeping his tour party small it felt like a stroll around the city with a mate. Marti delivered it in an honest but ultimately positive manner. Thanks again Marti and I’m sure our paths will cross again on our next visit.
What can I say about this lovely man. His knowledge of his city is second to none. This is not your average tour , so much more and personalised to what you want to do . We spent 4 hours with marti, and felt like we were with a friend. We shared beer and chat along the way and learned and saw so much of this beautiful city that marti is filled with hope for . Would definitely recommend. Thanks marti. See you next time.
Yet another great experience. This is the second time that I took the tour with Marti. Last time was with my family and this time was to introduce a friend to the city. Marti tailored the trip, going out of his way to focus on areas important to us. As a Belfast native, living abroad for my adult life, I am delighted to see the progression of my home city. I am sure this is not the last time that I will be on the Marti Way! I recommend for all.
***An Unforgettable way to understand Belfast*** The Belfastology Eclectic Walking Tour was hands-down one of the highlights of my time in Belfast. It's not just a walking tour - it's storytelling, history, humour and local insight all woven together brilliantly. Marti our guide, was incredibly knowledgeable, engaging, and refreshingly honest, bringing Belfast's complex past and vibrant present to life with warmth and wit. We covered politics, culture, music, and street art. The tour helped us understand the history, fascinating local anecdotes you'd never find in a guidebook. We had many laugh-out-loud moments. Marti always ensured everyone was enjoying themselves and answered questions. The tour felt authentic, respectful, and he was deeply rooted in the city. If you want to actually understand Belfast - not just see it - this tour is an absolute must. I'd recommend it to anyone, whether it's your first visit or you think you already know the city. Thank you Marti we thoroughly enjoyed your tour.
If you are looking to discover a different view on Belfast other than The Troubles history then this is for you. Marti was a great in weaving us through the city for 3 hours and providing history bits that linked Belfast to its past, what is going on now and how its sees it future. We are started at City Hall and finished in the Cathedral Quarter where the arts scene is alive and well. Thanks Marti!
Fantastic walking tour with Marti. Fabulous guide, historian and storyteller. If you do one thing in Belfast do one of his tours!
Brilliant walking tour. Marti has so much knowledge of the city and knows so many people! A fun and tailor made tour which we thoroughly enjoyed. Would recommend.
Marti was a warm and welcoming tour guide who was clearly very attuned to the various interests of those on the tour. We particularly enjoyed the thoughtful way the tour was put together, which was evidently a blend of typical stop offs and areas he felt would interest the group. Marti pointed out lots along the journey and built up the story of Belfast in an in-depth but very accessible way. During the tour Marti took us for a brief stop to a traditional pub called The John Hewitt, which we were delighted to discover was hosting a traditional band that evening. We returned to the pub to enjoy the music, which really put the icing on the cake of a wonderful day. Thank you Marti and all the best ☺️
Marti's tour challenged what I thought I new about the troubles. His attitude of hope and positivity for the future underpins all the "information " he provides throughout the tour. Very thankful to have chosen this tour, Marti loves his city and Belfast deserves to be loved it is a wonderful place!
Great tour, Marti was a interesting and entertaining guide, showed is all of Belfast City. Made us want to stay longer to explore all the places he showed us.
Excellent overview of the city in a very eclectic way. Marti is very proud of where he is from and gave us a great tour. I grew up in Belfast but have been living abroad for a long time. Marti introduced me to places in the city that even I didn't know. Our teenage daughters enjoyed it too... Marti made it interesting for everyone!
There is only one (proper) way to discover Belfast and that is the Marti way. We truly enjoyed the extensive, eclectic and insightful tour. Worth every penny!
We thoroughly enjoyed the walkingtour with Marti. He made the history of Belfast very interesting and told it with great wit and humor.we were impressed with his knowledge. His inside tips on pubs and restaurants were greatly appreciated. We would greatly recommend this tour for everybody who wants to get to know and understand this lovely city better.
It was a very positive experience. Marti was very knowledgeable. He also recommended further reading and movies worth watching. He gave a very sensitive understanding of Belfast that was most interesting and enjoyable. Would recommend Marti to anyone wanting to understand Belfast and Ireland better.
Thoroughly enjoyed the Belfast history n city walking tour with Marti. He gave us good insights about the city’s past present and future! Also showed us some secret spots which we wouldn’t have known by ourselves. Definitely recommend
A comprehensive study of Belfast, following a timeline of the history of the city. Just what we wanted. Marti is a strong advocate for the city that he loves. We shared his enthusiasm and want to learn more. Marti had recommendations for reading and movies to further our education. Belfast was the first stop on our 21 days of cruising and Marti set a high bar for any tour guides to follow. Thank you, Marti.
Just finished an amazing walking tour of Belfast with Marti and couldn't recommend it enough! Marti was an absolutely superb guide – knowledgeable, passionate, and a fantastic storyteller. He brought Belfast's history and character to life with engaging anecdotes and balanced perspectives. He made sure everyone felt connected and informed. Marti welcomed us and we went on a 'Back to the Future' tour with a detailed insight to Belfast and its unique history including 'The Troubles'. We visited the main historical sights and discovered how Belfast's industry transformed over the years. As we moved around the city with Marti, he greeted quite a few local people which gave us the idea of a small friendly city, but at the same time very lively. We entered beautiful buildings, catching a glimpse of Belfast's City Hall and the Merchant Bank. His tour was very informative and his love of the city showed through. He also gave us tips on where to eat, good pubs to visit and where we could see some Irish dancing! We highly recommend this tour and on our next trip back to Belfast we will definitely be back for another one of Marti's tours!
I spent the day with Marti doing a double day of tours. I’ll start by saying I’ve done many tours in many cities in many parts of the world, and can definitively say that Marti is the most knowledgeable tour guide of his city that I have ever had. Hands down. I was amazed that after 7 hours he still had plenty of new knowledge and there was zero overlap between tours (& he offers additional tours to those I took). As a professor and closet historian I am always looking for deeper knowledge and Marti did not disappoint. How a person remembers that many events, locations, names and dates is beyond me. He clearly has a passion for his subject and has spent a lifetime preparing to give you your next tour. I’m no stranger to Belfast having hosted many times and taken a variety of tours. Marti’s tour tied so many ends together and provided such a rich context and new perspectives to help provide a deeper meaning. He’s aware of the past, the present and the new directions of Belfast. At the end of it all, you appreciate that this tour is a reflection of Marti himself and his eclectic life adventures and experiences with so many facets of Belfast. Two thumbs up!
Guide was awesome. He was very knowledgeable about any question we possibly had about the history of Belfast, which there were a lot of the pace was brisk but not too fast.
A very interesting tour being shown places normally missed by visitors , Marti made it a great tour , interesting and that includes Marti
Had such a good time! Did a lot of walking, heard some amazing stories, and learned a lot about the history of Belfast. Definitely recommend!!
I learned so much about Belfast that I have to come back! Marti helped us explore the history, people, and culture of Belfast. Loved his recommendations for activities, too. He’s a real gem of knowledge.
This was one of the most informative walking tours I’ve ever been on! We picked his tour because it was about more than the Troubles and we weren’t disappointed. Marti knows everything about Belfast and adapted the tour to our interests. We saw so many things and got so many recommendations that we plan on coming back to Belfast in the future.
Marti's eclectic walking tour was very informative and gave us a great overview of Belfast and it's history. Marti was a very knowledgeable and entertaining guide. Thank you for a great morning!
Marti was a great tour guide, very informative and knowledgeable. He shared a lot of interesting facts and historical information about Belfast.
The walking 3.5 hours+ tour of Belfast with our host Marti exceeded are expectations. Marti did a fantastic job in mixing historical history with local knowledge and humor! We would highly recommend Marti and the tour. Thanks You.
Marti offered a great tour filled with historical and cultural information. He is also a fun and lively guide. He customizes the tour by sharing great photo opportunities and mentioning places to visit and places to eat based on our interests.
Enjoyed our walking tour with Marty today. So much information and places to see, it really was a great introduction to Belfast. Would thoroughly recommend.
I came to Belfast with a blank slant & open mind. Marti introduced me to more than I could imagine. Amazing tour in the rain. Loved every minute. Very personal & rewarding. Thank you
Marti really opened our eyes to a different Belfast. We saw so many interesting sights and undiscovered spots. Very enjoyable. Fantastic knowledge of history and the city in 2024. You should book. You won't be disappointed.
Marti is an exceptionally knowledgeable, engaging, funny and insightful guide who made us share his affection for Belfast. We even chanced upon the mayor who greeted Msrti as a friend and welcomed us warmly to his city. It really is not possible to express how very impressed we were with the 3 hours that went by much too fast.
Went to Ireland for a study abroad trip with my school, and all of us can say we didn’t know much about Belfast until we went on the Marty Walking Tour. We all got to learn so much from him and all of us had such a great time. He was passionate, educational and fun. Everyone had nothing but good things to say by the end of it and it was definitely a highlight of our trip.
This was my first time in Ireland and having Marti as a tour guide made it an all and all great experience! Going to Belfast, I had no knowledge about anything there, but after having a tour with Marti, that completely changed. He was very informative in the tour and had explained everything well, even answering questions that we had! He was very friendly and engaging throughout the tour and even after. He also suggested places that we go to during our stay in Ireland such as great pubs and great places to have a bite! Definitely suggest going with the Marti way if you're ever in Belfast. A pleasure to be around and a great tour guide!
This tour was more than we were expecting, it was well conducted well orated and more in depth than expected So nice to have a native orator historian and good humour with real depth to the stories Highly recommend you take this tour especially before other more commercially oriented tours they want your money Marty wants your ears to help you learn about the beautiful Ireland and it’s customs history snd people’s Will most definitely tell anyone coming to Belfast this is a must do tour
Going to Belfast i didn’t know much about anything but then after my tour with Marti i learned more then i thought i was. He explained everything so clearly and answered any questions anyone had! Marti told us some of the best pubs to go to while visiting Belfast and some good places to go and eat! The Marti way is the best way to go when it comes to touring all of Belfast. Overall, a great guy and also the best tour guide!
Travelling to different countries can be really fun, but it can also often feel very “touristy”. Marti and his trademark “mARTi way” allowed us to experience Belfast for what it truly is. There’s a lot of rich history, but also a lot of conflict, and Marti didn’t shy away from teaching us about the true capital of Northern Ireland. The murals we visited were absolutely magnificent, and each had its own story which Marti knew like the back of his hand. He’d always remind us about the importance of hope and peace; that no matter the conflict, humanity needs to work together in order to thrive. His knowledge of Belfast, and honestly, his amazingly positive outlook, helped us feel secure throughout the trip. Our group was fairly surprised by his initial approach (he just appeared out of nowhere and we didn’t know who he was), but it didn’t take long for us to warm up to Marti. Again, he is extremely knowledgeable, and if you want a true Northern Ireland history experience, “the mARTi way” might be the only way to travel through Belfast!
Thank you for this wonderful Tour. Marti is fun to be with and has so much knowledge for what he is doing - that noone comes even close. His friendly attitude is amazing and all the places he showed were amazing holding secrets not known of many. The food places he recommended were with best food in town and sure next time we come in Belfast would like to do one of his tours again. Thosre tours are unique
Marti had a child-like enthusiasm such that if you did dot agree with him, there would be some pouting from Mr. Marty McFly.
Marti was very well informed and gave us a great understanding of the background of Belfast. He asked what we were interested in and gave us an interesting and ‘eclectic’ tour the city. He does other tours that are more specially tailored to political or musical interests too. - we’d happily take them up. Would really recommend this tour 👍
Great insider knowledge with fun facts thrown in. If you’re looking for something a bit different and don’t enjoy large group tours, book Marti. You’ll get loads of history, his love of Belfast shines through and he will tell you about its bright future.
